CJ, good to see you. Wow, over 80! I can't wait till we have some nice weather here. Yes I've always thought that maintaining your weight after losing is harder than the actual losing of the weight. At times it still feels like "dieting"because you have to be so careful not to let the pounds just keep sneaking onto your body.I'm trying to get a couple back off myself. I want to do it while there's just a couple to lose and not let it get up to too many. Last couple weeks I've gained about 3.I'm still under my personal goal and want to stay there so need to get these off while I can.I know you want to get back to your goal also. It's not easy but you did it before and can do it again.
I haven't got to any crafting yet either. Had to do a few chores then made dh a carrot cake. Then the neighbor also stopped over. He is really a talker. He said he just came over to ask if we wanted him to get rid of the bank of snow the plows made at our driveway but I think that his wife must be at work and he just wanted to talk to someone because he's never asked before he just goes ahead and does it. Unfortunately he lately has been talking politics and he vacillates but now is more to being left leaning...completely opposite of us.I hate talking politics because you can't really change anyone's mind. Then he said that Obama did some good things while he was in office so I asked him for one example...he said "oh he closed Guantanemo"...well of course that was one of Obama's biggest priorities but it never was closed so this man doesn't even have real facts but oh well...people do just like to talk...never mind that they're wrong.
So now I'm ready for an evening of sitting and crocheting.I have to get another list going to make sure I work on the things that need to be done first.
Wee you all later

Ginny, I thought maybe after I finished typing and hit send that you might be there. and sure enough, there you are.Good job on getting the bindings pinned. Now you're all ready to sew. And spending the rest of the eveing with your crocheting sounds like a relaxing thing to do. Yes the fingerless gloves will wait. I imagine you're planning on making them for yourself and you know how we always put ourselves at the end of our lists of things to do.j

well I worked on those Alice inspired gloves a bit more...up to row 8. They're just too time consuming and you really have to pay attention to each of the 29 rows. It's a shame because they really are VERY pretty. I ripped them out and will work on one that's simpler for now. I'll put these on my "challenge" list.

Hello everyone, I have had Devin home this week and DS has been working on the computer so not much computer time for me. Also I have been reading late at night and getting up later in the morning. Today Devin pulled a big bag of Valentines candy and that is a temptation I could do without. His mother will be out of town for a few days. Today I got my hair cut and I don't like it but I guess there is no such thing as a bad hair cut as it will always grow again. I may change hairdressers. I haven't done much crafting though I did stop at Michael's yesterday to get a skein of yarn I needed to finish my b/blanket. The store is moving to a new location which will be a little further for me but I don't shop at that one often. There is another store closer to me. I don't buy a lot of yarn because I need to use up what I have. I did watch the Olympics last week but some how I lost interest. I just want to relax and read. I had my lab test yesterday and when I got home the results were already in my e-mail. I haven't heard from my Dr. so perhaps I don't have a UTI or he may be letting the culture grow to see what develops. Anyway I am not going to worry about it.
DS, Devin and I went out to dinner last evening with friends so that was a nice change of pace. Tonight I will work on my b/blanket for awhile before I go to bed.
cj, Sometimes it is difficult to get back on track but you will eventually do it. I have been struggling to but I will also get back on track. Your weather is warmer than what we have here. We are in the low 50s this week over night it gets down to the low 30s. I am always cold.
Ginny, if you are crocheting fingerless gloves more power to you. I have never knit gloves only mittens. How is your bird counting going. I am sure that would be difficult to do. Good luck with that. How are your place mats coming along?
Ruth, I had a pattern for the bamboo stitch and it was easy to do. I might use it to knit a b/blanket sometime. I suppose you would crochet it. It sounds like the Bible cover is coming along nicely and you are taking great care with it to make it look beautiful.
Phyl, hope you are well and surviving the winter weather, take care.
Now I am going to get ready for bed. Sleep well.

