We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Whoa! We're heading into the middle of June already! How did that happen so quickly?
Nothing really new going on. The toddler in the Oval's tantrum continues. Wish someone would put him in a time out! It's anybody's guess what will happen in Singapore.

With Dennis Rodman in Singapore now, we can all rest easily. Seriously, I do hope this meeting will go well and good things will come of it. I just don't have a lot of faith in that happening, but I truly hope I will be proven wrong.

luanne, that version is definitely a more accurate presentation of what they all must have been feeling. LOL!

Before this summit, it was anyone's guess what might happen. After the summit, it's anyone's guess what did happen.

Ha! Big farce as far as I'm concerned! JA got his photo op, ... Kim Jung Un got his. Trudeau is a dishonest liar & Kim Jung Un is a "talented man" & it "was an honor to meet him"....oh my! ...JA intentionally blew up the G-7 by being late & throwing temper tantrums because he was tripping all over himself to get to Hong Kong for a photo op he thinks will win him the Nobel Peace Prize! ...

ND voting today. Had to vote straight party line, which normally is not a problem for me, but Heidi Heidkamp has been a little to cozy with JA for me. Running ads touting what a conservative she is. ND is a Republican state, so, I understand why she is doing what she is, but I don't like it,. Yes, I voted straight Dem ticket. The Republican she is running against is Cramer a complete ick in so many ways! He is PO'd because JA is promoting Heidi H. & not him. UGH! Heidi could just as well put GOP after her name since she seems to side a lot with Republicans. Selling out to be a Senator doesn't make sense to be, but that's the state of politics these days! No one was running against Heidi for Dem slot.

Trump made the comment that Kim Jung Un's people "love" him. Yeah, I get. If they don't publicly show love, they most likely get jailed, or killed. I've been reading opinion pieces today and the bottom line in is, although the meeting was symbolic, there needs to be substance, and we don't have that yet. Trump seems to think the deal is done, but there is much more work, and North Korea has backed down on these agreements in the past.

The problem with trying to do any sort of deal with NK is not just that we can't trust them to stick to an agreement, but we can't trust the JA to stick to an agreement either. So no matter what is ultimately "agreed" upon, there's no guarantee that either party will stick to it or that they ever even meant to when they made the agreement. What a conundrum! I have absolutely no faith in either side, and I don't think the rest of the world does either. Never before, no matter who was in office, have I felt that we can't trust our own government, but I do feel that way now. I may not have agreed with the party in power, but I trusted that they at least thought they were doing what was best for the country. Now I don't think the JA does anything other than what he thinks is in his own best interest or whatever strikes his fancy at the moment. I no longer trust that the Rs in Congress have the best interest of the country at heart, as they have clearly sold their souls to try and stay in power; and, to be honest I have to admit that the left side of the aisle isn't completely pure either. What a sad time it is for our country.

Nike refuses to supply Iranian players with cleatsYou know, I disagree with this. World sporting events should NOT be the stage for political crap. These players do not make government policy. These sports events are a time for countries to come together and share some peace, not for this sort of B.S..

I agree with you, DotRen, sports should be something that helps bring us together and should not be used for political agendas. Unfortunately, we're see this happen more and more whether it's Nike's stand with the cleats or the brouhaha over kneeling.

So North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat, and we are all much safer than the day the JA took office. Right! There's a really nice bridge in New York I can sell you too.

So, Mark Sanford, " pokes the bear" & loses his Senate seat. Way too many many people drinking JA's kool-aid & that is more scary to me than JA himself. Someday ( hopefully soon) he will be history but the people who have jumped on his band wagon will still be around spreading hate in all areas for generations! He gave them permission to do so & the Republican Leaders & Congress did nothing to curb the hate! Just decided to retire instead of poking the bear. Corker ranting about "poking the bear" means nothing when he chooses to retire. Jeez get a spine & stand up united to the JA !!!! Talk is cheap, actually doing something takes courage. Democracy is so worth it. In the blink of an eye it can be gone with someone like JA in the WH!
