Meg, I remember that that man used to ask you to make him those dishcloths. I need those slippers too. I have Raynaud's and my toes really hurt when they get the least bit cold and now it's just started in my fingers. I can't wear gloves around all the time but maybe I'll have to most of the time.It also leaves marks on the toes and now fingers. I don't care about marks. I'm old so who cares but the marks are very tender and if you hit one with something it can be very painful for a minute or two or three.
I have all I need down here in the bedroom now to finish my projects so till make myself do it. I love doing it once I get started.
Phyl, I hope you've heard from Betty J's family and that she's doing ok.

CJ- glad you were able to get out for lunch today! ALways nice to have a treat like that. I think sunny weather is headed our way soon- and then perhaps you can get busy on the candy canes again. Congrats on using up some leftover fabric too!!
Ruth, well you are indeed the shawl lady! WIll you be using the same pattern for these shawls? How long does it take you to make one? I have also crochetted dish rags/dish towels and when using the crochet cotton they are wonderful! I have a whole book of dish towel patterns- they work up so quickly.
Meg- hope nothing major is wrong with your car! What a hardship....you had to go into Michaels for yarn!
Phyl-glad to hear that you got to spend some time in your playpen! (Love that name!) Adult coloring is so popular now- glad you are enjoying it!
Still feel crummy but for now my main complaint is I am tired.
Looks like they are going to look for a subacute rehab location for MIL- and then IMO she will transition into a nursing home. Time will tell....no diagnosis- I think honestly now it is just old age (she is 92). Thanks for asking about her.
Have a lovely evening! Ginny

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear they haven't been able to diagnose your MIL but in some ways that's good because then she doesn't have to undergo some kind of emergency surgery or whatever. I do hope she's not in pain.Rehab if it's not too painful sounds like a good step.
Ginny, I'm also waiting to hear if this dgd wants the same style. I sent my dil two choices for my dgd to choose from..one is the same one I just finished for her sister and the other is a nice triangular one that looks really easy and fast. As far as how long it takes to make one, I would say that If I just did that instead of wasting time I could make one in three days tops and probably two.
I like Phyl's name for her craft room too. I'm very un original and just call mine my craft room.
And Ginny i hope you feel better by morning because for one thing you probably have to work, right?
CJ, lunch out sounds food and I do like the fish sandwiches at the fast food places but I like a lot of tartar sauce unfortunately and also they have breading so now that I found out I have to follow a gluten free diet I can't eat the fish sandwiches and the others I have to take out of the bun. True celiac sufferers wouldn't even be able to do that because there would still be some gluten contamination.I don't have to be that strict.
ok I'm going to bite the bullet and try this pom pom. I've put it off long enough.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's finally sunny here today, so I've been working on the last 4 candy canes. I finished 3 of them and I'll get the other one done today. I'm glad to be done with this project. I don't really like the finished project, but I did enjoy the embroidery. I need to do some more of that. The new block is out for the 182 Day Solstice Quilt Challenge and it has applique in it. I don't really like to do applique so I might just put a plain block of fabric in the center, I'm not sure yet. I see block #10 didn't applique either, I like the idea of just putting a basket block in there. Here's a link to the page so you can see the block and some that people have already finished today!! (Need to scroll down) www.ilovetomakequilts.com/Ginny - I hope your MIL will improve some, 92 years old is an achievement. My father lived until he was 91 and those last few years were tough. Hope you start to feel better soon. Ruth - Did you get that pom pom made Phyl - Hope you are enjoying your coloring, that sounds so creative and stress relieving. Meg - Hope your car is alright and I'm glad you found your yarn at Michael's. Gail - Hope you are doing well. Take care everyone!

hi everyone it is a wet Wednesday here. Of course we were expecting rain today. As I do not have my car I will stay home. My car should be finished on Thursday. I have a huge bill but as I have not had too many repairs over the years I can't complain. I managed to do quite a bit of knitting last evening and I could finish it today once I get off the computer. So I am thinking about what I would like to do next.
Ginny, I hope you got a food rest and feel better today.
I am feeling sleepy. I will take a nap and check back later

