I thought I wrote a post this morning but I don't see it. Oh well I guess I will try again but I don't remember what I said.
Ginny, I know this is a difficult time for you and your DH. I will continue to pray for you.
I managed to do a wee bit of crocheting last evening. I started a new audio book which helped keep me working. I don't know whether I like this book but I will try a few more chapters. Hopefully I will get some more crocheting done today. I am having a lazy day.
cj, I am glad that your DB has time to help you sort through your fathers stuff. It will make it easier and I hope you get a lot done.
Phyl. I hope all is well with you.
Ruth, I think that you have enough people in your own family to make things for without making items for their friends but it is difficult to say no sometimes.

Meg, you're sure right about that. I have the 13 grands and now 3rd great grand on the way. I have things requested by family already and I want to finish the baby blankets for the two greats ...only reason I wasn't in a hurry for that is because they say babies should use blankets when very small. I need to do the edging on both and then there's the baby coming in August and the shawl for the dgd who's bday is in August. Seems like a long time away but time goes fast. Fingerless gloves don't take all that long but long enough that $10 for a pair sure doesn't compensate for the time involved.
This woman feels like she's family because she's been friends with my dd for so long. Well she's family maybe to my dd but not to me. I hardly know her. The only thing good is that she likes the gloves and she's one who is very fussy about what she and her 18 yr old dd wear and they always have to be in "style" so I guess it's a compliment that she likes the gloves. I'n not going to be in any hurry to make them. I told my dd already that it will be awhile. If my dd's friend has other friends that like the gloves and want some I'll make them and charge them $30/pair plus price of yarn if they want anything special.
I am getting better at saying no to people. As we get older I think we have to do that. People think we have nothing else to do so they take advantage.
I decided to take the advice of all of you and make my dil an infinity scarf and maybe I'll make her some fingerless gloves. She sent me a picture of some that my dgd would like to have.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all well today Ruth - Most banks/credit unions expect you to have some activity I think at least every 6 months, but you should check with yours for their rules. The thing that irritated me the most with mine is that I went in there and asked if they would refund the fees they charged me to keep MY money and the lady just smiled at me and said "No". I should have closed the account right then LOL. You are right that people have no idea of the cost and time involved in making a handmade product. It's nice of you to make those fingerless gloves for you dd's friend. Ginny - I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers at this time. It says a lot for the character of your husband and his siblings that they turned out to be good people and also that they are there for their mother at the end of her life. Meg - Hope you are the new book and your crocheting. Phyl - Hope you are well. I am so thankful to have the help of my brother. Out of the three brothers, he is the one that has helped me the most over the years and we shared the care of my father for the last few years of his life. We did get 5 large trash bags out of the basement and what's left is mostly larger things that will need to be taken out. I've had problems with mold down there so once everything is out, I may have to have a mold remediation company come in and take out everything to the walls and treat them. Old houses are nice for some things, but no so nice for others Take care everyone.

Well, Ruth, that is so sweet of you to make another pair of fingerless gloves. But yes, if folks realized how much time goes into hand made items like that they would appreciate them more! BTW- DSIL (in Florida) the only thing she wants from MIL's house are the 2 afghans she made for MIL and FIL years ago. I hope that MIL still has them....I will make sure they are found for DSIL. (Who is a excellent crochetter!)
Yup, another long day.
If I get 2 inches of crochetting done a night the afghan will be done in time for the shower. Gotta get back to work! Ginny

hi, mike's remembrance service was very nice. the dsil spoke about memories and things mike taught him. this is funny. bill asked mike if he could marry his dd. mike said yes but you can't bring her back.
the son talked about some spritiual stuff and played the keyboard and sang amazing grace. the son we know that is camping friends of dd and sil didn't say anything. denny can be pretty quiet and shy at times.
the family marge, sons and dd could not thank don enough for being a good friend.
tonight I did spend sometime in the play pen. took the bag I worked on yesterday a little bit apart. didn't like how the straps hug. these are small bags. start out with two 11x14 pieces for the outer side, 2 11 x14 pieces for the lining and a 9x11 piece for the outside pockets.( pocket Is folded in half so it measure 11 inces to fit the bag. for straps we use webbing.
ginny thinking of you and dh and saying prayers. phyl

Thank you ladies. I don't mind at all doing things for people and making things for them but right now I have so many other things to do but I'll get the time and it does stay cold here longer than most places...usually...so she probably will be able to use them this year and if not she can save them until next winter.
Phyl, today must have been a day for heartwarming memorial services. My friend who's wonderful husband died a few days ago had his memorial service today too and said that it was very nice and gave her a lot of peace.
I've been working on my shawl and will go back to that in a minute or so. I thought I hit a snag but it was only my feeble brain not working right....I think. I still have to do a couple more rows and see how it's working out.

