I think I remember one that asked for chunky yarn but not sure what it is. I'm pretty sure it's not the Rustic Rib. If so well I've made about three with that pattern and no chunky yarn so Im pretty sure that's not the pattern you're speaking of. Maybe the andy one...but no that one doesn't call for chunky either. Well I'll find out when you get a chance to look at the pattern. I have a ton of wool ease too. A lot of it was given to me by a friend and I told her I would use it for donating so that's what I'll do and fingerless gloves are a good thing for that because everyone uses them now. They keep the whole hand warm even though the fingers aren't covered and you can still do what you need to do and dont have to take gloves off to do it.

Its working out ok Ruth, I am using a large hook (size L) and the pattern is easy. If I had more time tonight I might be able to finish one glove.. Might want to make the cuff a little bigger, but the pattern is easy and that seems easy to do. Think this is the pattern you suggested Ruth, after you tried that pattern I found (which was difficult).
Hope CJ is ok and has power. On the news they have said that her area got hit hard with snow and wind

My friend messaged me amost an hour ago that her mom passed away peacefully earlier in the evening. We had a nice chat in messenger. Since it was midnight there I'm guessing she couldn't sleep and wanted someone to chat with and knowing that I'm a night owl thought I was probably still up and of course I was and am because it's not even 11 yet.

Good morning Ruth, My sincere condolences on Joanies passing. It was a blessing that Nadine was able to make it to spend her mom’s final hours with her. Sounds as though Joanie was a special woman, someone with a big heart. Wish I could sit with you over a cup ot tea and give you a hug.....Hope you are able to get some sleep after this upsetting news. G

Just got an email from Hobby lobby- 30% off all yarn. Not that any of us needs more yarn, but a sale is always a good thing.

Hello everyone, Sorry I have been missing. I had a test on Tuesday as usual my stomach had a few leaks which they cauterized so all is well I hope. I slept through the whole procedure and I was really sleepy yesterday and didn't get a lot done. I have been reading a lot but I finished my book last night and now I need to listen to a few audio books to get caught up with my b/blankets both are passed the half way point. I have read all your posts but just didn't feel like getting on the computer.
Ginny, congratulations on the birth of your new little granddaughter. I hope mother and baby are doing well. The baby was a very good weight and healthy and that is what really counts. Good for you getting the b/blanket finished for her arrival. I hope the snow has cleared so that you can get out and about. You mentioned that hobby Lobby had a 30% discount well that's how I got my self in trouble so now I ignore the sales there will always be another sale to tempt me. Actually I have bought yarn in the past month because I needed the yarn for what I was working on. I need to give away some more of my yarn because I want to try some of the new yarns.
Ruth, I am sorry your dear friend passed away. It is sad to loose someone that we have been close to for years. So many of my friends have passed away and I don't have any friends left that I can go to lunch with and I miss that. The group of ladies that I lunched with were all older than me. They used to tease me about being the baby of the group. I do knit with 2 strands of yarn but have never tried crocheting
cj, You are the baker of our group. That is something I need to stay from because I eat too much of what I bake. I am sorry you are still having a problem with your roof and I hope you can get it fixed soon. I imagine that the roofers are busy in your area with all the damage between wind and snow. Take care and stay warm and dry.
Hi Phyl, Hope all is well with you. It is a good time of year to curl up with a good book and read.
Devin gets out of school early today and he will be out of school all next week. So I had better get ready to go and pick him up.
Have a good evening.

Thank you all for your messages of condolence. yes Joanie was a wonderful person while we were in nursing school and for a few years afterward, at which time I lost track of her. Turned out she was having some issues in her life. We met again in the late 80 but just for a couple days then she disappeared again. Her daughter is so happy to have had these last 4 1/2 years when, as she said, she was able to get to know the Joanie that I knew since those issues were being taken care of.
I mentioned Walmart to dh this morning and he did want to go with me. I was able to find a suitable yarn for the octopus hat. It wasn't the one I really would have liked to have.. I saw that one on their online site...but I did find one that is nice and will work well. Then after hunting down the elusive bargains we ended up going to two grocery stores so our shopping is now done and we won't have to go to any stores all next week either.
Got a letter from my 16 year old grandaughter. She's going with her church youth group on a mission trip to South Africa. My son is going to as one of the people supervising. Her oldest brother who is older than she is went on two mission trips but only to Colorado and to Montreal. I know he's wishing he could go on this one. How often in life does a person get to go to South Africa. The trip will be later this year. Can't remember exactly when now. I'd have to look at the letter.
Meg, I'm glad they found the problem and that it was taken care of with cautery. I hope everything stays sealed up like it should be from now on. So is Devin on spring break? I'm not sure when the spring break is here. I used to love when the kids had Easter vacation. I do remember that you make your knitted baby blankets with two strands of yarn.I can picture them and I know that using two strands makes for a really nice blanket.
It got up to nearly 70 today and maybe did hit 70. It was beautiful. dh said it's too hot already. He doesn't like heat.

