My oldest sister that lives in N.C. and all her family are preparing for the hurricane. Her daughter lives in Charlotte . They have just bought a beautiful summer home on Kiawah Island SC. Her son (my sister’s) lives on the N.C. coast, Laurinburg. So they are all at risk. Keep them all in your prayers I hope Holly is also preparing! They are saying now that HA might also be affected. I put the patio furniture in the garage, brought my flowers in also just in case. Just started I a pair of socks- knitting.

Hi!
I can't believe it's been a while since I posted, time flying by so fast.
Jojo, I hope your relatives stay safe. Scary that these storms seem to get worse and worse and more often. It used to be we get hit once every few years but now it's constant. The one out in Phillipines, Hong Kong is HUGE.
Holly, hope you and your family are getting through this ok.
Joan, glad you like your hair cut How did your book club go? The girls weekend in NYC sounds fun! I really wish my sister had some daughters! One of my cousins (my mom's younger sisters daughter) has 1yr old girl, so cute and soooo spoiled by everyone.
Last Tues was volunteer day, Thurs another cataract follow up. Eye is somewhat better but it's just going to take time. The lens they put on my is twice as thick as the one that most regular people have, so it's just going to take time to adjust.
I've also been getting organized for the trip, buying lots of stuff.
Last night our neighbors invited us over for drinks along with another neighbor couple and then we were going to go out to dinner but she had cheese and other snacks so we ended up not going out. It was fun. Both couples travel a lot so it's sometimes hard to get together.
Pretty soon I'm going on the 2 week low carb diet.

Sue, I figured you would be starting your diet soon—LOL—you should rename it the Cruise Diet!
I am eating a forbidden rice bowl for lunch. Threw a few slices of delicatta squash on top—oh my, so tasty! I made enough for BC that I could have rice bowls for lunch every day for the better part of a week. Love it so much.
Sue, I know what you mean about girls—I love my DGS’s but honestly it is so much fun to be with the girls—I don’t have to hear about cars and sports statistics or hunting with the girls and we talk so much more about how people think and feel—amazing how differently we still raise the two genders.
I talked to DGD18 today—she met up with some of the dancers for the first time and they went out in Brooklyn for pizza—makes me so nervous because that means she comes home alone but I guess I just have to hope and trust that all goes well. Still her mom and I were so glad because in two weeks it is the first time she has done anything with others and she needs to make friends in order to be happy and feel at home. She told me it was fun and everyone was nice and then she said, “I feel like 18 year olds should not be home reading a book on a Friday night so it made me happy.” LOL
JoAnne is Atlanta getting slammed with a fair amount of rain as well? I am so glad my classmate friend got out of Charleston early enough (it took her nearly 10 hours to drive and it’s not nearly that far)—she is in Atlanta with a neice. The rain in unbelieveable!
DD broke up with her Florida BF yesterday. He came on Wed afternoon and already by Thursday night got pretty out of it on wine and beer—and she told him (for about the fifth time) that she cannot be in a relationship that involves this kind of drinking. The next morning when she was at work he texted her that he couldn’t really deal with DGS14–thinks he is spoiled and she doesn’t take lightly his criticism of how he handles things with him—so he was leaving and that was it. He flew home—weird that he left his clothes that he had brought as well as some that he leaves here—now she has to box them up and send them. I told her to ask him how he wants to get them—anyway, I liked him but also saw that this binge drinking was much like DH used to do—life since his being complet3ely off alcohol is just so much better that I hated to see her accommodating that once again in her life. I also sensed that he , while he was trying to like DGS, was really struggling—his girls are adults—he admitted once that he had promised himself he would never get involved with a woman who had kids at home. If he had told her months ago, “Hey, I love you but I am really struggling with having DGS around all the time—I need to go to some counseling if we are going to be together or this won’t work—then maybe they could have worked things though regarding him but I think he just felt more and more trapped with a kid he wasn’t wanting to deal with if he could not have some say so in how he was handled. The real dilemma of the non-step parenting that happens when women with kids have serious relationships but do not marry and agree that they will both have equal opportunity to say how problems are handled. And, as I have said before, DGS can be annoying—he doesn’t really misbehave , it’s just easy to get tired of his not having a sense of when to be quiet and stay out of discussions with adults, —with DH and I we know we can say, “Enough from you now—we are talking with your mom” and get away with it—I think for him to do that he would risk DD being critical that he was overstepping his authority—so he was in a bind I believe. Had he not been a binge drinker, I would be telling her to get busy and get counseling together and work this out. But the drinking has not always been around DGS—it has happened when she goes to visit by herself as well. So it’s a problem anyway . I am hoping this time it sticks and they actually end this—maybe too early for her to get in a completely bound relationship—still lots to learn and work through.

All our friends we usually do things with are busy or gone this weekend—thinking we may go to a 3 pm matinee of Eighth Grade—I really wanted to see it—and then out for dinner just the two of us. I was going to do some cooking today but going to four grocery stores has taken my time up completely—I walked this morning, too, so got a late start as I slept in till 7 am so walk was kind of late for me.
Holly, hope you are okay??

Disappointed==DH at last minute decides it’s too much bother to go to the movie—ugh! I was ready to go—he had taken a nap and quite frankly was too lazy to get up and change clothes in ten minutes and go—I hope this is not a hint of the future around here! I may have to go see this movie by myself—really want to see it.
Holly, how many inches are they predicting for your area? Are you high enough in your condo area?

