CJ- that is wonderful news.....I just looked up the weather for Williamsburg- I know you are not too near that but figured it was not a bad guess- and your winds are around 30mph- plenty bad enough. So glad that your brother was able to find a contractor- and that you will be able to use that same person. I am sure that at the very least, they will be able to secure your roof with a tarp or something similar to get you through if they cannot complete the repair now. This must be a huge relief for you! THink we all understand your concern- and I am super happy for you. Hope you keep your power. Stay safe. G

CJ, I'm sorry about the roof issue. I've had those also and have had my roof replaced several time due to wind and hail damage. Down in Arkansas the little "fishing shack" we had, had a tar paper rood and the first year we spent more time there we had a horrible storm. All of a sudden water started pouring into the one side of the house thru the light sockets on the ceilings of the bedrooms. We went outside to look and the wind had done that to our roof too...rolled back the tarpaper. Well as soon as the wind let up dh climbed up onto the roof and tarped it. Then next day we went into town and got some tar and "glued" it into place. Good thing we were there at the time or the whole house would have been a giant mold lump when we got back there again. When dh was trying to get the tarpaper back in place he needed help. I had a huge height phobia but I had to do it so I prayed and God answered my prayer and I was able to get up there and do what I needed to do. I Hope they're able to get yours taken care of and that there is no water damage from the shingles being missing.
Ginny, that's one thing they keep insisting is wrong with vaccines. As you said that hasn't been in vaccines for over 30 years. They do indeed claim vaccines cause autism. I personally think that a lot of the so called autism we see nowdays is just bad behaviour due to lack of effective parenting. Yes there are MANY cases of true autism. But back about 30 years ago there was a massive "outbreak" of hyperactivity which became ADHD. Everyone seemed to want their kids to be "hyperactive". Now it's trendy to saw your child has autism. Parents don't parent anymore. Yesterday at walmart there was a young woman who was ther with her two children. She put them in one of those special carts with the two child seats and then when I saw her a few minutes later the little boy who appeared to be about 3 was having a major tantrum. He threw his shoes and climbed out of the seat and was kicking and screaming because his mother was trying to put him back in. She struggled with him for quite awhile and he was still kicking and screaming so I walked away.I wanted to go over there and spank him myself and explain why he was being spanked but of course I didn't.
Ginny, I didn't order the yarn, I bought it at Walmart. I didn't buy it for a specific purpose I just got it because it was such a good price compared to online. I don't know if I used it for my avatar on here or not but there was one of those grapics that said..." I think rather than knitting my hobby is actually yarn collecting". That must be me.

Just a quick check in. We have had heavy rain here today. I went to Knit Wits today and it poured on the way there. The rain took a break on the way to pick Devin up and then home but it is still raining. Usually on the first Friday of the month I pick Devin up at school and take him to the Library so that he can play Mine Craft but today I didn't want to spend anymore time driving in the rain than I had to. He was a little disappointed but he didn't create a stink about it. He could see the sky was full of rain. I did some crocheting this afternoon but I probably did more talking.
Ruth, how did you luck out and get a nice day when the rest of us had bad weather. We really do need the rain here so I do not complain and it does make the grass nice and green. Ruth, whether to have your child immunized or not is a big decision personally I would go for the immunization. If they had, had the chicken pox vaccine back in 1959 my DD might still be alive. No matter which way you decide you are taking a gamble.
cj, I am so sorry you had so much roof damage and I hope it is not too expensive to repair. I have a room at the back of my house that was added on and it has a roof covering like that. A few years ago I had my house reroofed and I had that flat roof recovered. I was told by the roofers that we should have the roof checked every 15 years so I will do that when it is time.
Ginny, when we have a bad storm I usually fill up a thermos with hot water so that at least I can have a cup of hot tea. We did buy a little stove that we can cook on. I have forgotten what kind of fuel it uses and we have never had to use it. I hope the weather is a lot better tomorrow. I have to go to Michaels as I need a pound of Love to finish the b/blanket I am crocheting. I have a 50%% off coupon that expires after tomorrow.
I am off to get myself ready for bed. Stay warm and dry and sleep well.

