Good morning all. I was surprised to wake up to find that we had a lot of snow fall during the night. I don't think it was forecasted for today. I don't know what the temperature is but it must be pretty cold because the snow isn't melting
Ginny, your dd's friend does sound as though she is her own worst enemy. Obesity is a very high risk factor for breast cancer and other cancers. I know it seems like a monumental task to lose all that weight but she should have worked on that seriously. And often the cancers are not found at an early stage because they're hard to find in all the fatty tissue. I thought you were saying that it's a recurrence of the breast cancer but now it sounds as though it may be somewhere else. Does not sound good to me but she's on my prayer list and I've prayed for her this morning.God can do amazing things and miraculous things. Being so obese, did she have problems in pregnancy. I'm sure the doctor she chose was not happy to have a patient that posed a great risk for complications. And it does sound like she has the prefect walking place...the half mile to her parents home would be a perfect start.
I didn't get much done on all those tentacles yesterday. As I mentioned it was a day dh thought I needed a lot of his company or maybe he needed mine. At any rate couldn't really concentrate on making them...I'd never done popcorn stitch before...or on my email. Finally started but when at Walmart the other day I bought Red heart super saver in a variegated with beautiful blues. So I bought another skein of RHSS in another color for the inside of the tentacles. Well I could see that the variegated was very thin. Well then when I started the inside layer of the tentacles with the solid color yarn I found that that yarn was nice and thick and fuzzy. So after I have about 20 rows done (luckily they're very short rows...only 7 stitches) I found that this inside layer was of course coming out much larger than the other layer so I had to pull that one out and start over with a smaller hook.
I know that different brand yarns even though classified as #4 ww yarn, are different thicknesses but you would think that when you buy the same brand and same kind within that brand, that thye would be the same thickness so that your patterns would come out right. I know we've discussed this before but it's irritating. It also looks as though the thinner yarn was made by a while different process. Even the texture of the yarn isn't the same.
Well have a great day all. I hope that you enjoy your outing with your friend, Ginny and I hope that you have a great day also CJ and Meg. And Phyl, if you stop in I hope that you do also.

Hello and good afternoon,
Ruth, I love the octopus hat but I would never be able to make it. I don't crochet well enough tp attempt that. Are you going to make it? I can't believe that you are still having snow. It has been warm and sunny here and the temp is in the high 70s. Soon it will be time to get our summer clothes out. I look forward to May when I get my white summer pants out. Oh I see that you have started your octopus hat. I would love to see it when it is finished.
Ginny, I hope you are enjoying your week off and getting lots of rest and visits to see your new grand daughter
I did some knitting last night but I had to get up really early this a.m. as my eye apt. was at 8.50a.m. and I left home early because the parking is difficult sometimes. But I got a handicapped space right by the door. Now I am sleepy and I will probably take a nap. I will get my new lens in about a week.
cj, you said you liked cook books, I have quite a few but I hardly ever use them. I have my mothers favorite cook book with war time recipes. she had written some of her favorite recipes in the back.
I am off to take a nap before I fall asleep sitting here.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm so sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis for the friend of your DD's. I will keep them in my prayers. Hope you enjoyed time with your friend and your visit to the Christmas Tree Shops - there is always something there to buy! Meg - I hope you can get a new computer, I know I'd have to go out immediately and get one if something happened to mine. It's crazy how much we need them now. I'm glad to hear you had a nice dinner with friends. How nice to have some of your mother's cook books, with some written recipes too Ruth - Hope you don't have the snow around too long. I also hope the crocheting is going better today. I already received the information from the insurance company and they allowed $2900 for the roof damages. However, then they substracted the depreciation on the roof which was $2000. That put me at $900 from them, but I have a $500 deductible so the final amount awarded is $400!! I can try to claim some of the deductible back later after the roof is actually repaired and I have the final costs. I figured I wouldn't get much, but was hoping for more than. The guy did come at 6:00 P.M. last night and put two tarps on the roof where the leaking was. I sure hope that will work, and I'll be finding out because it's raining tonight and we're supposed to get some rain on Thursday and Friday. Take care everyone!

