Ha ha ha- Ruth I must have 5 different βwhiteβ skeins- and it kills me that I have that many. Guess I have to figure out what to do with them- simple projects that will require only a skein or just less than that. You really did get a bargain on that kit- 12 skeins of yarn for $26. Congrats....i had looked at a picture of the kit too and it sure looked like a white white to me! So I just checked out the Andy gloves (thank you for the reminder of the name) and I do remember seeing that pattern....and that is not the pattern I am using. Now the big mystery is how the dickens did I find this pattern- which I actually like. I sound like a total space cadet now- but I bet I have you laughing.
Totally agree, its just so much fun getting packages in the mail- especially if it is unexpected. Its such a nice thing to know that someone was thinking about you and cared enough to send something. When my sister in law was recuperating from a serious illness, I chose to hand write letters to her. I knew that she did not have the energy to sit up at the computer, and that a written note would allow her to read when she had the strength - and it was easier for her to manage. Little surprises in the mail are, indeed nice.
I guess a box with 12 skeins of yarn in it must have been quite a size, but thankfully not too heavy.
Guess I have babbled enough for today. Ginny

Are all your whites the same or are they all a little different too? I have a whole bunch of skeins of white but I most aren't the same when you put them side by side but I do have a box that I got from Red Heart that had half white and half red so if I wanted to use pure white on the CT skirt I could use those. Then of course I have the antique white that you used on your baby blanket and some other off whites but the ones I meant are all supposed to be true whites and are still just a little different so you can't use them together. Luckily RHSS whites are all the same. Not sure what yarn this is in the kit. I'll have to check Nope the 12 yarns weren't the only yarn in the box. There were, I think, maybe 8 of the bulky yarn, and probably 12 lion Brand Mandala also so it was a large box. The mailman even said "well this is a big box but it's not too heavy" so I told him it was only yarn. Yarn can get to be pretty heavy though. I'm wondering if he thought I was too frail looking to carry it from the door to set it down, hahaha, I'm not frail at all even though I may look it according to my dh.I'm pretty strong for an old lady Yes I did see the pattern you're using for the bulky gloves yesterday and it is nice but it must look a lot different made in single crochet... you created a while new pattern. CJ, I think you asked earlier if anyone is cooking or baking anything special for Easter. Not me. Well not unless dh asks me to bake him something tomorrow. If I had cream cheese for the icing I'd probably make him a little carrot cake.Well actually I don't have any carrots either.Maybe I could make him a pineapple upside down cake. Not that he needs to be eating things like that so I won't make any of htem unless he asks.

Actually the kit was less that $26... it was on sale for $25.66 so just under. Normally ,and now is back to, just over $36. Yarn in the kit is called Sprightly so I'll have to see how it goes with my white RHSS. I looked to see if they had this yarn in white and they don't. It's 20% wool which seems like a waste for a Christmas tree skirt.Maybe I'll just use the pattern and use my RHSS both red and white and save this yarn for something else.Maybe make the kids(ds and ddil) a Christmasy afgan or something.

Good morning!
I have all kinds of whites, of course the antique white I used for the baby afghan, a somewhat shimmery white- got no idea how I got that- a plain white, which was part of a kit I never made , and then some whites that were given to me along the way. (two friends have given me yarn that they would no longer be able to use). The baby afghan I made a little over a year ago, I openly confess. Had two slightly different whites in it, but that was a ripple and the ever so slightly different whites were many rows apart from each other.
Ruth, I think its a great idea to use RHSS for the skirt- its easy to work with and very predictable. I would beg to differ that I started a new pattern. I really took the dc Andy gloves, and once I saw that every row is pretty much the same- just modified it to a sc (so its less bulky) and used her pattern to see how to finish the edges and the thumb.
Quiet here....nice to have some peace for awhile before everyone is up. Dh does not want a big deal for Easter food- so I have no idea what I am doing or making. I have to go food shopping anyway and will figure it all out shortly when Dh wakes up.