Hello everyone. It's looking like a nice day.I'm not sure what the temp is but wind isn't too bad.
Yesterday I made two more bath poufs. They take about two hours to make one since there are so many stitches. You start with 25 stitches then put three dc's into each for each of 4 rows so end up with 675 stitches which makes a nice full pouf or you could make more rows if you like. I also did a hand sanitizer cozy. Making these things I get so many ideas of how to embellish them and other things to make similar to them and different people to make them for. I just need to use my time more wisely. It's a great feeling to see the finish items. So now I'm thinking bath "spa" sets for family members and also a hand sanitizer cozy and maybe a cup cozy for Christmas. For the last few Christmases I've been giving hand made items.
I hope you're all having a good day and doing something you enjoy. I'll be back later after doing some more organizing and crocheting. I did look thru a lot of my yarn stast the other day and now have to put it all back in place.Anpther thing I forgot to look at at Walmart the other day is plastic clear bins. I'd at least like to have some for my good yarns.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks so much for the support and concern about my roof problems, I really appreciate it I went outside earlier and walked around the yard picking up shingles and pieces of whatever was used on that flat roof. Took me about an hour and I ended up with two large trash bags full. I'm going to do some research on roofing on the Internet this weekend so I'll know what they are talking about when they come for the appointment next week. Ginny - I live closer to Washington, D.C, and we got a lot more wind than I think they did down in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Hope you are getting some crafting done this weekend. Ruth - All of your projects sound so interesting. Those scrubs really do have a lot of stitches! Last year I considered myself more of a yarn collector than a knitter or crocheter And I'm definitely more of a fabric collector than I am a quilter! I'm glad you were able to get some yarn at a good price. Meg - I hope your weather is better today, glad you were able to get out to Knit Wits. Hope you can get some crafting in this weekend. The weather here is beautiful and sunny today and a lot less wind, but still windy. If any of you are interested Craftsy is having free classes to watch this weekend. I don't think you get to download any patterns, but you can watch the class for free. I did this one time last year when they were offering it and ended up buying a few classes to watch (but I think I waited until the classes were on sale). www.craftsy.com/ - Craftsy website Take care everyone!

Good afternoon!! CJ- sure sounds as though you had a lot of cleanup to do today!!! (Good for activity points though), Glad that the storm is over- and that you are ok. Very smart of you to take on internet research regarding your roof- then they cannot try to make you pay for work you do not need. Thanks for the heads up on Craftsy. I do check out their site a lot- and a good friend who is an amazing quilter has used them a lot for their blogs and patterns. I took a guess on where you lived.... and I do like Williamsburg, so I guess I wanted to check out their weather. Anyway, glad you are ok and will be able to get your roof repaired quickly.
Meg- well glad you got some much needed rain. Good to hear that Devin did not make a big deal about coming straight home. You do a lot for him- so for him to make that concession to you (you did pick him up after all!) was a good thing. Its all about respect and being coooerative. THink that what the anti vaccine gang does not get is that these childhood diseases- including chicken pox - are killers and no fun. So sorry you lost your Dd to varicella- we had a child in my home town who passed from it about 10 years ago, she was in her teens and she got a very bad case of it. Hope you got to Michale to get that pound of love skein!!!!
Ruth- you busy bee you- wow you got a lot of crocheted gifts done! Add the clear plastic bins to the mugs for your next Walmart run. Its great that they have so many different items in one store. Sure makes it easy for one stop shopping.
North Jersey and the one county in NY south of us got hit hard with winds and rain. We did not get much wind, but we got a foot of wet snow! Dd #1- only 15 miles from us barely got an inch of snow, and where Ds works ( a little further north) they got no snow at all. What an odd storm, and I do think it was due to the elevation of our town that we were just a little bit colder and it all came down as snow. We never lost power (thank you Lord!). And we have a gas stove, so I can always boil water....so blessed that we were safe through it all. I did finish the placemats yesterday. Overall they came out well and I am very happy with them. Gotta get back to crochetting tonight.
Hey, has anyone heard from Phyl? Wonder how she is doing.
Enough blabbering from me. See ya later Ginny

CJ, that is definitely a lot of shingles, etc that you had to pick up. And, as Ginny said, it's very smart of you to inform yourself on roofs so that you know what they're saying and you'll know if you need to get another estimate and opinion on what needs to be done. The last person that did my roof came while I was out of town. Dh was here and luckily I had told him before I left where the paper work was so when the man tried to tell dh that he owed more than we actually did owe, dh was able to show him the contract and the balance owed.
Ginny, that's a lot of snow. A couple years ago they had a huge snow storn in the Buffalo area and it was interesting to hear from my family and dh's family and see the difference in amounts of snow in each part of the city and suburbs.
Meg,I have to second Ginny's statement about how nice it was that Devin realized that the weather was not conducive to going to the library and didn't give you a hard time about it. As you said, he generally sounds like a great little boy but all kids and even adults have their bad times
After thinking about it I may not make bath poufs for everyone. Not only are there a lot of stitches, abeit easy ones, it does take a lot of yarn to make one.I may have to reconsider that one.
OH and CJ, I did see that Craftsy was having a free class weekend this weekend. I may just have to see whats offered and watch one or two. Thanks for the reminder.
As for Phyl, I think she posts on a lot of threads on the over 60's portion of this board so maybe by the time she finishes there she's too tired to come over here. I did see her name again while again checking on that girls that has been vomiting for a month now and also telling friends over there happy birthday. I don't read the particular threads she's on but as you know when you post often your name shows up and I saw hers maybe last night...not sure but it was very recent.