Hello everyone. I've never made a pom pom before and did I ever make a mess. then I didn't want to cut it down to a real small pom so I left it kinda fluffy and if I do say so myself it looks really nice and I think dgd will like it. I didn't have the right needle to sew on the button on the shawl. I came up once to get one and found that even my smaller yarn needle wouldn't work so I thought I had a regular needle downstairs, went back down and didn't have one there so I just read after that. Now today I've been doing little things and cooking so haven't got to any more on the crochet projects yet. I'm going to do that in a minute.
CJ I know you feel good about the candy canes being done. It a great feeling to complete something. I'm going to go to that site you have in your message. I don't think I would want to applique either. My aunt made some quilts she put applique maple leaves on and they were very nice but I don't know how. Maybe another thing to think about in the future.
I'm still waiting to find out what shades of purple my dgd wants and which pattern she likes best but since I don't have the others done yet there's no hurry. And I want to make a couple small things for ddil as her bday is at the same time as the dgd that just ordered the purple shawl. Last year i made her a really pretty cowl and some things for her kitchen. This year I have to figure out what to make but I think vintage hotpads that I made from her mother's pattern will be one thing. Well it wasn't her mother's pattern as she didn't design it but I got it from her. Dishcoths and a topped towel to go with it probably and I'm thinking key fobs... i have a good pattern for those and I have the key thingies. Of course I give all these some other things to go with the handmade items but they do like the handmade things. Oh and last year I made dil a notepad holder that you put on the wall. It's so pretty I had to make it. And I made her a wrist "wallet" so that when she doesn't want to take a purse she won't have to. Now that the "baby" is three she won't be carrying a diaper bag after nearly 18 years of carrying one for the 7 children.

Good evening!
Meg, that sure stinks that you car will be so expensive to repair! And several days to fix also....lets hope that you will not need any more repairs for awhile. I loved your ill iteration of "wet Wednesday"! (It was a wet day here too). Have you found a new project to work on? Bet you feel "naked" not knowing what you will be knitting next!
CJ-embroidery is wonderful- agreed! Guess you are not happy with the pattern on the candy canes? What might you try next to embroider? Have you ever taken on pillow cases or anything like that? When I finish saying hello here I will check out the 182day solstice quilt sight. I enjoyed looking at others creativity last week- thanks for giving us that link!
Ruth- I made some Pom poms for DGD's hat- and they did not wash well- as a matter of fact they fell apart. I just read to tie the Pom Pom together with thread instead of yarn- so I used button thread as that is extra strong. Hope your Pom Pom s hold up! They are fun to make aren't they? What kind of pattern did you use for the notepad holder? I do love the look of the coordinated kitchen items, like the towel toppers and dishcloths. Were you able to get any crochetting in today?
So here was my day...work this am (and I had to stay an extra hour) then I drove up to see MIL and Dh who was with her. That sort of became complicated, DH was waiting for all the appropriate people to speak with him about when MIL would be released...and I had to remind him (a lot!) that he better try to find the care coordinator so that she would attempt to figure out where MIL should go next. Then it became apparent that perhaps MIL was going to be released today (she was not) and might need transportation to the rehabilitation facility. (Medicare will not pay for an ambulance for that). So Dh and I had to switch cars- so he could have the good car to transport her if necessary. So my lunch- which was locked in the good car- never got eaten.....so I bought yarn instead! Ha ha ha. Honestly AC Moore is. A mile from from the hospital- and my house is 15 miles from both, so see? This was a necessary errand. Ok, you can all stop laughing now.
Making decent progress on the afghan. MIL is being released tomorrow sometime. My SIL will be transporting her.
Have a great night! Hi to Phyl, Gail and all who stop in to say hello! Gnny

evening, I ended up coloring last night. today delona and I went to lunch instead of breakfast. then the mall.
when we had a sewing thread with judy someone called her area the playpen. that is how I got the name for me. sometimes it is the dungeon. well it is finshed off so shouldn't use that word.
the diabetic class is a review for me also. nancy said not much has changed In the teaching, but meds have. ruth good dh got his A1c down. He still needs to becareful. nancy and sue both kept saying how we can get it down and get off they also kept warning us diabetes is always there and can sneak back up on us.
betty called me today. she is hanging In there.
have a goodnight. phyl

