We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Good morning! It's dark, gloomy, and raining in my little corner of the world today. Hope your corner is bright and sunny.
Did any of you watch the CNN Town Hall last night? I saw most of it, and found it interesting. Clearly the people there were fed up and angry with the "do nothing status quo" approach to solving this issue. They definitely let their feelings be known. Clearly the Florida governor and legislators knew they would not find a warm welcome as they chose not to appear. The JA, of course, didn't have the courage to be there. So I did give Rubio a point just for having the guts to show up. But for the most part he gave his standard dance around the issues. He did say that he would "rethink" some of his positions, but it remains to be seen if he really will. I don't hold out much hope for that. His comment that when the NRA donates millions of dollars to his campaign it is because they are "buying into his agenda," was just plain laughable had it not been such a serious subject. The representative from the NRA just made my stomach churn.
Taking my mom for an eye injection this morning, so will be back this afternoon. This will be a hard day for her. Will check back later . . .

As for the second amendment, "a well regulated militia" to me seems to be well covered now by the National Guard in every state as well as our vast Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Just like we no longer need the Pony Express, or town criers, or if an enemy attacks we don't need a Paul Revere, we no longer need armed citizens in order to protect the nation. Just my opinion, but I'm sick of the second amendment being used as an excuse to allow wholesale slaughter of innocents. I truly don't believe what we have now is what those founding fathers wanted even had they been able to imagine where technology would take us. Just feeling sick of it all . . . Common sense has been laid to rest at the altar of the almighty dollar.
And don't even get me started on the asinine idea of arming teachers. You will really see steam coming out of my ears about that. I can tell you as a former teacher that the day I was asked to carry a gun would have been the day I resigned and found another career. As for armed deputies on patrol, a lot of schools have that now; but, by the time that deputy knows a massacre is in progress how many innocents will slaughtered in a hail of gunfire? And, whose to say that deputy will be left alive to tell the story?

I did watch the CNN Town Hall. Joyce said it so well, & her sentiments pretty much are how I felt about it, so won't repeat. I also watched JA "Listening Forum" at the WH yesterday afternoon when he said he wanted teachers to be armed. So, now he tweets out he did not say he wanted to "arm teachers" ... OMG I heard him say it & so did those in that room & then this morning he tweets he never said that! IDIOT!

I heard him say that too, Linda. If he opens his mouth or sends out a tweet, it's a definite sign that he's lying.

I didn't watch it. I couldn't do it. I am so over evil and deceitful politicians I will not waste an ounce of my time listening to any of them. Besides, we already know what they're going to say, don't we? More bull crap about thoughts, prayers and other lies piled higher and higher. Our children get slaughtered sitting at their desks and our politicians shrug their shoulders. Just like they did with Sandy Hook. How dare this country claim to be a Christian country? How dare we? Oh, that's right. Because we pray and think about the lives we've destroyed.
I also can't look at grieving and sobbing children or mothers and dads any more. I can't. I can't even dare to imagine that much pain and suffering. And then to be ignored, disrespected, and lied to by the people that are supposed to keep us safe and secure? No thanks.
I'd rather have a wisdom tooth pulled. If I had any left.

Feeling lots of mixed emotions today. It's DGD 18th Birthday today. She spent so much time with us when she was little & now she is a grown up young lady. Where did the time go. Anyway, the best gift she could recieve today would be to win the Region 7 Championship game tonight. But whatever happens she's had an amazing run as a BB player. I imagine there will be lots of tears after the game tonight no matter how the game ends.
Joyce...Thinking of you & Mom today.

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Luke 16:13
Replace the word money with the NRA. Christian nation? I think not.

Cheering on your DGD, Linda, and wishing her a very Happy Birthday! On my phone just waiting, and waiting, and waiting at the doctor's office. Probably will be here at least another hour.

Joyce, I know how annoying that waiting thing is. Why is that? Do they over book? I've sat in my docs office for over an hour sometimes! Her waiting room is always full too. She does work alone. She refuses to be part of some BIG corporation. So, we all sit there just like you are doing now. I've been going to her for over 40 years. She recently told me I'm the oldest patient she has. Not old, old. Meaning I've been a patient of hers longer than anyone else. I believe that because when I saw her for the first time I was in my 30's and a visit was $18.00! Imagine?
At least we have cell phones now. Who wants to read all those magazines about good health or listen to that tv blasting? lol. BTW, after I read my Birds and Blooms, The Post, and The Smithsonian magazines I drop them off whenever I'm in a doc office or other kind of medical center.
I hope you get out of there soon. Good Thoughts for you and your Mom!
Linda, I'm cheering your DGD on too! You must be so proud of her. What a great kid. She's going to do great things with her life. Go team!!
