Worked all day in the yard with long in the house breaks- the only way I could tolerate the heat. Finished the front and back grass. Tomorrow must blow those areas off and do edging
For lunch today made yummy hamburger steaks with mushrooms and onions and brown gravey- not the healthiest lunch but it surely was good - especially with all the yard work!
Watching the first 3 episodes of Yellowstone to catch up.
Received all of the Amazon stuff I ordered on Prime Day . Nice getting it so quickly!

Hi!
Seems like the weeks are flying by. I did my usual volunteering on Tues.
Wed night I went out to happy hour/dinner with my high school friends, Sues. The happy hour was a great deal, 5-6 dollar drinks, shared small plates from 3-6 dollars. So cheap! It is a Wed special throughout the city with participating restaurants for the summer. We didn't know that or plan for it, it was just the only date this week that we could get together.
Joan, the only person in my sister's family that has gone to China is my oldest nephew on a school trip. In my family, my parents speak Chinese to us and we answer in English. I've been to Asia many times. The last time in China was work trip, maybe 4 yrs ago? I just did a beef stir fry with hoisin sauce. The secret to stir frying meats is to slice across grain very, very thin strips, that way there is more marinade on surfaces and cooks very quickly
Holly, glad things are going well for you at work. So you're still doing the hello fresh. I like Israelli couscous better too, bigger grains and so of course, more carby No I no longer want to do catering, all my teachers say it's a ton of work.
The school is closing at the end of the year - supposedly - the teachers won't be surprised if they walk in on a Monday and the doors are locked.
Jojo, I don't remember that last time I was stung by a bee or wasp. wow, talk about Christmas already! I need to start thinking about that as well, we won't be back from our cruise until the week before Christmas. So the hamburger steaks with mushrooms sounds like it is salisbury steak?
Tonight, we are going out to dinner with my second nephew and his GF. He is moving into an apt in the city, about 5-10 minute drive from my house. They're coming over to my house first to see if he wants some kitchen stuff, I also have some work dresses that I could give her if she wants them. I can't fit into them any more and plus, they're a littlle bit too business like.

That is a good restaurant price, Sue! Nice to accidentally pop in on that!
We ate out with BF;s last night—they are not happy about our vegetarian choice—tried to tell them there are choices for us everywhere, just pick a place other than Olive Garden and Mimi’s or something like Chillis or Applebees—all of which I just cannot find anything healthy at at all! So we went to a place that is Italian—pretty authentic I would say—I had a wonderful caprese salad made with heirloom tomatoes—really excellent—even that bothered BF—she felt I wasn’t ordering food—OMG, there were four large slices of tomato and fresh mozarella—I ate it all and was so full was wishing I’d stopped after three slices!
Today I have been in kitchen all morning—baked two loaves of my whole grain bread, baked four batches of banana bread for the beach—I had so many frozen bananas saved—just needed to get my freezer free of them—still have enough for one more loaf but I’m done! Then I made dinner for lunch—bought some awesome portobellos and made burgers—I love this combo—mushroom grilled with oil and balsamic brushed on, arugula for greens, sliced fresh tomatoe, smear of carmelized onions, and a lemon/garlic/basil sauce that really goes well with the mushrooms—served on a whole grain flat bun—these mushrooms were so fresh and so large—about five in in diameter—and not super thick—made for an awesome sandwich. But really filling. Tonight we are just having a romaine salad and a slice of fresh bread. Today is my first day of no walking or gym—just needed a day of rest! Walked six miles yesterday by the end of the day.

Hi all, My whole left side is in pain. My neck is so stiff from the computer. I have been stretching. I’m not sure how to fix this beyond temporary relief. I have to fix my leg length discrepancy at some point. My parents went to the beach. I am keeping one of their dogs because he just had a couple of places taken off his leg and tail. Charlotte’s not handling the not being the center of attention very well. 😂 Joan, you might like this recipe since you like caprese salad: www.google.com/amp/s/www.hellofresh.com/recipes/w22-r8-58f0cee2c9fd0815fd4c2633%3famp=trueJo Anne, I am making hand towels using KnitPicks CotLin. Good summer knitting project. Sue, hope you enjoyed your time with your nephew and his gf. What does he do for a living?

Hi Holly—no never heard of that— I’ll have to give it a try.
How did you get to this point of pain? Are you spending way more time on the computer now with changes at work? Sounds as tho you may have to get up and walk away from it every 45 min or so!
I am headed to a meeting of NOW—National organization of women meeting at the library.
Prepped all food for tonight— making a quiche with no milk— almond milk— and lots of veggies and it is ready to assemble and bake. Also chilled mango Gazpacho soup— it’s done and chilling as are the bowls which need to be frosty. Just made my watermelon recipe and subbed mango— yum.

No changes. I use a standing desk and sit down for a break often. Since I am blind in my right eye and extremely nearsighted in my left, my left side bears all of the burden.

Somewhere yesterday’s post has disappeared and I just lost the one I wrote tonight.😡
Had terrible digestive issues last night but today I am fine. I just cannot eat large amounts a one setting or certain foods. It did not help that I ate fried catfish and hush puppies yesterday. Just got to be more careful with what I eat.
Had the kids today and will have them tomorrow. DDIL went back to work today. She seems to be Ok. I really haven’t had a chance to talk to her about anything since the kids are always around.
Holly- the hand towels are a great idea! Will consider doing some myself. This scarf is going to take a good while though.

Holly- so sorry about your pain! Wish I had an answer for you that would help.
Joan you have become quite the chef lately. You must spend a lot of time preparing meals. I don’t know how you get all your ideas for meals!
Sue- it is so hard to believe that your nephew is out and living on his own. The older I get, the faster time flies and I mean really flies!

