This is a conservative thread to allow those with conservative views to express themselves. We welcome Republicans, Tea Party folks, and those who believe in the Constitution as written, not as interpreted by liberal judges. If you have liberal views we invite you to participate in a civil and respectful conversation. We would respectfully request that if you cannot post in a respectful and civil manner to refrain from doing so until you can. Good discussions are great - insulting arguments are not. We welcome discussions about our weight loss journey.

I wasn't going to start the thread this month but because Martha paid us a visit I decided to try one more month. I don't know where everyone went.
Martha. it is good to see you back. I am glad every thing is going well for you. I don't check into FB very often.
I read something that gave me some thing to think about. With all the discussion about guns and how to deal with the problem of mass shootings. The writer remarked that Hitler would not have been able to murder millions of Jews if they had, had guns to protect themselves. He also remarked that the Swiss were not involved in the war and the Germans did not invade their country. Their young people have to have military training and when they leave the military they are given their guns to keep.
Anyone like to comment on that.

I grew up in the South & guns are a part of life here as hunting for food is a mainstay. My DH always said he wasn't a good hunter as he just loved watching the animals in their natural setting but most Southern men loves to hunt & it helps their grocery budget. When I went to high school most of the trucks had rifles on a rack in them & it was never a problem - but then we had the Bible & prayers in the school. I feel like we traded them for gun violence. There is a price to be paid when we cut God out of the picture and so many don't face up to that. I'm sure we had unstable youth back then but I guess knowing others had guns stopped them from using theirs. It is sad to know that today our youth can't feel safe in schools like we did. No parent should have to bury their child because of such violence - but taking guns isn't the answer. It's like saying car wrecks kill so all cars should be banned. We're blaming the object not the person. Criminals will always have guns & if you take them from the ordinary citizens - who dies?

I too was encouraged by Martha's visit and I am encouraged by the start to our thread again this month. It got to the point it was just Meg and myself. I would love to see more participation here but it seems most of the people on the old WW message boards were of the liberal persuasion. We had a good group then. I will continue to check in here and comment on the news of the day as long as I see some activity here.
I find it interesting the Fox News commentators are contrasting the outrage against gun violence in the schools with the total acceptance by the left of the murder of thousands of babies by abortions primarily by Planned Parenthood who, despite their denials, are receiving millions of dollars in funding from the taxpayers. Where's the outrage about that?

Peg, it is good to see you back we missed you. I do agree with what you posted. When I was going to school we had Christian education also I attended church and Sunday school so there was a foundation at an early age. I don't think most children get any sort of religious instruction now a days. When I was growing up we often had a gun in the house. My father was a police officer and though he usually kept his gun at the station sometimes if he was going back on duty he would bring it home. I never heard of children or young adults taking gums to school or anywhere else.
Peg, I do agree with you that guns don't kill people other people kill people, and if they don't have a gun then they will find another way such as driving a truck or car into a crowd. A deranged person with a knife could do a lot of damage in a short time. If there is as will there is a way. Remember the pressure cooker bombing in Boston or the truck filled with fertilizer that blew up a Federal building a few years ago. Peg you and I lived in a whole different world.
Gary, I hope some of our old friends come back. In the mean time I will keep checking back. You are quite right there are far more babies killed by abortions than by guns and I have not heard of any members of the NRA killing anyone. I am not a gun owner or a member of the NRA. but I am happy that there are people out there who can defend us if need be.

May I remind our leftist friends that Cane killed Able with a ROCK! Do we need to ban rocks? Timothy McVeigh used fertilizer. Do we ban fertilizer? 9-11 terrorists used box cutters and airplanes. Do we ban box cutters and airplanes? Taking guns from innocent people will not protect innocent people. The problem is not guns; it is a Godless society. I too do not own a gun. I think I would be dangerous if I did, but I support those who do and are properly trained to use them correctly to protect those of us who don't own guns.

I had to chime in here because I agree completely. It's horrible that there are mass murders happening but it's not surprise The Bible says things are only going to get worse. And now, yes, prayer is out of school. Children are not taught respect for themselves or others. Criminals indulge in criminal acts. Making it illegal for law abiding citizens will not help. Murder is illegal, criminals still murder others. Robbery is illegal. Criminals still rob. Guns are already illegal in many places and the places they aren't illegal for everyone they are illegal for known felons to have. Yet since those people are criminals they still have guns.As far as I know this latest shooter is the first mass shooter to have gotten his weapon legally. On the only thread I post on other than crafting, the women there, although lovely people, are jumping right onto the bandwagon talking about "assault weapons" They, of course, have their facts completly wrong but their minds are made up and they want "something" done.I really do like these women but they are ill informed.
And yes Gary, where is the outcry about the murder of millions if not billions of preborn children. In fact many people even are advocating for abortion even up to time of birth. Many children have not only been aborted but have been born alive and murdered right after birth because the abortion process didn't kill them.
Rather than get rid of guns we need to get back to God and follow Him and be a good example to others. We need to raise our children and talk to our grandchildren about God and about the necessity of them living for God. We are living in an immoral and violent time.Again, taking guns from law abiding people will do nothing but render these people unable to protect themselves and others. If there had been a person with a gun in that school other than that boy that killed so many, that other person could have shot him and saved many lives.

It has been a busy Sunday though I haven't accomplished very much. I think the Oscars are still on TV but I didn't watch because they ruin the show with all their political comments. I am sure I will hear them in the coming week. I don't go to the movies very often though there are a couple of movies I would like to see, Dunkirk and the Longest Day. Hopefully I will be able to see them either at the movies or on DVD at home. I know very few of the actors most of them I am not interested in.
Hope you are all having a great evening.

