Good morning! Its a cold and chilly morning here with some heavy rain. Somehow its supposed to be almost 60 later on- right now its 40 and raw.. Thats ok, I have sweaters on and my nice slippers. Meg, Hope that you had a good evening! Is the Poldark book series good? Perhaps I can get my hands on that, I am sure my library can get it if they do not have it available right now. Hope you were not offended at all by what I said yesterday- think Ruth might have stated things a bit more clear than I did. I think you are a wonderful mom and grandmom and friend! You wear many hats and are doing the best you can to care for everyone who loves you plus yourself. Ruth, i am sure you will do fine scaling down the fg pattern to a 4 year olds hand. Came home from work to find that DGS was here....so I will be short. Dd had to take DGD to the dentist and it was easier to leave DGS with us. Its good to see the little fellow. G

Good morning to all and happy new week. I had a whole post almost done and my computer decided to close down and do updates. Of course it warmed me but I thought I could get it done and sent prior to it closing but nope...closed on me.
Meg, I definitely will have dh shop around for his glasses after he gets his prescription. They usually try to pressure you into buying them there. We have only one actual opthalmologist in town and he doesn't do refractions for glasses. He has so many patients that he has to limit himself to taking care of eye problems that the optometrists are not allowed to take care of. Thanks for clarifying for me how the new lenses are put in locally. I definitely need to look up those books. I'm always looking for a good book to read. Right now I'm reading one that is a cozy mystery in which the main character is a knitter and belongs to a knitting group that meets every week. she's a young widow with a college age daughter. There's no bad language in the book and no sex scenes. The woman hasn't even dated since her husband died. And the story is good and is written well
Ginny, I know you were surprised and glad to see the little guy. You daughter is very fortunate to have someone to leave one of the children with so that she doesn't have to take all three with her to the dentist.
Well I did work on the fg's a little last evening. Didn't get too far on those because I wanted to start that baby blanket that Ginny sent us the pattern for. I started it and finished about three rows. The pattern, I think, is unneccesarily confusing in that the instructions say "if a number appears before the stitch it means do that number of stitches in the next stitch, but if the number is after the stitch it means do that stitch in that number of stitches." And there is nowhere in the pattern that has a number before the stitch. When I first read it I thought it was like another pattern I have in which you do a sc and 2dcs all in a stitch but it looks to me that this one is, sc in next stitch, then dc one in each of the next 2 stitches so that's how I did it and it's beautiful. Is that how you did it, Ginny?
It's a beautiful day here. Over 65 already. Dh is napping though so I don't think we'll be going anywhere which is, of course, fine with me.
So now I'm going to get back to some crocheting. I do have some cooking to do after dh gets up. I'm making this blanket with some yarn called "cupcake" by Lion. They're very small skeins. Looks like baby yarn but its a #4 ww. They were on sale for 50 cents...usually $1 so yes you do have to use a lot of them to make even a small blanket. There's only 85 yards in each one
CJ I hope you're having a good day. Did the roofers let you know when they can do your roof? Has the insurance company finalized so you can get the money they promised?

Actually this yarn has only 65 yards not 85. I love the color they call almond and would have loved to have more of that. Unfortunately they apparently don't sell this anymore and are calling their new "cakes" that have various colors in one cake by the name of Cupcake. Guess when I bought it it must have been a closeout. Even on Etsy the original Cupcake is all sold out.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today We had heavy rain here last night so I had set up the plastic tarps and buckets in the room I had leaking in, just in case. I woke up around 4:00 A.M. hearing the heavy rain so I went to check and I did have some leaking. I decided to go ahead and stay up and I'm glad I did because I had a new place leak and it was right near where the TV and Cable box were plugged in. So I unplugged those. It's very frustrating that the tarps aren't working, but I'm guessing the rain is running down under them and coming in the ceiling. When we've had a light rain I haven't had the leaking, but the heavy rain starts it. I called the roofing company and told them I'm pretty much at a breaking point. I don't have time to deal with the insurance company I need my roof replaced now, at least the part where the leaking is. I said if they are not able to help me soon then maybe I'll have to call another company. I also said I'm worried about a fire in my house. So the guy I talked to said he would be in my area tomorrow and will stop by in the morning and see what can be done about this one section of roof. If I'm not satisfied with what he suggests then I just have to call another company and get things moving. It's cooler and damp here today, I'm happy not to have the hot weather. Take care everyone!

CJ, it does sound from here like that roofing company is not very good. If it were me and I could afford it I'd just go ahead and have the while roof replaced. It's going to cost you more in the long run if you do parts at a time.and then you'll also have the potential for further leaking. And if you find you need to sell the house, having a new roof will be a positive.ON the other hand if you're area is truly a bad one and the house is old and needs a lot of rnnovation, putting a new roof on might not be a wise financial decision. Maybe look up the market value of your house and see what houses in your area are selling for. I'm sorry to hear that you have all this stress going on.
I just made my dh a hummingbird cake. It's in the oven.

