This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year Olds board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Nice to "see" everyone yesterday. I posted late, so won't repeat. I am planning to go into my office in a little while, maybe after DH wakes up. Not sure if he was up during the night, but is sleeping now. Considering the contraption he has to sleep with, it's a wonder that he can sleep. I can't complain about the cold here seeing as those of you with the below zero temps would think that 16 was a heat wave. I had the dog out this morning for our normal walk, which takes about 20 minutes, and is .6 miles. Late yesterday afternoon it was quite cold too, and I thought I might get him to turn around sooner, but no such luck, and that walk is about 3/4 mile. Not sure why I do 2 different routes, but I do. I did put on my fleece lined leggings under everything, and have a thermal shirt on.
I came up for the book The Girls In The Garden, but last night I started one of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. I just love these and read through them relatively quickly. I can read them later at night too. I have about 60 pages left in Imagine Me Gone. I might break that up into 2, only because it is a sad story, and I am thinking how it might end, and don't want to think about it. Now I have to think of the next book to put on hold. Any great ideas? I know I can put on the new Jodi Picoult, but I usually am not a fan of hers.

Good morning. Hi Robin, thanks for the start! I just came back on, to see if it was started, otherwise I was going to start it. How is your DH doing this morning? Hope he got a good nite's sleep, that always helps healing.
Pinky, Marsha and I are getting a snow storm...Pinky probably now, Marsha and I later today, into tomorrow. Lots of blowing with this one. Last weekend's snow of 6" wasn't too bad, because there was no winds to speak of.
Running to town, which was unplanned. DH gave me an empty pill bottle last night, so we will be picking that up, so of course while looking thru Festival Foods ad, saw they had stuff on sale that I could use, but the sale ends tomorrow. So we will stop there, then to Woodman's for the rest of a grocery list that just materialized. Why is it we always seem to need something from the grocery store? We are supposed to babysit tomorrow night, but I sure hope my DD2 and her DH use their head, with coming out here in the snow. Oh well, grown children don't want to listen to their parents.
Have a great day!

DH didn't get out of bed yet, so I am scrapping the idea of going into the office. I really don't need to go for anything specifically, seeing as I can do all work at home. I have one person in my office who handles files that get sent to other banks, and I just spoke to her about one of my files we were waiting to hear on, and did what we had to do. Anything else is handled by a processor who works out of a different office than I do. Sometimes that's a pain, but usually works fine. I just can't sit on top of her to make her do anything, but she is usually quite good, and doesn't want to give me up. If I switched to someone else, it might not work out as well for me because she knows me already. Plus, I really don't have much going on right now. When DH gets up, if he wants to put clothes on, which I am sure he will, I need to help him with the sling. I would force him to get out of bed if I really needed to go anywhere.
Karen, I so agree with you about always needing things from the grocery store. Sometimes I joke that I am there spending $100 and didn't really buy anything to eat, which really means it is just breakfast, lunch, and snack stuff. Drinks maybe, but not much to actually cook a meal with. I want to make a bolognese sauce tonight, and I have to rummage to see if I have any usable celery. I could live without it in there. Last night I actually cooked dinner using chicken cutlets from the freezer. I bought a full stalk of brussel sprouts at Trader Joe's yesterday, and it ends up being a lot of brussel sprouts. I probably only used 1/3 of them last night. Seeing as I love them, it's OK with me, and they will keep.

Good Morning Ladies! Looks like it is going to be a good weekend to hunker down and stay inside. We are expecting it to start snowing in the next hour or two and go downhill from there. It is actually 14 degrees this morning which is a heatwave compared to this past week but the temps are to drop again tonight and horrific windchills. I should use this time to wrap gifts and do some baking but laying around reading and watching movies( which I rarely do) sounds very appealing. Sunday is our DGD's Sunday School Christmas program at our church here in our little town and then our DGS's who are 2 1/2 hours away is at 6:00 Sunday night. We usually get to both of them but makes me wonder what the weather will do for this. Time will tell I guess.
I did start reading Ordinary Grace and think I will like it and need to continue listening to Big Stone Gap before it goes poooffff!
Robin---glad you can let your DH sleep, as he may have had a rough night and needs his rest. I haven't changed my mind on using FB either as it is so many steps to see all the comments but I do still check on them often because they are such great ladies.I will check into The Girls in the Garden.
Karen----Yes everyone from the old WW board over on FB now seem to be doing fine. Tracey, Terry, Raini and JJ are regular posters. Occasionally Linda and Janice pop in, but haven't seen anything from Yve for a long time. Rarely does Maur post and I hope I didn't miss anyone. They are great people but I just don't care for the FB format---this is so much better. Hope you get stocked up on groceries and don't get hit by the storm to hard. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, me and anyone else in the path that it won't be as bad as they are saying. Lotza schools in western SD are closed today and I see the middle of the state schools are closing so yup you got it---we are next. Actually a few schools in our area are closing at noon. Probably a good move to make sure everyone gets home safely.

