Good morning!
Mickey, wow RAIN! How exciting, especially when you were still getting it at 10 pm!!
NO CA is getting clobbered with rain! My DD and DSIL's town is getting flooding. I think DSIL is probably okay, but DD lives near where the flooding is. Nothing like you see on TV where the streets are flooded and houses are under water, but enough that some homes may be in danger of getting SOME water in the house. Going to be a problem for many of the streets.
Going to do the next batch of fudge this morning - and I WILL pay attention to the recipe this time! The chili turned out great last night and I was able to put two dinners worth in the freezer. We took one crockpot to the temporary bachelor #2 house and he had a young couple with a 5 year old there. They brought salad so we had a good meal and a really good time. I think today should be a quiet day!
I hope those in the deep freeze stay warm today. Will be interested to hear if Mickey is still getting rain!
Have a great day ladies!

Good morning,
Never went out at all yesterday as it was just too cold and windy. But we had some sun in the morning and then got very cloudy by afternoon. Bailey hates this weather but Bridgette would stay out all day if we let her! So when Fred takes them out Bailey does her business right away and runs back inside to get under the blanket on the sofa and then realizes Bridgette didn't come in with her so she goes into our bedroom and watches from the bed to see when she's coming in and then goes to the door and once Bridgette gets in the chase begins! I have to try to see if I can get Bailey in to see the vet today as all night she was digging at her ears and shaking her head so none of us got much sleep. I looked at her ears and didn't see anything but I don't have anything to see deep inside and want to get it taken care of before it gets worse.
Got the sheets washed for both beds yesterday and got dusting done in hard to reach areas. Today washing our bed sheets and towels. Will wait until tomorrow to clean the bathroom and get the rest of the laundry done. Then all we'll need to do Sunday is clean the sheet and blanket that is for the dogs on the sofa and clean the floors. It would be a waste to do them too soon as they track in mud every time they're out.
I started feeling like I'm catching a cold so started using Zicam remedy for colds yesterday to see if I can nip it in the bud. My daughter told me about it last spring. You swab the inside of the nose with it when you first start feeling a cold coming on and it's worked before so hope it works again.
Nancy all the goodies you have in your house are my absolute favorites, especially Harry and David!
Linda I would like to join your FB group but I think since it's a closed group you have to invite me?
Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning Petites.
It isn't light yet, so I can't read the rain gauge. But other than a few wet tiles that always keep water a little longer than the others you can't tell it rained. The TV weatherman put up a Tweet asking people to let him know who around the city was seeing any moisture. That will give you an idea of how it usually rains here. Any significant rain that might come happens in the summer during "monsoon" season. We've heard stories about major storms that fill the washes and cut off neighborhoods, but they are few and far between.
SandyIL: Getting ready for major company is always such a chore. Last year we had out of town guests on short notice 3 times between Thanksgiving and New Year's. But I know you are eager to see the family. Yes, get Bailey's ear looked at. I'm taking Mika to the vet today to have him look at a skin problem. But of course this morning it isn't very evident. I may also spend the money for an xray of her lungs. She has gained more than a pound since she was so sick and she is eating like a horse (I wonder if horses eat a lot) but I worry it is fluid building up again. Your invitation to the FB group will come from me shortly.
Joy: Ho ho to not reading the recipe thoroughly. That's my trick. I either add things that should be added at the end or don't see the "divided" clue that not all of an ingredient goes in at the same time. Hope the new batch comes out perfect. And good plan to gift the other batch as ice cream topping.
I forgot to pay some bills yesterday and also forgot to relock the gate to the back yard after the bug guy left. I awoke at 4:45 worrying about those things. Mika wasn't even up yet! She was curled in the receipt box I keep behind my computer, which I also forgot and left on last night. I suppose it was warm there. Well, I've taken my BP and am ready for my coffee. I'll check in later.

Good morning! It was 13 degrees when I got in the car this morning, but the wind isn't blowing so it's not that bad. Good news is sun is shining! Forecast says temps in 50's for Sat. and Sun. This is my last day of work until Jan. 3! Woo hoo!

