People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Not sure what we'll do today. Might try going to Costco but just not much into doing anything. Very tired of it being so hot and humid, really want Fall but still a ways off for that!
This afternoon is Jeff's next court session for his criminal charges. Not sure what happens but hope he takes a plea deal so the kids don't have to go to court. I'll be able to check online what happens as it gets entered into court records almost immediately since everything is electronic.
For some reason am just really hungry these past few days and my weight is showing it! I'm sure it's the stress but have to keep telling myself eating everything in sight is not going to help!

Good Morning!
Sandy, I also hope that Jeff takes plea deal in criminal case so that the kids don't have to testify. The event was traumatizing enough for them. I also woke up very hungry and was hungry last night, too. I am not sure what is up with that. I may need more water.
Today I am meeting one of my students for coffee after yoga class. She is taking yoga teacher training. She will make a wonderful teacher and I am hoping to pass my 2 classes in Land O Lakes to her after she completes her certification next year. I love both of those classes but as traffic in the area keeps getting heavier due to growth the 40 minute commute is making less sense to me.
This afternoon I am supposed to go to lunch with girlfriends at a Mexican restaurant. I may pass on that as Mexican just does not sound good to me today.
QOTD: Do you purposefully lose weight before vacation so that you can enjoy indulges while on vacation? What weight gain or loss are you happy with when on vacation? If you lose weight on vacation what did you do differently? If you gain on vacation is it harder to lose that weight than normal?
AOTD: I do not purposefully lose weight but I do WI before I go and do not WI the day after I fly. After our VT vacation I am happy to report that I lost .2. I did watch my portions and eliminated carbs but did enjoy some treats. I did not snack at night, which was not planned. We played games at night, so my nighttime snacking at home must be due to boredom. Hmmm.... I also walked 1 mile after dinner each day, which was difficult in the mountains but the scenery was enjoyable. I went to 2 yoga classes in addition to spending a day at Kripalu. I am happy as long as I don't gain more than 3 lbs on vacation because any more than that takes forever to lose.

Good morning friends. I find this midwest weather delightful and spend as much time as possible outside. Rain all next week though. As they say here, the farmers need it.
Ruth you did wonderfully on vacation. You are an inspiration.
AOTD - Do you purposefully lose weight before vacation so that you can enjoy indulges while on vacation? No, if I could purposely lose weight, I’d be at goal.
What weight gain or loss are you happy with when on vacation? A gain of 2-3 lbs at most.
If you lose weight on vacation what did you do differently? Haha, funny. If you gain on vacation is it harder to lose that weight than normal? No
Karen E you reminded me that I did well last summer. This summer seems I am not as dedicated.
I’ve decided not to go to the wellness center with Don today, but rather take one of those wonderful long walks through this lovely campground like I used to.

Good morning!
Sandy, I'm hoping that Jeff does the smart thing and takes the plea deal. It would be in the best interest of everyone involved.
Ruth, enjoy your coffee date with your student and also your lunch date (if you decide to go).
Sharon, I'm glad you've been enjoying our weather here in the Midwest. It's been a bit too hot and humid for me the last few days but this won't last forever.
AOTD: I don't purposely lose weight before a vacation but I do try to make wise choices (for the most part) My goal usually is to stay the same. It's not harder to lose vacation weight but it's always a bit disappointing to lose that weight for a 2nd time so I try to get back on track as soon as I get home.
I'm out the door in a few minutes to head to my meeting and then grocery shopping and working at church.

Temps to be about 93 degrees today, very humid. Cats feed, bird feeders filled and up, bills paid and a couple greeting cards all in mailbox, picked several tomatoes, need to can them Saturday. Quilt top completed last night.
Do I purposely lose weight for vacation, no. What weight gain am I happy with, would rather loose but small gain is tolerable. If I lost weight it would be from a lot of walking. If I gain would it be harder to lose, no I don't think so.
Need to find another project to keep me out of the food. Could start son's quilt but not today. Hubby has had two off days so sort of waiting if he decides to go somewhere. Need to take a small check yo the bank. By the way someone robbed our bank Monday. Have not heard much about that.
Have a good day. Waving !!!!!!

Wow a bank robbery Karen. I always worried about that when I was in banking.
The weather is 84 and I am enjoying shade and a light breeze on our patio. I’ve been reading Yellow Raft on Blue Water, so I think I’ll go back to that this afternoon. Don is reading one of the f Scott Fitzgerald books.
I did take a nice long walk and decided to go with Don to the WC. I took my suit and went to the pool. There was an arthritis water aerobics class about to start so I joined that. It was an hour long, I am going to feel it tomorrow.