Well, once again I am missing some posts from yesterday- so please forgive me if I miss you/your post.
CJ- indeed such a blessing that your brother is willing and able to assist. When cleaning my mom's house, we used the dumpster company (my mom had so much junk that we rented a large dumpster!) assist getting some of the larger items out....like the inoperable refrigerator from the 50's that still had old food in it (but did not work). Yes, get help. I found it was not that expensive. Hopefully when the basement is empty, you will find that the mold problem is not that bad.
Ruth, you are a sweetie to make DDIL an infinity scarf. (Really, can you have too many of them?! I think not!). I wonder if you handed Dd's friend a hook or knitting needles and a ten dollar bill and said- ok now go make a pair of fingerless gloves (which tells me it's got to be knitted) what she would do. Yes, we all love to craft- but please give credit where credit is due.
Meg, not glad about it, but I am happy to see that you too are having trouble with this site and posts. That makes me feel a little bit less wacky when I mess up with posting here! What did you decide to do with the book? Will you keep it or start on another one? Is is an author you usually like?
Only got 2 rows done last night, and 2 done this am. Gotta crochet 4 rows a day to get this afghan done for the shower.
MIL is still here....but I do not think she has much time left on this earth.
"Come unto me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28

Ginny also the one many people used to have in their signature on the old ww boards Philipians4:13, Psalm 18:2 is a great one too in times of stress and trouble.
Well last night I figured out what I was doing wrong with my shawl once again. Sometimes you just get into kind of a mindless crocheting mode and forget that the ending of each row is not the same and that's what I was doing and I was adding a stitch which in this pattern then multipled with every row.
The fingerless gloves I made for dd were crocheted....so yes...hhahaha.... I should hand dd AND her friend a hook and say here do it and see if it's only worth $10.I also used a good yarn for hers and they have no idea how much yarn costs so that's why I told dd to have her friend buy the yarn. And I'll hand dd some knitting needles and tell her to find out how long it takes to make a tubular and wide tubular at that, very long scarf and see if that would end up being worth more to her than she probably thinks. This is my daughter (i have only the one) that threw all her mil's yarn into the garbage. Now she wants me to use mine to make her, her kids and now her friends knitted and crocheted items.I mentioned that before I know but it will always bother me. I hate waste. My dil gave me all her mother's yarn when her mother passed away, and I know that I mentioned that before too, but when I make things for them I always consider that her mother had a part in each item because of me using her yarn. It's not still the same yarn because that was 10 years ago but I've used her yarn for many things so making things for them reminds me of her.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - the memorial service sounds very nice. It's always nice to hear the thoughts of people whose lives were touched by the one who is gone. Ginny - Hope you can get those rows finished before the shower Ruth - That's a wonderful thought that when you use that yarn from your DIL's mother, that it's like she had a part in it Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I haven't done any crafting these past few days, busy with shopping, errands and things around the house. The 7th block on the Solstice quilt came out yesterday, and I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow. I really want to keep up with these, and not get behind. Here's a link to the page if you want to see the block and pictures: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/ - you need to scroll down. Take care everyone.

hi, haven't done much today. talked to mary jo probably for an hour. been in my play pen. got more bags cut out for the sit and sew on tuesday. that should keep me busy for the next two tuesdays.
when I worked at mcdonald's shirley told me don't let nancy know you are learning to quilt. she will be on your back to make stuff. some how she found out and that's all it took. she paid me very well. she thought because I could quilt I could sew garments.she was a hard person to tell no to. finally she got the picture.
shirley who was a very good quilter and seamstress had told her no long before. like shirely says when you do for others it take your time away from doing your own projects.
ruth it might come to the point to tell dil you will craft for family members only. people now days want eveything for nothing.
it's one thing to do for somebody because you want to, another because of being asked. once they got your number they don't stop asking.

