Tree people just finished doing some pruning around house of limbs over roof and cutting Ivey away from trees around perimeter of backyard. So glad to get this done. The Ivey was beginning to kill some of the trees- had to get it off.

Jo Anne do you have to do all that by yourself—is your DH not able to help with groceries and such? It seems as though you work so hard physically all the time.So did you have to give up on groceries because of breathing problems—shortness of breath or what?

DD and the DGS’s are stuck in Atlanta with torrential rains I guess—planes were grounded—they were to get here by 5:00 and now predicted in at 8:30–wow—wondering what you are getting, JoAnne. I will be picking them up at the airport.
I did my dance class today—over the past few days I had an inspiration for a poem about our gym teacher and all the things she constantly “teaches” us while we are dancing, or weigh lifting, or doing yoga and pilates—It’s kind of funny—so I wrote a letter honoring her and on the back wrote out the poem—gave out copies today—OMG, my gym teacher laughed so hard she cried—I am giving them out in all her classes—all the ladies in dance today were like, yep, that’s the way it is. It was fun. Had no trouble with my back in dance today but it was just too hot to walk this morning—I am probably going to have to resort to the tread mill until later in August—it appears the evenings are not going to cool off for a while now . Hate that time of year here. Guess giving up a month and a half isn’t too bad—the rest of the year it is perfect for walking.
Making oatmeal cookies and almond biscotti so I can freeze tonight and pack up as a care package tomorrow to mail to DGD14 in Houston.
Practically rebuilt the back of a dress today for DGD17–she only shops at thrift stores so often will see something she loves but it’s damaged—then I get to do the repairs—this one was the worst tho—almost entire full length zipper was torn apart and some damage on the neckline as well. Looks really good now tho—she has an eye for this—her grad dress was only $4 and was darling.

Hi! Big heat wave coming here. It's been unseasonably cool for this area lately so I'm not complaining. Last week was so hectic with our short trip to NYC, I'm still recovering, lol. We did a ton of walking. Went to the Whitney on Fri
We came home Sat and right away I had to get ready to go to a show with my sister and BIL. They invited me to Men are from Mars Women from Venus show (SO did not want to go, so I got one of my HS friends to come), along with another couple - friends of my sister. Afterwards, I suggested a place for dinner, it was fun. The wife of the other couple is a HS friend of my sister's so my friend also knew her.
Our last night in NYC we went to a trendy restaurant called The Dutch, it was good.
I've been catching up on house chores, food prep, Tues morning did my usual volunteering. Today I got a keratin treatment.
Jojo, hope your breathing is better. You have had so many medical issues this year!
Joan, your reaction to cucumbers is very strange. So post your poem here!
Holly, SO still has iphone5! He's waiting for the iphone9
It was very upsetting last week with the immigrant kids being separated from family, so many emotions- sadness for them, extreme anger that it was happening, disgust with the people letting it happen, and shamed that this is our country now.

I just woke up—it is 5 pm—I literally never nap but I was so tired that I could not keep my eyes open standing up—wow, slept about 2 hours really hard—I think I have managed to catch a cold from my friend I helped last week—hoping this nap and getting good sleep tonight with some mucinex kicks it==hate to think of needing to run around NYC this way and maybe getting the girls sick as well.
I made a list for DH to do when I am gone—only hope he checks my garden morning and evening—it is my routine and absolutely necessary to manage bugs, weeks, tomatoes, cukes, etc. Picked almost all the beets and stored a bunch for me and gave some away. They are so so good.
Am going to get my hair trimmed in a few minutes—just cannot make it till my appt in two weeks.
Did pilates and a new class—it was cardio and I liked it—sort of a combination of aerobics, dance, muscle strengthening and some ballet leg work at the barre.
Am afraid it’s going to be really hot this week back east—hot here but of course not humid.
Sue, sounds like you had a fun evening. I literally cannot stomach what is happening to the children and worry about this secrecy so much.
Everyone at gym loved the silly poem—esp. my teacher—her family loved it because it is all the things she constantly nags them about as well! She comes from a large family and even shared it with her siblings who recognized all the stuff, too.
I’ll copy and post—not sure how it will post on here but I’ll try.
We are eating out somewhere vegetarian tonight after haircut—I don’t want to work on cooking. Leave tomorrow after getting nails done—about 1:40–will sleep in DGD14’s bed tomorrow night (she is in Houston) and fly out early Sat. DGD14 got her care package today and loved it—oatmeal raisin cookies and almond biscotti—she said her friends all loved it too. Really fast for 13$—a day and a half—wow—USPO yay!

