People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.

Fred's golfing this morning so I think I'll put down the rest of the mulch while he's gone. I made him stop yesterday as temps were in the upper 90's and I worried about him being out in the heat. I was surprised that he didn't fight me on it! Supposed to be much cooler today so will be a good day to finish it!

Good morning
I stayed the same at TOPS last night but had a .8 gain for my ww weigh in Monday morning. We had a birthday party for my Gr.niece and I enjoyed myself but watched my portions, so it can be done. Another hot and humid day up in the 90's so will work on my to do list today.

Good morning from rainy Indiana.
I woke up around 1:30am to the sound of thunder and lots of rain and it's been coming down steadily all morning. It looks like this system will linger most of the day and into tomorrow. We sure needed it because we were getting very dry again. We'll be in the mid to high 80s with very high humidity but the heat is supposed to break tomorrow and Thursday then climb back into the uncomfortable range.
Nothing much happening here in my little corner of the world.

Hoping to hear about Don.
My DSIL had an appendectomy last night. They say he had a very infected appendix, which had burst 2 days before. It took them 4 times the usual time to operate because of the infection. He has a high threshold for pain, but requested morphine when they drove him to the ER last night. He said he had some stomach pain before but not that bad. Yikes. He is going home this afternoon and has had a good breakfast.
I requested a medical leave from work for 2 months. We shall see what I feel like after that. A full leg cast is definitely not conducive to work.
I get my second shingles shot this afternoon. My closest friend from teaching is still recuperating from a very bad case. It got into her eyes, her scalp, all over. Poor sweetie. She is having hip surgery soon and gave me this motivational quote from a card her sister sent her:
The good in you is stronger than any bad day.
Love it.
Have a good one.

Greetings:
We're in Ritzville, Washington this morning. Today we drive to Dillon, Montana. We are going south on I-15. All my life I drove up and down I-25. I told DH I couldn't do it this trip. He wants to go and see where I lived, etc., but just not going to happen this trip .
Joanne! You wrote your own best mantra! Write that down and stick it where you can see it every day! (If you can get over my being so bossy!)
I enjoyed myself but watched my portions, so it can be done.
Yes, Joanne, it can be done and YOU can do it! I'd probably add: and I can do it! to the above, but it's your message to yourself and you know yourself better.
It was cool for the past several days by the ocean. Yesterday it gradually increased until it was in the mid-90s when we got here. Fires in Washington and the air currents blowing smoke everywhere. Vista points, turnouts to stop and admire the scenery, didn't have much business yesterday. I started to pull off at the first one and then realized there was so much smoke in the valley that rose into the sky that we wouldn't be able to see anything if we stopped plus we'd be breathing all of that smoke. So, we just drove... and drove.
We were going to drive Monday through mid-Friday to get home making for fewer-miles days. Early stops, later starts, but DH decided he wants to get home Thursday so we're adding miles to the next three days. It'll be okay as we'll be on interstate and the only population center isn't very populated -- north of Salt Lake City -- it'll be heavy for awhile but not hours.
Hope all are doing well. When I'm a passenger today I'll try and catch up on posts. We need a new book and I should be downloading it right now! Bye

