Good evening!
Ruth, my goal has always been to make an almost crib sized afghan - now they really do not want blankets on babies, so that makes it inappropriate. I always figured a larger afghan is good for when they are older and perhaps want a blanket for napping or to watch TV with. So sorry you were unable to get work done on a potholder. But at least you were not hanging out at the doctors office too long! Once you get a few rows in on a potholder, it sounds like a perfect project! Small, and easy to carry- repetitious too. 40’s are absolutely ok for February! Wow, sometimes February can be very very cold.
CJ- it sure sounds like you are getting the quilting bug again! What design is the table top quilt? I like the idea of setting goals for crafting- it does force you to go through what you have waiting to be worked on and set priorities. It also makes it a good opportunity to check supplies...making sure that you have everything that you need.
Long day with the kids- they gave Dh a hard time. Tomorrow Dh is going to a funeral (his friends father passed) so I have DGS all to myself. THe weather is supposed to be pretty nice in the am, so perhaps we will return to the park. Will see how it goes.
Think I will sit and crochet awhile while I still have the energy to do so.
Have a great night! Ginny

CJ, it's great that you felt like working on the table mat again. I bet it's beautiful. I wish we could all see each others crafts.
Ginny, that's what I heard too, that you should not have anything in the crib except the baby. No blanket at all. I hate to see anyone uncovered especially a baby but it it's true that it's dangerous to have blankets in with them then I guess people shouldn't do it. I think a blanket they can have when older is nice or just when mom is feeding them or someone is holding them would be great. And also when in stores in a car seat...stores can be awfully cold.
Sorry the grandchildren gave your dh a hard time today. I hope they'll be better for you tomorrow. What do the children think of the upcoming arrival of a new sister?
I worked on the car tote bag earlier and am about to get back to it now so I hope you all have a great evening and get a good night's sleep.

Hello everyone,
It has been a long day. I didn't get enough sleep last night and I had to get up at 7 a.m. this morning. DS decided to change our cable and the whole package and the man arrived at 8 a.m. this morning and he was all over the house and up on the roof. So I will be off to bed early tonight. I am hoping the computer will be faster but I will have to get used to different channels on T.V. I was able to knit while all this was going on because I couldn't do anything else.
Ginny, Sorry your DH had his hands full while he watched his DGkids. I know you always plan activities for them when you baby sit. Little ones can be a handful if you are not used to taking care of them. I hope the b/blanket will be finished. The powers that be are always coming up with new ideas about what is best for our kids. It's a wonder we have all survived. How so you keep a baby warm if you can't use a b/blanket. I am sure your b/blanket will get lots of use. What will your next project be?
Ruth, the car tote sounds like a good project. I hadn't thought of making something like that.

I am having trouble with this computer so may have to get off. Sections of my post were getting blacked out.
cj, I am glad you are getting in the mood to do some more quilting. Your goal for March sounds good.
I had better close before I get blacked out again. I will have DS check it out tomorrow,
Take care and sleep well. I am going to stick my nose in a book......well my Nook. Good night.

Good morning!
Ruth, that car tote bag sounds really nice, very useful also. How are you finding the pattern to work with? Is it easy to follow? What kind of yarn are you using for it- for use in a car I can think that perhaps even non traditional yarns would be kind of neat.DDIL will love this for its practicality- she has a big family and a new baby. And cars do not have enough storage in them.kudos to you for finding such a great gift idea!
Meg- we all have become addicted to these darned computers (without which we would never know each other!). But it sure stinks when they do not behave or the internet is slow. I no time you will have your channels figured out. Mastering the new remote can be a challenge (is for me sometimes)- figuring out how to do what you wanted to do.. You will Havel it all figured out in a short while, I am sure. Hey, did you get your new glasses? Hope you slept well last night. Are you more comfortable now on the antibiotic?
Only got a little crochetting in last night. Hope to get some done this am....and later on. I am up a little early this am, just could not sleep. Dh is attending a funeral this am for a high school friends dad, so I will have DGS to myself for a few hours when I get home from work. THinking to taking him to the park again.
Gotta go get that work out in. Have a great day! G

