evening, yes I have been to beaver dam and nancy's many times. the first time joyce and I went for the day. we didn't know what to expect. then for several years us girls would go and stay overnight. made it a two day thing. we would sit in on the seminars. sometimes to a class. sometimes do the sit and sew for charity . lot of vendors. then it got harder to find someone to go with me., don did come a couple of times. they have the vendors and some stage shows in the big ware house. they have busses that take you to different parts of town where the seminars are. last time we had lunch at pondersoa. they arrange it.it is a experience.
any quilter would like her quilting expo in madison wi at the alliant center. we try to go every year. this past sept. there was more people there then I have ever seen. you could hardly move. I don 't know if it was because they found out she was drying and was afraid they wouldn't hold it anymore. according to her good-by letter she said it would go on. she will be missed very much.
another big quilt show use to be the aqs des moines quilt sow. they have pulled out and now this going to be held In virginia or west virgina..we didn't go last fall and that was their last year In iowa.
we had a good time with t he kids tonight. phyl

Happy Wednesday!
Phyl- thanks so much for sharing with us your special experiences at Nancy Ziemanns- I had absolutely no idea that she had her own quilting expo- or that you could spend so much time there! wow- sounds like you have really enjoyed yourself there and learned a lot. It must be quite a production- if buses bring people in and out and there are multiple seminars. What a treasure she was- and its great to hear that this will continue now that she is with the Lord. I am sure her family will make sure that it all goes on in memory of Nancy. Hope you are feeling well! So glad yo enjoyed time with your family last night.
Yes, Ruth, I slept late today....and while it has not been a restful day, I have enjoyed the time off.
I figure we will have a delayed opening tomorrow. Now we are in the ice/freezing rain portion of the storm. Ds is on his way home....I pray he travels safely. No crafting yet today, but I cleaned a lot and straightened up some areas that no one else seems willing to touch. (Not my stuff I was cleaning around....) so if they do not like how I straightened up- too bad! I did finally get all my fabric/crafting stuff in the same area. That will make things easier for me to go through my fabric, and get rid of that which I do not want to keep.. Perhaps that is a project for Presidents Weekend.
Hope everyone had a great day. Hi to Meg and CJ. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today Phyl - I'm glad you've been able to go to that big quilt show. I went to one in Virginia last year and it's almost overwhelming with all the quilts and vendors. We have one that's not as far from me that's pretty big too and we try to go there each year. I'm glad you had a good time with the kids. Ginny - Yeah for the day off, hope you've enjoyed it. It's nice to sleep late sometimes too! I hope the roads aren't too bad tomorrow and you have a safe drive. Ruth - I like to make goals even if I don't meet them, at least it gives us something to work towards and think about. Here's a link to a video tutorial of my favorite way to make a pillowcase. I've made several of them this way and they come together so quickly, and I like that she uses even numbers for her fabric yardage: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAomYjHzUQkA quilt and matching pillowcases would be a really nice gift! Meg - Hope you are getting in some crafting and reading. I had a lot going on today so I wasn't able to get back to the quilt, but hopefully I will in the next few days. I think I'm going to end up with an odd number (21) of blocks that I'll have to figure out how to put together. I do have lots of other 1930s style fabrics, so maybe I can use some of them to put in the quilt top to make a more normal size. It was rainy and cold here today, so a nice day to stay in. Take care everyone!

hi, nancy's sewing expo in beaver dam and the quilt show in madison are two different things. yes quilters come in by the busloads. In beaver dam school busses take us to the seminars and back to the warehouse in madison everything is all under one roof. food, senimars. classes and the show and vendors..
I do not know how nancy set things up and what was agreed to before she died. In her last blog she did say the quilt show would go on. now for beaver dam she sold out the the tacony company some years back.it will depend on what they want to do. as for the tv show she did say she hopes pbs shows it for a long time. her dh is warehouse manger. so how much say he has who knows.
today delona and I had fun. we me at the y. they were having a soup potluck. no to many stayed after chair yoga. most of us figured we didn't need sodium city. s owe went to culver's for lunch. delona had coupons and we got a dollar off the price. then she had coupon for sundaes. we both had the turtle. oh my gosh when she came back with the sundaes they were double scoops. mmm maybe the soups would have been better. then we went to Michael's. shopko and tj maxx.
in a little bit we will leave to go see a tribute put on b ythe gurthie brothers for simon and Garfunkel. should be fun. phyl

