Hi! Nice and sunny day here for a change!
I volunteered on Tues as usual. There is a woman there that turned out went to my same cooking school, slightly ahead of me. She was in the associates degree program. She just quit her hotel restaurant job, it was terrible - so is now volunteering. Fun to gossip and chat about the school.
Yesterday, the guy who was in charge of design before SO took over when he retired, came over with his wife to look at SO's paintings, and then we went out to dinner. It has been maybe 10 or more years since we last saw them. Can't believe how fast time goes by. He is 86 but very physically fit, mentally sharp.
Jojo, glad your lung is back to normal. Scary when you feel you can't swallow. I remember when your DGS11 was born!
Joan, so great that you are feeling good with the vegeterian diet. I love tzatziki sauce, i have never made falafels before. SO sent the paintings out and now waiting payment. He is constantly online looking for a new house.
I got my hair trimmed yesterday and will go back for a keratin treatment soon. Funny, walking around with SO last week, my hairdresser was outside the shop smoking and we stopped and I introduced him to SO. I like our neighborhood.

Hi all,
The trip is going well so far. It’s with my immediate family. We started out in Denver, then went through NM, AZ, and are now in Utah. I’m really looking forward to seeing the Tetons.
I have been picking the best of my pictures and posting them on Instagram and Facebook so I’ll have a back up in case something happens to my phone.
Hard to believe we’re still in the same country!
Hope everyone is well.

Utah is so full of National Parks and monuments—-so much to see there! where are you driving, Holly—that you know is where our cabin was—not too many miles from Bryce and Zion Nat Parks.
Forbidden rice bowls were a success tonight—had everyone build their own from a large variety of ingredients I had prepared—even DGS14 liked it which he came very nervous about. Made DD a bowl to take home to have for lunch at work tomorrow—she loved it.
Holly, did you see the Grand Canyon? We were showing our pictures on the big screen tv from our river raft trip down it a few years ago—such amazing sights and experiences there! You are seeing such a beautiful part of our country—-

Sue - it is amazing that you were still running into people that you know from school. School The school school Must be a very large one. So your SO did sell one of his paintings!? Great!
Joan and Holly - I agree . The northwest is beautiful as are Holly’s paintings!
My iPad has a very annoying feature that I must have created in some adjustments I did. But I cannot figure out what I did. Do either of you know how to get rid of every word I type being mimicked by voice from the computer!
Today turned out gorgeous. I have walked out in the yard several times today to enjoy the beautiful weather. Chicken and rice and mixed veggies for lunch today. Really want a glass of wine but don’t feel I’ m ready for it yet.

DH had that voice thing going on for a while and I don’t know what he did to stop it. Glad it did stop though! I went to a reset body rolling class this morning with my fav teacher, Sue. She had texted me that she was subbing for the piyo gal that took over when she quit doing it a few months ago—it was such a good class—I body roll at home but the guided one hour session is so good—felt really great after and a bunch of us including Sue went for coffee after—first time I’d seen the group in over a month!
I just made bread dough so it is rising—have to get started on the photo album for DGD17–want it completed before I go to bed and it’s a big job so thought I might as well be baking bread at the same time since I cannot be gone from home to do it. We ran out yesterday and we so enjoy that homemade slice every morning for breakfast.
I think DH will order a car today—he goes at 4 pm—-have been researching a step down from our minivan which is eight years old and now has 117,000 miles on it—I wanted to get to 200,000 but the car will not be available till fall most likely—it is the new Subaru Ascent—a medium sized SUV—three rows of seats but smaller than our full size Toyota minivan—$10,000 cheaper, and gets 26 mpg on the highway whereas we get about 18. It will probably be our last car as Subarus are known for 200,000+ miles and we probably won’t drive as much in these next ten or more years as we did in the last 8! Ii’ve been saving monthly quite a good amount so we can pay it off and have no payment—then I will sell the Toyota separately as I can probably get 10,000 at least for it—it is loaded so should sell easily. The Ascent is not even available for sale yet—only to view and sit in—which we did—and the first nine they get in in July are already sold. The guy thinks we can get one by October or a bit later. Which would allow us to get some more miles on the van.
My tomatoes are starting to color up—won’t be many days before I am eating caprese salad! The beets are growing fast now—thinking I will harvest the first several by next weekend and have our neighbors over for some nice roasted beets—she loves them but has never tasted them right from a garden. I have one jalapeno pepper almost ready to pick.
Holly was in Arches Nat Park—saw in Instagram—love, love that park!
Texted with Valerie a bit the other day—she is still traveling a lot but they love Maine. They have planted lots of garden.
Gotta’ go get busy—feeling so psyched about actually feeling good today!

