Hello Crafters Ginny - Congratulations on the new DGD. I'm happy to hear everything went well for you DD and the baby and that they can hopefully get home before the snow. I'm sure the new siblings are excited too! What is the baby's name? Ruth - I'm glad you've been enjoying the Two Ingredient Dough. It is a texture between a biscuit and a roll. I enjoyed one I made with some Country Crock and Jam. Now you're making me want to make some again Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both doing well. The rain is here and we're expecting snow soon and through tonight and tomorrow too. I came downstairs this morning and found out that water is leaking through the part of the roof that had peeled back and that they guy put back last week. Of course there is nothing the roofers can do with the rain. I have buckets, and plastic sheeting, under the two places where it's leaking and I'm hoping I won't have to cut into my ceiling (we have ceiling tiles there), but if I see them start to sag I will. I guess I should have asked for a tarp to be put over this section of the roof, but I didn't know to do that and thought that the roofers would. I guess they thought that peeling that part back would prevent any leaking. I'm wondering if once the snow is on the roof if the weight will cause problems are maybe the leaking will stop until the snow melts. What a mess! Take care everyone!

CJ, nice thing about this two ingredient dough is that it doesnt take long nor does it take much work so its easy to just whip up a batch.I may need to make dh some cinnamon sticky buns with it next.
CJ, roofs are a major pain in the neck. One time I had a new layer of shingles put over the old ones and next time I had a replacement job done. Of course they put in vents and whenever it snows the snow comes thru the vents and ends up melting and damaging the ceilings. Dh went into the attic type space and put down plastic and some plastic bins so that helped some. The roofer did a really bad job around the chimney and water kept leaking badly in around that but now its somehow mysteriously stopped.#1 grandson offered to come and help fix that but he never showed up so now it seems to have taken care of itself...so far anyway. If it ever gets warm again it may rain and we'll find out. I sure hope your roof doesn't cause ceiling problems and yes, you would think the roofers would have known to put a tarp there.

Busy day- babysitting grandkids and visitng DD twice in the hospital. All is well
CJ- would you condiser another contractor? Sounds like your house needs more work and perhaps there will be something that you can do to avoid additional problems. Hope you do not get too much snow. Sounds like it is going to be a difficult day for many
Ruth, I darn well know which pattern you will pick- the one that costs less or is no cost at all!! And you are good enough with a crochet hook that you will be able to fix any issues with a less espensive pattern.
Grandkids are home so I will be able to sleep tonight. We will have to see if school is closed tomorrow or not G

thank you Ginny and I do hope the schools will be closed so that you can stay home and get some rest or, if the weather permits, go and check on your dd and dgb again. Maybe keep the littles occupied for an hour or so so that your dd can get in a nap.
So now that the blanket is done and baby is born, what will be your next crafting project?
Last night I just worked on the spring colors potholder/hotpad and today I've been making fingerless gloves that I started about three or four days ago. They're very easy and fast but I made one too short so I was planning to make another of each length and have two pairs but Im running out of that yarn so it looks like I'll have just one pair and will have to take the other out and use the yarn for something else...another fairly short length to add to leftovers bin.I told #2 dgd that if she wanted the colors that are in the picture of the octopus hat she'd have to get me the yarn so she said she'll take any color. I mentioned ocean colors, blues and greenish blues, and white for tentacle bumps and she was ecstatic. I dont know if they'll be coming down for Easter or not but I may try to make it before then in case they do. I want to go to Walmart though and get some Red heart super saver (yes I know...more yarn) in a nice variegated blue. The fg's Im making are a color that is variegated and rhss and it looked ugly on the skein but is REALLY pretty now that I've used it so Im thinking if they have a nice bright blue like that it will be perfect for the octopus. Well not that octupii are blue but its just a nice color. The one I'm working with is kind of "neony" and that is definitely her style but mine isnt blue it's a red, yellow orange variegation.I hope they have it but if not then I'll improvise.
I've been starting and stopping on the glove making so that's why I'm not finished with them yet.So back to that now.