Well ladies, good to see you all. It's great that you were able to get on the board Meg and I hope your computer issues are all taken care of. We did the same here a few times...moved from one sattelite tv to cable then to another satellite company. It takes some getting used to where your favorite channels are.
Ginny, how did the day go with the little one? Were you able to get to the park? I'm glad you were able to get in at least a little crocheting on the blanket. It won't be long now.
I did go to Walmart today but I forgot several things I took a list but didn't have everything on the list. I thought I'd remember..well I didn't. I did look at the yarn and they did have the cotton yarn color I wanted on the cone so I got two of those. I wander to buy some Mandala in a color that has silver and black but, although they had a lot of colors, they didn't have that one. I also got my pneumonia shot and she talked me into a flu shot while I was there. I'm sure flu season is nearly over and we don't go out much anyway but I just went with it because I was tired and just wanted to get out of there. I had a long wait in the pharmacy area and I had to explain to the woman putting in info in her computer how to do it.She kept wanting to put in Medicare and wondered why it wouldn't work. Well I told her I had an advantage plan. She FINALLY listened and put in the advantage plan numbers and found just what she was looking for.
Then I came home and cleaned up a little and started dinner prep and here I am. Now hopefully the evening will be just sitting and crocheting.
My ds called to let us know they're ok. They live very near major flooding and altho they had a little damage it wasn't bad and will be easily fixed he said.

Good evening Ruth and all who follow- Well, yes its late in the season but still a good idea to get that flu shot. Glad you got the Pnemo shot too- pneumonia is no fun and leaves you feeling awful for a long time. But you know that already. Good to hear that your Ds is ok - its always a worry when there is so much heavy rain and the chance of flooding. Praise God he is ok- and that he checked in to reassure you he was fine.
Yes took DGS to the park - he had such a good time. Lots of fresh air for him today- he ought to sleep well for his mom tonight.
Got a nor’easter coming tomorrow- I am hoping for a snow day- but the weather is supposed to be warm- they are still predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow. Makes no sense to me. have a good night all G

Hello everyone, we had heavy rain earlier today and now the sun is out. It has been a stay at home day apart from picking Devin up after school. The trouble I had with the computer yesterday was I kept getting large black spots on the screen. So I gave up. This is my first attempt at posting today. PB was the only web site where I had the problem. DS spent this a.m. trying to figure everything out. The computer is supposed to be faster but I haven't noticed any difference. I did get quite a lot of knitting time yesterday. In the evening I listened to a book and spent the evening knitting. I really want to get this b/blanket finished and then I can work on the one I am crocheting and haven't touched for about a week.
Ginny, I have finished the antibiotic. I do have my new glasses but I am going to have to take them back because my vision is not as good as I think it should be. I have an old pair of glasses and I have been wearing them. When I am Driving I see very well without glasses. so I wear reg. sun gasses. I hope you had a enjoyable time at the park with DGS.
Ruth, We haven't changed the company that manages our computer and all that stuff for ages. I don't like having to learn how everything works. I tell everyone here I have 82 years of information in my head and there isn't room for anything else. I am glad you were able to get your prescriptions and the rest of your shopping taken care of. I always get my flu shot in Oct''
cj, I hope you are getting a lot of quilting done.
I wish you all a restful evening.

Meg, we have one companty for our tv and the cable company for internet and phone. As my friend says, don't put all your eggs in one basket. I remember when we had everything thru the cable company so when cable was out we had nothing...no tv, no internets, no phone. Supposedly our computer acess is fast but I dont think it really is.I remember one time my father got glasses and he said he thought the optical place made a mistake I told him he was imagining things but he should take them back and have them check them. well he was right. They had put the right lens over the left eye and the left one of the right.
We had intended to have our flu shots in the fall but I procrastinated and didn't get around to calling to make an appointment with our doctor. Dh hadn't seen her since Nov of 2016 and I only saw her this summer because of my interstitial cystitis acting up. When we were there Tues she kind of seemed to wonder why I was there that day....well it was supposed to be an anual wellness visit as the insurance companies are calling it. I don't know if any of you have had one of these annual wellness visits or not but I'm wondering what they're actually supposed to be. Mine consisted of her listening to my lungs and heart and asking me if I had any chest pain ever or any abd problems and that was it. I wonder how much the insurance co pays them for doing about two minutes of work.OH and she did give us our lab results. She said she was going to look into what to do about my statin drug but I haven't heard a thing from her.
Forgot to say that I got the body of the tote bag done and now have only the strap to make and the tissue holder that goes on the outside. One of the things I forgot to get today was the cups I was going to use for a gift with the cup cozy I would have made for it, so now I have to think of one more thing to make for ddil. I have a hat, fingerless glove set, Bath poufs, and the car tote bag. I'd like to make one more thing but am not sure what Maybe I'll make 2 or 3 bookmarks for her Bible. And maybe I'll make a cup cozy or two and make them to fit my standard size megs. I imagine ds and ddil have some that size.
My dh saw the bath poufs just a little while ago and he really likes them so I need to make him some.