JoAnne, if I had fried food I’d be miserable—I probably only eat fried food when I have falafel and then it’s two small balls — my body does not handle the fats well. But I’ve always been that way, even when i was 200#.
did three hrs at the gym yesterday and wAs so tired last night—slept till 7!
i am cooking a lot— retraining myself to be think vegetarian but interesting and its work.

HV been very lazy last couple of days- just watching TV and knitting. Not much to report here.
The kids go back to school next week on Wed. The youngest starts kindergarten and DGS 11 goes to middle school. DGD2 turns 13 on Aug.16.
Recently I have walked around our neighborhood circle several days s. It is about 1/3 of a mile- all I seem able to do right now. Trying to at least do that regularly and then maybe I can do more in time . I guess anything is better than nothing! Funny that I can cut the grass but walking is so exhausting. I do rest periodically when doing the grass and we do have a very hilly neighborhood.
Went to the Dollar store yesterday to buy birthday cards (2 for a $1there). I had looked at them at the grocery store the other day and the one I picked up was $9!! Ridiculous!!

Good idea about greeting cards--I never thought about going there!
You have a riding mower now, right, JoAnne? Seems to me i remember your getting one.
Propelling our bodies is one of the best exercises we can do but if your lungs are compromised its exhausting--I would think over time you are doing the right thing though to do small amounts of walking. I walked at 6 today-pretty decent--84 degrees. DH actually walked with me to coffee and back. My gym's closed today so worried I would not get enough Steps in today without this. I told DH I am going to be pretty low key at the beach--way more walking and may not boogie board--I am feeling so so good finally and one nasty wave grinding me into the sand could end all that in a second. Might just lay on the board and bib around on the waves. We leave on Saturday so am going to start prep ping some meals this afternoon.
Found a really big zucchini hanging out under the huge leaves yesterday. Picked tins of green tomatoes as we are expecting 110 by Thursday and they will just cook on the vine. Will ripen the mind in the pantry.

Hi!
Really humid here the past few days. Did my usual volunteering on Tues.
Yesterday, I had to get my follow up hepatitis A shot, now I'm set for life. We had to get hep A and yellow fever shot for our trip last winter. If I didn't get the follow up shot within 6 months I'd have to get one before another trip.
Since I was in the area, I also visited some more chef teachers at the school that I didn't get to see last time. Sad to think that I will not be able to do that next year.
Also started buying some clothes for our next cruise. Went to a little boutique that I had never been to before that was close to the hospital where I got the shot. I hadn't been in this part of the city in a long time, my old college campus. So many new buildings/shops/restaurants.
Joan, which beach are you going to? Same as always? Sounds like you're doing a lot of food prep. Glad you like the slow roast method for tomatoes! I think it's good that you don't do the boogie boarding with the potential to hurt yourself!
Holly, hope your pain is gone by now. Are the dogs getting along?
Jojo, you've been feeling ill for so long, it's going to take awhile to get back to 100%. Take it easy on yourself!
I had a great time with my nephew and GF, we've been taking them out to dinner a couple of times a year, but it might be more frequent now that he is moving into the city. He was a business major, now working for Vanguard.

Yes, Sue—cooking because I have AC—beach house does not and it probably will be warmer than usual—made the mango gazpacho today and falafel—will pop them in the freezer for tonight. I have three full meals ready other than the salad which I will get greens for there. Taking the last of my roasted beets as well—did those yesterday. I have to make miso sesame sauce for the rice bowls and cucumber dill sauce for the falafel—might make the latter there so it is fresh as we will not have the falafel until monday.
I bought a watermelon that was way too ripe so I seeded it (was a seedless but you know) and mashed it with immersion blender and froze it—oh my goodness—putting a huge chunk in my iced tea totally sweetens the tea and creates this lovely tea watermelon slush toward s the bottom of the drink! It’s heavenly! My tea is herbal so I can drink it all day!
We will grab a salad out at Panera’s tonight since I have been cooking for two days straight—ate here last night. Woke up at 5:30 and careized onions and sauteed the mushrooms (four boxes of them!). Such a pain to clean them! Went to dance and weights at the gym and was so tired after—but I have managed to stay at it—still need to roast some tomatoes tonight to freeze since they will be too ripe when I am back.
I did my regular yoga on Wednesday (think I had already said that on another post) and I really don’t want to do it again—today I am still sore in my triceps and around my ribs from all the tricep pushups—AND today my back is just a notch sore—thinking I don’t need the risk that that class puts me at by encouraging me to work a bit beyond what I need right now.
Nice to have your nephew closer, Sue!

Sute - where is your next cruise? DH and I are thinking about a cruise to Hawaii for our 50th anniversary - no plans yet though.
Joan - I want so much to be at the beach! Hope you have a great time. I can hardly wait til we can go.
I have had some pain under my left ribs - low. It is a little concerning for me but seems to come and go. I have an appt with the pulmonoligist Tues.; so I will talk to her about it.
We went to see the Denzel Washington movie, The Equalizer, today. Very good. Love him so.
Joan, Yes I have a John Deer riding mower that I use for the front and the side yard. But I use an old style push mower (not motorized) for the hill next to the driveway and the back. I just don't feel safe on the hill (and the back is a hill too) with the John Deer or even my gas mower. It takes a while to use the pushmover but feel I must be safe. I have a small one so it is not very hard to push. Takes about an hour to cut the back with it.
I put myself on a bland diet to try to straighten out some of my digestive problems. It seems to be working but then I wonder if I can come off of it. I may have to do it little by little.