Hi!
Back to rainy and dreary again. This has been the strangest winter/spring, with winter lasting so long. Well I'm not complaining about not having high temps/humidity yet.
Holly, glad you are enjoying the vacation!
Joan, my rice bowls sound similar to your forbidden rice bowls, I use brown rice instead of forbidden. I mix that with quinoa and sometimes bulgur or lentils and I saute/roast a bunch of different vegetables to put in it. But I do have a protein, chicken/beef/pork and I'm trying to do more salmon now. I haven't been doing organic tofu for awhile but just got some this week to start adding that again.
Good to hear Valerie is doing well. They did sell their home in DC right?
Jojo, the school is not so large, but somehow Philly seems like a small city sometimes. Sounds like you are steadily improving after the surgury.
Yesterday my sister and I with 2 younger nephews drove up to north Jersey for our cousin's daughter's 1 yr old birthday party. It was held at a condiminium complex's club house. So many people and a ton of kids running around. My 2 aunts their husbands as well as my cousins and their spouses were there. Nice to see everyone. But 6 hours total on the road, I was wiped out, hate long drives.

Sitting on the de clay enjoying the moderate and clear weather. Just got back from church and lunch. So good to be back in church services! Sitting outside helps me warm up - they keep the restaurants so very cold! Potatoe soup at lunch so went down well. Think I am going to stop eating bread- always have trouble with it except toast for some reason.
Sue the trip sounded fun. Did you cook any for the crowd?
Joan we had a suburb in the 80’ that both the boys drove after us. No telling how many miles. They called it tha “ Subee”.
Reading a good murder mystery about Savannah - “Savannah Blues “

Sitting outside on the patio—just ate my toast with arugula, purple sw potato wedge and avocado and raw sun seeds—I am so hooked on that for breakfast! It is so filling! Cut about 2 gal bags of baby kale and washed and spun it—DD is going to come get one of them as it is more than we can manage to eat before I have to cut again. Kale is doing so well this year. The tomatoes are turning fast—the celebrity has given me two very large ones and there are about six more almost ready. My Early Girl, a variety that does well here, has two almost ready—OMG, they are three times bigger than ever before—luckily my basil has finally started growing—seeing some caprese salad on the horizon. The heirloom is in a pot that is about 36 in in diameter—it is probably loaded with 50 tomatoes—and still blooming—luckily they take longer to ripen. So hoping they are really good. I am individually pollinating my cukes as it seems the bees are not getting the job done. I have two that are getting about 4 in long. Will use. them to make those freezer pickles. I have only five garlic but all are getting pretty good sized bulbs now.
Oh I bottled my kumbacha yesterday—it actually tastes really good—I hate the stuff you buy in the store—DD tasted it and was shocked as she does buy it—such a waste of money when it makes itself practically—just brew tea and let it sit with the scoby and voila, in ten days you have it. DH looked at the scoby and was turned off—it looks a little like brains! LOL
Worked literally all day and night on the photo journal for DGD17–still have about 8 hours of work ahead I would estimate—it will be a 45 page book—got the one year journal done—I made it really cute on shutterfly which is a really neat program but so many options you get sort of sucked into a long process—I have all but about six pictures placed on the pages which I last night realized I could do all and not manipulate them and then go back and arrange and embellish and do backgrounds, and labels. Documenting our 17 years with her is a job! It will cost about $100 to print this in hardback but other than giving her some money to help with Ailey in NYC that is her gift so not worried. I did want to buy two though—thought it would be nice for my coffee table and I could do the same for each kid—when I’m gone the mom’s could take them—not sure DH will think it worth that much money but...
DD had DGD14’s friends over for an early birthday party—she turns 14 on June 20 but they never get to have a party cause so many kids are gone and this year she will be in Houston for dance before that. The kids are all in a performing arts school—I guess it was really fun for DD—she said 13 of them played the piano, one played the ukulele and they all sang and danced and filmed each other and then showed it and watched themselves on Apple TV—wish I could have been there—so neat to think kids are doing that instead of staring at video games.

