I think doing groups would be only a positive for Connect. Especially if they can be "by invitation only" so strangers can't drop in. And for those wondering why WW does the full Connect on phone apps but not for the browser I sort of understand it. I mean, I think they should do it for the computer. I hate typing on a phone. So I would love having it fully implemented on the browser. This quote from the earnings call kind of says it all:
Digital first—desktop eventually...maybe...maybe not.

zazzles, Oh, yes, Connect groups would definitely need to be by invitation. Well, you could have options like Facebook. You could set it to allow people to apply but the moderator of the group could accept or reject. Or you could have a public group if you wanted but you wouldn't have to. And, you could set posts to private for the group only. I can understand why they put mobile first. On my blog about 50% of my views come on iOS. About 20% is on Android. So, about 70% is mobile. And, I think blogs are on of those things that are much easier to read on a desktop monitor if you have a choice. And, in general, my blog skews older given the subject matter and, well, me and my own age. Younger people tend to not read blogs. Much more likely to be found on social media or maybe watching a vlog on you tube. I used to read tons of blogs and many of them have gone by the wayside. Anyway, while I do understand WW putting mobile first, I am puzzled by them not fixing clear bugs in their software. For example, the bug with activity monitors. I see this myself and my readers say that they have this issue with activity monitors other than Fitbit. If I record an activity on Fitbit and then delete it to correct it, then WW will record the activity twice. This happens a lot as Fitbit doesn't let you edit activities you have logged. You have to delete and start over if there is an error. So there was a day I entered a session on my exercise bike on Fitbit. I got the duration wrong and deleted it and put it in correctly. The end result on Fitbit was I had one 30 minute bike session. On WW though I got 2 FitPoints twice -- once for the incorrect duration and once for the correct 30 minute duration. As I say, others tell me they have had this issue with activity monitors other than Fitbit. What dumbfounds me is that this has been reported to WW and it hasn't been changed. You might think that this might not come up often and there are not often errors on Fitbit activities. But, they are common. For example, it is super easy to put in an activity as happening in the AM when it should be PM (or vice versa). The only way to correct it is to delete the activity and re-enter it. Fitbit handles that fine. WW doesn't handle that at all. This is the kind of error that people do notice. I've had plenty of people express frustration on this particularly people who are more active. You would think that if WW wanted to attract a younger crowd who is more into wellness that this would be the kind of thing they would want to fix. I understand the desire of WW to do mobile first and to do more with technology. I am just puzzled by why they don't do it better. For a long time, I thought it was because their members skewed older and weren't always up on technology. But, it seems we are well beyond that now. First, they want younger members and, second, even many older members use technology now and expect stuff to work.

Kitty, Seems to me that in the last quarter’s earnings call and in some interviews Mindy Grossman has copped to the fact that they don’t do technology well and has said that it is a major focus since she has taken over. So things may take a while to get better, but when they do it may be a WOW. As for the activity trackers, that problem existed even before the new web site and app. I could be incompetence on WW’s part, but it could be a technological limitation based on the data they get from Fitbit and others. If the data they get doesn’t come with some kind of identifier, then WW has no way of knowing which entry they copied should be deleted. Still, WW could give members the option to delete one or more entries and/or completely resync with them deleting all entries first. But as for digital first, I understand that and agree it is “where it’s happening.” However, Connect is now what I’d call version 1 and they’re talking about version 2. It would be nice (and we all expected) to see the complete feature set of version 1 on the desktop before they went off to create a version 2. That is something I find disappointing—desktop users as step children.

zazzles, Yes, I am hopeful that they will get there and that they will do it well. There are things on the mobile app that they do really well. Even though I do most stuff on my desktop computer (I like the keyboard and dual monitors) there are some things that are far easier to do on the app. Yes, the activity problem has been there for a long time. I don't know if it is a limitation in the activity monitor end of it. You would think that if it was truly syncing with Fitbit that if an activity was deleted on Fitbit that the syncing would update that as well. That said -- the truly obvious solution is to allow you on WW to delete an activity from an activity monitor. There seems no reason not to allow that. You can delete activities you enter. Seems like it would be possible to allow deleting an activity from an activity monitor. Although perhaps the problem is that if you could delete it, then it would be added back at the next sync. Still there has to be some way to solve this problem. And, if they are going to be basing rewards on your number of steps or activity done then they need to fix this. Yes, I think they should fix the desktop software as well. That said, WW is not the only company not to do that. I record my food in MFP but about 90% of the time I use the app as it is so, so, so much easier to do it on the app. I would love to have the same features on the desktop that they have for the app. And, I even am a paid user.

I’m confused. How does the fact that the Weight Watchers quarterly report says they are doing well financially jive with the fact that the financial section just reported that their stock is down?

I’m confused. How does the fact that the Weight Watchers quarterly report says they are doing well financially jive with the fact that the financial section just reported that their stock is down? Easy. There are always forward-looking projections for how a company will do NEXT quarter. Beause WW did so well last quarter, stock analysts expected WW to revise their estimates for the current quarter upward but WW did not do so. So the analysts were disappointed. In the stock market game, companies are expected to beat themselves every quarter and year; and any glitch causes the stock price to go down.