Good evening!
CJ- you found the perfect way to spend a cold and rainy day- at least planning your crafting.! With your creativity and the fabrics you have on hand, I am sure you will do just fine putting the quilt together!! You are full of ideas today- love the pillow case idea - with a matching quilt.
Got my call that we have a 2 hour delay tomorrow- which makes for a much nicer morning. I will check in with everyone then and see who posted this evening. G

Hey Phyl, our posts crossed......thanks for the explanation on the quilt shows and displays put on by Nancy Ziemann. Her Dh probably enjoys running everything in her absence- as though she is continuing her work. Sounds like you had a great day! Aw, those sundaes sound delicious - we all have to splurge once in a while. Enjoy the concert tonight also. Let us know how it was. G

Hello everyone, It is warm and sunny here it was 70 yesterday and probably the same today. I am sure the trees will start to bloom soon. I had injections in my eyes yesterday and that's why I didn't post. I did work on the b/blanket that I am crocheting last night and today I have been browsing looking at b/blankets on Pinterest. I probably knit or crochet this evening.
cj, I am glad you are motivated again and the break was probably what you needed. I take breaks from my crafting then I get motivated again. Good idea to stay home and do some quilting when it is cold and wet.
Ginny, I hope you enjoyed the day off. Though I could do without the snow and ice of course it is nice to stay in the warm house and look at the fresh falling snow. I missed the first season of Victoria. I always think of Victoria as a little old plump lady. So it is nice to see her as a young Queen. I hope you do get to visit England and Ireland some day. There is a lot to see. Last time I lived in England I lived in Suffolk which is part of East Anglia and it is a very historical area. Did you see that news item where the school bus driver had some problem and could not control the bus. Two students took charge and one drove the bus to a safe spot and the other phoned 911. They didn't say what the drivers problem was but it sounded like a medical problem. Hope your DS got home safely.
Phyl, That is fun when you can go to the quilt show and stay over night with a group of friends.
Ruth, hope you are well and that you are not snowed in. Take care.

Hi Meg! I keep trying to get off the IPAD and saw that you stopped in -Thanks again for the reminder that spring is coming.....for some of us (mainly me!) later as opposed to sooner. What trees do you have that bloom? Bet they are pretty. Hope your injections went well and that your body accepted the procedure well. Guess you are looking for a new pattern to work on? I have trouble finding the pattern on Pinterest- lots of pretty pictures of afghans but no instructions. Very frustrating. I would love to visit England and Ireland- Dh has been to both on business- doubt I will get him to fly again now that he is retired.
Regarding the bus, I will check that out. During our safety training (3X a year) we actually train the kids how to manage the bus in an emergenc- everything from how to drive it to how to radio in the emergency. GOod to hear that the training somewhere else payed off- hope that everyone was safe.
SPeaking of safe, Ds did make it home ok. He had to stay a bit late at work to finish a report. Thanks for asking

OH my goodness, there are so many posts. I probably won't remember what each person said so if I don't respond to all you said please forgive me.
I started the day looking at patterns. Yes Pinterest can be very frustrating. Some patterns you click on turn out to be just a picture, some are in other languages and some end up being those you have to pay for. I didn't get any crafting in yesterday at all except for looking at patterns then also. Today besides the looking at patterns I also moved some yarn from one box to another.
Phyl, very interesting about Nancy's quilt show and the one in Madison. You can get really great ideas from attending quilt shows or craft shows.
CJ, I haven't gone to that site yet. I went to one that Phyl posted once and I loved that one and am sure I'll love this one too. I'd love to make some pillow cases with the fabric I have
Today I've been cooking and baking, mostly baking. I made cranberry bread and a cherry crisp and some gluten free biscuits. I've nver had luck baking with gluten free flour but these biscuits actually turned out to be very tasty. They're not like the ones I made last week with regular flour but for gluten free they're nice.
Now I'm going to spend the rest of the evening crocheting...I think.
Ginny, it's great that you have a two hour delay tomorrow. And I'm sure it feels good to have all your crafting supplies in one area. And you're right, if the other's haven't done what they needed to do then they have no right to complain about how you did it...They should just be happy it's done.
Meg, just thinking about daffodils and flowering trees makes me happy. It reminds me of when we went to Arkansas in the past. The daffodils were beautiul and the Redbud trees, Mimosa trees,Magnolias, and forsythia. My neighbor had wisteria and azeleas and also jasmine or honeysuckle..whichever it was it sure smelled great. Everyone had irises. And there were violets...I hadn't seen violets in years.

