PHyl, great to see you. I know how it is getting ready for company. I did that last summer in prep for my ds and dgd coming to visit. I think my dh's cousin might be coming this summer so I want to get started. I really need to call her and see if she has some idea of when she might be here or if she's going to be here. I really need to invite my sister to come and visit too.
Plan was to go out today but dh is still sleeping so I dont know for sure if that will happen today or not. If not today then Monday.
I worked on those fingerless gloves last night but again had a problem with the putting the chain into a circle. I really need to watch a youtube on that. Then I had trouble concentrating I guess because I had trouble with the main part after I did get the cuff done.If I wanted to give up on the circle thing I could just make the cuffs flat them make a seam.I's sitting here looking at the fingerless that gave me so much trouble last year that I finally conquered. It's a great feeling and they're so pretty.
Ginny, I was concered about your dd going into labor in the snowstorm and not being able to get to the hospital. Was leary of mentioning it because I didnt want you to worry but I'd bet you were also concerned. Went thru that when one of ds and ddil's children was born in February 9 years ago.Luckily all was well.God does give us the care and protection we need.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm so upset for your DGS about what his teacher did. That is totally incorrect behavior by an educator. I hope his parents talk to the teacher about this. Sounds like you have several projects going again. I hope you can find out when your guests might come to visit so you can prepare for it. I'm not someone who could deal with something like that without a lot of notice. Phyl - I wouldn't pay for that pattern for the cross mug rug either. I think it would be pretty easy to figure out the dimensions or find them somewhere else on the Internet. I hope you have been enjoying your reading and glad that you feel like doing things again. Hope you enjoy the sew day tomorrow. Ginny - I'm glad to hear that you are close to finishing your crochet project. I guess it's the baby shower tomorrow? Are you having it at your house? I'm sure it will be fun. I love to Oooo and Awww over those cute baby clothes and items. I did get a call from the Insurance Company today and they said a local agent will be calling me to set up an appointment. Meg - I hope that you are doing well and getting in some crafting. I'm excited for this weekend since I get to go to 2 quilt shows - one on Saturday and one on Sunday. It's fun that the quilt show year has started up again. I'm really going to enjoy just looking at the quilts this year. Last year I was so focused on buying supplies I needed that I didn't enjoy the quilts as much, but I don't need to buy anything this year (well - maybe some fabric ) so I can just soak up all the beautiful quilts. Take care everyone!

CJ, well of course you will need to buy fabric. Theres always room and a use for more fabric. I'm glad you're getting to go to two quilt shows again. They have only one a year here but I'm going to go to it this year whenever they have it. I'll have to look it up online to see if I can find out info or I'll call one of the quilt shops here. I think there are two in town
We did end up going out after all. I think dh wanted to get it done so we went to the bank and then post office and two grocery stores. We didn't actually buy all that much. We didn't need much and didn't have room in the freezer for any frozen things so it was mostly produce buying day. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot of motorcycle riders out. Then since we left home late we ended up out at the time people were picking up kids from school which held up traffic a little but I bet none of you would consider that much traffic at all.
PHyl, if you stop back in I was wondering if you remember a woman named Janet Malone who used to post on the old WW board. I think she lived in your part of the country and had a big get together at her home for a bunch of WW;s who lived fairly near. I know she took over the Journaling thread from DorisR...not the Doris that still posts...then she left the thread and Jenny and I ended up keeping it going till the bitter end. Anyway I was wondering if you had heard from Janet and if she's doing ok. I have such fond memories of so many people from old boards. I think there was a woman named Angie that also lived in Wisconsin
While out I picked up my mail and had a nice card and letter from a woman I used to work with back in NY. I usually hear from her only once a year at Christmas but this year she didnt send Cards. AT our age when you don't get a card you figure the person might be deceased so it was good to hear today. I did know she was alive though because I have several other friends from back there that keep me updated.
I need to go downstairs and get my fingerless gloves to work on before dh falls asleep. Shopping wore him out and I don't want to go in there while he's napping and disturb him
I was wondering, too, Ginny...is the shower tomorrow or Sunday?
See you all later

I wanted to thank all of you too for the kind thoughts for my grandson. He really is a very good person and has a very kind heart. My dd did say she was having a meeting with the school administration...she probably should have talked to the teacher first but maybe she did. I didn't get all the details.