Good morning!!
Meg, Good to see you here. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you, even if you do not have more stuff to do. Just having Devin home for the week disrupts any pattern to your days and while its great to have him with you I am sure it can be challenging sometimes. Think each of us craves some down time to ourselves. Plus he is probably on the computer a lot.... Well he is a good kid and its a blessing that you can share your lives with each other. None of us need more yarn, but I am glad you were able to find the yarn you needed. The good thing about a bad haircut is that it grows out! Changing hairdressers is stressful, I know it sounds so small minded, but think everyone understands the comfort in getting your hair done and getting what you asked for and not looking like a freak show. (Had one of those experiences once!). No, that is not me making fingerless gloves, I saw a super cute pair, suggested the pattern to Ruth (our fingerless glove queen) and regretfully its a bear of a pattern and has given Ruth a lot of heartache. I do want to try to make a pair for myself, however. Someday.....after I finish the baby afghan, a quilt, my placemats and 2 hats for the grands. Life is full, life is good. Hope that you get those lab results soon and if you need an antibiotic you can start before you become uncomfortable.
Ruth, well you are my test pilot for fingerless glove patterns. Sorry those Alice inspired gloves are so awful to make, what I loved about them was the ribbed cuff and slightly longer finger area allowing you to cuff them over. I found another pattern last night, do not think I sent it to you - but its a bit simpler. Perhaps even a piker like myself could handle it. Hope Dh enjoyed his carrot cake.!!!! Regarding your neighbor the lib, well, I agree, its best to avoid politics. You are never going to convert anyone anyway- probably best to change the subject. Once I was stuck in a conversation and in trying (tongue in cheek of course) to say something nice about them - I commented on that Barack seems really good at playing golf on the taxpayers dime, and that Michele is really good at eating lobster! Of course that went over not too well, nor did I expect it to. This is not a political thread, so I will leave it there....and mention that yes, President Trump plays a lot of golf- but uses it as a business tool and he owns the golf course.
Well, I did not have the energy I thought I had and only got a little crochetting done last night. Left it out, however, and our psychotic calico cat decided to have a little fun with the yarn. It was easy to put back to order.....actually made me smile this am. Hope to get back to the placemats in about an hour and get them all sewn up for Saturday.
rain, freezing rain and slushy snow today. Hard to believe it was almost 70 yesterday.

Meg, it's great to see you and it sounds as though you've had an eventful week. Yes you have a real closeness to your dggs which is great but it does have to be tiring at times.Little boys can have a lot of energy and also little girls for that matter.
Ginny, laughing about what you said about the former pres and his wife. I was thinking the same thing yesterday about saying something nice so I said well I never heard that he was unfaithful to his wife like Bill Clinton was to Hillary and several other of our past presidents too. And I quickly changed the subject to his diabetes. He loves to talk about that.
Ginny, I did appreciate you telling me about the Alice gloves and I do intend to make some sometime. But they are time consuming because you defintely do have to pay attention to the directions. Now the one you mentioned last evening are easy if you know how to do a front post stitch and if you know how to do a dropped post stitch which I do and love the way they look. Well I never did a dropped post stitch before but I've done dropped stitches so a post stitch is no different and they are easy. Today I think we're going out shopping because dh checked the driveway yesterday...he told me this after the neighbor was over....and the driveway is clear behind our car so we'll be able to get out fine so I won't get back to crocheting until after we get back home.
I think I hear dh now so will send this and get ready to go out...
see you all later

Hello Crafters Ruth - Hope the Carrot Cake turned out well. Sorry the gloves didn't work out, it's good you can just pull out the stitches and start something else. Hope you did get out today. I try never to talk to anyone about Politics or Religion, those are subjects that bring out strong emotions in people Ginny - Hope the weather isn't too bad there and the streets are safe for driving. It's colder here today, in the 50s and we're supposed to get rain showers for the next several days. I'm glad you were able to get some crocheting done and that your cat had a good time with the yarn Meg - I hope you are feeling better and I guess it's good to know you don't have a UTI, hope they can figure out what's going on. I'm sure you're enjoying time with Devin and how nice to get a meal out. I hope your hair will grow out soon. I've sure had my share of bad haircuts. I actually just cut my own hair now and have for years. I went out and did my grocery shopping and errands this morning and was back before noon. I like to get out early to do that to avoid a lot of traffic. I'm trying a new tea today - Twining's Orange Pekoe. It's O.K., but I just find that I really love the Red Rose tea the best - it has such a nice smooth taste. I received an Annie's Crafts catalog in the mail today, so looking through that will be my crafting for the day Take care everyone!