Ginny, it sure sounds like your day was very busy and yes, I agree the yarn buying was necessary... and I did laugh of course.
I'm thinking of just tying the pom pom on with the yarn and tying in a bow inside and do the "double knot" think with the bow so that when ddil washes the hat...she washes everything...she can just untie it and then put in back on after the hat is washed. I do think I need to cut it down more. You know how much you have to cut them to get that nice tight ball...well mine is looking even looser today so I'm rethinking and may cut it more.I'll ask dh what he thinks.
Meg, back in June my car wouldn't run so I had it towed and fixed. It cost me almost $1000. I thought that although that's a horrible amount, like you I didn't have any previous repars that I had to have done so I was good with that. Well just three months and less than 200 miles later the exact thing happened. They had to fix it again at their cost. I brought it home, used it once and it won't run yet again. I hope you have way better luck. Luckily dh and I have another but I think the one that isn't working will just have to be junked and we'll have to look for another. No way we can live way out where we live and have only one vehicle to rely on.
Phyl, it sounds like BettyJ is doing well and I'm happy to hear that. It's sad, I suggested when she got that adorable little puppy that she use puppy pads since it was winter but a couple people insisted that she had to take him out so that's what she did and ended up falling and breaking the hip. I'm glad she did ok with the surgery and I'd bet she'll do great with the rehab too. She seems like a nice woman. I hope someone is taking care of the "baby" and continuing the training so that he'll be doing ok when she gets to come back home.
Also Phyl, my dh isn't very careful in his eating. After his A1c went down the first time it was Christmas season so he splurged. Well then his A1c got even better so he figured he had a lot of leeway and started to eat even worse and still it stayed good. He does eat better than he used to though before diagnosed with diabetes. Still his portions are way too large and his choices are sometimes not the best. He's lucky is all
WEll I got the shawl all done and will finish the beard hat tonight. I hope I hear from ddil soon so that I can start the next shawl.
Ginny, congrats in making a lot of headway on the baby blanket.

Good afternoon!
Phyl- glad you are finding coloring so enjoyable! There are so many coloring books on the market now for adults- you are not alone! My mom was a type 2 diabetic- and I well remember struggles getting her A1C in a good range. ITs good that you are taking the classes to stay on top of things. Yes,there are several new meds (very effective ones too!) out there now. The doctor had switched my mom to some of the newer ones just before she became ill. I am happy to hear that Betty is doing well-breaking a hip is no picnic. Having a good attitude about getting back to normal is critical and it sounds like she has good support. I wish her well and will pray for good healing for her.
Ruth- well that is a good solution to the Pom Pom issue! Yes they do take quiet a trimming- and sometimes they can be a little shaggy looking. Depends upon the yarn too. With Chunky yarns, they look a bit better (IMO) when well trimmed. Congrats on finishing the shawl. Bet it will be good to finish the beard hat. Lots of folks are not careful with their eating, and yes you become tired of counting/watching being careful. It's a blessing that Dh is doing pretty well (he is lucky!) without having to try too hard. I know every time I get my bloodwork done, the thought of diabetes scares the heck out of me- knowing the headaches that go with it.
Still making progress on the afghan. I will be exchanging one of the yarns I picked up yesterday- I was unable to get exactly the same yarn in AC Moore as I wanted - so I came close. Being that I can get the same yarn in Walmart, I will do that tomorrow. So glad you found the humor in my trip into AC Moore. When the going gets tough the tough go to craft stores!
Not sure when MIL will be released- waiting for them to come up with a facility for her. Fortunately, the transfer out is in SIL's hands. I do know that when this happened to my mom, she was discharged at 9 pm. Fortunately the place I had to drive her to is 5 minutes from my house.
Still chilly here. they say it's supposed to warm up some.
Hi to Meg, CJ and Gail. ginny

