We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Happy Memorial Day to you all! Any big celebrations planned? Today DH and I are celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary. Those 24 years have flown by at warp speed. No "big" celebration is planned this year. We'll probably just go out to eat, maybe to a movie (I want to see Book Club), and whatever else appeals to us on the spur of the moment today.
Linda, hope you enjoyed DGD's graduation and party yesterday.
Today I'm going to try to stay away from the news as much as possible, and focus on the good things.

Happy 24th Anniversary, Joyce! Hope you find lots of fun things to do today. I've seen ads for the Book Club movie. Looks like a good one.
Well, Graduation has come & gone. We did enjoy our day yesterday. DGD was awarded about $9500 in scholarships from clubs & businesses in her area. .... ( shameless Grandma Brag! ) She also placed 3rd at the ND State Track Meet in Pole Vault the day before Graduation. So it was a very busy weekend for her.
It is raining here, so, it will be a much needed lazy day doing absolutely nothing around here.
Take a moment to remember all who have sacrificed for the freedom for all of us. Especially the freedom to express ourself openly & freely. The 1st Amendment it under attack from the JA in the WH & we all need to do whatever we can to not let him prevail with his constant lying & treasonous ways!
ENJOY your day!

Joyce, thank you for those kind words yesterday. Right back at you, Sistah. Congratulations on your anniversary! Focusing on all good things is a wonderful way to celebrate. What a great idea. Linda, congratulations on all the good things your DGD has accomplished! She's earned all the love and praise you have to give. Her family and friends must be so proud of her. Her cyber Aunts are also very proud. Linda, when you said you were having a lazy day I thought about how busy you'd be all year round if you lived in a warmer climate. Imagine never having to deal with bitter temps, ice and snow? 12 months of warm weather and sunshine? Potting and planting and planning beautiful things all the time? Your place would be on the cover of Garden Gate magazine! lol. Today I do honor all those that died for this country. I remember the heartache and grief their family and friends still live with. I remember all those that lost parts of their body, souls and spirit for this country. I will never take those brave men and women for granted. I'm proud of them and honor them with all my heart. Every Memorial Day a group of volunteers visit a National cemetery here on Long Island and place an American flag on each and every one of those graves sites. I'm grateful for them too.

Pat, I could never imagine 12 months of gardening at my age. I'm just getting plain worn out! LOL..I used to get The Garden Gate Magazine along with Birds & Blooms. They always had such beautiful pictures & ideas. I'm pretty much a " fly by the seat of my pants" gardener. No plan, really & half the time I don't remember the names of the flowers I planted. Here in ND we plant around Memorial Day & it usually takes til middle of July for things to be in full bloom. By September we have frost, usually, so it's a short growing season here for annuals.
Thanks for your kind words about DGD. She lives in a small rural town & has been a great role model for all the younger girls & boys. I'm blessed to be her Grandma.
My Dad ( Navy WWll ) & Mom are buried in the ND Veterans Cemetary. Every Memorial Day, volunteers put flags on the graves & at Christmas they place wreaths. The cemetary over looks the Missori River & way in background you can see the lights of The Prairie Nights Casino. My Dad loved fishing & gambling, so besides being a Vet, what perfect resting spot for him...:-):-)

Linda, how wonderful for your DGD!!! We are all so very proud of her! She is amazing, and I for one am looking forward to hearing about all the things ahead that she is going to enjoy and accomplish. It's the kids like your DGD that give me hope for our country. Clearly we have made a mess of things, but I trust that her generation can undo what the JA is destroying.
P.S. By the way, there is no such thing as a "shameless Grandma Brag." Grandchildren are meant to be loved and enjoyed, and one of the best parts of that enjoyment is sharing their accomplishments with your friends. We love hearing all about each one!

I may not be here much this week as I'm babysitting the DGKs (which I love doing!). They are out of school for the summer, but the summer program DD has them signed up for doesn't start until June 4. DGS is at a baseball camp this morning so I am also providing taxi service. So happy I am here close to them so I can do these things.

I agree about Roseanne. I'm glad her show was cancelled. Maybe it will be a lesson not just to her, but also to others. We all know racism exists, but it has no place in our society. When you have a platform such as Roseanne was given, you have a responsibility to use it carefully and well. I"m glad that ABC isn't going to allow her rant to go unpunished. If only we could do the same with the JA and his vile tweets.

I for one, am so sick & tired of apologies after the fact after racist tweets! These people knew exactly what they were doing when they said it! I wonder how Roseanne now feels since her tweet resulted in the cancellation of her show. Look at all the people now out of work because of her one stupid ignorant tweet. Actors, writers, set decorators, sound, makeup, directors, etc! Of course, i’m Sure JA will call her & tell her everything is ok, not her fault but ABC’s . I couldn’t stand her before & even more so now! UGH!

I agree, it's only a "joke" if they get splashback from it. No -it's racist, sexist, and any other "ist" - it's just rude.

Who knew that taking Ambien could cause racism? Give me a break!!!! What makes me more angry than Roseanne's vile tweets, however, is the people who defend her. Disgusting! And Fox wants to say that ABC is trampling on her First Amendment rights. Hypocrisy once more at its finest and the people at Fox are masters of hypocrisy. So evidently the First Amendment protects Roseanne's racist comments and her employer ABC has no right to cancel her show, but the First Amendment does not protect football players taking a knee and their employers the NFL has every right to punish them if they do. Can those blind followers of Fox truly not see the hypocrisy, or is it that they see it but just don't care? A "friend" on a FB thread I participate with this morning was spouting the same hypocritical line. I just didn't post, because she's not going to see things any differently. She normally doesn't post anything political, but the JA and his supporters are becoming ever more emboldened to spread hate and venom all around.
On another note, the DGKs will be here any minute. They brighten my day and make me temporarily forget about all the ugliness out there.

nashville11, have a great day As far as ambien, I saw a commercial the other day that had me going "huh?" -it said the meds caused compulsive gambling, and I googled it and sure enough: time.com/4317182/abilify-aristada-aripiprazole-sex-gambling/FDA Warns Antipsychotic Drug Can Cause Compulsive Sex and Gambling Not that I buy the Ambien caused her to show her racist side, but meds do some weird thing!

JA NEVER apologists for anything he says or does, but, by golly, he expects ABC to apologies to him for all the negative things they report about him... Well, JA, Good Luck with that!
Great point about FOX & first amendment, Joyce! Hypocrisy at its best! Have fun day with the grandkids today. When mine were little they loved playing cards, crafting, playing games in back yard. Anybody remember Polly Pockets? Many years ago I collected them & have a huge bin full. Grandkids loved playing with those teeny tiny people in their special little cases. When they left, I usually ended up vaccuming up a couple Polly's. They just got lost in carpet. I still have them all & told the 2 Grandaughters they could divide them up someday & they could save them for their kids. They both loved the Polly Pockets & playing with them when they stayed here. Great memories!
Hot & Humid here today.