Good morning Ginny and all the others who will come in later.
Did wake to snow this morning and it's still snowing. Temp is only 20. Tomorrow though is to be 52 and all week its to be like that...quite a bit warmer one day and very cold the next.
Ginny, it sounds as though you also have a variety of whites. and I think a ripple with a white that's a little different when it's not close to the other white sounds fine. I could probably do that with this skirt but I looked in that box (it was a kit that I bought from Red Heart that you could use to make a blanket that had a Red Cross in the middle to donate but I never got it made). There are about 9 skeins of white in there but only one red. I know I used two of the whites that were in there but I dont remember using any of the red so maybe thats all the red that came with it. so to Plan B which will involve going to Walmart and buying some red since I dont have any other red in my gigantic stash. I really don't want to use 20% wool yarn for something that sits on the floor. I was looking up yarn on line last night but I think its way cheaper at the physical store and since dh wants to go there anyway I can just do that.
Ginny, I'm glad you got some time to rest and relax. I hope your dh knows what he wants to eat tomorrow by now. Not sure what we're having yet either. Dh took some chicken legs our of the freezer to have today and its a big pack so some will be fried and some will be used for chicken and noodles
I did get a couple of the tentacles made yesterday. It's amazing how long it takes to make one. But since my dgd is not coming from Montana this weekend I am in no hurry now. I just like to complete things. Goal is, of course to use up some of this yarn but as you see, I don't usually have what I need for a specific project.
Ginny, the Andy gloves are different than the ones you gave me the site for with CarlyW. I like hers except I'm not fond of the way her thumb is made, and now that I do have bulky yarn I will probably make a few but I think I'll make a lot of the Andy ones too as they are so easy and fast
What are you going to work on after you finish the fingerless gloves?
I think you all should come over and we could sit and crochet and sew or knit together. I'll make healthy snacks

Gee Ruth, when can we come over??? Ha ha ha. It might take me a couple days of driving to do so.
Well, Dh got it in his head to go out for lunch after church (yes he is going!) and I called the place he suggested- they are booked until 3. Made a reservation for 3 and when he comes in from yard work I will see what he wants to do.
Glad Dh is joining us at church- we will be going to a church that he claims his father used to attend. That must have been many many many years ago, I never remember his Dad ever attending anywhere- and he is gone 12 years- and did not attend for the 10 years prior to that to my knowledge. But, its better than not going.
Speaking of healthy snacks I need to get back on track. Been wildly out of control for a while now- the only thing that is saving me from gaining a lot back is that I burn it off with activity.

Ginny at least you burn it off so it's ok. I really have a bad way of keeping my weight under control. I eat a lot of candy so I cut out healthy things to keep from gaining. It certainly is not healthy. Dh is after me all the time to eat better.
I'm glad and thankful that your dh will go to church with you. It would be nice if he would go to your church instead of one he believes his father went to but we have to pick our battles as they say. And it's great that he wants to go out to eat. Saves you a lot of work. I remember one year I went out to dinner on Easter with my dd and her older children. It was a nice buffet and we had a good time.I had told one of my patients about it the day before and she asked me to bring her a decorated egg from there so I did. The dgd that I'm making the hat for was little at the time...probably about 6. She'd never had lamb so didn't know about mint jelly. She thought it was jello so took a bunch of it and sure was surprised to find it was mint. After that year they always went out of town on Easter to visit her inlaws. Thanksgiving and Christmas were here.

Hello Crafters Ruth - Thanks for your comments about celebrating with food, I like what you said. We just always hear that it's "wrong" to use food to celebrate, but really what is so bad about it if we are only doing that on special days. I'm glad you received your box of yarn and other goodies. Your weather sounds a bit like mine has been, colder than warmer. I guess it's typical Spring weather. Ginny - Hope you are getting some rest today after your busy day yesterday. I hope everything goes well for you tomorrow too. I bought some shimmery white yarn once to make snowflakes with. I'm just relaxing today and reading. I also like to watch several of the cooking shows that come on Public Television and the Food Network. It's really nice here today, in the 60s and sunny. I'm happy not to get any rain. Take care everyone!