Ginny, I don't know how I didn't see your message up there. I'm glad that dgs had a good time at the park and yes he should sleep very well after all the fresh air and exercise.
I hope ou get your snow day. Sometimes they forecast the high for the day but that happens just after midnight and then gets cold so maybe that's what will happen and it will snow.
The arm I got the pneumonia injection in hurts, the other is fine. It hurt while she was injecting so I figured this would happen. She must have hit the muscle funny. There's really no way to avoid that. She did it in the right spot.
Yes the standard is now that everyone should have one Prevnar and one pneumovax after the age of 65.These vaccines not only protect against pneumonia but also any pneumococcal infection such as meningitis cased by pneumococcus and also pneumococcal blood stream infection.

Good Morning!
Ruth, vaccines (especially Prevnar) is one thing I know a fair amount about- the company Dh and I used to work for (now Pfizer) makes Prevnar, and both of us used to work in the vaccine division....Dh actually was the engineer who designed and helped run that building. Working for that company (which has been through many corporate mergers, and therefore name changes) was interesting. It did make me all the more aware of side effects and dangers of each vaccine. Dd #1 is old enough that when she was a baby she got the original whole cell DTP vaccine.....of course I was scared silly and watched her like a hawk as she got through the first night with it. I knew far too much about what could go wrong. I am a big supporter of vaccines, however- I do know that they are not perfect. Sorry that you did not remember to check out mugs while in Walmart. Think we all do that....go into a store with many things to accomplish and forget to check out everything. You have many other good ideas for gifts- and will come up with something else useful and nice. I so loved the idea of the new mug with matching cozy....might steal that idea from you someday!! Usually those injection site aches pass in a day or so. Hope your arm feels better soon. As far as your wellness visit, I guess that any interfacing with a health professional is better than none- but it sure does sound as though they could have been a bit more thorough. My girlfriends husband who was just diagnosed with Afib- which was discovered by urgent care (not known for the most thorough exams). So I guess the exam was better than nothing- although as a nurse I am sure its lack of detail must have frustrated you. And I love your husband for appreciating your efforts with a crochet hook!!!
Meg- are you feeling better now after the antibiotic? Sure hope so !!! Sometimes with those internet speed upgrades its a guarantee that the internet speed will stay more consistent during peak times. I hope that your issues with the computer and this site go away- its just so darned frustrating when you cannot accomplish what you want to do. My mom had similar experiences after her cataract procedure- she had to go back several times to get her glasses just right. I hope your optometrist will get it just right the next time! Good thing you still have your old glasses so that you can still crochet and see what you are doing.
Well, by now, with the length of my blabbing here, you have figured out that school is closed. (Thankful for that!). I pray that we keep power through the day and that all the trees near us are not impacted by the high winds. Its supposed to be a very nasty day.
Think I am going to go check out the news and crochet a bit. They say the west coast is also in for some bad weather. Hope Meg is not impacted by that. Have a great day- G

Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope your arm is feeling better today. Ginny - Hope your weather isn't too bad, glad you got a day off. The wind here is terrible. I have an old roof and I'm losing lots of shingles. I kept hearing a lot of loud bumping noises from the roof, so I just went outside to see what's going on. I have a modified Cape Cod house with a room on the back that is just one story. That roof doesn't have shingles, just some kind of tar covering that's been on there for years. Well that tar covering and the stuff underneath of it is peeling back and flying off!!! I know I won't be able to get any roofers out here for awhile since so many people are getting roof damage. I just hope I don't have leaking in the house if it rains - we did have some leaking before this tar stuff was put on. I might have to see about getting a tarp put over it or something. The joys of home ownership One of my neighbors had a tree fall over this morning and there are lots of other wind damages going on in the area. I'm hoping to not lose power. I've been keeping the house warmed up just in case that happens. I did get some clearing out done in my sewing room since I couldn't sleep this morning with the noise from the wind. Take care everyone!

