Typing on. My keyboard but its awkward—spent almost 3 hrs in quick care (an oxymoron for sure) as I sliced a chunk off the side of my thumb on my mandoline—was a stupid error I could have totally avoided had I used my brain instead of my impulsiveness! Great big bandage—thing bled like crazy three times as 3 differe t people rebroke the “damn” taking off bandaids, then gauze, the. Gauze again! Torture chamber but I will say the nurse. Who in the end did take care of it was Downright amazing. She gave me the tetanus also and I literally did not know she had the needle in me.
Makeing. French onion soup and never should have used the mandoline—food processor was so much better and easier.
So I am cooking it ton ight.
I walked one half mile—fast pace swinging arms—his orders—and iced and did my exercises and I am okay ton ight. Short walks gradually building up—no gym for now. Arm is better—more exercises for it. N o cracks,or breaks—thinks the bursa in shoulder is the issue—
Don’t eat too much too soon, JoAnne or stomach might be very stressed.

Did not do a formal walk today as I had to tend my garden this morning—pulled out snap peas that are spent, carrots that developed wrong and weeded. Cut kale, arugula and lettuce. Washed and stored all. Made my croutons for tonight’s soup, made vegan zucchini brownies and cleaned all up—then visited WW BF a d her DH in his rehab center which was so beautiful and so nice that it rekindled my faith in rehab facilities. Took her a ton of beet greens and other greens and one green tomato to fry tonight. Stopped and visited BF’s for an hour or so since we were on that side of town.
Tonight’s Fr onion soup was delicious—just had green salad with red wine vinaigrette. For dinner. Froze enough soup for two more meals.
Going to make my own kumbacha—got the Scoby from WW BF—need to get some distilled water.
No walk today but got 9000 steps in.

I hope the fact that JoAnne has not been here for several days is not because she is having trouble post surgery!
Seems everyone is MIA.
Still loping along with this crummy back issue—did manage to walk 2 mi yesterday but had to stop and do bridges 3 times to do it—that seems to make,t he QL calm down so I can walk pain. free for a while again ..
Had a massage and then. went and met with Jordan’s dr to get lab test results—he came up with an “above normal to high” allergy to wheat. So have to call him today and talk food allergy and label reading and see if we can fix his discomfort he feels after eating. Thinking I will ask him to keep a food diary for a week or two. I know they rely on processed foods so am sure he gets a ton of wheat product. My biggest tomato is turning red—-yay—and a couple others starting as well. The beets are actually developing! I started my own homemade batch of kumbacha —WW BF has been doing this for two years—best way to easily get probiotics daily. DD will start up once I have a good starter for her.

Hi! Can't believe it's been so long since I last posted. The week just flew, dreary rainy week, and is still rainy today. Did my usual volunteering day, going to gym. Went through a huge pilie of papers and filing.
Went out to early dinner Thurs night with ex partner and wife (who borrowed some of SO's paintings). They have concert subscription so we have early dinner with them occasionally. This time one of their friends, who is a violaist in the orchestra, joined us for dinner, it was fun. We went to a famous vegan restaurant that I haven't been to in quite a few years. I liked it but it's not a great as all the critics' reviews of it.
Jojo, hope you can eat some more solid foods by now and recovering well. I did learn a lot on the bus tour, it was very interesting, glad we did it!
Joan, omg, I've sliced my finger with mandoline before, last time was at the restaurant where I interned, so embarrassing, I was so mad! Your garden sounds wonderful.
Last night we went to 65th birthday party for friend from the office. There were a lot of people from the office there, as well as their friends that we have met throughout the years from other parties that they have held. It was a lot of fun to see these people. Decided that it's been far too long that the "girls" in the office have gotten together. Last time we had a potluck I was still working there. So much has changed there, sad. A lot of them talking about how much better when SO was in charge.
Hope Holly is ok

Sue, now that you said that, I remember when. you did that to your finger! Taking the dressing off this afternoon. and hope it is good enough for just a light bandaid to protect it from bumps.
Just made my white kidney bean kale soup and fresh hummus—I so love the homemade roasted red peppers in my hummus! Just finished it. Will serve cut veggies and hummus instead of salad I decided. Have to get busy and cut jicama and peel my rainbow carrots and slice them.. N ice to hear from you Sue!