Well back from the vet's and she has a yeast infection in her ears but he put an ointment in them that only is applied once so I don't have to do anything with it and then gave me an antibiotic BUT in checking her over discovered she has cracked both of her back teeth from chewing on hard bones. One you can actually see the pulp and is getting infected so she is scheduled for dental surgery December 27. He will try to save the teeth and will take X-rays before starting. If he doesn't have to pull the teeth the charge will be $325 as he will clean the teeth but if he has to remove teeth it will be $500. So threw away her hard bones. He said Menards has dog bones made by Nerf which he buys for his dogs and said there is a softer Nylabone that has give to it. He even said dental stix would be okay too just no kind of bone that has no give to it. So I'm glad she had this ear problem so the tooth problem was discovered as if that infection in the gums had been left unchecked we would have had major problems. The vet who checked her is new to the practice and I loved him! Bailey not so much but she was very good during the exam which surprised him as he found a lot of blood in one ear which would have been extremely painful.
Sharon I've done that with fixing oatmeal. It wouldn't get creamy and clotted so fast and I kept telling myself must be bad oatmeal and read the box and had reversed the water and oatmeal!

Good morning Petites. I am just now eating breakfast since I got out early in case I needed to go to Walmart. Thankfully, the smaller Food Lion had the 5 things on my list which the larger Food Lion didn't have yesterday. So yay! No Walmart! Quick in and out and I was back home in 20 minutes. When I got home! I found the package from the financial group that I expected to contain treats that I'd have to give away. This year, it is a plant! So much better! However, I did buy what I need to make fudge, but I know I can give most to the family. I'll start cooking and fixing as soon as I finish writing this post.
Joy, hope your DD and DSIL will not be flooded out by the heavy rains. I know CA needs rain, but it doesn't need to come all at once! Has yours stopped?
Mickey, glad you had a little moisture. Hope Mika isn't filling with fluid again. And a friendly reminder to please slow down! It sounds like you are back in your old habits already.
Sandy, I am sorry Bailey has the ear infection as well as a dental problem. I don't give Cricket hard bones because she doesn't seem to like them. At 12, she's never even needed a cleaning. I give her Greenies which seem to work well for her. I had to laugh about Bridgette loving the cold. It must be a beagle thing! This one has been out 3 times already today! Sounds like you have a good plan for preparing for your family next week. My DD comes tonight but has to leave Sunday.
Glenda, it does feel balmy without that awful wind! When I took C out at 9 last night after the wind had died down, we just stood and enjoyed the normal cold. She looked up at the night sky and sniffed and was happy. Yay to being off until Jan 3! Come by tomorrow and see the family!
Off to make corn chowder and white chili and gingerbread and brownies and fudge. I'll clean while things are baking and/or cooking. Two more gifts arrive that need to be wrapped too.

A little ways through making the corn chowder, I realized I had forgotten to buy 1/2 and 1/2. Luckily, one of the stores I went into yesterday is a stepsister to Food City where I used to shop in TN, and it is very close by. So I went there quickly and got the 1/2 and 1/2. So now the chowder, gingerbread and brownies are done and cooling before I refrigerate the chowder for tomorrow and cut the desserts. I may make the fudge later. I just heard a beeper which means the white chili is now done and ready to cool off as well. I made it for DD and DSIL in case they don't eat dinner before they get here. If they don't want it, I know I will eat it next week. I got small NY strip steaks and salad and baking sweet potatoes to have for dinner tomorrow night if they don't want to go out to eat somewhere. Not sure we will be hungry until later in the evening after the big meal at noon.
So I am hot and tired and ready for a cup of tea before I tackle any cleaning. Most is done. Just want to give the guest bathrooms a wipe-round and dust a bit. The Roomba can work later on, and I'll Swiffer the rest where she can't reach. No need to be perfect though with that many people coming!