Cj, it is nice to get the errands done and get back home. It's 2:30 here right now and we just got home and put away a few things so Now I'm sitting and having breakfast. I don't like to eat before going out anywhere. Red Rose is definitely my favorite tea and they also have those cute little figurines in the box. The tea is cheapest at Walmart. I had some coupons awhile back so I bought enough of the Red Rose at walmart to use them and I've been drinking more coffee lately so I still have quite a bit of tea. They never used to have REd Rose here. When we first moved here my mother sent me care package with Red Rose. The other tea I liked was Salada. In fact it might be that kind that she sent me..it was a long time ago. A friend down in Arkansas got care packages from her sister with Red Rose in them...she lives in NY. So my friend gave me a few of hers when I was down there last. Then they started selling it here. In fact I need to send her some. I actually have a nice cup I want to send her anyway so will get some new Red Rose (mine is a little old) and make her up a package. Thanks for mentioning Red Rose, CJ. They don't sell Salada here either. Do they sell it there in the east?
Shopping was a tiny bit stressful. It seemed like dh was rushing me altho he said he wasn't. I love shopping myself because then I can take my time.
Streets and parking lots were a big mess because of all the snow we had the other day but we got everything we really need. We don't have to go out again now till Tuesday. They have a weird way of plowing snow here. They always make a hump in the middle of the street and when they do that on the side streets it sure makes it hard to drive and I can't even imagine how hard it is for some people to get out of their driveways with those humps there. They don't leave enough room to manuever..they call them wind ridges or wind rows.

I can't seem to get things right. I'm not working on the one Ginny told me about. I didn't have any bulky or chunky yarn down here last evening so I started a different pattern. I started so many yesterday I guess I got confused about them all. anyway the one I'm working on is called Rustic Rib fingerless gloves...Sorry about that Ginny.Anyway I think that's why I didn't work on that one. I may have started it and found it was too small when I used this regular yarn.I guess my memory is getting bad. I won't be one of those super agers they were just talking about on tv I guess.

Cannot wait for Friday....which thankfully is tomorrow!!! Ruth so sorry to share that I can get both Salada and Red Rose tea. Does Walmart.com carry it? And I think i put you through the ringer with those darned fingerless gloves. If I was not in the midst of trying to finish an afghan, I would give that one pattern a try....I do have a bit of a chunky yarn to see if it works or not. Sorry for the chaos. You know as well as the rest of us that taking on a new pattern can be confusing and challenging...not a good idea to beat yourself up, for sure! CJ- glad you got some crafting in. . Hope that the twinnings tea is not too large a box- so you can get back to your Red rose soon! Congrats on getting those errands done. Is the Annies Craft catalog good? I have never seen one....guess I am a bit curious. Finished sewing the placemats today, well, now have to go to class to finish them for real. I still do now know how to finish the binding, but will learn that. Have a good night all G

