Good evening!!!
Well, tonight on the olympics is skating- and the opening ceremony is tomorrow night. I hope to catch the skating this evening with Dd......
Meg, glad your eyes are doing well today, and that you have 8 weeks off until your next treatment.
Ruth, are you still working on the Bible cover? Dietary restrictions can be so frustrating.....I have heard that going gluten free is very difficult. Much credit to you for being able to do so. Thankfully, with amazon and the internet, lots of difficult to find foods are a bit easier to locate.
CJ- hope you are watching the skating on the olympics tonight!!! Congrats on getting your shopping done and some bills and cards done. I always have trouble with January and February birthdays, we have so many December birthdays and of course Christmas, that I mentally shut down in January.
Been a long day- we started school on a 2 hour delay and then I had to watch DGS in between. Looking forward to Saturday....and sleeping in. Gonna go get in front of the TV and crochet awhile.
G’ night! G

It’s very disappointing that there is a commercial after each skater.😕

Ginny, it's good to see you. Having all your trips compressed into a shorter day must make for a very tiring day indeed. One more day and you'll have the weekend. You remind me of a woman I used to work with. She always worked day shift and I always worked evenings and nights. Day shift started at 6am so she would get up at 4:30 then on her days off she would "sleep in" till sometimes 6am. I can't imagine getting up that early. I had to do it a few times but it was not a good thing. Also when going to visit my ds and his family i also had to get up at 4:30 as we don't have a lot of outgoing planes here...that was awful.
Eating gluten free isn't really hard at all. Much of the food we eat everyday is gluten free. the problem comes when trying to eat out somewhere. the things that aren't gluten free can sometimes be made so that they are without even using special ingredients...for instance gravy. I'm mostly always used cornstarch to make gravy anyway. For snacks you can have chips, popcorn, fritoes and most kinds of candy. Canned soupls aren't easy because many of them have wheat starch. And of course if you want to have anything with pasta or any kind of noodles you would have to buy gluten free ones. And yes the added necessity to avoid acidic food adds challenge to it all too.I know you've had experience with having to avoid certain foods too. I can be done but you do have to be on your toes.
Olympics are on NBC so can't watch them except on the sattelite channels and right now there's some kind of skiing. The first couple skiers are interesting but once you see about 3 all doing the same thing it gets monotonous.
Yes I'm still on the Bible cover. I found a counting error on the first flap so had to rip half of it out but it's not hard to do it over. I did start the hat also but start is it. I've done the chain and first row of 11 dc's so not far at all but it's something I can switch too.

good morning, I did watch the skating last night. also the skiing. amazes me how those skiers can maneuver those little tiny hills so fast. I would think that would be hard on the back looks like fun. not for this gal. yesterday one of the other nbc stations had skating on all day. think some of it might have been reruns. sure hope nathan chan does better next time.
yesterday at the bus stop another a--h--- went through the buses red lights. she hooked her horn at him. by then he was up to the middle of the bus, stopped. then went on again. it happens so fast she can not get the licnese number. I was to a far away to get any information.
the tribute to simon and garfunkel was not as great as we had hope. for us it was hardtop hear when one of the brother s was taking. think he drops his voice. sometimes I think he talked to long between songs. some of the songs we could understand some not. we have been In that building before and no problems. don kept nodding off. I think maybe it was the guy running the sound system.
I did not go to wi today. our driveway had drifts along the garage doors. we did not get much snow. must have gotten windy laste night. part of our driveway looked lik it had already been shoveled.
I will spend sometime in my playpen. phyl

Ruth, don’ you hate it when you have to rip stuff out!!!!! I am sure you will regain what you had to take out quickly, its just so darned frustrating. Watched the skating last night on the Olympics- which was so exciting that I had trouble falling asleep. I am feeling a little sleep deprived today. I know we once bought some gluten free bread at Walmart, Actually, it was pretty good, but did not keep well at all. And you are right with most dietary restrictions, as long as you are on your toes, it is ok and not too tough.
Ok, enough babbling from me BBL G