Good morning. Made it home before 8:00 last night. Didn't really unpack, but most things are in the house. I bought two new bathing suits while there. One a 16 and one an 18. I know I can tuck the 18 in on my serger if it is loose. I carry a lot of weight in my thighs so I can go smaller in a swim suit. It was so tight when I put it on this morning. I then notice that it was 16 in another country - 12 in the US> I am surprised I could get it on at all. Also got a start on my Christmas shopping at Tuesday Morning in Columbus. Checking into changed TV and internet to Charter Spectrum from AT&T. Every time there is a storm I have to reset all the boxes plus spectrum has increased the speed of their internet for no extra charge.
On the riddle my firt thought was turn it upside down.
Gail prayers for you. Hope you are continuing to feel better about your situation and safety.
Jane prayers for sure for you and Don. What happened?
Sandy sounds like you all had a good meal at a new place. That is always fun.
Better get started. I went to DD;s this morning to drop off my trash on her curb. Mine was picked up yesterday and I didn't want it to sit out in the garage with watermelon and other things I threw out of the refrig. Still have more cleaning to do, but smaller things can be bagged to not attract flies.
I did drop a few ounces over my trip - surprise as I eat awful while driving. I don't like to go anywhere alone so a lot of fast food in the car and a lot of caffine to stay alert, which I don't usually do. Diet cokes are hardly ever in my diet, but two large ones yesterday along with a McD's sugar free iced latte. I won't tell you everything else.
Geri/TN It's not having what you want It's wanting what you have OK I just realized that I posted this on Monday. Luckily I remembered to copy and paste and not just delete the whole thing! Hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks everyone
I have quickly scanned the posts.
Don has had multiple tests and is still in the hospital. He has been disoriented at home and not telling me. Not knowing where things are--big things--like the bathroom or towels when he is in there. Yet we won at bridge on Tuesday and he can do the crossword and other game things from the paper.
He has seen multiple Drs. and I canceled a Dr. for today and tomorrow. I have talked to him 3 times this morning and was putting off going to the hospital to try to get things caught up at home and of course my back has once again started to be so painful that I can hardly walk so have not mentioned that to him but told him I was busy with things at home and would come later today and stay till the end of visiting hours so would need to be here for Kelcy in order to stay that late. He sounded good on the phone and so I am trying to take care of me so that I can take care of him. No pool time which was really helping by the evidence of what not going seems to show.
His problem has not been diagnosed...Dr. said no stroke...thought pneumonia but decided that was the cancer causing that to be and not pneumonia. I canceled everything yesterday so am free to take whatever care of him and me. They have said he needs in home therapy and should use the walker instead of the cane.
I slept 10 hours from exhaustion I think and I have worked all day today on things so hope to BBL
Geri---Don just woke me at 3 am yesterday and said he needed to go to the ER so we went and evidently that was the right thing since he is still there. When asked how long he had been in the hospital he said 2 days---it had been 12 hours at that point (but seemed much longer to me and yet could tell his name, day of week, and even the date of the month--which I usually don't know)
I am taking Kelcy out and heading to the hospital in about 15 min. If they don't send him home I will try to be back later to tell you if I know more.

Have been absent from basically posting since Thursday, have read all posts. Jane, sorry to hear Don is hospitalized and pray he will be home soon. Sounds as if the Dr's a giving him an extensive examination, and they can give some answers to his pain and other issues. Prayers for both Don and you. 10 hours sleep suggests you really needed the rest.
Gail, hats off to you for going to CT and taking train home. So glad you got to see your CA family. You have much more fortitude than I. Take very good care of that knee so it will heal for the next surgery. Prayers for you also. Quick recovery for DSiL.
Ruth and Karen what interesting vacations you have had. So much in this country to see and do, happy you have the health to enjoy that.
Sharon, no storms last night? We got nothing also, not even rain and are in need of some again. Think south east Iowa finally got a little, they need a lot of rain to catch up.
Sandy, good to hear the girls now have a room of their own. We all need a little space at times. When does DGD school start? Our kids start Aug. 23rd. Not sure Gpa and I are ready for that as we may have daily road service particularly for pre schooler. Difficult being a single parent of 3, so we will do what needs to be done as others work. Good luck to both your girls.
Geri, swim suits, good for you with your shopping also your visit to Ohio. Food and driving seem to go hand in hand. Hurray for the ounces lost.
Vicki sounds like a very good rain for you. And yes heat seems to be returning. I am also ready for fall just don't care for the following season.
Joanne, good on no weight gain for WW, I find the scales at my WW and TOPS don't sync. It can be done and you are proving that.
My one word yesterday to describe my life would be "blessed" and "thankful". Blessed in the fact that three teens children enjoy spending a day with Grandma 75 years old and can't walk fast enough to keep up with them. Thankful that they are patient with me and we all returned home safely and they enjoyed their day. At least they all thanked me and said "again next year". We will hope that happens.
Friday I we started preparations for the Ice Cream Supper for Community Center upkeep. We churned 6 freezers of ice cream, 1 1/2 gallon each. We have 3 White Mountain freezers and had trouble keeping the motor's running. Got done about 7 pm. Saturday, I baked 3 different pans of dessert bars. At 1:30 that afternoon we started cooking the meat for burgers. Supper and clean up was all done about 8pm. Once again all this work for almost no profit as people just do not seem to attend. Hoping the other members have finally figured out we should not try this AGAIN. I will gladly give them an extra $25.00.
Then spent yesterday with the teens, today I am totally wore out so did not attend either of my weigh in meetings. Also starting today Gpa and I are in charge of getting Jennah to band practice daily for the next 2 weeks. Gpa today, me tomorrow. Her dad or uncle is supposed to see she get home at noon.
Enjoy your evening. Prayers for all in need. Also can't forget the one's in the forest fire paths.

