Good Morning and Happy Presidents Day fellow crafters!
Anyone is welcome here to join in our discussion where we share our love for crafting and our weight loss journey. Even if you are not able to craft and just wish you were crafting....its ok- feel free to join the discussion!
Yes, I am off today (thank you Lord!) This might be the only day of the 4 I can enjoy and relax a bit. Hope to work on the placemats again, as I will be taking the final class to complete them next Saturday.
Going to go back in a bit and see what Meg posted last night....

Just went back and read Megs post....think we all understand the need to make something simple when watching the Olympics! Will you miss them when they are over? (I will). So sorry that you are most likely suffering from another UTI. Very wise of your doctor to permit a standing order for urinalysis- saves you a ton of heartache and gets you back on the road to recovery soon. Is Devin off all week or just today? I am sure it was nice seeing Janet yesterday, but if you are fighting an infection, it must have been extra tiring. Praying you can get to the lab quickly and start feeling better soon!
Its bird count weekend (backyard bird count.org) so I am keeping track of all my feathered friends at the feeder. Got some hooking in this am too...(does bird counting count as crafting? Do not think so.....but its fun anyway). G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm sorry to hear you might have a UTI, hope they can diagnose that and get you on medication soon. It's great that you can knit while watching the Olympics, I hope you are getting a lot done. I'd love to make a cake, but I know I'll eat it all myself, so I have to plan for doing something like that Ruth - I hope you are staying warm, those temperatures sound really low! That's a great idea to get the mug and then make the holder for it. I hope you'll be able to find what you're looking for when you get out to shop. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying your day off. How is the bird count going? What type of birds do you get in your yard? I'm glad you are getting in some crafting too. Phyl - Hope you are doing well and getting in some crafting. It's cloudy and misty here today, but we're supposed to have warmer weather the next few days. I'm not complaining since I don't want a lot of snow to shovel. I'm hoping to get back to some crafting, but I do have several things I have to do this week, so we'll see. I'm enjoying the Figure Skating on the Olympics, that's my favorite event. Take care everyone!

Hello to all. Yes it's always good to see Meg. Meg I do hope that if you do have a UTI that they will diagnose it quickly and get you on medication. As for the Olympics, it seems as though everytime I find a channel that has some of it broadcasting it's a hockey game.I never was a hockey fan although I've watched some games with my fil as he was a big fan having grown up in Canada.
Ginny, watching birds is great fun. I do love to see the few colorful birds that come here. There aren't many of them.Lately the birds don't seem to be eating the bird seed very eagerly so I have to get something different. I know CJ had the same issue with her birds
Well the weather is truly awful. I don't know how many inches we got but it's still coming down. Wind is already blowing some and there's even drifts on my porch so no going out today and probably not for several days. And it's cold too. The temp right now is 3 below zero.I'm glad we didn't have any appointments for this week but need to go out next Tues so hopefully by then things will be cleared up and snow gone.
So it's a good day to just sit and crochet but so far all the crafting I've done is looking at patterns. Last evening I tried putting on the "faux" cables on the fingerless gloves but that didn't work but they look good without those. I may try today in a different way but I think they're going to remain just ridged gloves. I'm leary about them anyway...the cables that is, because they could easily get caught on something. The sections of the chain you use are small and they are supposed to lie between the ridges but I think they could still get stuck on things
CJ, that is a great thing about rain...no need to shovel. It's great as long as it doesn't freeze and cause icy conditions.

Good evening!
CJ- think skating is also my favorite event- glad that this week is the ice dancing part. You must be enjoying that also. Do you have any snow to melt yet? WIll this week be that busy for you? at least with warmer temps you will not have to deal with snow or ice. mud is no fun either, but its not a hazard like winter conditions. Hope you had a great day and are off to start a good week!
Ruth, sure sounds as though you are in the throes of winter! 3 below??? (Think we got there once this winter). Gee that is cold, and blowing snow too. How much snow are you supposed to get, and will it be that cold long?Is there someone that will plow you out when you have to get out? I hope you figured out a good way to get around the faux cables on the gloves, you have mentioned being concerned about them in the past and how they get caught on things. You will get it figured out....and the gloves will look great.
Submitted my bird counts... our normal gang includes 2 different sparrows, chickadees, titmouse, cardinals, redwinged black birds, blue jays, a robin, nut hatches,2 different woodpeckers , juncos, 2 different finches and crows. Its taken years of looking to ID all the species, and yes they do like different feeds and in different containers. (Some like the long tube feeders, others traditional feeders and then there are the ground eaters. Its fun....
Got some crochetting done this am- and later on worked on the placemats. Think I will go back to crochetting for the olympics.
Have a great night G