Phyl, that is one of the dangers about these revival bands- sometimes they are just not that good. Glad you enjoyed the Olympics, I sure did! Regarding the jerk and the school bus reds, sometimes I ask my kids on the bus to catch a plate number for me. (Usually even the little ones are more than happy to oblige) also, if the bus has an internal camera, the plate number might be recorded on that. Just an idea.
Have a great day G

Good morning all. it's almost noon here but so far still morning
Phyl, I do like Simon and Garfunkel. Dh recently got a cd of their music as he could get it free on Amazon with a coupon. Sounds like you went to a concert. I particularly like their song Sounds of Silence as it's a Biblical reference.
Ginny, the gf bread I got was Franz brand. It was on sale. I haven't tried any of the others. I really don't eat all that much bread ever but wanted tuna sandwich so I got that loaf. Now I have a few loaves of the rice bread and it seems to keep well until it's opened then even when refrigerated seems to spoil easily as you mentioned.
I'm able to eat a little gluten without problem but I've elected to stay away from it as much as possible. Not eating whole packs of Oreos, wheat thins and Triscuits has helped me lose weight. When ds and dgd were here I did eat a little gluten. Dgd made biscuits and gravy so, of course I had to have some of those and we had a little birthday celebration for her and I had a small piece of her cake.I feel much better when I don't eat it though.
I think I've mentioned that I have Raynaud's. It used to be only in my toes but last year I could tell it was going to my fingers and this year it's really there. My index finger on my left hand is the most affected lately and when I crochet of course that's the finger that I hold the yarn around to keep the tension even so it now looks like I have a permant groove and red line. They really swell. I'll have to use a bandaid so the yarn doesn't dig in.No big deal though...nothing for me to whine about. It does leave permanent marks but I'm not going to be a hand or foot model so who cares.
Ok, way too much talking about myself.
I hope you all have a good day. CJ, do you have fun plans for today.
Meg, are you going to your knitting group?
PHyl, sorry about the frustration of the driver not stopping for the school bus. Not only is it frustrating, it's dangerous.
I wish I could have seen the skating but I imagine they'll have some on one of the channels I get. We'll see.Phyl, yes skiing is not something I ever wanted to do either. We have a skiing place here but I've never even been up there. My ds went skiing a few times when he was young.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today WARNING - Detailed information ahead about my efforts to put together a quilt today I actually got back in my sewing room to work on the quilt. After I finished pressing the strip sets, I decided I really didn't want to cut these up and sew them back together again. So instead I left the strips in one piece (about 40 inches long my 12 inches wide) and cut up some other fabric to sew between each set of strips. Once I put 3 strip sets together, with 2 pieces of fabric in between the quilt was about 40 inches wide by 40 inches long and I realized that if I kept adding the strip sets and other fabric it would be a really strange shaped quilt - not very wide but very long. So I decided to make two smaller quilts instead. Each one had 3 strip sets with pieces of fabric between them. Then I added a small (1 1/2 inch) border around each quilt to match the fabric I had on the end of each strip quilt - it was a white on white. I had to add little cornerstones on the border to make it match the length and width of the quilt - so I used the same fabric I used from in between the strip sets. I may add a 3-4 inch border around each of these since with the 1930s fabrics the quilts are a little subdued looking. I had one strip set left over so I cut that up into 8 pieces and I'm going to add a border around it and make a small table topper. Hopefully I can get all this done and get to that one other quilt top I'd like to get pieced. Then I really have to get back and straighten my sewing room, I was bad about leaving fabric laying around and I don't work well when it gets disorganized. I did watch some of the skating last night, but I'm looking forward more to the individual competition rather than the group. I'm going to watch the opening ceremonies tonight and then I'll have to check for a schedule of events online so I can watch for the times of the ones that I like. Take care everyone!

CJ, it sounds as though you are a VERY creative person but I think we all knew that. Putting together quilt tops sounds very interesting. It sounds as though you have a real understanding of what fabrics go with each other. I'd like to start by making a small table top quilt to put my small Christmas tree on next year.I'll have to think about what will go together well with the fabrics I have on hand. I have a lot of Christmas fabric. I bought it to make scrub tops for when I was working and although it's probably not approved fabric for quilt making I'm going to use it anyway.
DD posted an old video of #1 dggs in his crib trying to learn to crawl. There was a quilt in the crib made by one of his mom's friends. It wasn't a pretty quilt and it was very simple but I personally think it's great that someone went to all that work to make one for him.To me that shows great caring.
I haven't crafted yet today. I've been stewing over the fact that the doctor's office didn't leave my dh's actual A1c number and have been studying online about diabetes and proper medication so that I can be prepared in case she wants him to take meds. I also want to get him back on track with eating and maybe try to get him to do some exercise.I already mentioned meds and that didn't set well. if they had left his actual lab number in the message this may not have even been necessary to mention even the possibility of medication.