Good morning everyone, It's Thursday and the sun is shining, the wind has died down and the rain has stopped. Yesterday was a wild windy day. I have been staying home this week and I hope the car will be finished today. My car runs fine but apparently a lot of the rubber gaskets which are around everything have to be replaced as they were getting spungy and not sealing properly. You know how rubber bands break down after awhile well that's what was happening with my car. Since I plan on keeping the car it is worth spending the money to fix it. I have a Honda and if they are maintained run for years. My DGD worked for years for auto dealers and she knows all about car problems and she explained everything to me just like the service guy at Honda.
I finally finished my b/blanket last night so I have 4 b/blankets ready to go to the food closet. Now I am trying to figure what I will do next. I want to do something different I would like to do a b/blanket using the V stitch and then there is a knitting stitch I want to learn and probably tomorrow when I am at Knit Wits I will get help with that. One of the ladies said she would bring the pattern.
Ginny, I am sure you will be glad when your DMIL is settled. When I had my knee replacements I had to pay to for transportation to rehab. I don't think I would have been able to go in a car. I had my knees done 11 months apart so I has 2 stays in rehab.
Ruth, at our age spending a lot of money on a new car is pointless unless you have a lot of money that you don't know what to do with. I hope you can find a good new used car. I don't know how much longer I will be able to drive. At the moment I am fine I just have to remember that there are times of day when it is better I stay off the road. I don't drive after dark and I have to watch the sunlight. When I stop driving I will give my car to my DS because it is in good condition and It will ne good for a few more years as the mileage is low. I hope you are getting your projects for your DDIL and DGD sorted out. Having to wait while they decide what colors they want I am sure is testing your patience when you could be working on them.
Phyl, I am glad you are having fun with your coloring books. I wouldn't mind doing that as it would be relaxing. It would be a nice change from working on our needle work projects.
cj, how are you doing? you have so many projects going you amaze me. I need to spend less time on the computer which I have been trying to do. Right now I am trying to figure out what I am going to work on next.
Gail, It is nice to have you posting with us. What are you working on?
I wish you all a great day. I will try to check back later,

Meg, my car is 17 years old and only has 80,000 miles. I'd love to keep it longer. No I'd never buy a brand new vehicle. This one I'm speaking of used to belong to my son. He bought it in Germany when he was there in the Army then they had another child and had to get a larger vehicle. It's a nice car and I love it but I don't think that the dealer will keep admitting that it's the same problem that's recurring (because then they'd have to repair it free) so I'm sure I'd end up paying way more than the car is worth.I paid the $1000 that time because you,of course, can't get even a used one for that price and I thought that after that problem was taken care of the car would last a few more years but it didn't so that was pretty much a waste of money. Our other vehicle was bought used. So far, so good on that one. I just need to get a better battery for it I think. I like having a really good battery in my vehicles.I haven't bought a brand new vehicle since 1991. As you said, they just are not worth the money. I see many people buying brand new and they are people that live where there is lots of transportation available or the places they go to are within walking distance. To each his own of course, but it seems that you and I are in agreement on that issue. Here we have no public transportation and nothing is within walking distance and since dh has medical issues we need to be able to get where we need to go.So in the spring we probably will start looking around and see what we can find. We don't drive much as you see by the mileage on our car. That included ds driving on the Autobahn. us driving it home from Texas, then a about three trips to Arkansas or 4 maybe. We just don't go anywhere. We fill the gas tank about every three or four months and it's only a 13 gal tank. The most use it got was last year when ds and dgs came to visit and ds took dgs all around the state sightseeing.

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well Ginny - I loved your story about going to A.C. Moore Hope things work out with you MIL and she gets to the Rehab. I did like the actual candy cane pattern I embroidered, I just grew to not like one of the fabrics in the small quilt top and I just lost interest. But at least it's done now. Meg - I'm sure it feels good to finish another blanket, I hope you get to learn the new stitch tomorrow for your next project. Ruth - Glad to hear you are getting your projects done too. Both of my cars are older (one is 2003 and one 2004). I would like to get a newer car, but I drive so little right now I don't see the point and just try to keep these maintained. I didn't do any crafting today, but I did stop in JoAnn fabric and bought some of the fusible so I could try the applique for the block from this week. So maybe I'll work on that tomorrow.

CJ. good to see you I just got finished doing one of the things on my list for today so thought I'd stop back in. I wish we had a craft store of some kind closer to home. We have not ACMoore, no JoAnnes, No Micheals. Basically Hobby Lobby is it now and it's on the other side of town. They've been building a LOt of businesses on that other side of town and are now finally starting to build some over here. It was nice not having a lot of traffic over here but now that we're getting older we don't like to drive over there. The near Walmart (we only have two in town) finally reoopened their fabric dept...well prob three years ago now ...but I haven't looked in it to see what they have so next time I go there I'll have to check it out and see what they offer. I doubt they have much.I thought we were going this week because I thought I needed to get a couple little things for dgd's bday but I looked thru my stash and I had things so we didn't go after all.
