Good morning Ginny and all who stop in later. It wasn't snowing when I got up but it is now. High for the day was predictied to be only 28 but they changed it to 35. Monday will be 71 they say.
Yes going to craft fairs and quilt shows is really an inspiration and you are so right, Ginny, that as we go along we do stop to see how things are done.
I do hope your dh will go along with the pizza idea. My dh loves pizza but he doesn't like to have to pay for delivery so we only get it when we're out to bring home. I hope you get a chance to sit and do some crafting and relaxing this evening. It sounds like your pastor has a great plan for his sermons and a good basis to build them on.
the particular fgs that I'm doing right now are crocheted flat then the seam is done and the thumb is made by just not sewing a couple of the stitiches. I dont usually crochet around the thumb opening but sometimes do. If it's hard to crochet around it you could use a yarn needle and do a blanket stitch around the opening. Luckily I had the drawings of their hands to measure by because I wouldn't have known that a 4 year old's hands were that small. They seemed too small to me but when I measure with the drawing they are great.I do want to do some in the round and actually small rounds aren't hard and I do like to do them better since there's no seam. They dont actually have very many patterns for fingerless gloves for children. Most people would say that for small children they wouldn't see the use of fingerless gloves because the fingers would get cold. Well I don't think that they will use the fgs for playing outdoors..probably will just wear them in the house just as a kind of decorative thing or maybe wear them to church. They have a very cold church in fact so fingerless gloves would be perfect for there.
Just noticed this week's thread is listed that is goes thru the 13th... Good thing I'm not the one starting it because I never know what the date is but since so many have pointed out that today is "Friday the 13th" I know this one. Most often I don't notice what the heading says. Im on one other thread and the person that starts it often says she made a mistake and I find that I haven't noticed it at all.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today and looking forward to the weekend Ginny - Your weather sounds nice. I hope you get a break from cooking dinner tonight - pizza sounds good! Ruth - Those must be some really small FG for the 4 year old! I bet that little girl will love to wear those when she gets them Meg - Hope you are doing well today and getting in some crafting or listening to a good book. Phyl - Hope you are well. I'm somewhat superstitious, so I'm glad to just stay home today and not go out. I was gone about 8 hours yesterday, which is a lot for me, so it's good to relax today. I saw a quilting tutorial from MSQC this morning for a really easy quilt. I'm going to look at my Jelly Rolls of fabric and see if I have one that would work for this quilt. Here's a link to the video in case you'd like to watch it: www.missouriquiltco.com/land/tutorials/keyhole-quilt/index.html?utm_campaign=newsletter_004132018_qt_t223&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=msqc&utm_content=button1&utm_term=qt_t223&M_BT=44907198152It's sunny and in the 80s here today, a little bit warmer than I like but I'm sure many people around here are enjoying it. Take care everyone!

CJ, yes after being out for that long yesterday I'm sure it is nice just being at home and relaxing.I'd love to have a day in 80's right now. I prefer they stay in 70's but right now it sounds good. I did go out to the mailbox at the end of the street and it wasn't too bad but I wouldn't complain if it was a little bit warmer. I'm going to go look at that video in a minute.
I just finished weaving in ends on 4 pairs of fingerless gloves, 5 dishcloths, 7 potholder/hotpads, and 17 hats so finally a true finish it Friday for me. I still have 3 pairs of fingerless to actually finish one of the gloves then weave in ends and I have one pair that has only one glove partially made and I don't remember what pattern I used or what size hook (although probably an H) so I'm just going to rip that one out and start over. Dgs (the 4 year old) wanted blue gloves so I made him a pair in denim color and I'll make him some with this yarn.
Ok, off to look at the video of the quilt.

Yes that's a great quilt. Not one of my favoritesI think because it is made from pretty muted colors, but it's still really great. I wonder how she sews so fast and still sews in a straight line. Makes me want to get out some fabric and make something.Thank you for posting the link CJ
It also made me think of the fabric scraps she has. I wonder if they do anything with them. I think most would make great stuffing for toys and maybe even pillows if it was cut up right

Hello everyone, This will be brief. Today was Knit Wits day. On the way there I stopped to have the new lens installed in the frames which I want to keep. I just bought them in Oct. I don't think there is much more they can do for me at the moment. I had a nice time at K W and got a little crocheting done. One of our members brought a quilt to show us. It is for her grandson who will be 21 soon. I called it a memory quilt because all the squares were happy memories, school days & other places places he had been so I am sure he will love it. It is a queen size quilt and the back is blue.
I have been watching the news and listening to the radio while I was in the car. You have to admit there was a lot going on today. Now its time to shut it off and get ready for bed. I have been knitting this evening and my b/blanket is about finished. If I don't finish it tonight I will probably finish it tomorrow. I want to work on something different.
Ruth, I just noticed it is Friday 13th, well I will be off to bed soon. My DH passed away on Friday 13th. I am not superstitious. Devin and his mom have gone away for the weekend so it will be quiet here though I may bring DD home tomorrow.
cj, good idea to have a quiet day at home. When I have a busy day I like to stay home the next day.
Good night to you all, Ginny, cj, Ruth and Phyl. sleep well.

