Cat, I keep forgetting to ask you how our plantar fasciitis is? Are you still getting in steps? I haven't been wearing my FitBit.

Kathie, I'm sorry I didn't see your question earlier. DGS was in Leipzig for a semester at the university there. We are all happy to have him home. He'll graduate form the university of Oklahoma next May, and they who knows where he'll go -- as Dr. Seuss would say! Diane

Connie, I’ve been doing my exercises so feet are good. I have to walk the halls with the hot days.
Flounder for lunch! I hear a nap calling me.

My Journal Days 5 and 6:
Day 5 was Sunday. Drew slept in because he had been up until 4:30 this morning finishing a class on U.S. time. I did laundry at their house, and we all relaxed.
Day 6: Drew called to let us know that he was planning a trip to Cologne for us this afternoon. He had to run a few errands, then let us know that he was ready to pick us up. We went by the house to collect Michaela and a few snacks, then we were off down an autobahn! The fast speed is unnerving!
First, we delivered Michaela’s paperwork to the school she will be attending just outside Dusseldorf.
Cologne is the largest city in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth most populated city in Germany (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich). Cologne is about 45 kilometres (28 mi) southeast of DĂĽsseldorf. It was first settled in 38 BC. The city was 90% destroyed in World War II. Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine, near Germany's borders with Belgium and the Netherlands.
The city's famous Cologne Cathedral is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The spires were visible from a far distance. The cathedral was begun in 1248, but not completed until 1880. The two west towers are 515 feet high. At one time, just after they were finished in 1880, they were the highest construction in the world, but they were replaced when the Washington Monument was built.
We were met by priests at the doors where any women who were wearing spaghetti straps (or no straps) were asked to cover their shoulders. If they didn’t have a garment with them, they were given a garment to use.
In 1164, the Archbishop of Cologne was presented with the bones of the Three Wise Men from the East. They were immediately brought to Cologne from Milan. From then on, thousands made the pilgrimage from all over Europe to visit the relics. The Pilgrimage of the Magi played an important part in the social and economic development of the city. Between 1190 and 1220, Nicolas of Verdun, the foremost goldsmith of the period, and the artists in his workshop created a golden shrine for the much-revered relics.
The location of the present cathedral was almost certainly the focal point of Christians living in the area in Roman times. Churches of ever-larger size replaced the building that stood on the site before them. They formed a circle known as the “Holy Cologne.” (From Cologne Cathedral by Barbara Schock-Werner) Windows that were demolished with bombs during World War II have been replaced with clear glass leaded windows. There are no adequate words to describe this cathedral. So much work done by so many hands over so many years.
After walking around in this fabulous edifice, we had pizza on the bank of the Rhine River, then walked around the cobblestone streets surrounding the cathedral and the train station. It was a wonderful afternoon! We arrived back at the hotel at 9:45, and are preparing for our trip to the Mosel Valley tomorrow.
(I have added photos below from a tour book that we purchased. I'm not sure ProBoards will allow them to stay, since it's probably copywrited. I took them from the book because they showed more of the cathedral than our puny phones could take at the time. )

Cat, no, but I'd like to. I'd love to scrapbook like some of these younger gals -- like Linda does. Maybe others of you. Maybe I should take a class (in my spare time)!

Nothing new to report here.. Smoky skies keep us inside most of the time. My eyes are itching and watering from it all.. but still I consider myself lucky in light of all that some have gone through.. Many homes lost and seven dead this last week. Fires are so devastating. We need a good hard rainstorm.
Lucy, my dog gets really sick with that flea stuff.. We only use half the tube on him and that seems to do the trick.. Yesterday he got his rabies shot.. today he threw up. touchy little thing.
My bedtime. Jenny