Good to see some participation here. Welcome to all who post here in a respectful manner including those we may not agree with on everything. This would be a pretty boring world if we agreed about everything. I could post a lot here about LDS beliefs that would most likely offend my Christian friends here although we are just as Christian as you are. But then Christianity is offensive to other ideologies, most notably Muslims, specifically radical Muslims. Differences in religious beliefs has probably caused more wars than anything else. So why do I bring this up? Well, because I am preparing to speak in church in a couple weeks about the need for prophets, seers, and revelators which brings us to a brick wall with Christians who believe the Bible is all that God has ever said. An open minded reading of the Book of Mormon would show that this book is for our day; it contains many warnings about conditions in our nation and the world today and is another testament of Jesus Christ.
I did not watch one second of the Oscars. I knew it would be politicized from the beginning. Of course Fox News had to report on parts of it that were particularly offensive to conservatives. I miss the good old days when entertainers ENTERTAINED!
Well, I suppose I'd better get on with my day. I am off today and normally it is cleaning day but I really need to start working on my talk for church.

Gary, you wouldn't offend me with your LDS beliefs. I may disagree with you or other people on religion or politics but I'm not offended. People have a right to their beliefs and we just owe it to ourselves to make sure our beliefs are correct. I have a large number of friends that are definitely more liberal in their thinking as far as politics go. I don't agree with them but I do like them and even love some of them. Same goes for religion and I do pray for those I think are maybe mislead that God will show them the truth and that they will keep an open mind to hear Him

gramma15, thanks for your kind remarks. I find it interesting that people who talk about receiving inspiration from God recoil at the word "revelation" from God. So many so-called Christians are so myopic about the Bible being the ONLY word of God that they cannot accept that God still speaks today through living prophets and apostles and that there is other scripture. They are the ones who insist that Revelation says you can't add or take from God's word don't realize there were other books in the New Testament that were actually written after Revelation. In fact I believe there is a similar scripture in Deuteronomy in the Old Testament. I am following with interest the developments on a daily basis pointing out the hypocrisy of the left and the noose is closing around Hilary Clinton and her wall of protection is beginning to crumble.

Gary, I believe that God reveals things to us individually also not just to prophets When we have prayer and quiet time it opens our minds and hearts to hear what God has to say to us personally. As for the ohter prophets and seers, etc, well there are many false prophets... Not saying that your Mormon ones are false at all here. THe scripture in Revelation does not mean that nothing should be added to the Bible. You are correct about that. Many books were written after John was given the Revelation of future events. I've been to Mormon church services many times. I can't say that I agree with everything or even believe in the Book of Mormon or your other books but while at LDS services and classes (don't remember if you call them Sunday School classes or not) I don't remember them ever mentioning or studying the Book of Mormon. I always enjoyed going. The people were friendly and they have great family values. I know there are a lot of rumors about things that the LDS church supposedly believes..secret caves, secret doctrines and all, and groups of people that will hunt down and kill members who found out the "secrets" then left the church or who shared the "secrets" with non LDS member. There are many Christian denominations that I believe teach and preach false info. And there are many "feel good" churches that just want members so they teach great untruths about how you can do anything and God will still love you. Well yes, He loves us all but He is a just God and He set the plan of salvation and we do have to believe that He sent Jesus to save us and we have to live for HIm.He's not going to save everyone. It's our choice to accept or not accept Him. We are not puppets. There are many that think that just going to a church will save them for all eternity. There are some that believe that you are saved by being baptised as an infant. That's not so. Salvation has to be a choice that is consciously made. I'm really a real fundamentalist Christian.
I heard the other day that people were mocking Pence because he talks to God. Well I must be crazy too because I talk to Him every day. There is one mediator between God and man which is the saviour Jesus Christ. God tells us that thru the Bible so we don't need any others to be between us and our relationship with God
Ok end of preaching.
I do hpe you're right about Hillary getting her "just desserts". She and Bill have gotten away with far too much.
Neighbor stopped over the over day. He wavers in his political beliefs. Now he told me that all the things said about the Clintons was all lies. That is what is a lie. He hates Trump and says that any day now Trump is going to be impeached. I wonder if these people think that if they get rid of President Trump somehow that they will get Hillary...guess they don't know the order of succession and it sure doesn't include Hillary.

@gramma14, I don't want to belabor the points you make but do want to respond to a couple of things. You are right, we do believe in individual revelation and that it can be received in various ways. You are also right about false prophets. Many will be deceived by people who claim to have some special calling from God when they really don't. One of the gifts of the spirit is being able to discern false prophets, priestcraft, and the like. True prophets and apostles will never lead us in a direction contrary to revealed scripture. Not sure what meetings you may have attended. We do have Sunday School classes in which we spend a year in rotation on the Old Testament (along with related scriptures in the Pearl of Great Price), then the New Testament, then the Book of Mormon, and finally the Doctrine & Covenants and church history - thus we cover all of our standard scriptures every 4 years. In our Priesthood and Relief Society classes we are currently focusing mostly upon the most recent General Conference in which we receive counsel and instruction from our Prophet, Apostles, and other church leaders. Yes, there is much misinformation in circulation about LDS doctrine and practices. The best way to find out if they are true is to ask an active member. You would make a good Mormon because you already have the basic doctrine down.
Yes, I agree. The liberals sure don't have a grasp on who would become President if Trump were impeached. If Trump were removed from office they would get Pence! Horrors!!! If they get Pence too then Paul Ryan would become president, I think, or is it McConnell? Nowhere in the line is loser Hilary Clinton.