Getting ready to head to bed, yes I am so very tired.
Ruth, I am sure you will figure out something for those fg that dgd#2 wants, hope you are able to find the right variegated yarn.
I will start tinkering with a fg pattern myself-[ but I am too tired to begin. Just got my gauge and hook size figured out. Tomorrow I will begin crochetting.
THinking Dd and the baby will be released in the am and if its snowing I will just let them get home and get used to the latest addition to the family. G

Im trying to decide if I want to run to Walmart today or wait till tomorrow. I'll probably wait. I have plenty I can do with what I already have. I did get the one Easter hotpad done and will make one more at least for dd's table. It's such a pretty color when made into something much like, in that respect, the yarn I mentioned that I did the fingerless gloves in.
I hope that you are all doing ok and didn't get too much snow...well except for Ginny who can maybe get days off if it snows.Extra days off are always good.
Haven't heard anymore from my friend's dd. About three years ago the doctors told her that her mother wouldn't survive and she was put on comfort care. She shocked everyone by getting well and eventually up and walking. I doubt that's going to happen this time but you just never know. Its all in the hands of God.

Hello Crafters
Ruth - if you do try those Sticky Buns, let us know how they turn out. I'd like to try a cinnamon roll with this dough. I'd also be interested to hear how the calzones tasted after you froze or refrigerated them? The colors for the octopus sound pretty. Hope you can get your yarn at Walmart.
Ginny - I'm glad to hear your DD and baby are doing well, I'm sure you'll be looking forward to her getting home and going over to see her. Nice that you have started a new project too. Hope you didn't get too much snow.
So far my ceiling has stayed up. The rain stopped mid-afternoon yesterday and the leaking not long after that. I was able to get things in the room out of the way, and had plastic and buckets on the floor. Unfortunately we've had snow here since early this morning and it's still snowing, a wet snow! So I don't have any leaking yet, but I don't know what will happen when it starts to melt over the next few days!
I'm just waiting until it stops snowing, or before dark, so I can go out and shovel my steps and walk and around my cars. I won't worry about the driveway since I think that will melt in the next few days since we've had such mild weather recently.
I made some Pumpkin Custard today, I just wanted to bake something and remembered I'd bought some extra canned pumpkin last year around the holidays. I get three large custard cups from the recipe and I ate the first one while it was still warm - it was good. I've refrigerated the other two and I'll eat them the next few days.
Thanks for your thoughts about my roof and your concern - I appreciate it. I just have to stick this out but I may try to see about getting a tarp up on this part of the roof soon, or else I need to get this section of my roof replaced first. I'll talk to the roofing company about that.
Take care everyone!

CJ, great to see you. I'm glad your roof stayed intact and will be praying for the snow not to add to the problem with leaking. Sure is a worry to have those things happen. I don't know about the taste of the calzones after storing and reheating. Dh says they were good but then he thinks most things are good or else he just doesn't want to hurt my feelings by saying it's not good. I did tell him that if something isn't like he wants it he should tell me so that I don't keep making those things or make them in the same way. Im thinking of making those cinnamon buns today because dh wants me to make my potato/cabbage casserole which is just really scalloped potatoes with cabbage in it. So while the oven is on might as well make something else too. I'll let you know how they turn out. I'm going to make a filling with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and maybe a little honey and some pecans chopped up. I'll put some inside and some on the bottom on the pan so the topping will end up on top when buns are turned out of the pan and i hope it will be "ooey, gooey" enough.
Ginny, I hope you're getting some well deserved rest on your unexpected day off.
I've kind of been at loose ends so far and haven't started anything yet. I think I know which yarn I'm going to use for dgd's hat but Im hoping to go to walmart tomorrow so I'll see what they have before I start. If they don't have what I want I'll use what I dug out today from my stash. I still am undecided about which tree skirt Im going to make. Do I splurge and pay for the pattern that ddil says my son likes best or the other free pattern that she said looks about the same to her. she said she would measure Bibles for me but hasn't yet sent those measurements so can't start on those yet.
What are all of you doing today

Good afternoon!
CJ- I know you were watching Victoria also on TV- but I do not see any new episodes on my DVR (got it set for auto record). Are there still any more episodes being shown or is this season over with. Well, I think pumpkin custard sounds wonderful for a snowy day like today. Hope that you do not get too much snow and that the roof holds up well. My mom’s house used to have one section of roof (where it joined the fireplace chimney) that would need some attention every 5 years or so, I sure would be a nice thing if the snow melted with no damage- and then you could just get repairs done if needed at your leisure. Be careful shovelling the really wet snow.
Ruth, of course let us know if you get any news about Joanie. Did you decide to get to Walmart or decide to go another day? Your Easter hotpad sounds really pretty, nice and spring like!! I am sure it will be appreciated and make a nice accent for the table.
Well, at 5:30 they decided to close school. Honestly,, the storm must have stayed to the east and south, our roads are almost clear and its only lightly snowing. I sure could have and would have gladly driven in this. But getting an extra 3hours of sleep this am was a blessing, it made up for the 3 hours of sleep I did not get when watching the grandkids. Dd and DGD were released late this am. (Got to see them while they were still in the hospital). I am very sure that Dd is happy to be home and her kids are even more happy. They have a lot of adjusting to do....3 kids is most definately more than 2 kids plus one.
Ok- so here is my question. The fingerless glove pattern I have calls for a chunky weight (5)yarn. How much of a bear will it be to double up with a #3 weight yarn? I have some wool ease (not chunky ) that I would like to use- plenty of it too....just hoping I can use it double strand without too much difficulty.
See ya later G