Good Morning Friends! I decided not to go to church today but DH Went on by himself. I just don't want to be around a burnch of people yet. Maybe after I go back to the surgeon. I am having problems swallowing which is discouraging. Sleeping a little better last night. I take a walk around the yard a couple of times a day. I have lost about 6 lbs. but that is allright since I had gained before the surgery.
Watched the Royal wedding yesterday. Thought the service was beautiful and so was Meagan (and Harry). So sad to think that many yrs. ago Harry's great great uncle had to abdicate for marrying for love! and now it is accepted. They said that the Queen evidently finally accepts it when she saddly looks back at her 3 divorced childred - afterall, she married for love. Then I was thinking about Victoria with her arranged marriage - she was so blessed to deeply love Albert so much! Last night I watched a commentary on Elizabeth's reign.
Before my surgery, my Keurig machine stopped working and I purchased a Nespresso. Absolutely love the coffee. My youngest son has one and came to really enjoy it while visiting him. You do have to "get used" to the coffee though as it does taste "different". You really taste the coffee. It is strong but not bitter like the Starbucks. We have original line machine. It froths the coffee. I use cream in my coffee so I bought a milk frother to - now I can make lattes.
Sue - Good that you can see your former co-workers again. I still keep up with many of mine and enjoying seeing them so much. When I have gone back to our workplace, I too see soooo many changes and hardly recognize the place. The porcessess have change completely and it would take extensive orientation for me to go back to work there. Still glad that I am retired!
Joan - Wasn't it your thumb that you cut so badly! I know the healing has been difficult as you use your thumb for almost everything. Poor Jordon! A true wheat allergy is terrible - so restrictive! I don't know if I could do it - I guess you do what you have to do. Do they think he has Celiac Disease?
Holly - I am taking a break from making socks. Started on facecloths - bought a bunch of cotton. Also thought I'd do a shawl or two. Like the lacey ones called shawlettes that can be used as a scarf. How are you doing on your lace shawls? Saw that you are selling some of your things in consignment. So far I have only made what I cxan use or give away.
DGS 11 had his llth birthday party yesterday. I keep up with how long I have been posting here by his age. I began the Winter before he was born. Seems like a long time and many people that have gone away.
I decided update all the contact info that I have on my phone while I am a little more sedatary. It has turned out to be quite a chore but I think will be great when I get it done.

So good to hear from you, JoAnne! Sorry about the swallowing—such a touchy job —seems it is so easy to disrupt what we take for granted—makes you appreciate those babies learning how to eat solid food! My SIL’s mom was having issues but I think she is managing now—hoping to go visit her in the hospital today—DSIL went home Friday so I have not had an update as I don’t have his brother’s phone number (the one tending to her and the dad right now). There are. five brothers so they now will rotate coming to care for the dad and do the hospital treks and eventually get her home with some care from them. The dr was hoping to get her out of ICU by early this coming week. Will see.
So took the big dressing off but the dissolvable patch is stuck on—just left it on and put a large bandaid over it—I will give it another couple days and then let the shower water =hit it—I think it is supposed to dissolve off that way. It’s hard like a piece of plastic. No wonder it’s been so protected—like having a shell around it.
I have not watched the wedding yet—watched a little pre stuff. What a huge decision it would be to marry into that whole royal business and all the scrutiny and requirements . Watching The Crown series is a real education on how their lives are managed. JoAnne, Did you know that his uncle who married Wally Simpson was a Nazi sympathizer? They met with Hitler and he was ready to sell out to him — a part of their romance (my mom had sentimental romance notions about their relationship and the Crown pushing him out) that I never realized—he was pretty devious. There is a whole doc on Netflix about him and those connections during the war.
No big plan s for today—did a ton of laundry yesterday since I failed to get it done during the week. Need to go take a walk soon.
Had BF’s over for soup and bread last night—they really liked it—she makes my bread recipe but said it does not turn out like mine—so shared my tweaks with her. Ate on the new patio table—was so much nicer than my old set—this table is narrower and so much nicer for dinner conversation. Sold my old one this week for $160–a. really good deal but we used it for 18 years so cannot complain. It was glass top so I am thrilled to bid it good riddance!

So I noticed on FB that Holly is on her trip west with the family—wonder how she is liking it.
grilling portobello burgers now—visited DSIL’s mom—they put a pacemaker in her yesterday—she has a lo0ng recovery ahead.
Hope you are doing better JoAnne.

Had a better day today with swallowing. Took tiny bites and ate softer foods. Tonight I asked DH to make us some scrambled eggs with cheese. Tasted so. Pod and went down easily with small bites. It did seem that I was more tired and slightly more short of breath. Wondering if my blood count is down again. Will tAlk to him about it tomorrow.
Joan / no I had never heard that about his Nazi leanings ! Wow! Meagan has made it clear that although she is now a Duchess, she is American and proud of it. The people over there really seem to love her so far.
Glad your thumb is on the mend.
Hot here today but cloudy and dreary. Strange !

