H Ginny, Ruth, cj, Phyl, & Gail. I have been getting behind posting but I have read all your posts.
I am sort of between projects and can't make up my mind what I want to do next. I have lots of yarn and I want to start another b/blanket but I want to do something different. I will decide today. I have been reading lot nothing new in that.
We had another storm but it is not raining now and the wind is not blowing quite as hard.
Ginny, Sorry your DMIL has a cold and I hope it doesn't last long. It can be difficult at her age so I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
This afternoon I hope to bring Janet home for a little while and I need to go and get dressed. Have a great Saturday. I will check back later.

I am still coloring in the book. 4 pages to go. problem is I have 4 I had already bought.
the binding is on a quilt and trimmed. now to sew the back on. then it can go to
we were bumin last night. I did buy the pretty kitty fabric. later on I will try to match it up with something.

I see guys and gals wearing pj's out in public here also. I think it is just plain lazyness. I know hey are comfortable but geez have some pride in yourself.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday phyl - I haven't posted my blocks on that site because I'm technology challenged and haven't learned how to get a picture on my computer so I can load it there Hopefully you can enjoy looking at the blocks others have posted. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear your MIL is sick, I hope it won't get more serious. I've lived here my whole life, so you kind of get used to living near Washington, D.C. and don't really think that much about it, but there are some things about living close that are nice I went to the quilt shop today and did get enough of the fabric I'm using for the 182 Day quilt that I hope will last me until the end of this challenge. I also went to JoAnn fabrics and picked up some things I needed there. I decided not to sign up for the class, I really think I can figure out machine quilting on my own. I have tried the walking foot and free motion foot before, so I just need to dedicate some time to practicing and then hopefully I can work on some of my quilt tops. There are some great YouTube videos to watch, so I'll look at those for help. One thing I bought at JoAnn Fabrics was a June Taylor quilter's square and blocker. It has a hard side and a soft padded side. I use the padded side to do my fabric pressing. Yesterday when I was making that block I was doing something on the other side of the room and smelled something burning. I looked over and I had left my turned on iron face down on my pressing board and it burned an imprint of the iron on it!!! I'm glad I caught it before it started a fire. wanted to get another one since I use it so often and was concerned that pressing my fabric over the burned section could cause problems. Take care everyone.

see that's how little I know about quilts. I thought that you sewed the backing on before the border.
CJ, I'm glad nothing caught fire too. I'm often setting my potholders on fire. Either that are burning my arm and hands. It seems like every time I bake something I either hit the arm or hand against either the shelves or the top element.
I finally got the velcro sewed onto the beard for the first beard hat. It wasn't easy but I think I have the hang of it now so after I make one for my son I might make one for two of the other grandsons. Not for the oldest because he has a beard and the beard on the hat wouldn't fit.

Let's see how badly I mess up catching up withy you all!!
Meg, enjoy your visit with Janet. It seems as though you are having her home more often. I hope that this is a very pleasant visit for both of you and not too stressful. Good luck finding another project! We know you will find something fun to create!
Phyl- you are really into those coloring books! Did you get out to buy the fabric or order online? Congrats on getting the binding on the quilt. I forget- what size quilt is it? And I do agree with you- the grown adults in Washington need to act that way- and just plain get along. The world does not revolve on their political views- although some sure think it does! And those pajama pants are fine for your home, deck or backyard. But out in a store? Forget about it.
Ruth, glad that DDIL is having fun with the girls. Thanks for the info on the heart shaped notepad holder....I am maxed out at the moment and would not be able to make it for awhile, but it sure is cute. Regarding quilts- the directions I will send you for the Irish chain actually have you attach the binding and then the back. ( essentially making a giant pillow case and then inserting the batting). The traditional method is to make the quilt top, make the "sandwich"- top, batting, bottom and then finally the binding. That is how you would make a quilt that would be judged.I know that is the. "Proper" way to quilt- but I have seen more than one source indicate that whatever works for you is fine as long as you are happy with the quilt.
CJ- I too am so glad that you did not have a fire! (Time to go back to Joanns and get a fancy iron....hahaha). See I can use any excuse to go to Joanns. You are right, watch a ton of youtubes, make a bunch of practice "sandwiches" and get used to the walking foot and free motion quilting foot. Yes, you can do this. It's easy, just takes practice. The beltway area sure is quirky- but yes, the weather is usually nice (not too many extremes) and it's really nice having good restaurants around too. My sister went to school in DC- so I have some experience there. And it can be awfully exciting living so near the nations capital.!
MIL was transferred to sub acute rehab yesterday afternoon. Nice room with a lovely view. SHe is already petitioning to be discharged to home, and I hope that DH and his sister hold their guns and insist that she stay there. From the experience with my mom, I know that having MIL live by herself is unsafe and a huge liability- plus very stressful for DH and his sister.
Getting little bit by little bit done on the afghan. Dd returns to school in an hour. We will miss her. Fortunately, she is just over an hour from home. This week will be super busy. I sure could use a snow day, but there is no snow on the horizon.
Hope Gail is having a good weekend, and everyone else here too!! Ginny