Hello everyone,
I got up late today as DS took Devin yo school.
Ginny, I think that when I write a post sometimes I forget to press the create a post when I want to send it. But I am not surer about that as I often write posts and they don't show up on the board. I did some crocheting last evening and listened to another audio book that I had started and not finished. The other book I mentioned I will probably not finished. There are so many good books waiting to be read that I am not going to waste my time on something that doesn't interest
Ruth, I have had people ask me to finish a project that they started and couldn't or didn't want to finish. I politely told the NO I would hate to try and finish some ones project because for one thing my tension would probably be different. Have you ever read any books by Betty Neels? She was an English nurse and when she retired she started writing and she wrote over100 books. The are about nurses and doctors and they love stories. So if you want something light and clean you might want to try one. I have enjoyed them whern I just want something light to read.
Phyl, the memorial service sounded very nice. Sorry you and your DH lost a friend.
cj, my b/blanket is coming along slowly. I don't like the yarn I am using. It is Red Heart supersaver which I usually don't use for b/blankets and it is stiff though when I wash the finished blanket it will soften u but it is not fun to work with.

Meg, I don't like super saver either. I use it only to make toys and then only toys are aren't intended to be cuddled.A lot of patterns call for that yarn but I ignore that.
No I would never finish a project that someone else started. I don't imagine that any two people use the same tension so it just wouldn't come out at all.
CJ, sometimes those pesky, errrands and chores around the house do interfere with our crafting.
Meg, no I've never heard of those books but I will sure be looking to see if they're on my online sites or if my local library has them. They sound really good.
And Phyl, yes you can't ever tell people you work with about sewing or knitting and crocheting because some people do impose and expect that you will be more than happy to make them things. I'm glad that woman paid you well but still and all it took up your time that you could have been doing things for yourself or family. The only reason I will make these gloves for this young woman is because she is such a good friend of my dd. She has one more friend that I would do it for because she is such a nice young woman and has had a hard life but those two are it. I've been concerned that the people that see the things I make for my grands in Indiana would ask my son or dil if I would make the same for them and I'd definitely have to tell them no or financially make it worthwhile to me but then there might be hard feelings between them and my family members because those people they know from church or whatever might expect me to make it for them free or a low cost. As we all agree, supplies cost a bit and our time is worth money too. Now for charity I don't mind. I don't know what's different about that but it just seems different to me

I had a reply made and now it's gone.
Meg, I don't use super saver except for toys that aren't intended to be hugged and cuddled. It's a harsh yarn. I think I used some for some of the purses too actually.
I never heard of thos books but they sound really good so I'll be looking for them on my online sites and the local library.
Phyl, yes it's a risky thing to mention at work a craft that you do because there's always someone that wants you to make things for them. I'm glad the woman paid you well though. Still it takes your personal time away.
Meg, I would never finish someone's unfinished project either. I doubt that there are ever two people who have the same tension so it just wouldn't work well. When I was going to caps for kids though the leader had an afgan or I should say a bag of afgan blocks. The person that donated that also included a couple skeins of yarn and the hook that was used to that whoever took it could join the blocks and do the edging. She gave it to me but I still haven't worked on it. I probably should have just told her that I appreciated her offer to give it to me but that she shoujld give it to someone else. Maybe if I ever go back I'll take it to a meeting and redonate it.
CJ, yes, sometimes those pesky errands and household tasks get in the way of our crafting time. Darn dust is always trying to accumulate.
Ginny, I hope you were able to have some relaxing time in your day and have a good evening although I guess by now it's nearly 9pm in your area.
I haven't had crocheting time yet either. I decided to cook some things and to sort out my soups to see which are gluten free.So many aren't and I do have a lot of cans of soup.I'll add them to things i make for dh. He doesn't really care for canned soups just as they come from the can although he used to eat a bit of Chunky soup but that was years ago. He likes them ok added to things just to use them up and sometimes they really do add a nice flavor. Some I found were actually expired. i guess they got pushed back on the shelf. Some things last forever but clam chowder...no way am I eating expired soup that has fish, clams, and shrimp in it which is a whole other thing... I guess I never read the ingredient list on Progresso New England clam chowder before because I didn't know it had cod and shrimp in it too.
Well ok, off to do some crocheting and if my shawl gets off kilter agin you'll hear me scream

I did it again I lost my post. Oh well I will start again. Good Friday morning. It has been wet and windy here though the sun is out now drying up the water. There is another storm coming in so I think it will be a wet weekend.
I did do some crocheting last night and listened to my audio book and finished that story now to find another one I like. I will leave for my Knit Wits Gp. soon and that will take care of my afternoon. I have spent a lot of time checking out patterns on Pinterest and saw some I might like to try. I could spend hours looking at patterns when I get started.
I wll check back later. Have a great day.