Ginny, I saw so many classes on there that I didn't know where to start. And I wish I could download them and watch later. This weekend isn't a good time for me. Also found that a couple of the gifts I got for dgd were not in the bags . I guess I'll send what I have and put in some money so she can buy what she wants.or Maybe dh will send her a silver coin. She is a coin collector so she would appreciate that I'm sure. We've sent her different coins hte last two years... one year all president dollar coins(not silver) and last year Susan B Anthony and Sacajawea coins in a book and she loved those.I have to wait to check the receipt to see if I was charged for the missing items because its in the bedroom and dh is sleeping. I also bought a couple pairs of pants for me and both are too big so have to return those.I actually thought they would both be too small.I think it's just the way they're made. They are the "relaxed" ones and apparently I should have bought the other style.I just got around to looking for the gifts and trying on the pants this morning.I've had things missing from Walmart before and they were good about replacing them or refunding my money it's just such a pain to have to go again because we don't usually go there very often at all.I think the "other style" of these pants is the "skinny type" which have skinny legs and I really do not like those so I'll probably just return them and go buy some at Goodwill or the rescue mission store. People donate really nice stuff there and the rescue mission store has a bag sale price so you can get a lot of jeans, dress pants or whatever for $5 and they're always clean and in good shape It's much cooler here today but I'm sure not as cold as it is where you are, Ginny.do you think they'll have school tomorrow? CJ I hope the rain has stopped and the weather is more pleasant. Meg, I know your state needs rain but it sure isn't pleasant to drive in. I'm so not used to rain anymore that it's really hard for me to drive when it's raining.

We will have school tomorrow, but they are predicting another system to leave 5 to 8 inches of snow here for wednesday. I would love another snow day!!
Ruth that is so discouraging that you did not get all the items home that you thought you did. I hope that perhaps there is still a bag in the car or somehow it is in a closet....what a nuisance that you thought you had everything. THink its happened to all of us. G

oh and Ginny, it's good to hear that you got the placemats all done and they turned out well. I bet they're beautiful
And yes I was thinking they might have fallen out in the car trunk. I don't really think so but could be so I'm going to go out and check soon. I'll check the receipt first though and if I wasn't charged for them I'll know they somehow got out of my cart or lost on the conveyer belt at checkout or something and I won't go out and freeze for nothing. It is almost 40 but it seems cold even though there's not wind. I think that yesterday it got to 55. One of the ladies on my other thread over on over 60's said it was 70 yesterday in Nebraska where she lives.I'll be happy when it's 70 here.Doesn't need to get any hotter than that though.

Hello Crafters Ruth - Hope you can find your missing items or at least see that you weren't charged for them. Your weather sounds mild, I'm sure that's nice for Winter. Fortunately it's been sunny here since if we had rain I know I'd have leaking in the house through where the roof is the worst. I'm hoping that I can get that covered or patched before the rain predicted for Tues/Wed. If you join Craftsy (set up an account) they will send you emails and sometimes they have specials where a class is half price or $9.99. I purchased and downloaded a few classes when they had those specials. Ginny - I hate the heavy wet snow, hopefully it will melt soon and also hope the roads are not slick tomorrow morning. Hope you do get another snow day this week. Hopefully the company that comes to look at my roof will be honest. They are a family owned business and my brother has seen them working on a roof in his neighborhood. I really don't want to have to go through dealing with 2 or 3 companies getting estimates. I know that's crazy and I should get the best price, but I don't like haggling and dealing with repair people so I'll see what happens with the first company. Take care everyone!

GOod evening!
CJ- I totaly understand. You do not want to have to deal with multiple contractos, and actually I do not bleme you. THere is a chance that you can get at least a n order of magniitude estimate online- at least to give you somthing comperable to reference. See if they wil give you a discount for being a senior or for paying cash - its worth a shot. Guess you are in for rain mid week....another nor’easter. Hope they can at least secure your roof before then!!
Well RUth, you are doing just what I would do- check the reciept and then the trunk. I have done some awfully dumb stuff with purchaes...and found them a day or so later.
;Craftsy offers free classes sometimes, which I have “purchased”. Have not had the time to check out much this weekend though. Dd and I am watching the Red Carpet show- I never watch the oscars, but like to see the sometimes pretty and lots of times strange dressed the celebrities wear.
Have a great night! G

CJ, I know that you mean. I did have estimates for my roof but I usually don't get them either for the same reasons. I do hope and will pray that it doesn't rain in your area until after your roof is secured.
I did find my receipt and found that I was not charged for those items that are missing so I don't know what happened to them but am happy I wasn't charged for something I didn't get. I'll still have to go there to return these pants that are too big but no hurry on that.
Meg, how are you doing today? Did you have Janet home yesterday?
Having some of the presents for dgd missing threw me off earlier and I haven't really been able to get myself organized yet today.I'm going to go attempt that now.
