Hello Crafters Sorry I didn't post the last few days. It was a busy two days and I was out of the house most of the day and into the evening on one day. But I had a wonderful time at both quilt shows and also had some good meals out (and stayed on plan/track). There were a lot of beautiful quilts, I'm always amazed at how talented people are. Even just as far as picking the colors of fabrics that will match well in a quilt pattern is a skill I envy. I didn't buy too much either, just a few pieces of fabric at the quilt guild tables and I did purchase a few quilt panels, here are two of them: www.nancysnotions.com/product/artworks+lighthouse+fabric+panel.do?sortby=newArrivals - I love lighthouses www.ebay.com/i/362261825452?chn=ps - I bought this one and another Christmas one too I read all the posts from the weekend and it sounds like everyone is doing well, I hope so. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm glad to hear that you had a wonderful weekend looking at all the amazing quilts. Yes putting fabrics together is one of the skills I just don't have. The panels you bought are very beautiful. So I have a question. When you get the panels, do you then just put in the batting and backing then the binding? Do you stitch around the things in the picture itself like the buildings, etc?
Beautiful day here. Nice and sunny and 50 degrees and no wind. I should go out and walk but I probably won't. I have to make soup first then I'll be too tired...well good excuse anyway. I'll do indoor exercise instead.

we had a good time at saturday's sit and sew. I made 6 blocks with 16 squares In them. we sewed for charties .that is what the tissue holders will be for.
I keep thinking about ordering a unicorn panel to make Hannah a quilt. but the I hAve some carousel horse fabric that will work. she love dressing like a cowgirl. .

Good evening!!
CJ- so glad you had a great time this weekend at the quilt show. THink you needed an “upper” like that, last week you were (and rightfully so!) so very concerned about your home and how the roof would make it through the storm. Getting away with some good company (your sister in law?) to something as pleasant as a quilt show is a good thing. I really like both panels that you bought, they both remind me of Thomas Kincade- very pretty......what are your plans for each? Congrats too on staying on plan- or within the points range of what you wanted to eat. I know getting back on target was a goal of yours- and that can be very tough to do!! Glad to hear that you are off to a great start. And with spring weather coming, well getting outside to do yardwork or walk is easier. All good for getting to your goal weight again!!
Ruth, well if your goal was to get some activity in today, I hope that you did!!! Back to yesterdays post, give that sugar scrub a try- I have not tried mine yet, but I really love the way it came out and how amazing it smells. Would make a great gift for your grandaughters- and at Walmart.com I got a nice deal on these sort of plain half pint jars. They are not mason jars (not that brand) but can be used to can with I guess. Anyway, I thought 12 jars for $8 was a pretty good deal- and they were here in 2 days. Now to add something funny to this story.....I needed to spend $30 or $35 to get free shipping.. So I ordered the jars, a new rain slicker (I really needed that!) , a dinosaur puzzle for DGS and then needed one more thing to push me over the minimum purchase. So I remembered that I needed new needles for my sewing machine- and Walmart had them at a good price. (Dd will be making a baby quilt for her soon to be born niece so she will need them too). So I ordered the needles. The jars came, along with the puzzle on Friday. On Saturday, (and by then I was so happy that the jars had arrived that I forgot about the rest of the order) FedEX arrives late in the afternoon and the delivery man RAN to my front door- dropped the package and RAN back to the truck. Gee you would have thought it was the most important package in the world.....which I opened up to find, in a big box-just my machine needles!!!!! You never know what comes in the mail...... Well, I think I will save that box, actually have a really good idea for it.
Well, you know, for those who think of us as wierd, we really do craft and have a joy “socializing” here with each other. I have learned a lot from each of you and cherish the relationships we have here. With regards to fabric selection and quilts, well I tried once to take a book out on it- and found it was way more detailed than I wanted. I would never in a million years say that I am good at fabric selection- but I can say two things. Twice I have been buying fabric at Joanns and actually asked the employees opinion on some fabric selection. Both times the employees were able to explain their choices/opinion of my possible fabrics- I learned a ton from that! And then, well some of it is just plain personal choice. My sister made a sewing tote for my mom- and you could see she followed all the rules with regards to fabric selection. Both my mom and I hated her choices- one color just did not seem to work. I am sure my sister thought it was a great combination of fabrics and an expert quilter would probably agree. But both my mom and I agreed that the fabrics were lovely with the exception of one (and we agreed which fabric). So beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....and what one person loves, another might not. 2 years ago, Craftsy had a quilt of the year in 3 color schemes. They left it to a vote which one they would sell as their quilt of they year kit. THe vote went on facebook- I saw the way my friends voted and the results were pretty predictable, each person does indeed have his/her own favorite color palate. So fabric selection- well you usually start with one main fabric that has most of the colors....and work your way back from there. For a baby quilt that Dd was making for DGS, DD and I had about 10 bolts of fabric out at Joanns- playing one against the other- until we finally settled on what worked for us.
So, have I babbled enough for one day?
I did make a grapevine wreath today (Dh cut back the vines, leaving me with them to make a wreath from). I told DGD we would decorate that wreath next time she is here....she loves to craft also.
Just printed out again the directions for the baby afghan, as it is almost time to start the border. The border looks easy.....
Aw, be quiet Ginny!!!! Have a blessed night all G