Ruth, can you see both patterns (as in a picture of each)?. What about all the free sites- do they have anything pretty much the same? You are good enough with your skills to modify a pattern. Think I would check out those options first, as you have time.(its a Christmas tree skirt, right?). Also, Herrschenerrs has some tree skirt kits- which would probably include yarn. Also check out craftsy. Let us know how those cinnamon rolls turn out.
This am was mostly some banking and visitng Dd and DGD#2. We brought the DGS and DGD#1 back here for an hour while waiting for Dd to be discharged. They were good in the hospital but they are little an lost patience. Most hospital discharges seem to take forever anyway.
Am trying to clean up the house a bit- putting things back to where they belong. Now that Dd is home, our babysitting will go down....I wanted to crochet today but have been productive anyway.
Gotta go make dinner G

Definintely having two older children then a newborn does add tremendously to things needing to be done and taken care of. Now the oldest is old enough she doesnt take naps so your dd won't be able to nap while the older chidren nap for just one example.
It doesnt sound as though school will be close tomorrow then does it? Im glad the weather cooperated so that your dd and new dgb could get out of the hospital and home safely. And yes I dont know why it takes so long to discharge a patient. Last time I was in the hospital I waited forever for the nurse to get in. I was about to just leave without waiting for the discharge instructions that I didn't need anyway.
Ginny, I did have two patterns in mind and I do like the paid one best so guess I'll splurge and get it. At least I'll be helping the pattern designer financially and in her knowledge that her pattern was liked and admired enough that someone bought it.
I've actually never crocheted anything using two strands of yarn so I dont know how it would work but probably would work fine. What I'd probably personally do is just use the wool ease as it is and add stitches to make it larger but doing that kinda depends on the pattern too. The fg I was making yesterday would be really simple to adjust size but some are just not conducive to changing sizes easily due to their actual stitch pattern. If your pattern is not one that's easily adjusted, or you just want a thicker gloves, I'd make a swatch first using the two strands and see how that works for you. I usually try to avoid patterns that use chunky yarn because I dont have any chunky and don't want to have to have two skeins to work with. I know you can use the ending of the yarn as well as the outside but then the yarn gets seriously tangled a lot and it's a real pain in the neck. So if you have only one skein of the yarn you want to use I would definitely recommend pulling half out and making it into a separate ball.
And despite what very kind Ginny says, I'm certainly no expert as evidenced by the fact that I don't do what Ginny said she was doing last night...checking her gauge. I never check guage. I don't make things that actually need to have an exact guage so I never bother doing it. and as for hooks I usually use just whatever one the pattern calls for. I don't think I crochet either tightly or loose so all my things really should turn out the size the pattern indicates if I use the suggested yarn and hook. Sometimes it doesn't work like the slipper socks the other day but it was a small project so I just pulled the one back out and did it over adjusting as I needed to to fit my own foot.

And another thing...fingerless gloves are very accomodating. so most will fit any size hand but again some people have a preference in how far up the arm they want them or how far up the fingers but if you're making them for yourself you can, of course try them on and adjust as needed.

.WIll check and see what pattern I have- think its the other pattern you suggested, Ruth. I printed it out a few weeks ago so I would not lose it. I texted my DSIL who is a crochetting wizard- she said that working with 2 strands of yarn is fine. I need to do that- need a larger hook to get the gauge, but then the yarn is too thin. If I use double strand, it should be fine. Of course by the time I finish these things it will be August and gloves are the last thing I will want then!

Oh well you'll have them for next winter. I'm glad to hear that your sil said working with two strands will work ok. I'm going to have to do that now too. I've just aways avoided using two because I hate the thoughts of them getting tangled. I have enough trouble with that already.