Oh and Ginny, I mentioned that yarn sale to dh. He asked if I needed to go to HL. They do have some beautiful yarns but as Meg said was true in her case, I do have enough yarn.. I did buy that at Walmart today too and (confessing here) I ordered some online yesterday because Craftsy had the Mandala for $4 but today it was marked down to $4 at Walmart too.And guess what Ginny, I ordered that kit. so of course I'm now wishing I hadn't bought the pattern because you, of course, get one with the kit. It was on sale though and I couldn't resist. I'm not strong like Meg.
CJ, I did make the cinnamon buns and tried to make then like sticky buns but they didn't turn out well at all. If I use that dought to make cinnamon rolls again I'll just make then like regular cinnamon buns and put icing on them instead of the filling and topping that recipe I saw called for. I think there was something wrong with the recipe anyway..maybe a typo because the filling didn't turn out anything like I expected it to.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's passing. How nice that her daughter was able to be with here before her death. Thanks for the info on the rolls, I think you are right that a regular cinnamon bun would work better. I'm glad you were able to get to Walmart and get your yarn. Ginny - Hope the new baby and family are doing well. I'm glad you didn't have to drive in the bad weather. Hope your gloves are coming along. Meg - I'm glad your procedure went well and that you've been enjoying some books. We did end up getting about 6 inches of wet snow. I went out in the afternoon yesterday and shoveled the steps, walk and around the cars. I didn't have to do any more shoveling today, but I did clear off the cars since I was concerned all the snow wouldn't melt. It was really thick and went. And now that the snow on the roof is melting, yes I have water leaking in the two spots again. I know there is nothing I can do right now since they can't put a tarp up over the snow, so I'm just catching the water and keeping an eye on the ceiling tiles. If I see them start to sag, I'll have to cut a hole in them. I'm going to call the roofing company tomorrow and tell them that it's an emergency for me to get a tarp over that part of the roof early next week. If they can't help me then I'll have to try another company or person. It's just frustrating to me that they thought just peeling that part of the roof back would solve any leaks. Take care everyone!

In case anyone would like the Pumpkin Custard recipe, here it is:
Pumpkin Pudding Bake - this recipe is from an old cookbook from the 60s or 70s that has low fat recipes
Ingredients:
2 beaten eggs 1 cup canned pumpkin 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice 1 - 13 ounce can (1 2/3 cup) evaporated skimmed milk - NOTE: the cans for this milk are only 12 ounces now and I use those and don't have any problems
Directions:
In a bowl beat together the eggs, pumpkin, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir in evaporated skimmed milk.
Place six 6-ounce custard cups in a 13x9x2 baking pan on oven rack. Pour pumpkin mixture into cups. Pour boiling water into pan around cups to a depth of 1 inch.
Bake in a 325 degree oven 50 minutes. Serve warm or cool.
NOTES: I use more of the spice and add some cinnamon too, since I really like my pumpkin pie more spicy. I've also used larger custard cups and just made 3 of the puddings, but you have to bake them longer.
Hope if you try this recipe, you'll like it.

CJ, I'm sorry to hear that the snow melt is leaking thru your roof and you are again having leaking problems. Yes that's about all you can do is catch the water. I remember when our roof in Ark was peeled back by the wind and dh had to cut a hole in the ceiling. It was a lot of water. But at least in our case that was a low house so dh was able to get up there with a bucket of tar and he and I pulled the roll roofing back in place after putting down tar and sealing it all. I hope you can get the roofers out there or find another that will be accomodating. You really need something done...not excuses.

Good evening!
Meg, glad you stopped in to say hello. Glad that they were able to cauterize the leaks in your stomach- and wow a good thing you were anethestized for that. For me it takes a few days for me to return to feeling normal after anethesia- so its no surprise that you took a day off. Glad you are feeling more like yourself! Congrats on getting so much done on the baby blankets and some good reading time in. Sounds like Devin will be on spring break next week! (Its spring break here next week too). I know what a great kid he is- but hope that he has some things that keep him busy so that you can do what you want to do also. I figured I would just tell everyone about the yarn sale at HL. Every so often a sale hits at a perfect time- when you need to pick up one more skein to finish a project. Like you, I do not need any more yarn!
Ruth- well congrats that your shopping is all done and that you found some yarn that will work for the octopus. You have me laughing....so you bought the kit anyway! Well, it was on sale, and now you have everything you need. I am with your Dh, 70 is starting to get hot to me- I much prefer cooler weather. Your DGD’s trip to South Africa sounds wonderful- will start now praying that the trip is a safe one as well as one that the Lord will use in a mighty way.
CJ- after all the horror stories I have heard, I am so very happy to hear that you have power!! Indeed, its a shame that your roof is still an issue- keep trying until you find a contractor who will work with you. Thanks for that pumpkin custard recipe- it sounds so good, a real comfort food.
We got about 3 inches of snow last night, and so school opened on a 2 hour delay today. So its been a busy day.....we returned DSIL’s car to him (it ended up here the night Dd went in to have DGD because DD drove herself). Got to see the baby again...she is so very sweet. I am almost done with one fg. Now I am going to sound like Ruth, I am going to modify the pattern- and go back to a single strand of yarn with a much smaller hook. think I already have it figured out how to modify the instructions to accomodate the smaller hook size and I will change the stitch from a dc to a sc.. I just think it will look better....all in all I like the pattern and it does go quickly.
Have a great night G

Well now dh wants us to go back to Walmart tomorrow because he's decided that he needs to buy more tents because they're marked down and a great price. He looked them up online to see what they were being sold for in other places. We bought one for dgs who will be 13 this summer and who knows why he wants more. He bought one for himself too. They're certainly too large and heavy to ship to other grands. But well he could do worse things and he doesn't so what's the harm. Can't think of anything else I want to get while there.

Gee, Ruth- if you wanted to buy those tents for other grandkids, can you pay for Walmart to ship to their home?