Good morning!
Ruth, take a deep breath.....try not to sweat things over Dh’s A1C, cause you do not know anything just yet. Oh, believe me, I admit its frustrating having only half the informatin- his A1C could be much higher or not significantly. Can you/would you call back to get the actual number? As I mentioned, my mom was on Lantus- which really did level things out and reduce her A1C. I hope you are successful helping him rework his eating, and perhaps getting him to get some excercise. I know excercise helped out my Dh’s bloodwork a lot. The simple baby quilt sounds adrorable. A good reminder that quilting can be simple and very charming, without all kinds of intricate cutting and piecing. What a lovely gift.
CJ- how exciting!! Your quilts sound so creative- what a great idea to put a quilt together that way and enhance the look of the vintage fabrics. Sounds like you got your creative mojo back! I made those 2 ingredient bagels this am- I made 4 bagels, 2 plain (Dd and myself) and cinnamon raisin for Dh and Ds. They came out really really well. My next endeavor is to make my own everything bagel seasoning- this batch I just used sea salt on top. The everything bagel seasoning will mask the flavor of the Greek yogurt even more ( I dislike Greek yogurt)- and I think I will have a winner. My dh’s comment was that we should no longer bother going to the bagel store, if I can make these! (We do not go often). Thanks for the recipes.
Got a few rows done crochetting last night. I had hoped to watch Olympics last night, but was just too darned tired. Will catch up on them today. I do enjoy watching the skating, skiing , toboggan - that kind of stuff. I totally do not get curling.....oh well, guess its me.
Hope to see Meg and Phyl check in today. Have a great day all G

morning, my neighbors(Sylvie (dog)parents)love curling .they go to mets in about a 3 state area. I think it is like golf. you have to try it first then you either love it or hated. I have no interest in either one. I love the skating and the bobsled. yesterday at my chiro I told him I think those who do the lunge are nuts. he agreed. we both agree that the skiers who did those little hills so fast and summer saults that has to be hard on the backs.
ruth my diabetic nurse told me a couple of years ago someday I could be on insulin. doesn't make any difference how good I am. diabetes is a disease that will change on us as we get older. just the way diabetes is. maybe you could mention that to dh. hope he is not in denial.
I have a friend who pulls her hair out over her dh. his blood sugars are out of wack. he has been in denial for years .they talk to him that only last for awhile. he had a stroke and has short term memory lost. also has had a couple of stents put in.
I am not sure skating is on tonight. hope so. the information I have off the yahoo page says tomorrow night. course things could have changed.
watching the ceremonies last night does it make you wonder how much usa might be behind In techonolgy? on gma saturday they said they use over 1200 domes for lightening effects. the domes were made out of plastic. oh boy what a honor and memory for the kids that were In the ceremonies. espically those five kids.
I want to go see the planters peanut mobile that is here today. our paper had article about it.
I also want to get to my playpen. been up since 5 no reason why I could not have been down there a lot earlier.
cj you did great on the quilt.
ruth go to you tube type In simon and Garfunkel. then click on the video el passa condo. you will see some of the places we were at in peru on our trip.the indies and the big yellow chuch is in it.
ok I watched sounds of slicence pleaes explain to me what is has to do with the bible. phyl