Hello everyone, It has been a busy week. I have had Devin home from school all week with a low temp. and a nasty cough. But he has not been a lot of trouble.
We changed the company we have all our TV, Internet and phone service and there may be something else I really don't pay much attention unless it doesn't work. Well we had trouble with the computer and the TV. and we have been receiving lots of wrong numbers as we have a new phone number. So they sent someone out at 7 30a.m. yesterday. Hopefully everything works now.
I gad a Drs. apt. yesterday and a dental apt. this morning. On the way home I stopped and got a few items at Walmart. I took a nap in my recliner when I got home. I have been able to do some knitting in the evenings. I am working on 2 b/blankets and both of them need more yarn. I sent off to get the Lyon Brand I wanted and it should be here in a few days. The other b/blanket is almost finished and I am going to have to buy another skein of yarn to finish that. I will do some knitting tonight and listen to a book.
Ginny, what a lot of snow I hope you have lots of food on hand and whatever else you might need if you loose power. I would think they would close the schools. But I guess you are used to that type of weather. I haven't lived anywhere where ythey have snow for many year, actually 47 years, Are you giving the shower? That will be fun.
cj, I am so sorry you had so much roof damage and I hope that the ins. company will pay for all the damage. I hope you can relax tonight and get a good nights sleep. I am sure you will enjoy the quilt show and get some inspiration to make more quilts.
Phyl, good to see you back. I get like that sometimes and I just don't want to do anything. You probably have cabin fever. I didn't want to get out of bed the other morning but I managed to get up and I felt much better after I was up awhile.
Ruth, I am sorry your DGS had that experience at school. That teacher was very insensitive and should be made to understand the damage she can do to a young child. When my #1 DGD was finishing 5 th grade she had a teacher that I went and talked to the principal about. Apparently the principal had other complaints about this teacher and he said my complaint was the straw that broke the camels back. It was the end of the school year and I didn't think a lot more about it and my DGD was going on to Middle school. However when I took my #2 DGD back to school the principal saw me drop her off and he asked me if I could come in and talk to him in his office. He said that teacher was no longer teaching at his school. Apparently he had quite a lot of trouble with the union. The teacher was transferred to another school in the district.
I am off to my room to knit until the yarn runs out and I will listen to a book. Good night, sleep well.

Good morning- great to see Meg stop in! Meg, I have to laugh, you ended your post with the thought that you will knit unitl the yarn runs out. Now I figure that you have ordererd more yarn, but I know darned well that none of us ever runs out of yarn! . Hope that you slept well and had a good evening. Devin sounds like a good young man, being sick all week and not causing you any trouble. Its a wonderful thing that you can share your lives with each other like that. Yes, I grew up in this general area and am used to snow during winter. The year DD#2 was born we had 2 cconsecutive winters with heavy heavy amounts of snow- our driveway was merely a tunnel through 3 to 4 feet of snow accumulated during several large storms. Yes we have plenty of food in the house, powdered milk and the like too so that if we could not get out we would be fine. I have to laugh when the mayor of NYC tells the residents to go out and get 2 or 3 days of food in the house, I do understand that people in cities go out for everything, but not to have 2 or 3 days of food in the house sounds absurd. Gotta go find my recipe for the face scrub and get that done. Hope everyone has a good day Ginny