Living the Life, Doing It Right
Every day she knew just what to do To live her life till 102.
Throughout the day, she swore with pride, “By all the rules I will abide.”
She’d lift her weights and stretch those bands She’d squeeze that donut with her arthritic hands. She’d lie on her roller and make angels in the “snow” And to get 8 hours, off to bed on time she’d go.
She’d dance her tail off, do cats and cows And downward dogs a time or two And deep breathe like crazy And laugh a lot, too!
She’d roll her feet and stretch her calves thin And in parallel stance, her tummy tucked in, She’d drop her tail bone and “close her top drawer” Pull back her shoulders, drop those blades toward the floor.
She’d push back her chin and gaze straight ahead Then pick up her toothbrush left-handed instead (Of course !) Two whole minutes she’d brush and she’d brush To flush out those organic veggies and such.
She squatted to potty and drank tons of water Fully engaged her core and had good posture, too, Took some time to balance in tree pose And daily, a couple of lunges she’d do.
But then one day she showed up in the Obit She was only seventy two! Oh shit!
“What the hell!” We all said. “She was so sharp!” “...And rolled her feet when she walked!” “And socialized and walked in the park!” “Her core was strong, her body straight! “Her chin was back—Her arms looked great!”
But WAIT!
Oh my God, what a loss! Damn it all, she forgot to floss!

Joan - how cute! I laughed and laughed, Yes, DH usually helps me bring the groceries in (up the stairs) but for some reason that day did not.
Went to the pulmonologist day sample and a coupon for a prescription. It is very expensive so I have to check out what my ins. Will cover and what is on their formulary before I go back to her in a month. I think the med is helping . Already I can tell a difference climbing the steps and my sister says I sound so much better on the phone.
Still have to take the eating slow though. Stuffed myself yesterday going out to eat with the kids and was miserable for about 3 hrsafterward. Din’t feel Like my stomach was emptying at all. Really have to be careful about the amount I eat at a sitting.
Joan, we did have that torrential rain here the day you mentioned . When the storm started, I thought we were having a tornado. I was outside and a huge branch fell and just missed my heAd. Really frightened me!
Sue- missing The Walking Dead. Hope the new season will start soon.
Holly- finally gave into the knitpicks sale. Bought a pattern book and yarn.

Hi all. In NYC—very hot today so got to do my choice— Whitney Art Museum! Loved it.
Also went to Summer on the Hudson concert down on Pier 1–it was so nice and cool on the water and lots of fun till 9–even danced with an old guy who loves to dance—the girls practically pushed me— he was about 80and could really dance.
Such a fun day—walked 8.15 miles and up and down 15 flights of stairs, whew.
Trying to get these girls to bed— set alarm for 8 and DGDstart her half days of dance tomorrow so we have to be on top of things.
JoAnne I hope the breathing keeps improving, just told the girls about your surgery!
Sue it is really hot here—but I love nYC and it’s fun being with these two girls.

Hi! So hot here. With the keratin treatment, I wasn't able to put my hair up in a ponytail when I go to the gym. So I have been walking slower on the treadmill because I didn't want to get too sweaty, hair is so limp, but I can wash it today.
Saturday night an ex colleague and her 6 yr old daughter came over to watch the fireworks from our balcony. We did take out from a new sushi restaurant that just opened up down the block, was yummy. So convenient, very easy for me to do take out more often.
Jojo, glad that the medication is working. Take it easy with your recovery! Did you start watching Into the Badlands, also on AMC. They have some pretty good shows, I started watching Dietland.
Joan, ugh I hate the NYC crowds. Glad you're enjoying it though. Why is your DGD14 in Houston. Too bad we weren't in NYC at the same time we could have met up! How much longer are you there? Did you go to the new Whitney, that's where we went.

Sue - your hair must have gotten very long! Have fun with the fireworks! I have been watching Into the Badlands, but the season is over - and no Walking Dead either - sooo sad! I tried to watch Dietland but didn't enjoy it. Got to find something else to binge on I guess!
Joan - your trip looks like lots of fun. I have been following your pictures on FB. You are really getting the walking in! You should be in tip top shape by the time you get back!
Cooking Steak on the grill today. Having that, corn, and fresh green beans for lunch.
So very humid here!

Hi all,
Looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
Jo Anne, I am planning to go in with a coworker to put in an order to reach the $50 shipping. I want to get some more of the yarn I use to make prayer shawls. I’m working on a KnitPicks dishcloth pattern right now.
Joan, sounds like fun in NYC.
Sue, the first few days after a keratin treatment are the worst. I use a shampoo/conditioner combo now that really helps smooth out the frizz.

SO this morning I posted a whole day’s worth of crazy and somehow the ipad glitched and it was all lost/. One thing I don’t like about this program is that you cannot go back and find what you have typed.