Sharon, I love your idea of forgoing the wellness center and replacing it with a long walk. I swear that is what helped keep my weight steady. Plus it gave me a little alone time, which is equally as important.
I decided to pass on lunch with girlfriends at the new Mexican restaurant. I also skipped book club last night because I do not like the food at this particular country club. They make us choose from a limited menu and none of it WW friendly. The last time we went there I called in a To-Go order of grilled salmon on some greens and ate it at the table with my friends. I am such a rebel. LOL

Jane, Hope you have been able to get a little rest. There is no sense in either of us telling you now, but after you get your Smart TV either Sharon or I will be happy to help you navigate through the apps.
Yesterday's QOTD: it’s time to visit our weight loss goals again.
1) What is your short term goal? To get back to goal (or 2 lbs above) 2) What is your end game goal? To maintain goal weight (or 2 lbs above), continue being healthy and free of meds. 3) What is your Long term goal? I am Lifetime and currently pay for Etools. My long term goal is to get that for FREE again. I only need to be 2 lbs over goal. It is doable!

Hello friends.
Sandy, I am hoping for as easy a process as possible for Debbie and Maija.
With each day I try something new. Today it was to use the town RIDE to go food shopping. The driver was wonderful. I found that I could use them to go to my doctor's appointments in Concord. This is a huge help. I am experiencing some pain today and am about to take a nap as the trip wore me out. I got a lobster at the supermarket and had it for lunch. Just 4.99 a pound and they steam it for you. Just finished it. Yum.
QOTD: Do you purposefully lose weight before vacation so that you can enjoy indulges while on vacation? What weight gain or loss are you happy with when on vacation? If you lose weight on vacation what did you do differently? If you gain on vacation is it harder to lose that weight than normal?
AOTD: I lose on vacation when I am very active. I also WI before and after. And if I gain I just go back on track when I return. I am in that situation right now.
To bed for a while. Have a good one.

Another day is almost done...thankful for that. This is the day they cut the grass so the mowers were outside my window at 7:00. This is trash pick up day and the truck was on the street about 7:45. I did manage to go back to sleep between those noises. That shows how tired I am. Don is sleeping better because of a pill and I woke him up at 9. I knew I had no time to go to the pool but was planning on getting some of my exercise done when the phone started ringing. So after 2 calls I had 10 min so did 5 min. of heat and 5 min. of exercise and ate 2 cookies since I had no time for breakfast and got Don to the Dr. office just in time. Then we waited. Finally the Dr. saw him and what a complete waste of time this was. I felt he blew us off. Now this is the primary and they called yesterday because of the hospital notify and said to come in. WASTE of our time and mad at the DR. now. He thinks maybe sleep apnea causes Don to be disoriented. So recommends that testing. Said go back to the pain management Dr. DUH yes I had to cancel that on Tuesday because Don was in the hospital. Maybe the Dr. had an issue going on today but I sure felt neglecting for Don. When we got in the car Don mentioned it so he felt it and it wasn't just me feeling that way. Then we went to pick up my med and to publix. complete strangers are very nice to us when they see how hard it is for Don. I really appreciate that. Got everything put away and I ate breakfast and Don had a bite for his lunch. Then I went to the pool for only a very short time. My back is hurting and I am trying to get the things done that help but really rushed. I did not try to get haircuts so will see if we can manage that tomorrow. My stomach is upset. I know it is stress.
Ruth and Sharon---I will appreciate your help whenever I can get around to getting the new TV. right now it is just not convenient to go shop for one.
just waving to everyone

Looks like Jeff took a plea deal and has a fine and probation as it shows in the court records the jury trial was cancelled. Now hope the divorce moves forward.

i am even more disgusted with the primary DR. I got a phone call about home health services for PT and OT and nurse visits and told them I couldn't agree until I knew the cost. So they told me to call the insurance and I did. I talked to a man who frustrated me even more when he said Don didn't have a primary DR. and I said you have been paying him for the past 4 years so why do you say that. Well the name isn't listed he said. Then he said since you have a pPO it doesn't have to be. OK So why did he say that. Then he said the primary has to authorize it and then it is zero out of pocket. So why didn't the primary say that to us and authorize it. I called the primary and talked to someone and told them this so the Home Health service is calling me tomorrow. I will probably have to care the primary again tomorrow and ask if they authorized it. The fact the hospital said it was needed didn't seem to matter but only the primary Dr. matters.
Sandy Glad for that plea deal.