Ginny, it sounds as though those bagels were a huge success. I haven't tried them yet but my dh loves bagels, buys them all the time. We have no bagel shop but he buys them at the grocery stores. They are not like NY bagels at all.He likes the savory bagels not the raisin or other sweet ones. They do have a nice green chili bagel here. We like bagels only toasted. I was surprised that so many people here eat bagels cold.
PHyl, when I was cross training to diabetic ed(cross training to other departments was one of the hospitals great ideas that was not at all a great idea in many ways but I liked teaching so was all for working in diab ed) one of my coworkers said that she always tells people that in diabetes it's not IF you will have complications but what kind of complication you will have depending on many factors. Diabetic self care is part of it but each person is so different that many advance quickly to insulin and other meds even when being very compliant, some stay on oral meds, and some people actually are able to control their diabetes with diet alone for all their life.My dh has been lucky that his numbers have actually improved up to now with his bad eating. So who knows if it will go back to being good if he gets back to better eating. My cousin's husband had very bad diabetes and it was never really under control even from the beginning. He was a truck driver, a southern man and enjoyed eating. He lost both legs, one arm and the hand on the ohter arm due to his diabetes and infection and then had a major stroke when he was 40 and he died.My dh's step grandfather had diabetes, he didn't take care of himself at all either and lived a long life with few complications
Yes I do love watching skating, bobsled, louge or whatever it's called. Curling...well don't see much in that...it's very boring. I remember it used to be on a local channel every Saturday years ago.One of the nurses I worked with here did the louge thing.

Phyl, S&G are both Jewish but they didn'twrite the song just sang it. but I don't think the intent was to have a song that had any Christian relevance but if you google the song you'll see many opinions about this song either being satanic or having a Christian message. To me it starts out talking about people loving darkness...it's their old friend. Talks about satan and how he uses music to spread his influence. If you look at the words of popluar music today you can see just how evil some of it is. I believe this song talks about how we as Christians stay silent and dont speak out against these things that are going on in our world today. People listen but do not hear the truth and love to walk in darkness and many have a "form of godliness but denying the power thereof". People pray to the "neon god they made"...people nowdays are being deceived by churches that claim to be preaching the gospel but are actually preaching a watered down or completely untrue version on the actual real message. They also put the "neon god" first in their lives, honoring monitary success, having "things" and popularity rather than putting God first in their lives.
It also talks of the verse (in my humble opinion) Eccl. 3:7 a time to be silent and a time to speak"... time to be silent when we want to hear God speaking to us or when we need to learn more. A time to speak when we need to talk to people about God.
None the less it's a secular song that probably wasn't intended to be either a satanic song nor to give a Christian message but it always made me thing of people hiding in darkness and enjoying the dark and not wanting to know or live in truth.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you can get things worked out with your husband and find out the results of his test. I've had a family die from Diabetes after a double leg amputation and blindness. This disease runs in our family. Hope you find some time for your crafting. Ginny - I'm glad you liked the bagels. I'm looking forward to making them again. I split them in half and toasted them too and they were good that way. I wanted to make the pizza dough yesterday, but it didn't fit into my food plan for the day, so hopefully in the next week I can try that. Hope you didn't get too much snow. Phyl - I hope you got to see the Planter Peanut Mobile, that would be so neat. I think there is some figure skating on tonight. I have the Olympics on and I'm half listening to it, but look forward to figure skating later. Meg - Hope you are doing well and getting in some crafting and maybe listening to a good book. I didn't get back to the quilts today, but decided not to put borders on those two small ones. They will make a nice baby size quilt and I think the binding is all they'll need. It's raining here today but not as cold, so that's nice. Tomorrow is supposed to be rain all day, so it's a good weekend to stay inside. I made some Irish Soda Bread today. I used a Betty Crocker recipe and halved it. It was O.K., this bread is very dry and dense. I'm glad I tried it since I'd been wanting to, but it's not something I'd make all the time. Take care everyone!

CJ, your Irish soda bread sounds like the gf biscuits I made the other day. They're dry and dense too but they have a nice flavor. Not putting that edging on those two quilts sounds like a great plan to me. They're a perfect size for baby quilts and I know that whoever you give them to will be thrilled. I just hope they appreciate the work that goes into making one.
Ginny, I thought of you few minutes ago when my dgd emailed me and said she's working on embroidered pillowcases. Have you finished your's yet? I bet you had to set them aside to work on the baby blanket. My dgd, who will be 14 in the middle of March, said they take a long time and I know they do. It would take me forever. Although my grandmother taught me to embroider when I was a young teenager, I would not remember anything about it now