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well today. It's cloudy and damp here again today and we're supposed to get heavy rain and wind tonight and tomorrow morning.
I dread the wind, because my roof is not in the best condition and I always loose a few shingles with each bad storm. I really need to think about getting it replaced this year.
I didn't get to do any Slow Stitching Sunday work today yet. But I did thread 8 needles with embroidery thread to start another project. I bought these prestamped cross stitch quilt blocks (from Jack Dempsey Needle Arts). They give you six 18x18 inch squares to cross stitch and then after they are done you can put fabric sashing around them and make them into a quilt. I figure this is a good way to enjoy some stitching and also use up some fabric.
For the machine quilting, I've decided that tomorrow I'm going to get out some quilt blocks I've made (just singles) and put them together with batting and backing and use them as my machine quilting practice pieces. I should be about to get about 4 of these together and then I'll try to practice on them once or twice a week.
Ginny - glad you are getting to work on your afghan and that you enjoyed visiting with your DD. It's nice she isn't that far away.
Ruth - Glad you are making progress on your beard hats.
Meg, Phyl and Gail - hope you are all doing well.

CJ, It's always such a great feeling to master something new. I know you'll be really good at machine quilting by the end of the year and I'm sure actually sooner.
Yes, I do think that I don't care about the "Proper" way to make a quilt. I just want to use the fabric I have to make something useful. I know the fabric I have wouldn't be the "approved" fabric either.
Ginny, I'm glad your mil is settled in rehab. I think it would be a big adjustment for any of us to be suddenly moved from our home to a new place. I hope she comes to realize that it's for her own well being.
Oh CJ, on one of the youtube videos I watched there was a woman pressing her seams and she left the iron in the facedown postition and it lifted itself up. Not far but apparently enough to avoid scorching and burning.
Meg, Have you decided what your next project will be?
Phyl, my dgd wants me to make her a scarf and I'm thinking cable because making cables is really fun. I still have the pattern that a woman on the old WW board sent me...the palindrome scarf...cables same on both sides. I'd never made cables before and it went well. I've never made them since just because I always seem to have so much to do. I really don't though...it just seems that way to me sometimes.I do enjoy coloring with my grandchildren but I'm not so sure I'd like to sit here and color alone. I've seen some of the pictures adults have colored and many are very beautiful and some people even frame them. You do have a lot of interests. You seem like you enjoy every minute of every day
Ginny, I don't think you'll have a hard time whenever and if ever you want to make that heart. And thanks for explaining the backing etc and the Irish Chain you're sending the pattern for. Let me know if you're going to send it in snail mail because 36 pages will cost money to send and I'd like to reimburse you for that postage.

I'm sure the yarn I ordered probably came a few days ago but I haven't been to the mailbox to pick it up until today. I looks like great yarn and well worth the money. I've pretty much decided not to buy Red Heart yarn anymore. I told you about the problems with the Heads Up yarn and last night while working on ds' hat i found problems on the Red Heart Soft. I also noticed that my newer skeins of Red Heart in the same thing,,,,for instance, super saver, the new ones are much smaller than the old even though they're supposed to be the same weight skeins.I do like their With LOve yarn though. They are smaller now too! This one I got today was Caron something. I forge what it's called so we'll see how it is when I work with it. It looks like it will be prefect for some of the things I'm going to make for dgks although I don't know why I bought so much of the navy blue. It's hard for me to work with but at least it's not bad after the first couple rows.