Happy Saturday everyone.
It is very quiet here. Devin and his Mom are away for the weekend. I will probably bring DD home Sun afternoon. I don't know what we will eat tomorrow. I have some steaks and that would be easy to cook. DD will eat anything. The temps here have been 80 for several days. It should get cooler again. I don't like it getting hot too early. Yesterday I went to Knit wits and worked on the b/blanket I am knitting. I also worked on it in the evening. I am going to have to make a trip to the store because I know I wont have enough yarn to finish it. Then I am sure I will have some left over to add to my stash...the never ending stash.
Ginny, I hope you can find a buyer for your dress. I checked out consignment stores a while back and gave up as they don't accept as much as they used to. I am sure there is someone who would love to get a bargain on a beautiful dress suitable for a wedding. I hope you have a very enjoyable Easter and that is great that your DH is willing to go to church and later out to dinner. I think you mentioned that he is retired now and hopefully he will be more relaxed and happy to join you. My DH worked odd hours so I went to church and most places by myself.
Ruth, I can see you are busy as usual. I have never ordered a kit and I have only ordered yarn twice. Though I have been ordering more on line recently. I have been trying to find fisher mens sandals and they have every size but the size I want. I have a short broad foot and I can wear a big boys size 5 or 6 but this year I just can't find them. There is a gap between big boys 5 - 6 and a mens which starts at 6/1/2. It is hard to believe that you still have snow and we are at 80. I hope spring reaches you soon. Everything is blooming here which adds to our allergies but very nice to look at. Hope you can get some more of your octopus tentacles finished this weekend. You mentioned baking DH a pineapple upside down cake and I have been thinking of making a dump cake, I think that is what it is called. I would love some carrot cake but I probably wont attempt that. The problem I have with baking a cake Devin and I are probably the only two who eat it unless it is a chocolate cake or a yellow cake. I love all sorts of cake. DGD is very disciplined about watching her weight so she just doesn't eat cake very often.
Have a good evening. I will probably knit and listen to some more of Poldark. I would love to watch the TV series and I wish I had watched it when it was on PBS about a year or so ago.
cj, you are very disciplined about eating what you bake. congratulations on maintaining your weight for a year so why not have a treat to celebrate. We have those little Cadbury eggs in the house and those are very tempting.

CJ, yes almost all celebrations involve food so we just need to lean how do integrate it into our plan which it seems you are doing in a very successful way. I love cooking shows too and used to watch a lot of them but they always made me want to eat. Now I don't watch so many and when I do they no longer cause that problem. I don't watch many programs on Food Network anymore. Most of my favorites aren't on any more. I do watch Chopped... I record them, and I watch Beat Bobby Flay and Cooks vs Cons. I like the ones on PBS but always forget them and they do have a lot with exotic foods and cooking which I don't care to watch because mostly I'd never be able to get the necessary ingredients here.ON Food Network I don't like to watch the shows with Guy Fieri, or Giada and I think there are a couple others I never cared for. Meg, it's nice you're going to have a nice quiet EAster although taking care of Janet might be tiring but she will enjoy being home. I, too, have a couple nice steaks so thank you for mentioning them. I may have those tomorrow.Yes having left over yarn seems to happen everytime we make something. It's nice if there's something you can actually use them for but even the patterns for making things with scrap yarn usually leaves at least a little bit.And now if you try to make maybe a scrappy afgan sometimes the yarns don't work well together. I did order a bunch of kits a few years ago from Herrschner's. They're still sitting on the shelves not used. Sometime I do have to get to them too.I have a condition know as SABLE...stash accumulation beyond life expectancy. Oh and I've never heard of fisherman's sandals.I do have one pair of sneakers/tennis shoes that are a boy's size.

Post by megk31 on Apr 1, 2018 3:16:31 GMT
Ruth, LOL, I love that SABLE, I am home alone today but have not done any crafting so far but I am going to as soon as I get off the computer. I am sure you have see fisherman's sandals. They come in sizes from little kids up through man's size. But for some reason they do not have them anywhere that I have checked in big boy or youth those sizes are 5& 6. I like them because a boy's size gives me more width at the toes. If you type fisherman's sandals in the search you will know what I am talking about. I have been wearing these sandals for years and this is the first year I have been unable to find them.
I am undecided as to whether I will go to church tomorrow. All the people who only go at Christmas and Easter will be there and parking will be full. I will see how I sleep tonight and what I feel like in the morning.
Sleep well. I am off to listen to my book and knit.