Meg, it's a never ending thing...we get yarn, make something...don't have quite enough yarn so have to buy more so there we are adding to our stash. I hope Devin is feeling better by now.The teacher that embarassed my dgs is a man but nevertheless you are all right and I do hope my dd and her husband get this all straightened out.
Ginny, Yes it seems absurd to me too that everyone doesn't have 2 or 3 days worth of food in their homes but you're right. Many Ny'ers ..the city... do either eat out all the time or order takeout to be delivered.some I hear don't even have a kitchen. I also cant see why some shop the way they do but we all have our preferences. For example I do this and I know CJ bought 10 cans of soup because it was on a great sale and she said she had a stock of tuna (as do I) My dh's sisters and his dgm had no idea of how to be frugal. They would shop and buy just what they wanted for the coming week. If they had soup twice a week they'd buy two cans even if it was on sale. then since they ate soup twice a week every week, the next week they would go back and buy the same soup for a higher price. I just didn't get it. I also don't get why people buy things in small containers that cost more than the larger container. Dh's dgm used to do that too. She'd buy the tiny can of veggies that cost more than the standard size can..why not just buy the larger one and throw away what you don't use or better yet find a use for the amount that is left. They all complained of not having enough money yet they had no idea how to handle what they had.People here also will buy a quart of milk that costs more than the half gallon.I saw a man the other day buy two boiled eggs and it wasn't just for lunch right then because he had a regular size grocery order. There was a man behind me in line one day that had 2 bananas. I had a lot so I told him to go ahead of me and he explained that he came to the store every four days to buy 2 more bananas. Said he and his wife had banana every day on their cereal.(guess they only had half a banana on it each day).He was an elderly man and looked frail. I doubt that when he becomes unable to get to a store that there will be anyone willing to shop every four days for two bananas for him.. Maybe he just wanted to get out of the house.
Ginny, hope the making of the scrub goes well and you have a good time at the shower.
CJ, have a great time at the quilt shows.
Now I'm going to work on cleaning my "office"...my living room couch...it's full of yarn and some completed items and I have three different kinds of yarn sitting on the coffee table.Same with my bedroom. I often sit on the bed and watch tv and crochet so there's barely room for me on my side of the bed because of all the yarn. (it's my "office" too)

Thanks for the reminder, Ruth- cannot wait to hear how CJ liked the quilt shows!!
I am totally with you , Ruth- we have several cans of canned chicken, some tuna, LOTS of soups, pasta, sauce...I have several things that I alwyas have an extra in the pantry of, so I rarely run out. Thanks for sharing the story about the old man and the 2 bananas. He and his wife sound like they could be fussy and only like bananas a certain way- or, as you mentioned, he just likes to get out every other day.
The face scrub came out great!!! Looks so cute in the jars- I am very very happy with that project. I highly reccommend making face scrubs - a quick and reasy gift.
Lose an hour of sleep tonight....darn!!!! The clocks go foward.
Gonna go get some sleep. Ginny

Hello, I hope you are having a lazy Saturday. I haven't anything except clean the kitchen sink. It is overcast and cooler today.
Ginny, well I did knit last night until I ran out of yarn. J should have gone to Hobby Lobby today but I know that area will be busy so I will wait until next Friday. I have to buy a whole skein of yarn just for a few rows. I will probably give the lefy over yarn because it is not my favorite shade of grey. I sorted through one of my boxes of yarn this afternoon and I have a lot of nice yarn that I need to use up or give away. I have lots of yarn but not what I need. Sounds like your DH is anxious for the new baby to arrive and I am sure you are as well.
I have to go and talk to the Dr. about my glasses. I have been using a pair of reading glasses I got about 4 years ago I can't find them any where so I am having a problem reading at the moment. Otherwise I can see very well without glasses. The eye clinic is near Hobby Lobby I was writing checks today to pay DDs bills and my writing is terrible because I couldn't see what I was doing. I am glad you have lots of food so that you can survive a storm.
Ruth, Good for you as well having a good stock of food on hand whether you are facing a storm or not. As you know I go and do a big grocery shopping about every 32 weeks. When I was first married my DH took me to the commissary and told me to get enough food for 2 weeks because the military gets paid every 2 weeks. Everybody shopped that way and I am still doing it. I do go the local stores for odds and ends like milk and bread. DS goes with me and he is always looking for a good deal and if it is on sale we get several so we always have lots of food in the house.
cj, I hope the quilt show went well, you will have to tell us all about it.
Phyl. Hope you had a great day.