Ginny, congratulations in getting the placemats done and ready to go to the class Saturday. It's always fun to learn something new or a new way of doing something. Yes I'm glad for you that tomorrow is Friday. No you didn't put me thru a wringer. You told me about great patterns and I just needed to try them to find which one I wanted to work on right now. I love all the patterns you've shown us and have put them all on my list. I just didn't want to do a complicated one right now because I need to do some that I can finish fast to send to ddil and dgd.The first one is a little complicated but the chunky one is not so it will be done soon.
But now I do remember why I stopped working on those Chunky gloves. It was because they started with a chain being joined into a circle and I couldn't seem to get the circle to turn out right last night. The Rustic Rib ones, though, are also done in the round but for some reason it worked that time but I had already pulled out the chunky ones to use that yarn for the rib ones. I'm definitley going to be making the chunky ones...for sure. And I know your time is at a premium right now so I truly appreciate you sending me the info about the patterns you found when looking for some similar to those your coworker was wearing. I always jump at the chance to see a pattern that someone else likes esp when I know what good taste they have.
And laughing about the tea. I had forgotten about it when I went to NY last time which was back in 2006. I did actually go shopping with my sil and could have bought some but didn't think about it. Of course after that is when they started selling the Red Rose here not Salada though. All we have here is Tetley and Lipton, the Twinings and other specialty teas and now Red Rose.I haven't checked for the Salada on walmart's online site. I did find Bigelow's tea called "I Love Lemon" which I love and have ordered it. I'll have to go to their site now and check for Salada. Of course it's been nearly 30 years so maybe I wouldn't even like it now.

Yes they do have it! I'll definitely be ordering some next time I put in an order on that site. I see they have green tea and decaffeinated too now which I don't think they had back then. It's a great price too online. Just have to want to order some other things to make up $35 to get free shipping but I'm not in any hurry and I'm sure dh will have some things he'd like to order there sometime soon...Thanks for mentioning that. I probably would never have thought to check for it online. Now I have to go there again and see how much Red Rose is online because in the local walmart the REd Rose is more than the Salada is online so it's possible the RR will be less too.

Hi everyone, it has been a chilly day and we had some rain this afternoon. But not enough to do a lot of good. I hope it is snowing up in the mountains because we will need the run off from the snow so that we can have water next summer. I haven't done any crafting today so far but probably this evening. My crafting last evening was rolling balls of yarn from the skein I bought at Michaels so no excuses this evening for not knitting.
Ginny, Devin is a pretty good kid most of the time but he is very spoiled. A few mins. ago he wanted me to go to McDonalds because he said he his very hungry and he doesn't want anything we have in the house. He is a very picky eater and I wont cater to him like everyone else does. So I guess he will go hungry. When I was a kid we had to eat whatever was put in front of us. Freezing rain does not sound good and I hope you don't have to do any driving. I see you have lots of projects to keep you busy. I am working on 2 b/blankets and I would really like to get them finished. I am sure your table mats will look great after you put the finishing touched to them.
Ruth, I missed out on the carrot cake, sounds good. I have been eating too much sweet stuff so I am trying to resist the temptation. You have your DH spoiled though my dh always had to have cake in the house. I love carrot cake but I am probably the only one here who would eat it. My DGD#1 loves carrot cake but she is in Florida. I had an e-mail from them today with a picture they had taken on the beach. It would be nice to be able to go to the beach in Feb. I think I ordered some patterns from Annie's years ago. I wasn't very happy with the patterns because she had printed the pattern on dark green paper using black ink and the pattern was difficult to read. So I wrote to her and complained so she refunded my money. I think her web page used to be Annie's Attic.
cj, I haven't seen Roses tea here but they probably have it some where. I drink tea every day mostly Twinings British blend. I have to have my cup of hot tea every morning when I get up. I like plain black tea with cream or milk. The one tea I don't like is Lipton's.
I wonder where Phyl is? I checked over on the 60s boards last night because she hangs out there but I didn't see any sign of her. Hope she is keeping well.
I wish you all a good evening, stay warm.

Good morning!
Meg, good to see you here...my favorite tea is Tetley British blend tea- but I am also a big fan of Red Rose and several herbal teas. My mother would have laughed at me if I wanted to go to Mc Donalds as a kid.....and told me to find something in the house.
Rut, Yay! You found your tea!!! So glad, and its nice to know that Walmart will be able to ship it to you when you are ready to order it. I know you will master those fingerless glove patterns.....
Gotta get in the shower Ginny
