Hard to believe that it is Monday again!!! And the thread was so busy toward the end of the day. I am so thankful that we have each other to share ideas and opinions on crafting- the large craft stores are too big to offer advice on knitting or crochetting- but we have each other here to share advice and ask questions!
Its super windy here and supposed to get colder. Chance of freezing rain and some light snow too. It will make for an interesting trip home for the kids in the bus.
Hope everyone is having a great Monday! Happy crafting! Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all who join us today.
We had rain overnight but the sun was shining when I took Devin to school this morning. It is chilly and there are still rain clouds in the air.
Ginny, thank you for starting us off to a new week. I hope you don't get too much snow. Driving on slippery roads is not fun.
I have started working on another b/blanket but it is not really what I want to do but at least it is keeping my hands busy. I feel lost if I don't have something I want to work on. I did print out a couple of b/blanket patterns on Pinterest last evening.
I will check back later. Have a good day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well on this Monday
Ruth - I've seen those irons you mentioned, I think they are Oliso's. I really like my lightweight Rowenta, so I just have to be careful in the future
Meg - What happened was that I turned my iron on (on high too!) and left it face down on my pressing board and it burned into the fabric. Fortunately I smelled it before an actual fire started.
Phyl - We've done 5 blocks so far on the Solstice Quilt Challenge. I hope they continue to be fairly easy. She kinda threw me with the applique and now I'm wondering if there will be some other things like Paper Piecing - something I haven't mastered
Ginny - Hope your MIL has settled into rehab. It's rainy and windy here today too.
I did get the quilt blocks out yesterday and matched up some backing fabric to each of them. For a few of them I need to put some sashing and borders around them since they are fairly small. This is another good way for me to use some fat quarters and other fabric I probably never would have used.
I had good intentions to work on the sample blocks today, but with the rain and wind here today, the cover that I've had placed over my car that has been leaking water into the trunk kept flying off, even though I had secured it. I've been outside three times today putting it back on and think I've finally secured it enough to stay. It's supposed to be windy through tomorrow, so I hope that will take care of it. I figure the worst that can happen is that water does get in the trunk again.
I need to get the car to an auto body place, but I'm not sure if they can fix it while I'm waiting. I don't want to have to drop the car off because then I have to get someone to pick me up and take me home and I hate to ask anyone to do that. I guess I'll figure it out.
I'm feeling stressed out today, so I picked up one of my crochet projects and did a few rows on that. It always calms me down some to do crochet
Take care everyone.

Well Monday again. I'm glad to see most everyone here today. Phyl, Gail and it seems like someone else are not here but the rest of us will continue on. Weather report said that there was a 60% of precip today, meaning snow but it didn't look at all like it would snow but now it's snowing and it's to continue tomorrow too. No wind though which I love because now I have a nice fire in the woodstove and can sit and crochet and be warm and toasty. Meg, I'm glad you found a couple patterns you like and were able to print them.I usually try to crochet with the pattern showing on my laptop but that's not easy. I'd like my dh to try the printer on his new desktop but so far he hasn't done it. I'll go to the library soon and print some things. So far today I've only visited with dh and we cleaned out the junk drawer in the kitchen. It's amazing how much one drawer can hold. We ended up throwing some things away...which is hard for dh...and he set aside some things to put in his toolboxes instead of them being in the kitchen so a good productive day but no crafting yet. I'm going to clean out some more drawers I think but I want to get this second beard hat done and the grandson and grandaughter's gifts wrapped and packed so that I can mail them on Wed when we go out. So goal is to finish hat and beard tonight. I organized some of my bookmarked patterns last night instead of crocheting. Ginny, knitting often makes me more tense but crocheting is relaxing to me too...as long as things go right that is

CJ, luckily the places we're had to take our vehicles have shuttle service so we haven't had to find a way to get home and back to pick them up again.

Meg, I have another question for you. Someone emailed me and asked what size and length circular needles I use to make those diagonal baby blankets. Well I've never actually made a baby blanket with that pattern as I mentioned yesterday so I didn't know what to tell her and said I'd ask you. I started one about 10 years ago but never finished it.I know you've made a whole lot of them

hi, been dog sitting on and off since friday. so no crafting done. think our winter thaw spring is over. we are in a winter weather alert starting at noon tomorrow. could get up to 6 inches by Wednesday.
yes those are oilso irons. very expensive. I had one years ago. that one ended getting hot and burned a hole in my ironing board cover. they tried to tell me I had it set to hot. don looked at it and there was a thing on the plate that stuck. was still under waranty so it got sent to ca. they fixed it. I sent the iron. cover, and fabric so they could see what was wrong. don't remember how much longer it lasted. you buy one keep your receipt ,box and information together.
cj when you are done with the blocks will you get to keep them.
happy crafting phyl.

Hi Ruth, when I knit the diagonal b/blankets I use a size 13 bamboo circular needle which is 25" long, that's the cable length and the bamboo ends are 5" length each I use two strands of yarn when I knit this b/blanket so a smaller needle would probably do if you were using just one strand of yarn.
Good night everyone. It has been a long day and I am going to bed. I did some crocheting but I will just fall asleep over it.

thanks Meg, I knew that you used two strands but I forgot when I asked you about the size needle so thanks for reminding me of that. Using two strands seems like a really good idea because otherwise the blanket wouldn't be very warm. So I gave her the info and told her it was based on using two strands. I really have a lot of that pink pound of love so I think I'm going to have to make some of those blankets to use up some of it. I also have it in other colors such as green and blue but I have way more pink than anything else.
The hat for the second beard hat ended up being way too big so I've started another. Dh said he'd like to have the big one. He has kind of a large head. I followed the suggested measurement for the men's hat but they must think that all men have a very big head.