So glad to hear you were able to eat something, JoAnne. Let us know about the breathing. You have been through so much!
Rained here in parts of the city today—spotty though.
Made a stir fry with brown rice tonight—TJ’s had some nice fresh shiitakes in and I so love them in stir fry.
Finished the Mind-Gut Connection book—wow—am amazed. The things they are learning about the microbes in us and their impact on us are astounding=-=will be many new amazing things learned in the next few years regarding all this.
DH is liking the vegetarian diet plan. Which shocks me=—says he feels better and is sleeping better. We are eating no processed foods either.

Sitting on the patio after dinner out here—beautiful weather—this has been the nicest May in forever.
I made falafel pitas tonight. They were so good—my first time doing this. Made a dill cucumber yogurt sauce that DH loved—he ate extra falafels just dipping them in the sauce. I am so full—eating this way is so full of fiber that you really feel as tho you have eaten a lot.
Tomorrow having DD and her long distance guy to dinner—we are having the forbidden rice bowls as she wants to know how to do them. Must go in and prep my carrots, mushrooms and onions so that tomorrow is easy. Purple sweet potatoes already roasted. I found a recipe for chocolate pudding made with avocados and another one for cookies made with garbanzo beans—want to try to do those tomorrow just to see if the taste is good enough to make it worth the trouble.

Joan - I agree with the weather this Month. Although today it is dreary and cloudy.
Got up late today. Had a terrible nightmare last night.Dreamed that I was working at one of the hospital where I used to work and the person in charge asked me for my creditials. For some reason I had them in a notebook. I began flipping through it looking for them. I could not find them. Continued to flip through the notebook over and over. I was so afraid she didn’t believe I had them. Finally woke up in a sweat. DH said this was normal for how I loose things! To me , it was a nightmare! I’m sure there is some deep seated psychological meaning but to me it was a nightmare!
Hope your dinner tonight goes well tonight Joan. You are being so innovative with your meals . I wish I could. It seems when I try, I never have the ingredients I need unless I plan way ahead. I tried no processed foods for a while but we like the Stoffers Lasagna and chicken fetachini. Also we like store bought pizza. I used to make all this but have gotten lazy. That is about the only processed food we eat but I can’ seem to get away from it. Know it is not good for us. I have gotten where I don’t much like to go out to eat- just had rather eat at home where I know what I am getting.
Holly has had some beautiful pictures on FB of her trip. They are seeing so much! Wonderful that she can go with her parents.
Think I will take a long hot shower and wash my hair. Can’t wait for my hair to grow out some. I had it all cut off boy style so that I didn’t have to worry with it after the surgery. That part has been good but it makes me look a lot older and now I’m ready for it to grow. Will take awhile though. Hope I can be patient!

Forgot to say , I went to surgeon Tues. and had good report. My lung is completely expanded and everything is back where it should be. He feels the swallowing issue is related to extreme peristolisis in my esophagus. He called it a “nutcracker “ esophagus”. Said he noticed it in the barium swallow. Gave me a me to try which I haven’t started yet. Have another appt in 2 weeks. Says I can eat what ever I feel I can eat - so that is good.

Good news JoAnne!
Yes, I was hoping Holly would post us some updates about her trip and what she was seeing. Maybe she has not had wifi a lot.
Sue, did the purchase of SO’s art go through with the building being decorated in NYC?
Is SO still looking for a place that would include some studio space?
Need to get busy—did my walk first—1.7 miles pain free. Now will do a bit of cooking and do exercises mid morning. A good day pain wise so far—that would make 3 in a row! Record breaking.
No more weight loss but maintaining the 3 pounds down so far—without dieting at all—in fact I swear I am eating more food than ever before. This morning had about an ounce of purple sweet potato on arugula on homemade toast with avocado and sun seeds and a bit of chili powder mixed with olive oil on the side—and a teaspoon or so of almond butter. That’s a huge breakfast—and still I am not gaining. and am actually slowly losing. I am loving this—and yes, JoAnne, it takes way more planning and time shopping and planning to shop. Luckily being retired I have lots of time. I am making a meal list every time I cook I add on to it—figure eventually the brain will begin to just think this way and it will become easier with less studying. The falafel I made last night was just amazing. Will have leftover falafel for lunch and cannot wait.
For fun I will make the avocado chocolate pudding for tonight—will be an interesting attempt at a vegan dessert—DD is totally off dairy so it might be something she could enjoy if it tastes good—will see. I bought a big watermelon as back up dessert cause it might suck! LOL
The oddest thing about doing this is how good we both feel—never stuffed and heavy feeling—just full and satisfied. The lack of sugar craving is absolutely mind boggling since I have fought that like an addict my whole life. I love it. And no tracking—geez, I am feeling like I reached some wonderful afterlife—afterlife of a food addictive person!!
