We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.
(Dating the thread for a little longer period of time right now. Since everyone is so busy, it should work that way. If it starts getting too long we can always change it.)

Scanning this morning's news, there seems to be nothing actually new. The JA, as everyone knew he would, has completely backed off his forced statement of "yes, I believe my intelligence agencies." He's back to the "I don't believe a word of it, and everybody but Putin is out to get me." Wonder if he can spell paranoid or self-denial? I'm still hoping we're going to see him self-implode. He seems to be getting more and more frantic. Some Rs are making statements but it still remains to be seen if they'll actually develop a backbone.

My favorite recently is his tweet threat to Iran. Diplomacy by tweet. Just let that sink in.

Maybe we really don't even need an Oval Office or a West Wing anymore at the White House. All that seems to be needed to run the country is a phone and a Twitter account. Just think of all the tax money we could save! Need to make sure the phone has a Caps Lock function though so they'll know we really mean it. Rand Paul surely has changed his tune since the 2016 campaign. When he was running he thought the JA was practically the devil in disguise. Now, he can't seem to suck up enough. Pathetic!

"Diplomacy by tweet"---now that's downright scary.

Let's just hope any "wars" are kept to social media.

Pure insanity!
It doesn't look like anything will change until November. Watch those that lose their seats finally grow a spine and act patriotic on their way out the door *shaking head*
Historians will be writing about this presidency for over a hundred years. That's of course providing we still have a republic when this fever breaks.

Good morning! I definitely agree about hoping any wars remain on Twitter. I would not put it past this JA to start a war just to try and take the heat off himself in other areas, and traditionally presidents get re-elected during a war. So when he starts the aggressive, threatening tweets it's scary. DotRen , I hope NK is dismantling. That would surely be something to celebrate. Pam, you're probably right that Rs who lose in November may suddenly grow a spine. It seems that leaving Congress has that effect on some, at least in their rhetoric. So far those leaving and speaking out still don't seem to be doing much tangibly. Can you tell I sound discouraged this morning? Maybe it's because I didn't sleep well last night.

Jeff Sessions still leading chants of "lock her up," just makes me want to throw up. He's the Attorney General for goodness sakes! You'd think they'd at least want to give an appearance of dignity and non-partisanship. But no, clearly with Republicans there is no such thing anymore. The more undignified, the more partisan, the more "we don't give a damn about facts or justice" the better. I'm far from pleased with the Democrats, but the Republicans just disgust me they have sunk so low into the mire. They can't even take their win and move forward anymore. You know when I go to watch my grandson's Little League games, they're taught to be gracious as either a winner or a loser. When I recently watched his tennis tournament (by the way he won--grandma brag! ) he and his opponent graciously shook hands. If my grandchildren know how to conduct themselves with decorum why can't these Republicans? They truly just sicken me. Hillary screwed up big time. Whether or not she would have won the election if it had not been for the Russians is debatable, but a moot point because she lost. Republicans pull up your big girl panties, take your win, and stop trying to use her as a scapegoat for everything. She made her own choice with that server, it was a wrong choice, and she paid a big price. But it's water under the bridge now. So how about instead of getting your jollies with stirring rants of "lock her up," now that you're in power why don't you try to do something for the country for a change. Here's a thought. How about trying to make our upcoming elections more secure? Gosh, Republicans must get down on their knees every night and pray for health and long life for Hillary, because once she's gone how will they have anything to chant about at their rallies? You can put the entire lot of them into one big think tank and not come up with a single idea among them all.

What did you think about the Cohen tape CNN has? I hope Mueller can get more from the 12 tapes than just what's on that one, because it proves the JA has been lying but it doesn't conclusively prove the breaking of laws although it does provide some circumstantial evidence. As for the lying, he does that every time he opens his mouth and Republicans just simply don't care. I expect the other tapes may be more damning. Had to laugh about Putin saying he doesn't want to come to the White House anytime soon. Poor JA! His buddy doesn't want to come to his party. The WH no longer putting out the summaries of calls with foreign leaders is just one more example of the JA trying to hide what he does from the public. He wants so very badly to be a dictator, and the Republicans are trying their very best to help him achieve his dream.

IMHO- It sounds to me as if the followers of TRUMP are self soothing every time they say "Lock her up" because they screwed up by voting for him. (Sessions is such a dweeb he is delighted that he is not being the one picked on, enough of that in the school yard lol)
Trump is a mess and he has messed up this country for generations to come, if his followers admit that, then they have to admit that they were wrong. Can they do that, or just remain stupid stubborn?

Some, I think, are just too stupid to even know how wrong they are. But some, as Anne said, know what a huge mistake they made and just don't have the courage to admit it so instead they just keep compounding it.

When I see posts from people who still claim to support Trump I am appalled/surprised/angry/sad all at once. I do not understand why they cannot see him for what he is and what he is doing to this country. And yet, to hear them, we are the ones who are deluded.