Meg, I don't know if that's really true that you are not that good at crocheting but I sure know you are WAY better than me on knitting. Sorry you had to get up so early. I learned a few years back, finally, to tell them when I wanted the appointment. Eye surgeon here is another story. Since we have only one there's a long waiting list and you have to take whatever time you can get but luckily he's usually always doing surgery in the morning so you don't get stuck for an early morning appointment for anything else.
Wow, CJ, I didn't realize they took off depreciation from the money they give you for repairs. I know they didn't the two times I had work done on the roof. I did however have a $750 deductible which is required here. That sure doesn't give you a lot left to do the actual replacement... $400?? I don't know about my current insurance company because I switched but when I had the roof done I had Allstate.
I haven't got back to my crocheting yet as I was cooking. Just some mixture that dh said sounded good to him with ground beef, carrots, onions, celery, lots of seasonings, pea, and then gravy. All will be on mashed potatoes. Then with the rest of the ground beef in the package I made patties and he just had a couple of those as cheeseburgers. I'll have my dinner later...something entirely different than what he had.
I'm thinking of trying the 2 ingredient dough made into fake hot cross buns...may have mentioned that the other day but still didn't get to them. I want to try it with my other brand of gluten free flour and see if that works better than the Pillsbury. So far Pillsbury hasn't worked right for anything I've tried.
Ginny, I hope you had a good time out with your friend and that you found something nice to buy for yourself.

Good evening!
CJ- sometimes I think we all wonder why we have insurance. Well, $400 is better than nothing, but wow- its a disappointing number. Did they take into account damage inside your home? Hope that something can be worked out so that your out of pocket expenses are minimal.. I will be hoping and praying that those tarps work and protect you from further damage. Homeownership can be so very stressful.
MEg, glad you were able to check in. Your day started early enough and I do not blame you for being tired. Congrats on getting new glasses ordered (or lenses). Lord willing they will have you seeing really really well.
RUth- so sorry about the yarn, but I have had the same thing. I made a mini granny square afghan for DGS- all supersaver yarn- and one of the colors was really different than the others. SO very frustrating. You do indeed pick up everything- we are not sure ( or at least I am not sure) if dd’s friends cancer is in the breast but I suspect it is not. They had to do a needle biopsy sort of thing intoi the chest cavity- so that tells me its no longer in breast tissue and has spread. I could be wrong....no matter what I am praying for her. Her PET scan is next Wednesday;
Had a hoot at CTS- and managed to restrain myself a bit. I did get some stuff for the grandkids for Easter.
Gonna go put my feet up and crochet G

Ginny sounds like it might have been a thoracentesis...to drain and get some of the fluid. That does sound as though the cancer is in the chest, lung probably but we'll have to wait till the PET scan to find out for sure and the results of testing that fluid. I sure hope they find it's nothing. I'll be praying also
I forgot that CTS probably sold EAster items also. Of course they would. It's the holiday that's near

Good morning! Got a nice walk in- and am hoping to sit down to finish the first fg this am.
Ruth, not sure what the procedure was- I do know that they have found cancer (same as she was treated for breast cancer with therapy ending only 8 months ago). PET scan will tell the rest of the story. G

Hello Crafters It's a beautiful day here, sunny and in the 70s! We're supposed to get some rain tonight and tomorrow though. Sounds like everyone is getting ready for Easter. It's a fun holiday for children with all the activities and candy. Ruth - I've been thinking about different things to try with that dough. I was thinking about adding cinnamon and maybe a bit of sugar to it and using it as a cobbler topping. Or keeping it plan and using it for a topping of Chicken Pot Pie. I really want to make a pizza again, but haven't been able to fit that into my food plan recently. Ginny - I'm glad you found some things for the DGKs at the CTS, they sure do have a lot of choices and some unique things you don't see anywhere else. I enjoy going by there each season when they change things out. Take care everyone!