Good evening! Ruth, if you are confused over the baby afghan pattern, then Lord knows how I ever figured out the pattern to make an afghan. Yes, I did it the way you figured out and just by varying between Sc and two DC, it turns out looking really pretty! What color are you using to make it? Sorry that the cupcake yarn is in such small skeins and that you cannot get more of the color you want. Guess you could try ebay- but would not get a sale price for sure.
CJ- I feel so bad for you! I am really hoping that this roofing company gets to your house tomorrow and secures the roof so that it no longer leaks. This has to be so frusrating for you- stressful too. Hope you can get it fixed to avoid further damage to your home.
I am working on the pillowcases again- the first one needs only a little work and it will be done. Gave the fg to the coworker who loved them and now anothe coworker is asking me to make a pair for her. I cannot do this for everyone- and at this point figure I will ask the first coworker to give me a tiny amount of money for htem ( I know she will i I ask) and then tell lthe second woman that she will have to pay me the same. Think that is fair.
I’d better think about getting to bed. Have a great night all Ginny

Ginny, I'm easily confused. And to just make an excuse it was late at night when I started it. I didn't see the pattern emerging but soon after I started I did see it. Now the only problem is that I forgot after the first row to stitch in only the back loop but its beautiful anyway and next one I'll remember to do the back loop and that will give it more texture and depthalthough it really doesn't need it.

Good morning! Ruth, hope I did not sound snotty last night- I surely do not take to new crochet patterns easily....and fortunately for me found that one not too crazy to work with. The back loop makes it stand out nicely.....what I really appreciated was that for each row I would just count my “humps”- instead of a stitch count- and doing so kept me honest and on track. Hope the pattern works out well for you also- I am sure you will master it much more quickly than I did! (Remember I had to tear out a lot early on).
Got some embroidery done last night. Guess I better start my morning and get into my morning routine G

I did want to add that a second coworker tried to convince me to make her a pair of fg. Told her I charge $5 a pair.....suddenly she said she knows how to crochet! Good, go figure it out for yourselfl G

Ginny, no you did not sound snotty at all!!! And you're better at crocheting than you think and I'm not as good as you think. I've already ripped some out. I would rip it out now and do it in the back loop but I'm up to about row 10 so am just going to go ahead with this one as it is.That's just too much to rip out. Yes after the "humps" started emerging I did realize that I was doing it correctly and did notice I did some extra dc's and thus the ripping. It is a beatiful pattern and I thank you for sending it. Colors..well since I have a large bag of these little cupcake yarns but only 4 of each I'm doing it in three of the colors, Almond, pink lemonade and sugarplum which is a lilac color. Since they're only 65 yards, I'm doing a full skein of each which is about five rows so I have wide bands of each color. So I'm doinga skein of each then repeating till all of them are used up.
Not as nice weather wise here today but not bad either.I hope everyone has a good day.

Ginny, it sounds like that woman is just too lazy to make her own and wanted you to do the work for her. For $5 though she should still have jumped at the chance to have you make them. Tell them $25 . For $5 you might have them lined up at your door looking for you to make them a pair. Yesterday I did make one little fg for my dgs and will make the other today. I worked on the baby blanket mostly then before going to sleep I worked on another of the themostitch potholders. I kind of like alternating between three projects. It will take longer to get each done that way but it doesn't become tiresome or boring this way. Still waiting for the measurements for the Bible covers and ddil still hasn't sent those pictures. Today is dd's bday so I'd better go and tell her happy birthday.

Hello Crafters
Ginny - Wow - $5.00 is nothing for a beautiful pair of gloves that you didn't have to make yourself!! I bet she never makes them for herself I think you were smart to ask so you weren't inundated with requests At least that small amount of money helps with paying for the yarn, even though it doesn't cover your time. I'm glad you were able to get to some embroidery.
Ruth - Your weather sounds as erratic as mine is. It's really cold here today, I pulled out my heavy coat to wear when I went out for groceries and errands. The colors of yarn you picked sound pretty.
CONFESSION: I don't get the appeal of the fingerless glove I just think my fingertips would be cold like they are a lot of the time. I guess it's to help when you are doing something? You can feel things better or something like that? Or are they just a fashion thing?
When I was in JoAnn Fabrics the other day I saw that the Bernat Blanket yarn has some new color/designs. I like working with that large yarn.
The roofing guy was here this morning and he's put my house as a priority on their list. He said they have about a month and a half of work scheduled right now, but he'll move me up. He's also going to contact my insurance company and try to work with them. He thinks they might pay for the whole roof, I'd be happy with half. But I do appreciate his work on my behalf.
I was relieved to know I'll be getting the new roof soon. Every Winter and Summer for the last several years I've worried about the weather tearing off the roof, so it will be really nice this Summer not to worry about the thunderstorms we always get.
Ruth - I do plan to move from here eventually but since I don't know when it will be I just have to go ahead and get the new roof. At least that will be a selling point for me especially against all the negatives in this house that a buyer would have to accept.
I got a great deal on Bounty Paper Towels today at Target. They had the 8 pack of larger rolls for $9.79 and if you bought 3 of them then you received a free $10 gift card. That was like getting 24 rolls for about $19. So I'm stocked up for awhile.
Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both doing well today and getting in some crafting.
Take care everyone!
