The sad fact is that many of these children are now orphans and will never be reunited with their families. That is heartbreaking, Pam, and unfortunately true. From what I saw last night, DHS says that it is up to the parents/family to locate their children. How heartless! How can an immigrant who doesn't know the system, doesn't have financial resources, and may have very limited if any English even begin to start that process? I've lived here all my life, English is my native tongue, and I have resources and yet the process would seem like a daunting task to me. Where do you even start? WE separated these families, and it is up to us to reunite them. To even consider otherwise is disgusting. I'm sure there will be volunteer groups who will help with this process, but at one point (haven't read about this lately) the government didn't even know where some of these kids were. I'm glad there will be volunteer groups and I've already seen fund raising charities spring up to help, but our government is responsible for this. This is a stain on our country that can never be wiped clean.

The government may be responsible for this & the expenses, etc, but history has shown the government will use any excuse not to do what is right. I think there is going to be a huge ground swell of the best of Americans rising up & taking care of this challenge of reuniting parents & kids. But, unfortunately, as Pam said, for many, it may already be to late. I hope Congress, Govenors, lawyers, & decent caring Americans break down those shelter doors to get access to those kids no matter what part of the country they are placed. If one has nothing to hide, then why do they have to transport these kids in middle of the night & refuse access to officials! I don't even want to imagine how this makes us look to the rest of the world. It is just shameful & so very sad on so many levels!

On another topic, just saw a clip where Charleston apologized for its role in slave trading. Wondering what some of you think about that. For me, it is absolutely fine for them to apologize. I certainly have no quarrel with that, and if that helps bring solace to someone or to bridge the racial divide then I am all for it. Surely slavery was not just wrong but evil, and there is no way to justify it. But there's no one alive in Charleston who participated in slavery. So how can you apologize for something you had no part in? You can say it was a terrible thing. You can say that you wish it had never happened, but history can not be rewritten. It did happen, and we have to live with that fact in perpetuity. So when we do stop apologizing for something that is not our own shame, but instead move forward to put the past in the past and to insure that instead of dragging the past with us we instead move forward working diligently to make racism a thing of the past? I have mixed feelings about this. Slavery was wrong, and certainly we would all want to acknowledge that and the time period should not be glorified. But does apologizing move us forward or hold us back?

I'm seeing those fundraisers on FB too DotRen,. One does have to be very careful. There's always a scam out there just waiting to happen.

I see Melania made the decision to visit the border...she said it was her own decision not on behalf of her husband. I'm happy she went, but it also makes me wonder if she has decided she is not going to be dragged down by her husband's policies & who can blame her for that, I guess. I sincerely hope it's not just a publicity stunt but a true heart felt act & her husband doesn't use this in "his" favor!

Linda, I thought exactly the same thing when I read about Melania going to the border. I truly hope this signals that she is going to stand up and be counted, and that it is not just a publicity stunt to try and win back independent and disenchanted Republican voters. I guess the only way we will know is by watching to see what she does in the future, but for now, I want to believe she has the welfare of these families in mind.

Sooooooooooo, what's with the "I Really Don't Care, Do You" jacket Melania wore on her trip to TX to the border. Intentional? Seriously, did she or her wardrobe coordinator not THINK that the press would jump on this & wonder "what the heck"! This whole WH & family seems to self destruct with blunders of their own doing. Maybe hidden message to her husband..(wink wink) ...my goodness! Now the jacket becomes the news not her trip to the border!

Oh my gosh! I just saw that! How can anyone with even half a brain (and I do not think Melania is stupid) make that big of a blunder? She was a fashion model, so certainly she chooses all her clothes with care. A 12 year old wouldn't have made a mistake like that in this situation. So what was the intended message? This is just mind boggling in the extreme!

Is it any different than her wearing a blouse with a pussy-bow (yes it's called that) right after the scandal about that during the campaign. Poor taste, poor judgement, or just spitting in the face of anyone who doesn't drink the orange-koolaid.

I think her spokesperson came out today & made a statement about the jacket, so, it's not photo shopped as far as I know.

I originally thought she just wore it when she boarded the plane, but no she wore it after the visit too. Just shaking my head in amazement. And, no, it's not photoshopped. Evidently she really is that clueless.

According to Donnie, Melania wore the jacket to say what she thinks about the "fake press". Even if that is true, it's tone deaf and insensitive. But, would we expect any more from Donnie and company?
