Hi all,
I’m back from my trip and the conference. I am still processing everything. I can’t believe how much of a variety of things are worth seeing in this country. Desert, mountains, rock formations, geothermal activity...
I read more books than I have in the past year. I missed that. Work has just been so mentally draining that I haven’t had the ability to focus on reading. Thankfully, things are headed in a positive direction on that front.
Hope all is well. Jo Anne, have you gotten a ton of rain your way as well? It feels like a rainforest here.

Welcome back, Holly! Your trip was so encompassing! Wow, I was so impressed with your photos—I love the Rockies and the Grand Staircase—Now your family will have to do the west coast—you could start here and go to San Diego and up to Seattle!
What did you read?

Hi everyone, Yes Holly- lots of rain! The grass is green but fungus is setting in due to the hot weather and the rain. Glad you had a wonderful trip. You saw so Much!
Yes Sue - I am on regular food now but finding things that my system will not get along with yet! I had salad for two days and that was a mistake- GI upset! Swallowing is better. Surgeon appt. on Tues.
Today church, dinner out, and then to phone store toget DH switched over to my old phone. He had cracked the screen on his. The rep was really nice and took a lot of time with us - considering he did not make any money on us. Before we went in, I told DH , “you know they will try to sell us a phone - and he did. I also mentioned that we just got the Fitbit Ionic AND he wanted to know if I would like to consider the IWatch! What a strange thing to ask since I had said we JUST got the Fitbit! I guess they gotta try!
I discontinued my Netflix and subscribed to Amazon Prime which I ❤️.! Watched 3 movies yesterday..

Holly, I have started a lace shawlette. I find following the pattern of charts very difficult because the pattern doesn’t identify what part of the shawl you are working on. Have you made the “fonse’ shawlette” pattern on the knitpicks site?
Amazingly my wt has stayed pretty stable throughout all my ordeal of surgery and such. Thinking about lunch. Not very hungry- as it seems I never am- but must think about what I will make any way since DH ALWAYS is hungry. Think we will do steaks on the grill. Will stay away from salads for now- hope I can get over this sinceIi love salads!

Hi All,
Back to the grind. It’s taking some getting used to. My A/C is broken at home and they can’t fix it until Thursday. They charge double to come out anytime after 4 or on the weekend. Wish I could do that.
Jo Anne, I tend to avoid chart patterns. They are difficult for me to follow. I have a few shawlette patterns saved in Ravelry.
Joan, I read a book called The Last Ballad by Wiley Cash. He’s a local author here. It’s about the poverty of mill workers back in the early 20th century. I also read a book called A Piece of this World by Christina Baker Kline, who wrote The Orphan Train.

Holly, were the books good—which was best? Have you read Before We were Yours yet?
Saw Hamilton last night and , of course, loved it all over again—I so wish I’d bought another ticket to see it again! Vegas has it here either three or four weeks—all sold out—sole 65,000 tickets in a matter of just a few days on line. Audience went wild in it—it’s so fabulous—probably the best Broadway play I’ve never seen—there just isn’t a flaw in it. No slow point—it’s long and the times go by so fast you are just astounded that it’s over! I was so glad—-first time DH has said he wants to see it again for sure.
I did my dance class at gym—made it and did ice a bit after. Need to do my daily exercises yet. Making cinnamon rolls to take to Sacramento over the weekend for grad breakfast.
My photo book for DGD17 has not yet come—latest delivery they said would be tomorrow but so hoped it would come today—anxious to see how it turned out! Picked my big Armenian cucumber today—so will probably make a jar of pickles on Wednesday so they can cure while I am gone. Bottled second batch of kumbacha and will take a couple bottles with us. It’s getting up to 104º today—probably 108º downtown—we are higher elevation so always a little tiny bit cooler. Ugh!

Hi! It's been busy few days.
Today was volunteer day. Got to make 2 cookie doughs, although a young college student was helping me, and I wasn't paying total attention to how she was measuring things out and one of the doughs was too wet. Hope it turns out ok.
Fri night we went to first Friday gallery openings. Made a batch of scallion pancakes on Sat.
I've been doing stuff online for my parents, some research on getting someone to help my mom out in caring for my dad, some online purchasing for them.
Welcome back Holly! Sounds like you had a great trip. Always tough after something like that to get back into the structure of work. My sister's central air is down too, they have to do a major replacement. Thank goodness it has been cooler than usual here.
Jojo, how was your Dr appt today?
Joan, hope you got the photo book today. I'm sure it's fabulous.
I was supposed to go to a show part of an international festival of arts that take place here every other year with one of my Sue friends, but she might have broken her toe and probably can't go. I've been trying to find someone to take her place but everyone is busy. I'll have to go on my own, it's Thursday

Joan sounds like you have just about made a full comeback with all your exercise activities.
Holly- I don’ t know how you find knitting patterns without charts - I have never seen one. I am just following the written directions and the various charts and hoping it turns into what I hope!
My great niece came today and cut my back yard grass- This is the 2nd time she has done it for me since my surgery. It was truly a God thing that worked it all out. Right before the surgery I got a letter from her saying she was going on a mission trip to Haiti with her church and she would like to “hire out” to work for money to pay for her airline ticket. It was perfectly what I needed!
Went to the surgeon today and he discharged me. Swallowing issues seem resolved. I still am waiting to get an appt. at the hematologist as I am dragging and know the anemia is back.