Home from the vet. The regular vet was bitten the face by a pit bull type aggressive dog and needed stitches. The woman filling in for him was the vet who first diagnosed Mika's CHF. She was happy to see how well Mika had done these past 3-1/2 years. Mika has a twice daily inhaler for her feline asthma that is a steroid. That makes her more susceptible to fungal diseases. They took some samples of her fur (pulling it out by the roots, ouch) and gave me a variety of treatments to give her until the culture comes back in 2 weeks. A full shampoo for a bath (have to leave it on for 10 minutes), a spot treatment, and a mousse that doesn't need to be rinsed off for every other day. Yikes. She's going to hate me. If the culture is positive, the treatment has to go on for 4 to 6 weeks. Sigh. She doesn't have many symptoms. I'll keep my fingers crossed that 2 weeks is all I need to do.

Linda, your trees looks beautiful. Love the blues mixed in. I do that too. Hope the weather has improved there.
Mickey, sorry Mika has to go through so much, which means you have to go through so much too. What we don't do for these fur babies! Hope she won't need treatments for long.

Hi again!
Oh no to the the furbabies who had to go to the vet today!
Sandy, will keep my fingers crossed that the medicine does it's work in Bailey's ears and that she doesn't have to have those back teeth pulled!
Mickey, uh oh, to what you have to do for Mika! I don't know how we would even get one of ours into a bath! They are twice/three times the size of Mika and would not take it well if we tried to put them in a bath! LOL! It's bad enough trying to give them oral meds the couple of times they've had UTI. So much for your rain, I guess! Pretty funny over all the fuss, but when you never see rain, it's a big deal!
Glenda, TGIF!! And no school until 2017! Yay! Enjoy your time off and some visits with Nancy! How's the knee doing?
Nancy, oh my to having to go out for half and half part way through the recipe! I went to Longs THREE times yesterday to get something I 'forgot'!! Or discovered I needed, ha ha. Longs has a grocery section - not much in there - but if they have what I need they are cheaper than the high priced market we have in the village. I did go to the market too and, much to my surprise, they had some baking items I needed on sale! Yay! I'm so excited for you that DD arrives today! Everything you have planned sounds so good!
Linda, good idea to stay in and rest up for DS. I've forgotten - is he coming this weekend?
My only real plans today is to make the chocolate fudge again, paying strict attention to the details, ha ha. DH wants to go sit down on the cliff this afternoon if the weather cooperates. The whales are back and we want to go look for them.
Waving HI to everyone else! Have a good day!

Good Afternoon, Petites! Morning got away from me! We have rain too! Thanks, God! We can use it and the snow pack in the mountains is looking good too! Joy, sounds like you are busy cooking too! We did a little shopping this morning because I wanted to make some Snow Peak convections for my cookie plates to take today and Sunday to neighbors homes we are going to for get togethers... Please send me some more will power mine has left today! I hope your DD is OK where the flooding is. Sandy, I hope the cold doesn't show up - good idea to start taking the Zicam right way when you feel like you are coming down with one. Sorry to hear Baily has an ear infection and Dental problem. Hope he feels better soon! Mickey, too funny about the rain there in AZ - Bob and I did experience a Monsoon storm that filled the streets and the washes there - thought for awhile we weren't going to be able to get back to our RV without swimming to it! Hope you get enough rain so that you can call the radio station and report it! I'm so glad to hear that Mika is feeling so much better and gaining weight! Glenda, I'm doing the Happy Dance for you - enjoy the last day of work! Nancy, Enjoy your fun day of cooking today too! it all sounds delicious! On to a good afternoon, Everyone!

Thanks Nancy. My tree skirt is probably 35 years old. I've always tried to mix some blue in with my Xmas decor. Brian gave me a blue Santa one year many years ago which I still have. This pic actually is a few years ago but it doesn't look much different this year. When we lived in Ct I use to drive up to Sturbridge every few months. I think there still is a catalogue these days. I was very much into the country look back then & sometimes still find myself falling back into that look. Warm & cozy 😉