Good morning,
Enjoyed watching skating last night (for as long as I could stay awake). Did not sleep all that well....but did get some crochetting done. Saw on a coworker an absolutely adorable pair of fingerless gloves! Will have to see if I can find a pattern like that.
Got a safety meeting this am- so have to return to work soon.
Hope everyone is having a good day

Ginny, good job on working on both the crocheting and the placemats! You know how I like making fingerless gloves so I'd be interested in seeing those if you find a pattern that looks like the ones you liked on your coworker. Since you mentioned working on both your projects I was inspired to work on my Bible cover. I got a whole lot of the sewing done and now just have to sew on the little pocket for a pen or two then the little Cross so that shouldn't take long at all. The I think I'll do just a little edging around some of it just to give it a more finished look and I'll be done. Last evening I sewed on the flaps and the strap. The strap took a long time since I had to get it placed right so the handles were both the same length, than had to sew on both sides of the strap. The other reason I'm going to do an edging is to attach the sides of the flaps which I didn't do when putting them on since it made putting the strap with handles on easier with the flaps just attached to the ends so the whole thing would remain flat. I was looking at fingerless glove patterns yesteday since I want to make a pair for ddil. Then I have to make some for my ds' oldest daughter who was the one that visited here with him in Sept. I promised her I would make her some and haven't got to it yet since I was working on other things. I actually started the pair that was her favorite but found I had mistakes so took it back out. I'll probably try that one again but may do her other favorites first. Then I still need to make some for my dd's "sister" because I don't think my dd showed her the ones I made before as I think my dgds appropriated all of those I think I need to do more crocheting and less wasting time. Have a great day all. Ginny and CJ, I'm glad you enjoyed the skating.

Hello Crafters Ginny - My snow had melted by the next day, since it got warmer. What a nice variety of birds you have, I'm sure it's a pleasure to see them in your yard. Ruth - You're weather sounds cold! I hope it's a little better there today. I'm glad you were able to work on the Bible cover some more. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both feeling well. It was so warm here today - up to 78 degrees!! Weather is so strange I laid out the blocks for the small table topper I want to quilt and hope to get to that this week. I'd really like to pick up some of my hand sewing - maybe soon. I had to clean mold off paneling in my basement today, since I have someone coming this week to service the furnace. This is an unfinished basement and the mold clings to the paneling. I use vinegar and water to clean it and usually once I do it stays gone for about a year. I really need to run a dehumidifier done there all the time, but I'm lazy about dumping the water and I also just don't like to go in the basement. The stairs don't have a banister and I worry about falling. I figure one day I'll have to get mold remediation done, especially if I ever decide to sell. Take care everyone!

CJ, sorry about the mold problem. Mold is a huge problem in many places. Luckily here it's dry so we don't get much mold except in rare cases in areas that stay damp a lot like if you leave a mat inside your bathtub.I'd love to see some of your 78 degree weather right now. It's warmed up alittle here today to about 12 but the wind is howling and blowing all that snow around so that it looks like a blizzard even though it's not snowing and it's building up the drifts. In answer to Ginny's question yesterday, no we don't have anyone to plow out our driveway so that we can get out unless the neighbor is bored and decides he wants to do it. He did once earlier this winter but there wasn't much anow then anyway. He just needed something to do.
I haven't gotten to any crafting today. Again I wasted some time in which I could have been crocheting but then I did get a couple other things done and found a couple patterns online which I need like a hole in the head but I'm always looking for better ones
CJ, it's always so good to see you.
Wonder how Meg and Phyl are today.
Now that it's 4pm i guess I'll go get breakfast. I've been to lazy before this to go up and get it.See you later

Long day for me- want to just sit and crochet- so this will be short.
CJ indeed, that stinks about the mold. You can get a dehumidifier and elevate it- having it drain out a window or into a sink with a plastic tube. That way you do not have to drain the darned thing. (We have a dehumidifier in our house too). Hope you get to work on that table topper- think having it out will provide inspiration to you! Yes 78 is warm for this time of year....hope it cools down a bit soon.
Ruth, well I went onto all free crochet and found “Alice inspired mitts”- which are close to what my coworker had on this am. (They were adorable!). Red heart.com had nothing close....those are the only 2 sites I checked. Hey looking for patterns is crafting. Do not beat yourself up.
Hi to Phyl and Meg G