Hey Phyl! Glad that the sit and sew was so much fun and so productive for you!!! Yes, I agree, Hannah should have a unicorn quilt panel quilt. Wonder if CJ saw anything like that at her quilt show? G

Phyl, it's great to see you again. I'm glad you got the playpen all straighened up. The tissue holders sound interesting. You said something about them on the outside of a purse? Sit and sews must be a lot of fun. I used to enjoy going to Caps for Kids and sitting and crocheting with the others that crocheted and knitted but now I'm such a homebody that I just like to sit at home and work by myself.
Ginny, I'm always amazed at the huge boxes they use sometimes to deliver a tiny, tiny item. And I had the experience too of having something delived as a special Saturday delivery that I really didn't care how soon it got to me. And as far as walmart goes, I do the same with getting things to add up to get free delivery. Sometimes I wait to order until there's more I need but other times I either add more things in that I can use or check Amazon to see if they have the same thing with free delivery.
Speaking of fabric selection, I was looking on some site where they had charities that you could donate too and came across one from a charity that built beds for poor children. Well the quilt that was on the bed they showed was amazing. It was all in oranges with a little yellow. Now that sounds strange but it really was a seriously great quilt. I'll have to try to put the link on here. Not sure if I can because it's in the middle of a lot of other stuff. The only fabric store we have left is Hobby Lobby. I don't know if the people there are good at fabric selection or not. You would think they should be.
So your dd quilts too? Do both of them quilt? I don't imagine your #1 dd has the time anymore with working and two small children soon to be three. Wish my dd would take up something like sewing or whatever to give her something constructive to do now that almost all her children are grown. My ddil sews and their kids knit and crochet, embroider and several other crafts but my dd and her kids were never involved in any crafting.

Good morning! We have a 3 hour delay, which means that my whole day is topsy turvy......got my workout in and now will have to get dinner in the crock pot. I go into work at 9 and will have only 90 minutes off between my am and pm. Light snow here...which is supposed to end late morning.
Ruth, well Hobby lobby sells a lot of calico/quilting fabrics, so I would think that maybe the workers there have a good eye for fabric. Just my hunch.....both times I had good luck with assistance at Joanns, it was 2 different Joanns locations. DD#2 actually took quilting in high school- so she was our first quilter. I always wanted to quilt, so I jumped in shortly after she did. Dd#1 gave me my singer confidence quilter machine 8 years ago.....Its always been something I wanted to do. Dd#2 has made a small rag quilt for DGD. So I guess we all quilt, but Dd#2 and I are the only ones who have done piecework- something other than a rag quilt.
Think I will get in the shower- then get my dinner started. Making pulled pork in the crock pot- which will make for an easy end of the day. G

Well, at 4:45, I got the call of a 3 hour delay. Then they upgraded the storm totals, and we are in the 3 to 6 inch band....they closed school at 8 am. Needless to say I am heartbroken. Sitting down to some crochetting now. Hope to finish the afghan sometime today. Dd also has no school so the grandkids are home. G

That is sure one nice thing about snow....you get a day off. You sure are getting a lot of snow this winter. Is this unusual for you to get so many snow days? I hope the edging on the blanket goes well for you. I really dislike doing edging.I used to always have trouble with the corners curling in even when following the instructions for the extra stitches in the corners. Now I just put in more stitches than they say or do a stitch, a chain, and another stitch in the corner...whichever works on that particular pattern
Well I don't know why the gloves were not going right the other day because I did another yesterday and it went fine although at 3 am I did realize what I was doing wrong in the one part. They were coming out ok but I knew I was missing something. Don't know if you all have had any of those "duh" moments but I had one the other day. I never could get making the chain into a circle to work right. Tried it over and over for several years. Well finally the other day that "d" moment happened and I knew what it was that was going wrong there too.So two things with the gloves solved. There was a third one too but right now I can't remember what it was. I had a horrible time getting to sleep last night so didn't get much then woke earlier than usual even after being awake for hours.
I hope you all have a good day. Ginny, enjoy the bonus day off.CJ, enjoy looking at your fabrics even if you don't do anything else with them today. Meg, I hope you're having a good one too. Phyl, have a good time at Sit and Sew.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope your soup came out well and you were able to get your exercise in. I'm glad you were able to figure out what was going on with the gloves. Hope you get some good sleep tonight - I have restless nights a lot too. For the quilting panels, I usually just had some fabric around the outside to make borders. But Missouri Star Quilt Company recently did a tutorial on using panels in quilts and showed some different options for borders, here's a link if you want to see: www.missouriquiltco.com/land/tutorials/panel-border-quilt/index.html?utm_campaign=qt_t215&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=msqcwww.youtube.com/watch?v=H-vzI0Jp3ak - here's a video showing the Attic Windows quilt with a panel At the quilt show we saw a quilt made with just the panel (no borders) and the quilter had machine quilted around the shapes in the panel to add texture, it looked really good. Phyl - I've made a tissue holder before and they are quick and easy, and nice to use. I hope you enjoyed your Sit and Sew today. A unicorn or carousel horse quilt would be beautiful to make for a little girl. Ginny - I'm glad you had a day off, it's so sad that you have time today to crochet Thanks for your words of support for my staying on plan, I'm trying hard to stay below my goal weight. I bet that pork will be good to have for dinner on a snowy day! This is the shop I bought the lighthouse panel from, she comes to a few shows I go to and she has really beautiful collection of fabrics, many of them with themes. I also bought one of the mugs that is showing on her main page - thought it would be nice to have tea in: www.wilsonscalico.com/home.htmlMeg - Hope you are well and getting in some crafting and listening to a good book. I went out today to do some shopping - went to Costco, Target and JoAnn Fabrics - they are all in the same shopping center so it's convenient. My brother had shown me a powerful flashlight he recently bought at Costco so I picked one up with some gardening gloves - I managed to avoid all the food there. Unfortunately at Target I bought a bunch of Easter candy, but I've already figured out the points for all it and I'll portion it out between now and Easter and enjoy it. At JoAnn Fabrics I bought some applique needles and pins. One of my local quilt shops is having a Beginning Hand Applique class this month and I think I might try to take it. Way back in 2000 I took an applique class and did enjoying it, but I would like to brush up my skills and also learn any new techniques with all the newer products they have now. Take care everyone!