I am trying again to see if it shows up----I added glasses just to see if it shows up and I have been wearing my glasses a little more the last few days as my eyes have been so dry. Not sure what is up with that----I have loved my contacts for years and like hardly ever wear my glasses. Just going to edit from this one-----looks like it worked now and changed my avatar on previous posts like I expected----had to check only use default avatar instead of use default avatar.

You inspired me Pinky, but I uploaded my photo. Maybe I will change it at some point. I have less than a half hour left now of this book, I have been reading while working, so want to finish it. Yes, I did forget to mention that JJ posts regularly on that thread.

I am fighting a cold and I am miffed. I had planned to finish all my Christmas shopping today. I know there is a week left, but all the schools will be out and the stores will be even more busy. I guess I will go on Monday.
Except for migraines, I rarely get sick. Even when I was working for the school and was around all those kids, I would maybe get one cold a year. I found some OTC cold meds and started taking them yesterday. I woke up with a headache which reminded me that something in those meds give me a headache. I need to write that down somewhere so I don't make that mistake again.
Robin, I can't believe that nurse. One of my friend's DD wanted to be a nurse, but never could pass the math course required to be admitted to the program.
I shouldn't complain about the cold here. I just saw a news story on the conditions up north. I hope all are safe and warm.
I'm about halfway through The Orphan Train and I like it. I think I'll spend the rest of the day with a blanket and try to finish it.

The snow that was supposed to be just light and fluffy and brief this morning never stopped and now it looks like it is going to run right into the storm that is supposed to hit at 3:00. I decided to work through lunch, leave early for my eye doctor appointment and stop and eat on he way rather than going back and forth at lunch and out again later. I was hoping someone would cancel at the eye doctor and I'd get in earlier but no such luck. I guess everyone is trying to get in before the end of the year - I'm tempted to cancel but if I get in this year there is a chance it might be covered under my insurance.
Early release at school today so they did not have to adjust the schedule because of the snow but they have cancelled everything for tonight and tomorrow so no band concert tomorrow.
Still reading Mrs. Roosevelt's Confidante (Maggie Hope). And trying to listen to Secrets of Eden but my cassette adapter in my car doesn't seem to work in the morning - I think perhaps because it is cold - and I only have 1 day left on the loan.

I finished Imagine Me Gone. I liked how the author ended it, so that was good. After our discussion at our book club last week I saw that we each like things to end differently, or take a different path. I like when the author tell us how they want it played out. Someone else said that she likes to fill in her own ending, or even parts of the middle. I like when books make me think about things, but don't want to make up these things for myself. That's why I read. Then of course there are the books where I don't really want to think at all, but that's for another purpose.

Oh gosh just realized I left you out Marsha as a regular poster on FB----sorry about that, I guess that is why I usually do not like to list names. Sorry about that.

Robin, I am the same, when I read a book, I am assuming the author has a story to tell. I appreciate being lead thru the whole story. I want an end of the story, at the end, unless it is a series. But I guess everyone has a different way of reading. How is your DH doing this afternoon? Pinky, yep, we are all sharing the snow storm. I am happy tho, that it warmed up a bit today. We are having a lull right now, which was predicted. It is also predicted to snow the heaviest during the night. I am looking forward to mid week and end of week to come, the temps are going to be in the upper 20's!!!! Lol, I may try to take a walk! I hope you are able to go to the christmas concerts! Hi Carol2, sorry about your cold. DH had the President's last press conference on TV a few minutes ago, and you could hear all the coughing and sneezing in the background! Your in Texas right? I am hearing from family and friends that are down there, that it is about to be unusually cold. Stay warm! Hi Marsha. When we came from town around noon, the roads weren't too bad. The snow has stopped now, for the moment. Hope you can get around to your eye doctor apt, and get home ok. That is a shame that the concert is cancelled. Are they able to reschedule it? Not looking forward to Sunday...that is when we will be blowing/shoveling out, and the temp is supposed to be bitter, with winds. Pinky, you guys have alot of the old posters on FB. That is nice, but sad about Yves, wonder what happened to her. Hope she is ok. The president had his final press conference as president, and I swear he was just rambling!!! Well over an hour of him going on and on! Can't believe DH sat and watched it! Oh well, to each his own.

Well, it's easy to see many of us live in the northern part of the nation! It's been 6 degrees here and dropping. Tomorrow will be brutal and snow in the morning. I've decided not to go to the WW meeting. I wonder if it will be cancelled and we'll get a credit! haha
Robin, glad DH is on the mend. Sleep is the best thing to do. At least for me anyway. I was out with my dog around 7 and it was frigid. His paws freeze up on him and then he can't walk. By the time I got in the house my fingers were freezing. I told the dog "he's in till spring".
Carol2, sorry about the cold - what a time of year for that, right! Karen, I know what you mean about runs to the store. I always have a list, but still manage to forget something - and it's always something important! Pinky, is it difficult to add a picture? Is it best through an iPhone or laptop? Marsha, hope you get into the eye Dr. if only for the insurance to pay for it for once!
Stay warm!

Anngie----I went to profile and then chose edit profile. There it let me design my own avatar---not sure how to put an actual picture on. I think it is pretty easy if you are at least a little techy.
Everyone stay safe and warm!!!!