I wrote a reply to this last evening but guess it didnt go through. Meg, I'm glad you had a good time at Knitwits. The quilt you spoke of sounds wonderful and hopefully her grandson will appreciate it and make it a family heirloom. With half the family away for the weekend it will indeed be quiet except for the time when Janet is home could be tiring for you but I know as a mother that it's something you want to do. You're a good mom, grandma and great grandma
It's a little warmer today than yesterday. I haven't accomplished much so far except look at patterns. Im looking for tiny dinosaur patterns or actually any tiny animals I can make to put in little eggs that look as though the animal is hatching. They don't even have to be real small. I can make bigger eggs, but they do seem hard to find esp in the free ones. Some are asking for over $5 for a pattern for just one animal. I've saved some pictures and may try to make some by "designing" the pattern myself.

good afternoon, last weekend the ky family was here. we had a good time. then tuesday don and I took off for Missouri star quilt company in Hamilton.
every quilter should go there at least once In their lifetime. 10 buildings to go through. yes I did spend money 109.73 so that must mean I had a good time. I did buy the unicorn panel and fabric to make Hannah that quilt.
we stayed In camron. their is a little shop there called crossroads quilting. when I first walked In I thought not much of a quilt shop. then a few steps In I saw about 5 other rooms. the ladies were so nice.
we stopped at some friends in lincoln ne. had a good time. came home yesterday because of the storm coming. we bucked a head wind for most of the way.it was cold and windy no matter where we stopped on the way home.
we didn't get to see our friend jerry or go the quilt shop In Lincoln.
some quilters make those weighed quilts. I think they would be better then yarn. I think they are a lot of work. did look them up at one time. phyl

Good afternoon !!
Phyl- great to see you here. Hope that you enjoyed your time visiting your family- do they come up from Kentucky often?? Think I will probably have to live through others experiences visiting MSQ- although it sure does sound like an amazing place. If you only spent $109 you did well!!! I can imagine it must be hard looking at all that fabric and having to decide what you REALLY like and what you can leave there. Overall, their prices are a bit lower than most private quilt shops- or at least it looks taht way to me. Sounds like an awesome trip- Don is a sweetie for going with you and letting you check out so much about quilting. Also nice that you visited with friends....welcome home!
Meg- good to see you. My mom used to do that, have new lenses put into an existing frame. Hope that they work out well for you and improve your quality of life. The memory quilt sounds very special, its so neat what others do to express themselves and commemorate someones life. I am sure that memory quilt will be cherished. Hope taht if Dd comes to visit she is in a cheerful mood and you can relax and enjoy having her home.
Ruth- glad its warmer near you. Were you able to find any tiny animals to crochet?? Somewhere there has to be some free patterns to do that....will let you know if I find any.
Got some shopping done today and some errands. Its sort of warm- but tomorrow is supposed to be much colder. Hope that maybe I can crochet a bit this evening Ginny

Hello, here I am again being lazy. I do need to make a quick trip to the store. The sun is shining so it is a good day to get out of the house. I did work on my b/blanket last evening and if I put my mind to it I could finish it this evening.
Ruth, I think my DFs DGS helped to pick out what squares he wanted. One of the squares was made from his high school T-shirt. I am sure he will treasure it because his DGM made it especially for him. Looking at patterns is still crafting and I hope you found one that you liked. I decided not to bring Janet home this afternoon maybe tomorrow but not sure. I just didn't feel like taking care of her today. I do feel guilty when I don't go and pick her up.
Phyl, it is nice to see you back and I can see you had a wonderful time. I think you are right about the weighted quilts. I checked them out on line and I don't think you could knit one. There must be something about the fabric and how you put it together. I think they would be wonderful if you had a sleeping problem.
cj, I just watched the tutorial for the key hole quilt and I would love to be able to do that but I just don't have a place where I can set all my stuff up. I did do some sewing at one time but I gave up because I had small kids around.
Ginny, the frames I had them put the new lens in were bought last Oct so they are too new and perfectly good to not use. I have had the lens changed several times in the last few months. Frames can get expensive and I hadn't thought of reusing the old frames before. Of course I used to have a bad habit of setting my frames on my bed and then I would forget they were there and I would sit on them. I now watch carefully where I set my glasses.
I hope you all have an enjoyable evening planned. Now I need to go to the store.