Good afternoon all. I guess everyone is busy this morning.
I never did get to any other crafting yesterday either so the looking at patterns and moving yarn around was the sum total of all my crafting.I'm going to do more here in a minute but thought I'd stop in first to say hello. I also need to do a little more organizing but will do some crocheting first. Today was our garbage pick up day and I meant to put more in the bin but didn't get to it so will start gathering things (things that don't spoil of course) to put in for next time.I can't wait till spring so that I can work on my garage. It's not heated so no working in there in the winter. We did do some in the fall but I want to get rid of a lot of things that we don't and never will use again. So I do need to get busy on my crafting to get things done before good weather comes and I want to work on other things. Gotta work on the garden too this year. I'm anxious to see if those silver dollar plants will grow.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - thanks for the explanation on the two quilt shows. I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch and dessert and hopefully found some deals while you were shopping. Ginny - I'm glad you didn't have to go out on the roads right away. How were they later? Did you get a lot of snow? Meg - I hope everything went well with your injections and you're seeing better today. It's nice to watch the trees and plants when Spring comes, isn't it? Ruth - Your baking sounds good, hope you enjoyed it. It's amazing what they can do with food these days, and I see so many gluten-free products in the stores. I went out and did my grocery shopping today and also mailed some bills and birthday cards. February is a big birthday month for my family, October too. It's funny how the birthdays can bunch up into one month. It was sunny and cold here today, but it was a nice day to go out. I didn't make it back to my quilt yet, but hopefully tomorrow I'll have more time. This afternoon I've been watching the US Women's Figure Skating Championships that I guess were a few weeks ago. So many talented skaters, and their programs were beautiful. I used to love watching the Winter Olympics but haven't done that for awhile. I think this year I'm going to try to watch a lot of it again. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm glad you were able to get out and get your errands done. I love watching figure skating. I especially liked the men's where they did more unconventional moves and made it even more exciting.I don't know if we'll watch any of the Olympics or not.I'll have to find out what's available on the channels we get.
I don't use many of the actual gluten free products but awhile back I bought some gluten free flour as I was getting hungry for bread products. That ended up being a failure. I still haven't found a good recipe for bread. I may have bought the wrong kind of flour. I got Pillsbury all purpose gluten free and followed their recipe and the bread was tasty but nothing like real bread.I also bought a loaf of already made gluten free bread that ended up being nasty and gummy. Then I ran across rice bread that was on a closeout. Its good but for some reason all gluten free bread is very small slices and a lot of calories. Other than that I just eat foods that have no gluten and don't waste my money on actual gluten free products. Oh and I did one time buy a bag of gluten free pretzels that were also on closeout. They were fantastic but I wouldn't pay full price for them. Most recipes use a combination of flours..white rice, sweet white rice, brown rice, tapioca starch, sorghum flour, garbonza bean, pea flour, and several others in varying choices and combos. Most are very expensive and I wouldn't bother with them for that reason and because I dont need to be eating cakes, cookies, pies, etc anyway. there are many desserts you can make that naturally do not involve gluten. When I make dh's crisps I grind my oatmeal to flour and use that in place of the all purpose regular flour. IN most cities there are Asian markets where you can get the various flours esp rice flour for a very good price and sometimes they have a fairly good price online. Here we don't have any ethnic markets
I've been crocheting and will go back to it.

Hello everyone, It is another beautiful day here. Spring is here and the sun is quite hot. But we will have more cold wet days. I went to the dentist this morning for a cleaning. I have to go back Monday to have a tooth filled.
Ginny, my eyes are fine today and I don't have to go back for 8 weeks. There are many beautiful patterns on Pinterest, I love the color combinations. Some of the patterns have an e-mail or web sited at the bottom of the picture. It would be nice if they had the pattern instructions with the picture. That's great that you train the kids in case of an emergency. I think one of the boys was 14 and he sat on the drivers lap so that he could drive the bus to a safe place. The other boy called 911 and moved the younger children back in the bus and got them calmed down. The 2 boys did a great job.
Ruth, I can spend a lot of time on Pinterest browsing through the patterns and I love the color combinations. I am still watching and waiting for my daffodil to show up.
cj, I haven't watched the Olympics yet they sort of snuck up on me. I usually like to watch the opening when all the countries walk into the stadium and I missed it last night. Perhaps I can watch this evening while I knit.

Meg, it's great to see you. I do think the Olympic opening ceremony is tongight but I'm not sure. I do like to look at pinterest and sometimes save the pictures of various items just for inspiration but it's frustrating not to find a pattern there when you're expecting to find one. It seems like the ones I REALLY like are the ones with no pattern just when I want to make that particular thing.