Meg, it's always so nice to see you here. Yes I've seen for a long time that you do your big shopping only every once in awhile not every week. That's the smart way to do things. Sometimes dh and I go to the stores every week but sometimes its much longer and when we go it's to look for bargains or take advantage of the sales. We usually don't have anything we really need becuase of being stocked up. Like Ginny we even have powdered milk which isnt bad if you mix it ahead of time and get it cold. Not that we actually drink milk. Dh uses it in his iced coffee which he drinks all year round and on cereal and we use it for cooking if the recipe calls for milk. We usually have plenty of bread on hand. When regular milk is on sale we also buy extra and put it in the freezer if we have room for it. Bread too. And for fruit and veggies here in the middle of nowhere fresh veggies and fruit aren't all that good so we mainly buy frozen.Milk doesn't freeze well if it has any fat. Luckily we use fat free.
Ginny, your scrubs sound wonderful and the recipients are going to love them. Is there a recipe you can share. Most of the recipes I've seen call for about a cup of sugar and a half cup of some kind of oil then some essential oil for fragrance or even some kind of herbs. Most people said a half cup of oil is too much and they used only a third cup some used evoo, some used castor oil, some grapeseed, and some coconut. Then they put in the essentail oils too but, of course you use only a few drops of that.
I worked on a fingerless glove today after doing my cleaning but then I ripped the while thing out. Didn't like the way it was looking and it's the same one I just made and sent to my ddil but this time I was trying to adhere strictly to how the pattern is written and that's not working so will start all over. I want to make others but feel compelled now to finish these.

Good afternoon everyone.I Hope you are all enjoying your day. Ginny has the baby shower to look forward to or maybe it's going on now. I'm like CJ and like to see all the cute little things that are given and received at baby showers. CJ probably is at the quilt show. Meg and Phyl are probably keeping themselves occupied too.
After struggling to find out what I was doing wrong on these gloves I THINK i have it now. It looks good anyway. I can't wait to get them done so that I can try another pair.. I also need to do the couple things for dd for her birthday (along with other gifts of course) but those things take very little time. I think it was Ginny who asked how I will do the Harry Potter cup cozy and hand sanitizer cozy...well I'll just use the colors that I've been told are the correct ones and do a little stripe in the middle. Oldest dgd turned 26 yesterday and I have to remember to tell ddil happy birthday tomorrow. At my age one day is like another so I often forget what the date is and miss telling someone happy birthday on the exact day. I'll make those same items for another grandaughter in that Japanese cartoon character..Pokemon. Never could figure out why adults would be interested in living out cartoons and fictional characters but it does give me things to make I guess.I don't know a thing about either HP or Pokemon.
I may have to bite the bullet and work on my tax this week too. I thought of making Easter things but its too close and I don't want to feel pressured. In the birthday box I just mailed I did put in some stuffed animals that are "Eastery", bunnies, lambs, and ducks. They're some I already had in the house from my Precious Moments collection of stuffed animals. Time to let go of some of these collections. Then I had a bunny that says "my first Easter" which I bought for one of the older children and never gave so it works out great for the new grandson.
Well enough blabbing. I'm going to work on my gloves and later make some soup and a couple other things. See you all later

Blessed Sunday all!!! Meg, glad you were able to stop in to say hello. Its a shame that you will have to go out for another skein of yarn just for a few rows, but that is good thinking-buy the yarn, finish the project and then donate the rest- or give it to someone at your Knit wits group. Hope that you can locate your reading glasses - perhaps you have found them already! Not sure if this will work with your eyes- but I have a pair of those inexpensive readers (walmart sells them as do most of the groceries and pharmacies). Yes, I have my prescription glasses but will use those cheapos in a pinch. Ruth , below is the link for the oatmeal scrub. I used orange oil to fragrance it, and did get some coconut oil on sale. I only bought coconut oil thinking it might impart its own fragrance, which it does not. Next time I think I will use EVOO- I can get that much cheaper. The shower is over and went well. It ended about an hour and a half later than I intended- so I guess everyone had a good time. I started this post this am- probably others have checked in since then. I will submit this post and go back and see who else was here. www.storyoffive.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/oatmealsugarscrubessentialoils.jpg