Ginny, that is interesting. I didn't know you worked for Pfizer.I don't know a while lot about vaccines but I do think that healthy people should be responsible and have theirs. There are so many people that are immune compromised due to chemo drugs and various illnesses and of course age, that can't have vaccines and are very likely to have critical or even fatal complications if they end up with one of these diseases they got from some who just didn't want to be vaccinated or listened to rabble rousers claiming all kinds of things about vaccines. Yes there are plenty of real side effects for sure but some of these people really get carried away and make ridiculous claims. As expected the arm feels much better today and is only sore. Yesterday while waiting I could have been crocheting but just didn't think of it. I had my very small project with me and could have worked on it. Its just a diagonal dishcloth much like the ones we mentioned a lot on Meg's knitting thread on the old boards only that one was knit and mine is crochet. It also starts with 3 stitches and increases until you reach the width you want then you start decreasing. Last night I didn't get any crafting done but since looking at and buying yarn is included I did get some done there And I also looked thru some patterns to see what I would make and I found a great pattern for a mug cozy that is adjustable...and it's pretty too. and then I ran across some for hand sanitizer cozies too. Everyone needs hand sanitizer esp after changing diapers and wiping little noses and this way she can keep it fastened to her purse or diaper bag or the tote bag I'm almost done with. In fact I might make several but I have only one bottle of hand sanitizer and may not get out to get more so I'll just send the one in a "cozy" and send extra cozies and they can buy their own for those Ginny, I'm so glad you got a day off and a Friday too!! Long weekend! Weather here yesterday was wonderful and today is also on the warmer side and sunny but wind is terrible. I hope you don't have to go out in the bad weather and stay safe and also do some enjoyable things. I hope the rest of you also have a great day. Meg, I hope they fix those glasses for you and they end up right. CJ, I hope you have plans for an enjoyable day too.

Just an update - my brother called me and he is losing a bunch of shingles from his roof and was able to set up an appointment with a company for Monday. He gave me their number and I called them and they said they could look at my roof on Monday or Tuesday.
Fortunately we aren't forecast for rain until Tuesday so hopefully they can get here and secure the roof so I don't get any leaking. This is a relief for me since I was so worried about finding someone to get out here. House repairs cause me a lot of anxiety.

Good afternoon, CJ- wow you must be experiencing some really bad winds. They have said that many will see hurricane force winds- so I guess you might be seeing gusts over 50 mph. I would think you ought to be able to get a handyman or even your brother perhaps, to get that roof tarped. Some nice weather would be such a blessing- at least to take away the worry about your now compromised roof. Heck, bad weather is an awesome reason to craft!!! Hope your sewing room is nice and tidied up- ready for your next project.
Ruth- well of course you got some crafting time in- ordering yarn counts! What are you ordering yarn for? GLad your arm is better....and will get better and better as each day goes on. Yes, that always bugs the heck out of me that those anti vaccine types are not really relying on their own immunity but the herd immunity to stay healthy. Yet they espouse how they want to be natural.....and are sure as heck hoping that you do not give them the dangerous disease they are hoping not to get! 30 years ago the preservative thimersol was removed from all vaccines- (that is considered the no no- and the reason/cause of autism by many). So if thimerosol is no longer in vaccines (and it is not) then why is autism still on the rise? Ok, I do not want to annoy anyone here, but I do think there is a lot of misinformation out there. We are a better world without diseases like Polio, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough....etc.....and I know how those were eradicated. Aw, shut up Ginny.
Got some laundry done and am now going to start dinner- perhaps get a few minutes to work on the placemats.
Enough from me. If you are in the storms way, stay safe.