CJ, you actually did great. That's the biggest part of weight loss....the learning to maintain. We can't go without the things we love to eat all our lives so we need to learn how to handle those things and that's exactly what you're doing... getting the points and portioning and sticking to your portions. This makes me think of one dear woman who was on the old WW boards who insisted that she was a carb addict and that you had to then give up all "bad" carbs. Well she's still struggling with the same weight because, of course, she couldnt maintain that.I truly believe that there's really nothing a person should completely give up (except alcohol..I'm really against it but that's just me). We should instead learn to eat all things in moderation.
I'm going to go look at those sites you posted now.
I'm working on yet another pair of gloves since I had the middle of the night correction and theyre going pretty well and fairly fast.
Still can't believe I hadn't seen my mistake in the circle all this time. I had finally given up and just done another row of single or double crochets on the chain THEN joined it and later went back to join the chain row with the dangling thread if you know what I mean. I still think that's a good thing to do when you have a really long chain you need to crochet together to make something in the round.

CJ, gee the panels are so pretty!! Thanks for sharing them with us and the instructions on MSQ. You sure had a productive day! Congrats on getting so much done and for avoiding a lot of difficult to manage foods. What a great game plan for the candy- which I am sure you will enjoy in your controlled portions. Nice job!
Ruth, isn’t if funny how the mind works? SOmetimes we cannot see or understand what is plainly before us. SO glad you figured out the mystery in the circle!!!
Got 1 1/2 rows left before I am onto the border of this afghan. Perhaps I can finish it tomorrow.
Have a great evening all Ginny

Hello everyone, It has been raining here today and I did have to go out but I didn't get too wet. I had a meeting at church as I am on the scholarship committee so today we were deciding who would be eligible. We will meet again when all the applications for scholarships are in.
I had ordered a Pound of Love from Amazon and it arrived today. So now I can work on finishing that/blanket. I need to go to the store to het a skein of yarn to finish my other b/blanket I have been in the mood to knit or crochet and listen to a book. I can't see to read very well at the moment so it's a good time to listen to a book. Friday I have an appointment to get my glasses checked,
Last week I had a series of blood tests and my Dr. called me yesterday and said there was an abnormality in my blood so I don't know what that means but I have an appointment to morrow morning for a consultation with another Dr.
cj. I am glad you enjoyed the quilt show and got some new ideas for quilts you would like to make. I love looking at different color combinations and I go to Pinterest for inspiration for my b/blankets.
Phyl, I am glad you got out to sit & sew and I hope you enjoyed being out with your friends. I am sure the chat was good for you. I am inclined to shut my self off and I always feel better when I get out with other people.
Ginny, I hope the snow is not making it too difficult for you to drive your school bus, I am glad you were able to avoid all the food at Costco today. It can be such a temptation. Now that you have new gardening gloves you can start planning your garden.
Ruth, I have a question for you, I ordered from Amazon and I think I signed up for Prime, do you have Prime and do you pay for it ? I think I have a free trial offer. I really don't order much on line. I ordered a packet of eye glass cords. I seem to be having difficulty keeping track of my glasses. The cords are not easy to find so I checked on line and there are lots of them . A friend at my Knit Wits group was also having trouble finding them. I ordered the cords yesterday and they arrived this morning. I also ordered some sandals and they are due on Thur. I should do more ordering on line.
I wish you all a good evening.