CJ, I would think that it would make a good cobbler topping. You could even add more yogurt than called for to have it a little looser and more like cobbler topping. For the chicken pot pie you could also add things to the dough like a little poultry seasoning or sage and thyme. That would be tasty.
I've gained a couple pounds so have to be a little stricter for a couple days. I really do intend to stay at my present weight (well minus the two extra) forever now
Ginny, I really am sorry for that girl. I just don't even know what to say. She's so young to have something like that although we see all the time on the St Jude's ,well guess you would call them commercials too, that even infants end up with cancer. I hope her's can be successfully treated.
We got a lot of snow again in the night. Again it's melting.
I was over estimating my dedication to this octopus hat the other day. I still have 7 of the inside of the tentacles pieces to go, along with two eyes and two eyelids...and the sewing together.Today I've been going thru canned goods. I don't mind eating the ones that are past the sell by date if it's not a really long time but some things just don't last like other things. And I found hidden some pancake syrup. We don't even eat pancakes so they're ready to be thrown out. They expired quite awhile ago. I'm sure they're still good but why clutter my house with them when we don't use them. Food bank with take things that have expired in the last two years but these, having been hidden behind some other things are older than that. Now I'm going to go thru my closet again and get rid of some more things that I know I'll never wear. There are people that can use this stuff
See you later. Ginny did you ever find out what those fgs are called?

Good evening!
CJ- I think that the 2 ingredient dough would be awesome as a top crust for a chicken pot pie (one of my favorite meals!!!) Agree with Ruth, by adding some poultry seasoning to the dough it would make it even more appropriate.Hope you enjoyed that day of 70 degree weather! Also hope that those 2 tarps do the trick and keep all moisture out!!
Ruth, think if you google creations by Courtney W, chunky fingerless gloves you come up with the right pattern. Mind you, it shows a picture of the gloves made with a chunky yarn and double crochets, but mine are a single crochet and 3 weight yarn. You were the one who gave me the pattern....or suggested it. Bet if we went back inot posts from several weeks ago we would find it there. But I am pretty sure what I gave you is it. I finished glove #1 today and am starting onto glove #2. Now that I sort of know what I am doing- and I did make notes on the instructions with my modifications- this glove ought to go more quickly. I too have been going through what I have here and am trying to use staples I have on hand. Take a breather on the octopus- you will get your momentum back. Perhaps working on a smaller and easier project to break things up might help. So glad your snow is melting....its the one nice thing about snow this time of year. It does not last long.
Got some errands done....mailed a package, donated some kids books to the library (they sell them for super cheap) and tried to take a lovely dress/gown to the consignment shop for sale. Its brand new, still with tags....I bought it when Dd #1 was getting married and ended up wearing another dress. Its very pretty- but they no longer sell those in the consignment shop. I called another one- sent them a pic of it, and they might take it - will tell me tomorrow. I do have a wedding to attend this summer but this dress is far too dressy for that- the groom is not even wearing a tuxedo or a suit.. My dress would be way over dressed. I would just love to get something for it- would rather not donate a brand new dress to charity.
Hard to believe that tomorrow is Friday and that this week off is almost over. How sad.
Have a blessed evening Ginny

Ginny, I was thinking right before I posted my last message that this week is nearly over already. I think when I worked that I wasted the last few days of every vacation feeling bad that I had to go back to work soon.
Sadly many of the clothes I bagged up for donating also had tags still on them. I've thought of taking them to a consignment shop but just don't want to go to the trouble. Still I bet your gown/dress cost way more than the clothes I have with tags because most of them were marked down when I bought them so I do hope you'll be able to sell it and recoup some of your money at least. From now on I'm going to stick with a limited wardrobe instead of thinking I have to have a fully packed closet...or two.Now if only I could get dh to get rid of some of his

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks for the thoughts on the 2 Ingredient Dough. I will try them sometime. I wanted to make some today, but really couldn't fit it into my food plan for the day. I'm trying very hard to stay on track since my one year anniversary at goal weight is Sunday. I'm already planning some special food on that day, so I'm trying to stay good until then. Last year when I went through my clothes I found several that still had tags on them too. I donated all of those since I knew I'd never wear them. Hope you are all enjoying some crafting and have things ready for Easter. Is anyone cooking/baking anything special? Take care everyone!