Good to see you Ginny. I saw those gloves yesterday and started them but they weren't working for me. The writer of the pattern said they were the right size for her hands and that she had slim hands. They were turning out quite large for me then I saw where she mentioned that people had commented that they turned out big and suggested that you go down a hook size. Well I was already using a hook a size smaller than what she called for. There really wasn't a way to alter the pattern because the actual pattern of her stitches required a large number of stitches....multiples that you needed to chain was too big. I really like the way they look so I was disappointed that thye didn't work out.
I imagine that yes, after a long weekend the first day back is hard. Get some rest.

Good morning! Ruth, I literally just found the first pattern that sort of seemed like what my covworker had. The ones she had were adorable. I will snoop around on other sites and see if I can find something else that looks like that.....
Got some crochetting in last night and this am. Think tonight when i can finally sit still I will go back to pinning the bindings on the placemats, which I hope to sew on before Saturdays class. G

Ginny, I was wrong. That pattern isn't the one that is written strangely...that's a different one that I liked but couldn't follow her. It was translated I think from another language. The Alice one though, is the one that is big. I started it over last night to see how it turned out. I tried using 4 less stitches but the pattern requires a multiple of 8 so tore that one out and started over with the 32 it tells you to do in the pattern because I thought maybe the big part is for further up the arm and it does tell you to decrease in the 5th row for the wrist area so I'm going to continuewith it and see how it turns out. If it's too large for what I think my family members' arms are I can always donate them because there's always someone somewhere that they will fit.And as I become more familiar with the pattern I can maybe figure out how to adjust.
I did see a nice pattern I wanted to make called bamboo fingerless but it required #2 yarn which I don't have. Of course you could make it with any yarn but I did start that one too in Red Heart super saver and it was too bulky. Of course there are people that like bulky items. It seems like the trendy thing now to use even enormous yarn but with a little baby I don't think my ddil wants bulky things on her hands. Things that might catch on things when she's trying to do all she needs to do. And I think the bulkiness might interfere with driving too.In the fine yarn they're really nice so sometime I might get some fine yarn or, who knows, I might even find some in my yarn stash.
I hope that all of you have a great day. Ginny I do hope you will be able to get to those placemats this evening as you planned or hoped for
CJ I hope you have some enjoyable things planned for today and Meg, get some rest and relaxation in .Phyl, you're probably out there "bummin" with Delona...have a good time.
Oh I did work more on the Bible cover too last evening and now all I have is the edging which I'll do some time today. I was thinking of forcing myself to do it last night but our crafting is supposed to be fun, right...not a job we force ourselves to do

Hello Crafters The weather here was even warmer today - up to 82 degrees at my house! And it was nice an sunny. We're supposed to have a drop in temperatures the next few days and maybe some rain again. I didn't get to any crafting today. It's just amazing how quickly the day goes by and I don't really seem to do anything I've been focusing on getting back on track with my eating, since I keep having out of control days. So far this week I'm doing well. I've set a goal to be at or below my goal weight by April 1st. That will one year from when I reached my goal weight. The last several months I've just been up and down, and I'd like to get my weight more stable so I don't keep going through this struggle to lose after gains. Yo-yoing up and down will drive me crazy, so I really need to get a handle on this. Take care everyone!

CJ- you can do this!!! Sometimes the effort required for weight loss is sort of all consuming, so that you might not have the mental energy to craft. (Been there done that). Glad to hear that this week has been a good one for you- and I know you have the focus you need to quickly get back to your goal weight. wow 82 degrees!!!!! Too hot in my book....but your temps are probably in for the same 30 degree drop mine are in for, so it is short lived. Hope you enjoyed the day and the warmer weather.
Ruth, if anyone is able to figure out the fingerless glove thing, its you. Not tonight, but sometime in the next week I will see if I can find another pattern like that- which hopefully is better written.
Dh went out to Lowes- which left me with just enough time to get all the placemats pinned. (Yay!). Gonna crochet now, its too late for me to work on the machine.
Hope Meg and Phyl can check in- and yes, I agree Ruth, Phyl must be out there “bummin’ with Delona!”