Good morning!
It's neat to read about the diagonal blankets- and have learned a lot from you all! Had no idea that there were bamboo needles. My mom knitted, (pretty well too) and I do remember her using circular needles. My sister knits- but does not crochet. Mom could do both.
Ruth I am sure you followed the directions for the men's hat! (You do so much crochetting or knitting....). Think we all know of patterns that are a little off on size. But it's a good thing that Dh will take the hat! It's a win win. Everyone has a junk drawer! (Mine needs cleaning too). Since having to clean out my mother's house, I have become much better at throwing stuff out. My Dh is also becoming more of a pack rat....I guess as long as he stays out of my craft stuff I do not care too much (and he is very good at staying away from my craft stuff!)
Meg, it's always nice to have a project lined up to work on, isn't it? will this new baby blanket be of the same pattern as the other ones? Hope you slept well last night...you mentioned you were tired.
Phyl - hope you are ready for snow! Will you be dog sitting much longer? Enjoyed reading your story about the malfunctioning iron. So glad you kept the reciept and that the company stood by their product.
CJ- yes, it sure was windy! (I took the recycling out only to bring it out again as the receptacle was blowing all over). Were you able to keep the rain out of the trunk? I found when I tried to teach myself to quilt (with the sample blocks) that I had to work on it awhile...and then walk away from it. And it took me 3 or 4 tries before I decided I would be able to do it. You will know when you are ready and probably get it figured out much sooner than I did! totally agree with you how relaxing crochetting is!
Well this same nor'easter that brought high winds and rain south of us (to CJ) brought me a snow day!! Can you see me smiling? I still got up early- had to wait for the call from work that we were closed....and then had to shovel out the driveway so Ds could get out. I figured we would have a delayed opening- but truly and glad that school is closed. DD ( who lives 2 towns over) also has no school today (she is a teacher). Ds just texted me that he got to work ok. So here I sit in my pj's- with that baby blanket waiting for me to pick it up again. I have about 14 inches done- hope to get a lot more done today.
Have a good day! BBL Ginny

Ginny, yes they have a chart online that tells how big the circle should be after you've done all your increases and it's definitely off for men. They also have info on the chart on how big around the hat should be and how tall from top to botton. I should have just gone with how I've always made them.
It snowed here yesterday, all night and is still snowing but no wind so I was able to make a fire in the woodstove so am nice and warm as I sit and crochet. Kids still had school. I'm glad you got a day off. It's always great to be able to sit home in our jammies and just take a break.

Ruth, the yarn I use mostly is LB pound of love. The 2nd yarn is a lighter weight baby yarn. I if I used two strands of the LB pound of love the blanket would be too heavy.
I have been gone all morning stocking up on groceries. Now I am home and they are all put away. It is a beautiful day here, sunshine and blue skies, wind and some white fluffy clouds. My allergies are bothering me, itchy eyes, tickle in my throat and stuffed up nose. Other wise I feel fine.
Phyl, thank you for the reminder to keep receipts. I don't know how many times I have thrown receipts that I needed later.
cj, Have you asked the people working on your car if they could give you a ride home and also pick you up to bring the car home. The Honda dealer where I take my car offers that service.
Ginny, I hope you enjoyed your day off. How is the b/blanket coming along ? I am still trying to decide on a pattern for a b/blanket. In the mean time I am doing one in basic crochet and adding some stripes. I should knit some caps as I have a lot of left over yarn and that's a good project to use up the yarn, I am sleepy and I did sleep well last night so maybe I will take a quick nap. I will check back later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. Phyl - these quilt blocks are just "orphans" from other projects, so I'm going to sandwich them with batting and a backing and practice machine quilting on them. I'll keep them for myself since there are things wrong in most of them. Hope your weather isn't too bad Ginny - My recycling container blew over too, so I just left it on it's side and I'll put it back up tomorrow. And YEAH!! for a snow day Meg - Glad to hear you got your shopping done, hope your allergies get better Ruth - Your crocheting in from of the fire stove sounds so nice, I hope you enjoyed it The weather is better here today and supposed to be up to 60 degrees tomorrow, so I'll take the cover off the car then and let it dry off. I'm a little paranoid about getting in a car with someone, and the places I would feel comfortable taking my car are about 15 miles away so I doubt anyone would drive me home and pick me back up. I'll give the place a call one day here and ask if they work on it while I wait. I went out to a steakhouse for dinner tonight with my brother and sister-in-law. It was really nice and up on the 11th floor of a building that looked out over Reagan National Airport, Washington, D.C. and the National Harbor. The lights were really pretty by the time we left. I didn't have any time for crafting today and I might go out tomorrow to do my shopping and errands, but hopefully I can get back to my quilt sandwiches soon.

CJ, your dinner and the scenery sound wonderful
Well I'm finally done with all the Feb projects, have all the ends woven in and everything. Now to just wrap them and presents and pack and mail whenever we get out. After all is wrapped and packed I'll work on March projects then won't have anything that absolutely has to be done until August. I have my dgks' list but there is no deadline on that so I'll work at my leasure and also work on my to donate items.
We were going to go out tomorrow but we did get quite a bit of snow so hopefully will wait a day since I don't have those things wrapped and packed yet and just don't feel like doing it anymore tonight. If the wind picks up and drifts in the driveway it may be put off until next week.
I'm going to make a list of things I might make for ddil since she didn't answer my question as to if there's something she wants me to make for her.I want to buy a couple things to put with the things I make too but I'm really bad at deciding on gifts. What do you get for a soon to be 37 year old mother of seven? I think she has plenty of lotions and creams because for awhile she was making her own. She took a course and became a certified aroma therapist. I would think she would want to pick her own clothes and jewelry so I'm at a loss.