HI CJ, good to see you. You do so well on having a food plan and sticking to it. And it's wonderful that you are now having a one year anniversary of being at goal. and it's a great idea to celebrate with some special food that you've saved up for. People say you shouldn't celebrate with food but I dont agree. I think it's important to give special foods a place in our lives so that we can still enjoy eating and yet maintain our goal weight.
Dh said something yesterday about me getting rid of clothing. Couldn't really hear what he said but I'm sure he would like to see me hanging onto all of this. Why do that though when its all way too big. And yes maybe I shouldn't have bought so much but I did and I have it now and need to give it to someone that can actually use it.
I received the kit for the Christmas tree skirt (and the ohter yarn i bought so that I could get free shipping) so whenever I'm done with the projects that need to be done before that I'll start on the skirt.Again the mailman brought it right to my door. He's an awesome guy. He's not required to do that at all. and I got the crochet hooks i ordered to that I would have some spare H's and I's.and of course I had found those I mentioned the other day in the couch, so now I have a lot of those...well until they slip into someplace else like the couch cushions or the bed mattress. Little crochet hooks came in a large box just like Ginny's needles ...well the hooks at least are bigger than the needles but even so.
Ok got dh's "breakfast" of two cheeseburgers made and he ate them. Now to get back to my tentacles. Plan for "finish it Friday" went by the wayside since what I need to finish is these tentacles.
I hope that Meg and Ginny are both having a good day also.
Nice and warm here today...almost 60 but I heard the "s" word for tomorrow. I bet it will just be during the night again though.

Happy Saturday!!
CJ- wow I am so very happy for you- and remember when you first celebrated being at your goal weight!! Go ahead and celebrate with something special- I am sure you will make sure it works within program. Being at goal for a year is really special- and I think the part of program that many fail at. Its really something to be proud of.
Ruth, gee that is one great mailman. Bet that was kind of like Christmas in July (March!) getting that box of goodies..... I love opening up new craft things. Its just so darned neat to see the craft items you selected arrive right at your door. I am confident that the tree skirt will be so lovely- a cherished family heirloom- and you have plenty of time to work on it. Look at it this way- getting that box in the mail was a nice diversion from what must feel like a forever project, making all those tentacles.
Very busy day for us, had to go to our financial planner and then helped friends move their furniture back in after a major home rennovation. I did almost finish the second fg. Made some mistakes on it, and it the friend at work is bothered by that I will keep them for myself. All in all, and considering its my first pair, I think they came out well

Ginny, it does indeed sound as though you had a busy day. Your friends are very fortunate to have you.As for the fingerless gloves, if your coworker is not a crocheter she probably will not even notice any mistakes you may have made.I did look up the pattern that you mentioned yesterday and looked back on posts and neither that pattern nor the site look familiar. I've looked at so many though that I remember only the ones that were outstanding in being really nice or really bad looking.I know I told you about a pair called Andy gloves. Theyre really nice and also easy to make and are made just from worsted weight yarn not bulky. Among the things I got today was bulky weight yarn. And yes I love getting packages even if it is stuff I've ordered myself.Only thing I not really love about the kit is that its red and ecru not white but it will still be nice. They didnt have an option for red and white even though the picture looked like white not ecru. Sure was a bargain though. There's 12 skeins of yarn it it. You sure couldn't get all that for just $26 buying it elsewhere. If I had known it had that many skeings of yarn I maybe would have ordered at least one more kit.And I do have a lot of matching whites that I could use instead of the ecru.
Whole other story but it's sure weird how skeins of white yarn can be so different as far as the "shade" of white goes. Who knew white had shades