Happy Sunday to you all.
I haven't done much this weekend. I did start another b/blanket but it is just basic crochet stitch. I have been looking at patterns but at least I can keep busy while I am looking.
Ginny, I did not have Janet home yesterday after all. I did phone the care home and they were to call me back and didn't. There is a young man who works on the weekends and I guess there wasn't anyone available to run her to my house which is very close. I stopped bringing her home because her balance and my balance are not good. About 18 months ago she toppled backwards and I was behind her and she knocked me down and she fell on top of me. She didn't get hurt but I broke my left wrist. I am glad you had your DD home it is good that she is not too far away and can come home for weekends.
I'll be back.

Ruth, I have a question for you. I have been looking at patterns on Pinterest and some of the patterns are free. My question is how do I print them out or is there another way to get them? You mentioned Red Heart yarn, I don't use it a lot but when I do I wash the finished project because it feels a wee bit hard and stiff. After I wash it. it softens it up a lot. What I don't like is when the yarn has been broken and they knot it together.
Ginny, I am glad that you have found a nice place for your DMIL. I am sure it is very difficult for your DH and his sister but sometimes we have to do it for our own sanity. When I placed Janet in a care home years ago it was one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make. But after years of taking care of her I was burnt out. This way I can still see her and supervise her care.
Phyl, I agree with you. enough said. Glad you are still keeping busy.
cj, I guess I missed something, did you burn something? Well I am glad you did not have a fire.
Now I am off to crochet my latest b/blanket.

Meg, I don't have a functioning printer so I can't print here at home. When I want to save a pattern I download it to my files. Then you could print it from there. I don't know if you can print right from the site the pattern is on or not.I sometimes do go to the original site of the pattern which it usually tells you on Pinterest. Most sites will be print friendly. If I want to print now that I have no printer I put the pattern on my email and go to the library where they allow you to print 10 pages on each visit for free. I don't know what browser you use but I use Google Chrome and on the right side of the space where you type in the site addresses you want to go to, There's a star. I just click the star and a list comes up that will save whatever I have on the screen to my files. I would bet you know how to download things though so if you download you could just click you're printer icon and print that pattern out.Anyway, I've taken a lot of workds to say pretty much nothing so I'll go to Pinterest and see what I can find that mightt help
The bad thinkg about printing at the library is that it's all black and white so you don't get a nice picture to go with the pattern.

WEll I didn't find out anything new Meg. I hope you can find out how to download and print from there. While looking there I did find a nice knitted headband with cables that I'm going to try sometime in the near future.
Oh and Meg, I know you used to make a lot of knitted hats. I got some yearn, alpaca, that i want to make dh a knit hat with. It's dk yarn so I'll use two strands so that it will be the weight of a #4 yarn but I don't know how many stitches to cast on. In crochet you can just keep increasing to get to the right size but not in knit. Would you know how many I should cast on?

Phyl, some people just wear the bearded hats as a joke to kind of pretend they have a beard. My ds want's one to keep his face warm. I made the one for my dgs just so he could kiddingly wear it to church or the homeschool coop as a joke for his friends. Here they would definitely me good to keep the face warm. I made mine with velcro so the beard could be taken completely off and the hat used separately

Ruth, I have a cap pattern which I have used many times. The pattern is on a DVD which I cannot find at the moment.. I do have a copy printed out. The cap comes in 6 sizes The sizes are hat circumference:
( 18 1/2, 19 1/2, 20 1/2) children sizes, cast on 69, 73, 77 stitches
21 1/2, 22 1/2, 23 1/2 adult sizes cast on 81, 85, 89 stitches
If you would like this pattern I may be able to type it out tomorrow. Or I will try and find the DVD and I can make a copy and e-mail it to you. Or I could send you a copy snail mail. I liked this pattern because it is a good basic cap. The rib is done with a solid color yarn and the crown is knit with variegated. But I have knit this cap in all sorts of versions.
