Instead of draining the swamp as the JA claimed he was going to do and as I still see some of his deluded followers believing, he has exponentially filled the swamp. For the JA and his cohorts everything has a price tag.

The world seems to be filled with secret recordings of the JA and his staff. Guess Gen Kelley doesn't run such a tight ship. This one seems to leak like a sieve.

Waving HI from HOT HOT HOT ND...its been in the high 90's or 100 for several days. Fire Index is on HIGH/Dangerous now. I thought it was very insightful to see Zinke tells CA to cut down trees to stop wildfires...WOW what a simple & insightful idea. Kind of like JA diverting water in CA. Funny, in that ND does not have many trees to cut down, but the wildfires will be starting soon here on the prairie. Where do these idiots come from!!!
If Omarosa can tape at will, makes me wonder how many people in & out can do so at will in the WH. I generally have no interest in what she has or her excuses, but the tapes are interesting in themselves. Hopefully her 15 minutes of fame will last about 5.
Not much happening here. Been a quiet summer, which is soon to end. School starts here in a week & a half. Hard to believe Fall is just around the corner. My favorite season.
Joyce, I hope your parents had a nice Anniversary. What an achievement in this day & age. Your Mom was young. My mom turned 18, 5 days before she was married so she married very young too.
Wonder what today's news will bring....

@lka5, Linda, so good to see you here! I really hope ND doesn't experience the wildfires. They can be so devastating, and as you point out clearly no one in this administration has a clue about them. As for cutting down trees in CA, CA really doesn't have that many trees (of course you've got the giant Sequoias), but compared to here in TN there are not many that we would consider actual trees. The lack of rainfall does cause the grass and brush to become extremely dry and it doesn't take much to ignite, but CA has some very strict laws about keeping the grass and brush cut back and assesses some pretty hefty fines when people don't do that. This administration just can't admit that climate change is real, no matter how much scientific evidence there is to back it up. They continue to make totally idiotic statements. Sounds like our moms had a lot in common, including this dreaded disease. Today is my dad's 91st birthday. On Saturday afternoon I really didn't think he would still be here today. It was bad, and I left the NH fully expecting to be called back during the night. That didn't happen, and instead when I went back Sunday morning I found him up in his wheelchair and down in my mom's room. This man is truly amazing! I sure hope I got some of those strong genes! Not political, but this is an almost unbelievable and very frightening true scenario. Every patient needs a strong advocate. www.cnn.com/2018/08/13/health/mayo-clinic-escape-2-eprise/index.html

Joyce, when Jason turned 18, we went to court & got legal guardianship for him. It felt weird at the time, that we had to hire a lawyer to get complete say over Jason's financial, health & living situations being we were his parents, but, totally understood the need for it. Those guardianship papers have been lifesavers for us in avoiding situations like the above video link you posted. So very important if one is a caregiver of a child or an adult. Happy Birthday to your Dad. His will to live must be based on the fact the does not want to leave your Mom. The heart knows!

Living here, I had to chime in: nashville11 , California has a massive amount of forested land. Unfortunately, many, many trees have died due to the drought and insect activity. Our Forestry department does try to do some clearing of the deadwood on state owned land, but it is an overwhelming job, outstripping the budget. As far as federal land, that budget has been reduced, so if you want us to clear more trees, send the money! Some of the problem is folks moving to what were formerly uninhabited areas, putting more structures at risk. A little followup: An article in today's local paper noted that 95% of California's fires are caused by human activity. So it sounds like the best prevention is education and caution. The causes the article lists (in order of largest factor) are equipment causing sparks, arson, debris burning, kids playing with fire, smoking, vehicles and power lines. Just thought it was interesting; I thought lightning was responsible for more fires than the reality.

JA signed a Defense Bill today that was named after John McCain. He did not mention one time Senator McCain's efforts on his part over the years to get this bill passed. McCain's friends & colleagues named this Defense Bill after McCain to honor him for his service & his being head of Armed Services Committee for several years & the JA in the Oval Office is so petty & so small he refused to mention McCain's name with the bill. How disgusting, but just another day in the day of having a waste of human flesh as President. UGH!

lani , interesting about the forested land. When I lived in southern/central CA on the coast, I just didn't see much of that other than I suppose in northern CA. I remember once when DH was out of town waking up to a strong smell of smoke. I thought the house was on fire. In fact, the smoke smell was so strong that I was feeling the bedroom door to see if it felt hot before opening it. When I got into the front of the house and looked out the dining room window, the entire mountain across from me was blazing. Fortunately for me, the wind shifted in the other direction. Not so fortunate for the people on the other side of the mountain. It just is so dry there for so many months of the year, that it doesn't take much to start a fire or for it to get out of control. I know in the area where I lived, the authorities were very strict about keeping grass and brush cleared. Hefty fines were levied against anyone who didn't do that, as they should have been as it is just too great a danger. CA is beautiful, and I loved living there. It's only problem for this TN girl was that it was just too far from those I love. Linda, the JA is such a petty, sniveling little weasel. He just can never take the high road. For him it's always crawling along in the slimy gutter.

How do supporters of the JA justify to themselves the ugly, hate filled things that he Tweets about people? It's not a new phenomena. He's been doing it all along, and his supporters seem to like it. I really don't understand that. These tweets are not just calling out what he "sees" as wrongs, but vicious personal attacks calling people dogs, and worse. The more vicious the attack, the more some of his supporters seem to like it. No other president of any party would have done such things. There was a time when Presidents actually conducted themselves with decorum and dignity. This is as far from decorum and dignity as you can get. I wouldn't tolerate my grandchildren calling people names, and I thought that most people wouldn't tolerate that with their children/grandchildren either. Has the entire world really turned that upside down? Do his supporters think it's ok if their children/grandchildren behave in that way? Are they teaching them that it's o.k.? Or is it just o.k. to let the leader of the free world, the person who represents our country, who represents us to the world behave that way? To me this is just appalling, and I am embarrassed to be even loosely associated with this kind of behavior by the simple fact of being American. I really do not understand how anyone thinks this is even tolerable, much less something to be cheered.