Wow, what a day it was again—I’ll start with yesterday. DGD17 started her dance—absolutely loves it—says it’s the hardest she’s ever worked—she loves that—feels that she is not challenged enough in Sacramento.
Her friend Maddy and I spent the day at the MET—OMG, had no idea what it was really like—it is amazing—you could spend a month going every day and probably not see it all! We did the modern and two special exhibits pretty thoroughly—only glazed over the Egyptian stuff but it totally blew me away! We saw the Versailles exhibit and since I had read City of Light City of Poison it was really cool to see—but also nauseating to see the way the nobility lived when people were starving in the streets!
This morning the girls had said be ready to leave at 8:30 so I was—checked on them at 8:20 and both were still asleep— had failed to wake to their alarms—so it was nearly 10 when we headed down to Greenwich V. For acia bowls for “breakfast”. The minute I stepped outside I told the girls it’s going to rain—it was like liquid air—OMG—so, so humid it felt like Florida. I did not get coffee till right before DGD had to be at dance so sitting in Starbucks getting cool and getting caffeinated was like heaven to me! After she was checked in we went to the MOMA—did the floor with Cezanne, Picasso, Rousseau, Van Gogh, etc—I had seen it last year but never get tired of it—then we went to a special exhibition by Adrian Piper who I had never heard of—it was huge and so, so powerful that as I walked out after an hour, I literally cried.
Tonight after picking up DGD we went to a place called Chelsea dorms—a private dorm just for dancers who are young and have no housing—oh my, I could never do it—they are so small I literally felt claustrophobic but DGD loved the idea—she doesn’t want to be separated from all young people and wants to have a group of young women to get to know, hoping to find others who might someday work at getting a better place together. They said they had no doubles and just a single tiny room is 1200 a month—but we also had two girls let us see a double and she asked if she could take a single and be on wait for a double which is 800. all it is is a tiny bedroom with bunks, one table, tiny closet, microwave, sink, two burner stove and a small fridge—bare minimum. There are two toilets per floor and two small showers per floor. No elevator. Four floors. Laundry in the basement which does at least have two couches that you can relax on while doing laundry. I cannot even imagine it—but by evening, the guy discovered one girl is moving out in September and DD reserved the spot—and it’s a double and quite by accident the girl there is an Alvin Ailey dancer as well. So she is excited—hoping to meet girls, knows it will be a far cry from perfect but it is safe—the manager ‘s place is three doors down and has a backyard/courtyard and it is available to the girls to relax in and has a barbecue and lovely plants that he keeps up to make it look inviting. Of course in winter I’d be going stir crazy! But it’s a start for her and not too far from Ailey.
We ate at Eataly—I had a mushroom pasta that was excellent—amazing mushrooms—they make the pasta by order. Was really good even tho I am not a pasta person by nature.

Walked 9 miles and did 29 flights of stairs today! Yesterday was only 8.1 miles and 15 flights.
Sue DGD14 is in Houston and the Houston Ballet doing a 6 week intensive ballet program.
Holly, good to hear from you!
JoAnne glad you are breathing better—hope it continues to improve.
Sue they want to watch fireworks tomorrow but I have to figure out where to best watch and how insanely crowded it will be! We go to Mean Girls tomorrow so will get to sit for a couple hours. No idea what the morning will look like as there is no dance tomorrow.

Mean Girls on Broadway was just fantastic—we saw original cast for leads—what a treat—loved the play so much—loved the music.
We ended up not going to fireworks—on way back from play, DGD17 said, “Do we really want to go?” I let them talk it over—then they asked me—I said I’d do whatever they really wanted to do—but when they said they really didn’t want to get home that late I was elated! OMG, would have been midnight with the numbers on the subway I am sure! So we Uber-d down to mid Central Park area and Amsterdam/Broadway—ate a kale salad at Sweet Greens and then walked down far enough to see the Dakota (where J. Lennon was shot and the setting for my book, The Address—walked up along C. Park until tired and then Uber’d back. Was beautiful out and just enough walking with no stairs! I loved having some quiet time to pack and make some phone calls—however, the illegal crazy fireworks started about 11 when I was ready for bed—I did not get to sleep until after 2 am when they finally stopped—they were so, so loud—some way too close—so when the alarm went off at 5 am I was pretty wiped out. Uber’d to LaGuardia and got there in 15 minutes so had almost 3 hour wait—had oatmeal and coffee. Then when boarded the plane—another 3 hour wait—the delivery truck for drinks and snacks bumped the plane and that caused a whole investigation which had to be sent to Dallas and then routed back to LGA—took forever—we stayed on the plane in AC and I was lucky as had the whole seat to myself—only one like that—I was sneezing and draining—had a terrible “cold” it seems suddenly and probably no one wanted to be next to me—-finally we were allowed to leave at 12:30 (8:45 was our real time originally) and by then we had all misse3d all connections so SW rerouted all of us to the various cities out of Denver—they even unloaded the luggage and retagged and rerouted it and they ran off boarding passes and destributed them to us—they were so apologetic—then when we landed in Denver I get an email with a hundred dollar voucher toward another flight good for a year—wow—was really impressed. So got home about 5:00 pm. I went to bed at 8 last night and slept ten hours.
Gym today and then lunch with BF’s ( they are booked for the weekend so asked us to meet up) and then groceries and now I have been making vegan chili (big pot), cleaning beets from garden and need to cut watermelon and tomatoes. Having caprese salad (lots of tomatoes and DH has been giving them away and eating them) and chili tonight for dinner.
I am exhausted. But I really had a wonderful time with the girls and I kept up with them—very proud of that! DD and I are already planning a trip to NYC to visit DGD in October! LOL. Can’t wait!