Don't know where the day has gone today. I did manage to go to Fit 4 Life Class. I have 2 yoga classes tonight. Next week I will be back to my fall schedule with 4 yoga classes as school starts on Monday.
Jane, Prayers for healing for Don & for you. Sorry your back pain is returning without your pool hanging. Like the stewardesses say: Put your oxygen mask on first. You can't help others if you don't take care of yourself first.
Happy birthday Karen!
Joanne, That is how we all should be living our life: Enjoy ourselves but watch the portions. Yes, it can be done!
Gail, I am so proud of how you are handling this setback. You are quite an inspiration to us all!

Karen E, We were posting at the same time. You are such a busy lady. I don't know how you manage to do it all, but then again, none of us on this thread are slackers. Blessed and thankful are wonderful words!

Karen C safe travels and return home. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!🎉🎂
Gail how did you manage getting a shingles shot. Can you drive a little?
Jane keeping prayers going for you and Don. I don’t remember that you’ve ever slept 10 hours, but I am grateful that you did.
Yes we had storms last night too. 2:00 am. Don went back to sleep and I laid awake 2 hours. In the camper I don’t want to get up and wake Don.
This morning I went with my DSIS to her registered nutritionist for pre-diabetes counseling. Very interesting, glad I went.
We are at the WC now and I’ve walked, don’t weights and pedaled. The scale here is not friendly.
Waving to all. Sharon

I was actually at the hospital when the DR. came in. He said this was all caused by Don's cancer and if he had other episodes of being disoriented to come back. An hour later 2 Dr. from Don's cancer center came in and said it was not caused by the cancer. So 2 Dr. contradicting each other. Then we had the dismissal nurse reading instructions and Don is to stop the latest med. This was the med just increased by the heart Dr. and approved by the kidney DR. and now they say to stop it altogether. So as far as I am concerned there is nothing correct in any of this. The last two days then Don did not have this med and I will call those 2 DR. tomorrow and see if I can get them to understand what the hospital has said and tell me who to believe. The Dr. who dismissed him--the first one mentioned above--said to go see the primary and the cancer Dr. within a week. He just saw the primary on Wed and the caner one about 10 days ago. So why do we need to go back now --for what!! So the Dr. Don was to see tomorrow is the gastro Dr. and I had canceled him so called and got him back for tomorrow.
Do you see my frustration? The tests run do not really show anything new. Why Don is confused is not because the blood is thick and slowing down brain function....not according to the cancer group. And the confusion is still there. The Dr. says you can go home and about 30 min. later Don tells me they are coming in to put another port in his hand. He had been told that before I got there and I said but you are going home so they have no need to put a port in again. Then he tells a nurse that I had grab bars put in all over the house when it was built. No I had only 2 put in and they are in the shower. So Don is home and is he better--doubtful as far as I am concerned. They want to send therapists to work with him at home --one 3 times a week and another 2 times a week. I said how can he pay for that? So she said she would check the insurance. He can't pay $200 $300 a week for this so they are going to have to find a way to do this for a lot less than that.

I can drive a bit, but did too much of it today. The hardest thing is getting into the car. Try to do that without bending your knee.
Got the shingles shot, then went to give Lola away.hat was hard. But the young woman who took her has loved her since I got her...whenever she was groomed or boarded. Her parents were there too and they showered her with cuddles. I think it'll work out well. I cried all the way home but let's face it. This is as good as it could get AND I was risking my life walking her with crutches.
DSIL is home already and feeling much better. They don't keep you in the hospital very long today after surgery.
Good luck with Don, Jane. It is important to take care of yourself.
Going to bed early. Exhausted.

I finally finished posting my vacation pics on FB.
Gail, so sorry you had to part with Lola. Been there, done that and it is so hard but best in the long run. We were both fortunate to find good homes for our beloved pets.
