We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

So the JA is outraged over the comments made at the Correspondents Dinner. Well, I think from what I have heard and read that the comments went too far as well, but he has only himself to blame. Evidently as with most hypocrites it is fine to trash other people when you're doing the trashing, but becomes a totally different scenario when it is someone else doing it. I have decided that Melania must have a cast iron stomach. There's not enough money in the world to make it worth it for me to spend anytime whatsoever with that man, and to be married to him?!? That would surely be hell on earth. I hope she thinks the pay-off is worth it.
From what I am reading, the general consensus seems to be that Michael Cohen will roll on the JA. I don't know, but maybe. So far he's been able to keep most of his band of merry men in line. I suspect with the hope of pardons and money down the line.
Jackson is just going to be in the WH medical unit and no longer the JA's personal physician. Guess when you turn out to be an embarrassment, you should feel lucky not to be kicked completely to the curb.

I loved Ana Navaro's comments on the hypocrisy about the outrage over the comedians monologue at the WHCD ...she basically asked where was the outrage from the right when JA was trashing Rosie O Donnall, Megan Kelly, Mika B. & many many others. They called the use of the P....y word as "locker room talk"... but now feign outrage over the use at this dinner. As I said before in another post, I wish they hadn't stooped to JA level, but they did & now have to take the criticism thrown at them even if it's hypocritical coming from the Right. As for SHS, honestly did not feel sorry for her. She stands in front of reporters & knowing lies & treats the press with utter contempt. But now of course she will be a "martyr" with tons of sympathy coming her way. JA encouraged both her & KAC to attend. He wuzzes out & sends 2 women instead. WHY!?!?...Probably because he has no respect for them either.
As for Melania, no sympathy there either. If you watch her facial expressions closely, I think she is feeling disgust over the JA standing next to her, but I'm sure she is trapped into staying for now. .I suspect a "YUGE" payout for her after JA is out of office. Maybe "The Fixer" aka Michael Cohn brokered a deal between her & JA. LOL

I didn't watch the Correspondents Dinner. However, I had no idea there even was a comment that would be considered "going to far" with the perverts, liars, cheaters, thieves, soulless and heartless, thugs who are stinking up the White House these days.
Here's some words of comfort that might help those poor injured little snowflakes deal with such harsh and outrageous comments...
Payback is a bitch. What goes around comes around. You reap what you sow. Karma hunts you down. You get back from the Universe what you put into the Universe.

I like Ana Navarro. I don't always agree with her R politics, but I like that she is not afraid to stand up and speak her mind regardless of where the chips may fall. She's intelligent, and speaks frankly. I like that.
As for Melania, I agree she's expecting a BIG payoff, and frankly, she has earned it. It would really be interesting to see their pre-nup, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Cohen didn't broker a "special" arrangement before the election for her, Ivana, and Marla.

Didn't Melania's mother ever tell her that marrying for money is a tough way to earn a living? We like and respect Ana Navarro also, she stands up for what she believes and always has intelligent comments.

Why is a comedian held to a higher standard then the President?

At first I was upset that a woman (Fox) was attacking another woman (Sanders) then DH said "that is your humanity speaking". Good man he!
Good article looking at the other side of the coin.
"Let me tell you a few deplorable things that happened in America this weekend. Nearly 43 million people woke up in poverty in the richest country in the world. And 3.2 million Americans woke up without health insurance. A further 36 people died because of gun violence, bringing the total number of gun deaths in the US this year to 4,627.
All of that is deplorable. What is in absolutely no way deplorable or shocking or outrageous or unacceptable is a joke about eye shadow. You probably know what I mean â it was headline news on Sunday. But if you missed the controversy, the summary is that a comedian called Michelle Wolf made a gag about Sarah Sanders at the annual White House correspondentsâ dinner in DC.
âI think [Sanders is] very resourceful,â Wolf said about the White House press secretary. âLike, she burns facts, and then she uses the ash to create a perfect smoky eye.â
Wolf was referencing Sandersâ well-documented history of defending Trumpâs brazen lies. Earlier this month for example, Sanders defended Trumpâs racist claims that women from Central America are raped at âlevels that nobody has ever seen beforeâ. She also justified Trumpâs entirely unfounded claims that âmillions and millionsâ of illegal votes are cast in Americaâs elections by saying that the president âstrongly feelsâ that is the case. Sanders lectures the press about accuracy but spends her days helping Trump fuel racism and hate with shameless lies. Sanders, in brief, is a morally bankrupt person and Wolf was holding her to account. Since when did 'perfect smokey eye' become an insult, America? "Sanders may be a morally bankrupt person but guess what? Sheâs also a wife and mother and it is really very mean for Wolf to stoop so low as to mention Sandersâ eye shadow. Can you imagine the devastating psychological impact of having a comedian reference your affinity for a smoky eye? Can you imagine how damaged her kids must be by the reference to their mumâs makeup?"
Personally, I canât imagine any of this, but it seems plenty of other people can. MSNBCâs Mika Brzezinski, for example, tweeted: âWatching a wife and mother be humiliated on national television for her looks is deplorable. I have experienced insults about my appearance from the president. All women have a duty to unite when these attacks happen and the WHCA owes Sarah an apology.â
Maggie Haberman, the New York Timesâ White House correspondent, similarly tweeted: âThat @presssec sat and absorbed intense criticism of her physical appearance, her job performance, and so forth, instead of walking out, on national television, was impressive.â Haberman made sure to tag Sanders in the speech so that the press secretary would be sure to know just how outraged she was. Andrea Mitchell from NBC also tagged the press secretary in a tweet stating that an apology is owed to Sanders.
Insulting someoneâs appearance is never a good look, no matter how awful a person they may be. But nothing in Wolfâs routine could possibly be construed as âintense criticism of [Sandersâ] physical appearanceâ. And absolutely nothing in Wolfâs routine demands an apology to the press secretary.
If anything, the likes of Haberman, Brzezinski and Mitchell owe America an apology. Theyâre all incredibly smart women with extremely important jobs. Theyâre supposed to be holding power to account, not sucking up to it. Rushing to defend Sanders under a veil of faux-feminism is beneath all of them.
Whatâs more, urging Wolf to apologize for what should have been an uncontroversial joke sends an incredibly dangerous message. It suggests that itâs not OK to criticize the president and his people. And it lends credence to Trumpâs repeated claims that the mainstream media is out to get him.
Last week the US dropped two places in the Reporters Without Borders 2018 World Press Freedom Index, with Trumpâs continuous attacks on the media cited as a reason for the decline. We live in a very worrying time for free speech. Indeed, on Sunday it was reported that the US Department of Justice removed a section about the âneed for free pressâ from its internal manual. Now more than ever, journalists need to be courageous.
The media needs to make sure it is speaking truth to power, not kowtowing to the powerful. However, as Wolf mentioned in her speech, even the liberal media is under Trumpâs spell. âYou pretend like you hate him, but I think you love him. I think what no one in this room wants to admit is that Trump has helped all of you. Heâs helped you sell your papers and your books and your TV. You helped create this monster, and now youâre profiting off of him.â
Wolf is absolutely right. We all ought to do a lot more soul-searching about how weâre covering the Trump administration. That should have been the headline that came out of Wolfâs speech; not controversy about eye shadow.
Wolfâs words should have inspired introspection amongst the press, not a liberal backlash. So, please, spare me the faux feminist outrage about Sanders. It was just a joke. The response to it, however, has been no laughing matter. " ......Arwa Mahdawi