Hi!
Kind of relaxing day, puttering around the house. Gym closed early so I went earlier than I normally do. Prepping dinner, making burgers and oven fries, cole slaw. I havent had a burger in ages, I don't even remember the last time. Wanted to get one on our last cruise but never got the chance.
Jojo, no I didn't cook for the party, they had it catered.
Joan, your garden sounds wonderful! I'm not so crazy about store bought kombucha either, has kind of funky flavor. The photo journal is a great idea, they will definitely treasure it more the older they get, and one day they will be able to show it to their own kids.
There were fireworks last night, there is an annual Memorial weekend tall ships celebration - old masted ships - and fireworks over them every year.

At the dentist office and may have to leave conversation abruptly if they come to get me.
Joan- wish I had some of your tomatoes! Was just speaking to DH about how all the store bought ones have been terrible lately. Even those that look good! I understand how proud you must be of DGD14 and her friends! Agreed- watching them watch the electronics is no fun!

Hello everyone—-had a pretty exciting day—went to the doc for rehab exercises and then straight to the gym as he wants me to try starting up again—did the weights class—a little back soreness—icing now—but not bad. Tomorrow I will try pilates but I have instructions on how i have to modify stuff. Also he added in another exercise for me and told me to start walking again—so, maybe I’ll walk tomorrow and hold off on pilates till Tuesday—would probably make more sense.
I made caprese salad last night for dinner—so, so good—then I had the leftover pieces of tomato as caprese again for lunch and a couple good sized cherry tomatoes with dinner!
Last night I made a Martha Stewart recipe for beet greens that includes julienning some raw beet and sautéing it with the greens—oh my, it was delicious. Will do that tomorrow night again—I have such beautiful greens on these beets and there are lots of beets.
Was so fun to see my gym friends again today!
But today it started warming up—but hey I can’t complain as this has been the best May—last year was in the 100’s most of the month. I think it will reach 100 by tomorrow.
Started watching my first hockey game since we won gold at the Olympics that year—the G Knights have been a magical fix for Vegas—people everywhere have hockey fever like nothing I’ve seen here before other than the year we took the Final Four and beat Duke! Everywhere you go people are in their tee shirts—it reminds me of the year we were in Boston in the fall and we were at Legal Seafoods and it was before a Red Sox game that night—the place was a-buzz with everyone talking to everyone about the game—we were in the ATT store fixing a problem on our account when the game came on and everyone gathered around the big screen and were instantly a “group”. So funny.

Hi!
It seems we get 1 nice sunny day then 6 days or cloudy, rainy.
I volunteered Tues and Thurs this week. And last night one of favorite young staff came over for some drinks. She was trying to find ways to help SO get into social media, like instagram, for his art work. It was great to see her. She is no longer at the old company, she left before I did.
Jojo, how are you feeling these days? Can you eat regular solid foods by now?
Joan, glad you are doing well with the rehab! I'm so jealous, Flyers haven't won since forever!
Not much going on here this weekend, we have no plans.

So, Sue, I watched the rest of the hockey game and they lost—OMG I think I jinxed it. A friend of mine asked me not to watch again! LOL
Today I did my dance class and weights=-=I did okay and am icing my QL now but it is not bad. Yesterday it got pretty bad after a walk in the park—had to use my tens unit for about 40 min before I could go to the store. Was sort of depressed about it==but today is encouraging me again. Such a roller coaster.
We are having neighbor friends over for dinner tomorrow—she loves beets so having roasted beets and salmon over beet greens and caprese salad—treating them to my garden stuff. Sunday we see Hamilton—tonight may be cards with BF’s or a movie—heard that the movie Rider was just excellent and very beautiful to watch.