BLessed Easter for those who celebrate.
Meg, I hear you about all the extra folks at Easter services, and it sure does make it a challenge to find parking and seating in church. I have been to church lots of time on Easter - rarely miss church at all - and find I cannot get a seat on Easter because I did not leave home early enough. I am sure you will do what is best for you- the Lord knows where your heart is. There are also services on the radio or television. I had a college professor who used to wear fishermans sandals all the timr- rain, snow etc....with no socks. Have you tried Zappos or Amazon? Is a surprise to me that noone seems to be carrying them and I hope you find them. I hope that you have a quiet day. I am guessing that Devin returns to school this week which can be stressful- getting someone ready for school that is.
Ruth- Food network is my 3rd or 4th default channel. My daughters love the eccentric types- Guy Fieri (sp) and the like. Rarely I watch chopped, or Worst cooks in america (if that is the name of the show). I hope that you figured out the saga of which yarn to use for that pretty tree skirt. I am sure you have.....
CJ- do you still have nice weather?? Hope you relax and enjoy your day. Hope the rain stays away too.
Hi Phyl!!!
Well we did indeed attend another church. Its going to take some time to digest it all and see what Dh decides to do. Cannot say that this church is really my cup of tea- honestly I see no net gain in attending there. The gain would be if Dh decides to go there regularly- and if he does out of respect for him I would join him.
We are heading out to dinner in a little bit...Ds and Dd #2 are joining us. Got snow in the forcast for us tomorrow am- looks like a delayed opening is possible. In April. Welcome to weather in New York.

Hello Crafters - HAPPY EASTER to all of you Ruth - There are a lot of those cooking shows I don't bother with either because I'd never eat the foods they are cooking. I ask myself who really eats like that, I sure don't use those ingredients in my cooking Meg - My favorite Easter candy is the Russell Stover Milk Chocolate Marshmallow Eggs. I've sure had my share of them to the last month or so I hope you and your DD have a nice time today. Ginny - I hoe you enjoy your dinner with family, how nice that you don't have to cook and can just enjoy the meal. We might have some wet snow tonight too. I'm hoping not too much though. I have my pie made, took a few hours since I have to make it in steps - first the graham cracker crust, then the vanilla pudding filling and finally the meringue. I'm letting it cool before cutting into it. I only make this pie once a year - it was a specialty of my mother so it brings me lots of nice memories of her. I decided I might not have ham and macaroni and cheese tonight and just have something lighter to eat. I can always have that some other day. It's cloudy here today, but around 60. Can't believe we could get snow tonight. Take care everyone!

Hello to all. And Happy and blessed Easter. Meg, I did look those up and of course I've seen many, many people wearing them I just didn't know they were called that. I was thinking Zappos too. They have free returns if they don't fit. I don't know if they have boys sizes or not but I would think that they do. Ginny sure is right, the Lord knows what's in our hearts. I've had the same experience of not being able to find a parking space or a seat on Easter.I don't know what people get out of attending only once a year but I do pray that many of the Easter attendees will hear the truth preached. Ginny, yes I would do hte same. And if the church preaches and teaches God's truth it's worth going to. Some churches are not. Some preach a doctrine that is far from the truth and it's actually harmful to attend those. I'm sure the one your dh and you attended this morning is not one of those. God had a lot to say about churches in the book of Revelation. The seven churches are good examples of churches today. I got all my tentacles made. Now for the eyeballs and eyelids. I think I mentioned that dgd is coming to town next weekend so I'd really like to get this put together and finished by then so I can give it to her. Unfortunately her sisters and brothers will probably be there too so some may also want one but I hope not although I think I'm really pretty proficient in tentacles now but it's just such a chore to have to make so many pieces. I'd do it though.I told my dh that if anyone not related wants one I'm charging $45, with $25 inadvance, they have to accept the color I make and have to give me at least three weeks to get it done . That should discourage everyone although it seems that online people do pay even more ridiculous prices than that for things. So today after I do a little more Bible study I'm going to sew the tentacles together. The pattern calls for just attaching all with two loose pieces as you do edging and connecting them with that edging but I'm not going to do it that way. I want to make sure they're going to go together correctly before putting them on the hat and edging the whole thing.

CJ, your message wasn't there when I posted. Happy EAster to you also. Your pie sounds good. Dh was talking about a pie like that last night. And ham and macaroni and cheese sounds wonderful too. You are smart though in not eating it all in one day. Maybe take one day a week or every two weeks and have something special. I'm going to do that too from now on. I need to eat in a more healthy way.Thank you for sharing how you manage your eating. Nice thing about these boards is that we can get a little push now and then from reading the posts of others.