Phyl, It's nice to see you. I did hear that you met with Doris and some others. Doris seems like a real sweetie
My dh always would like to just have new lenses put in his frames but he's always run into trouble when he asks them to do it. Some have told him it can't be done and others told him that it would cost less to just get new frames. He's still procrastinating about making an appointment with the eye doctor so I'll have to start nudging him harder in that direction. Oh and also here we don't really have any that make the glasses right here so if he were to have new lenses put into his old frames I guess he'd have to be without glasses for about a week while they sent his frames to be used in making the new glasses.I don't know if they would have the lenses made and sent here then put the lenses in his frames at that time or not.
Ginny, it's always good to have your shopping done and necessary errands too. Now hopefully you'll be able to relax and crochet or whatever else you would like to do the rest of the evening. Did you have your pizza last night? What crochet project are you working on now? I started a pair of crochet cable stitch fingerless gloves but it's taking time getting used to this pattern because the writer of it is not very clear in her directions. I'll do a couple more rows and see how things go and if they aren't going well I'll just abandon this pattern and go for something easier and faster...something I've done before.I did one pair of cable ones before but I don't know what pattern I used. I know it was easier to follow than this one.

Meg, your post wasn't there when I typed mine. Good to see you. I will definitely have my dh ask them about using his old frames. Yes you are a caring person especially when it comes to family so I'm sure you do feel guilty when you don't bring Janet home for the day however it does seem as though she is happy at her care home.
The crocheted blanket that I saw and was called a "weighted blanket" I think was only called that by the designer because she used such heavy yarn. I have no idea how the "real" weighted blankets are made...do they just use heavier fabric or do they actually put something heavy in them to make them even heavier than heavy fabric would make them? I don't know

So apparently these blankets are made by filling them with weighted beads. They have a lot of good tutorials on how to make them. They seem a lot like quilts except that they have squares filled with these beads rather than being quilted in designs. Interesting.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
I'm glad you enjoyed watching the quilting video. I don't think Jenny Doan is too picky about making things in her quilt perfect. To me it seems that she's more focused on getting things done quickly and making quilt making easy. That's one of the things I like about her style and patterns.
It's really warm here today, in the high 80s - miserable! We're supposed to get thunderstorms and rain tomorrow and into Monday which will cool it down. I'll be happy about that. I've had to pull out a fan and turn it on since it's about 81 degrees in the house. I sure hope the heat will get out of the house quickly once it cools down. I'm also hoping for no leaking from the ceiling during the rain.
I went out and ran a few errands today, fortunately traffic wasn't too bad, even for a Saturday.
Take care everyone!

Happy Sunday all!
Meg, were you able to finish the afghan last night? Try not to beat yourself up if you did not have DD come home this weekend. Those unaware of how very intense it can be caring for a special needs person might not understand- but there are indeed days in which no matter how very much you love someone, its better to leave them in the hands of professionals. I well remember early in my career the story of 2 special needs brothers- at the time they were around 18 and 16. I learned at that ttime that their father abandoned their mother, which made me furious. Each boy was so loved by their mom- who did a wonderful job of training them to the best of their ability to care for themselves and be self sufficient. Indeed she did an awesome job (I was the school bus driver for the older brother). Anyway, I lamented to my dispatcher what a crumb I thought the father was for leaving the mom with 2 special needs boys. Her response was that perhaps he was actually doing the boys a service by being out of their lives if he could not be a loving father to them. Wow- I learned a lot that day. We know you love Dd very very much- you speak of her often and its of great comfort to you that she lives nearby. If you needed to take a break from visitation for a weekend, its ok.....she is well cared for at her care home and you can see her next weekend- or when it works out best for you. Perhaps you needed to take a break for yourself.
Ruth- absolutely check out reusing Dh’s old frames, it sure does save a lot. My mom used to (every other visit) reuse her frames- sometimes she would buy new glasses too but get the new RX into the old frame so she would have a cheap backup pair. THe mark up on frames is insane- they cost very little to make.
Still finishing the last pair of fg. All I have to do is crochet the thumb- and weave in ends...and I am done. Its supposed to be a cold week, so my coworker will probablty appreciate having them.
Cannot believe tomorrow is Monday- again. We went out Friday night and did some shopping yesterday. I like it much better when I am home all weekend. Got a little bit of yard work done yesterday also- honestly my friends, I would rather craft than do yard work.
Enough of my bellyaching. Have a good day G
CJ- please do not tell me it is so hot near you!!! I hope it cools down quickly. I agree with your opinion on Jenny Doan- think she is just interested in people enjoying quilting instead of makiing us paranoid, perfect quilters. Noone is looking for the mistakes anyway!!!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The weather here today is cool and cloudy, with rain. We might have thunderstorms tonight. The temperatures are almost 40 degrees cooler than yesterday's high around 89! Weather is so strange I am glad to have the house cool down, it was really miserable yesterday. I haven't been doing much of anything today. I'll check out the Slow Stitching Quilt Blog later and see what all the people who link up to her page are working on. That will have to be my crafting for the day. Take care everyone!