Serious stuff, Anne. How far we have fallen, and in such a short time. As for the jokes about SHS eye shadow (I admit to having made some comments about it too in the past--mine just weren't so public), there are far, far more important things in this world so I don't see making fun of her eye shadow as a big deal--no more so than someone's making a joke about the JA's hair, or Jay Leno's square face, or Obama's big ears, etc. It's just such a shame that the entire tenor of public discourse has deteriorated to the point that we overreact to harmless jokes about eye shadow while allowing bullying, denigrating people for their race, sexual orientation, flat out lying to the American people, etc. slide totally under the radar. Maybe that's the point. If we stand up and make a scene over eye shadow, then people become completely inured to the truly offensive things coming out of the mouths of this JA and his minions.

While this will be John McCain's last term, I hope he will make it the one that really counts--the one where he stands up to be counted and doesn't bow to the current GOP game plan of we've got to keep the JA's base happy no matter what the cost.

Honestly, when I listened to Wolf's comments about SHS, I thought at the time she said fat not facts. I didn't know til the next day she actually said facts not fat. So, I did take it at first she was going after her physically. Now, it makes more sense...LOL...Guess I need to clean out my ears.
I heard parts of McCain's memoirs today & the part about JA hit the nail on the head in the best way it could be said. I have a feeling he may be very near the end & the Breaking News will be he has passed away. JA was still attacking him at his Michigan rally on Saturday. JA just has no moral compass to know when to shut up about a dying man.
So, John Kelly calls JA an idiot. Who knew! LOL...The WH is leaking like a sieve lately. John Kelly turned into a major disappointment as far as I'm concerned. Wonder how many days he has left. Of course he says these reports tonight are all BS...ya, sure they are...WINK WINK!

What? A woman was made fun of because of her looks? Well, I never! Get out! What an outrage! Surely you jest. I guess there truly is a first time for everything. Has that ever happened before?
All these perfect, caring, concerned women coming to Sanders defense make me sick. Foolish things. Are they stupid enough to believe they haven't been mocked and ripped apart by the way they look, or how old they are? Honestly? Suck it up. It was a joke at an event that is held to tell jokes. We have the BIGGEST joke sitting in our Oval Office with access to nuclear bombs and we're in a tizzy because one woman pointed out that another woman looks like a raccoon? Come on, is there anybody out there that honestly hasn't already noticed that? I know, meow.
Obviously, the wimp who decided to skip the event can't take a joke either. That's typical bully behavior. Say and do what you want about anyone. Point out those tiny little specks in the eyes of others but when someone mentions the GIANT PLANKS in your eyes, you're outraged.
I remember the vicious, nasty, cruel things that have been said about First Lady Michelle Obama as well as First Lady Hillary Clinton. More mean spirited than they look like a nocturnal animal. Although I don't see it. I think raccoons are adorable.
BTW, whoever does Rachael Maddow's makeup should be fired because she does look like a raccoon with all that thick black gunk on her eyelashes. She looks so uncomfortable. I know they all have to wear makeup on TV but does it have to weigh down her lashes? Besides, she's a natural beauty. Leave her alone. lol.