6-10 I think. I’m worried about this dip in my sidewalk that tends to get a big puddle when it rains. The power’s already blinked out once. Hopefully, it won’t go out.

We were very lucky. No power outages or tremendous amount of rain. Charlotte got some flooding. Areas around Wilmington were hit really hard.

Hi!
Holly, glad you didn't have a tough time with the hurricane. So much destruction!
Jojo, how are your relatives in Charlotte and Kiawah?
Joan, sorry about the circumstances around your DDs breakup. They were together for more than a year? Did you read about the NY ballet scandal of male dancers exchanging nude pictures of female dancers? One particular girl was 19.
I'm looking into wifi for travel. Joan, did you say before that your friends have the Skyroam?
It was sunny yesterday but now it's dreary, expecting rain from the hurricane.
I have been on a buying frenzy, spending too much money.
Also have to get absentee ballots. The very first time I'm going through the trouble of getting one.

Yes, Sue, SkyRoam—he said it works really well and you can add on time while you are away—good job on getting the ballots. DGD18 will be doing that as well. I plan to register Jordan on his birthday — he is going to have a party here—has invited 30 friends—will be an all afternoon and evening open house hang out kind of birthday. On the 29th. DH’s birthday is the 27th. Not sure he was planning to spend it with 30 teens—LOL. Being married to me is such a liability!
Our new Subaru Ascent came in today and is right now being prepped for us—we will go in at 4:30 and do all the paperwork and signing—luckily won’t take as long as usual since DH has done nearly all the stuff already—no more negotiating or add ons. We will drive out to BF’s and take them to dinner since did not see them all weekend as they were babysitting grandkids. Let them experience the new car with us first hand—LOL
My mouth is still a bit sore—hurts a lot when I do the salt water gargle. Ugh. Think I will take an advil.
I was going to make a half veggie lasagna today but didn’t==lots of interruption with car and I had to pick up DGS, then I didn’t but was already half way there, then needed to get the loaner car filled—then bug guy was here and I wanted out bedroom done (don’t usually but I saw a bug in there the other day and it freaked me out). So will just eat out with them and do dinner tomorrow since we probably won’t be out of dealership until about 5:30 anyway by the time we sign off on stuff and get orientation to the car electronics before driving away. DH has it insured already so all we will have to do is get it registered. I loved driving this Subaru Forrester they loaned us! It’s too low for DH on his head though—he is so longwaisted that his head nearly hit the ceiling of the Forrester.

Wow—in love with the Subaru Ascent—OMG, it rides and drives like a dream car—today the crash test results for a bunch of new cars came out—Subaru Ascent nailed it—highest score! Yay! DH down working on getting it insured today.
I walked at 6 and then did my pilates and my gentle yoga class—feeling good.

Just lost very long post. Clicked on post quick reply and must have hit the pro-boards ad below. Hop I can remember what I posted!
Joan what size is your new car! I have driven a SUV size car so long that I don’ think I could go back to a low seating car. We loved our little Subaru we had in the 80’s. Glad you are enjoying yours.
Sue - your cruise is rounding the bend . Is clothes what you have mostly bought for the cruise?
MyDDIL’s DstepM 50 year’s old died suddenly Sunday night. She died at home walking to the bed - just fell down dead. She had Crohn’s disease and diabetes and has been in and out of the hospital for the past 2 yrs. Her husband , my DDIL’s father, is 70 and is recovering from total hip surgery , not yet driving. They have a 10 yo daughter with a rare muscular disease that makes her w/c bound, totally dependent on others. She communicates with a special laptop. Cannot use extremities or talk. They are staying with myDDIL’s Aunt right now for assistance. Please keep them in your prayers.
DS and family were. On vacation and ofcouse came home
Today I cut the grass earlier and am now resting.
Went to The hematologist yesterday. All lab was normal! Hooray! I am dismissed from him unless I have any more anemia occur.
Appt at the GI doc tomorrow.
All N C relatives Nd property are fine.. We feel blessed! The flooding is so terrible. Thieves take such advantage in these situations.
I need to get back to my strength exercises now that I have recovered from the surgery. But it is so much easier to break a habit than to make one. I never bought the Ti Chang disc either. Tell me I need to!
Be careful on the internet- I think I got scammed . Thought I was buying an Amazon gift card with my AmEx. Turned out that neither AmEx or Amazon had such a promotion. I got a new AmEx card and changed my passwords on both sites.

OMG, JoAnne—Christmas—what’s that? Geez you are so organized. We don’t buy a lot anymore tho now that the kids are older—so it won’t take long! I am flying DGD18 and fam here and back for Christmas—used up all my points to do it but worth it. Biggest amount of planning will be for Christmas breakfast and dinner.
Awaiting arrival of BF’s right now—will order in from somewhere for dinner—and then play cards—last night DH and I went with other friends to a closing concert by Earl Turner and Clint Holmes—Earl is DH of a yoga friend—he is a longtime vegas entertainer and he and Clint are good friends and both musicians. Clint was up for two Grammies for first time this year for a song called Say Something. He performed it last night—she was great.
Tomorrow night we will go hear Michelle Obama speak—picked up tickets that I signed up for some time ago—will be a lot of waiting in lines to get in I am sure.Same friends who went last night will go with us.
I made almond biscotti today—have not made any since June—I plan to send a small box to DGD in NY. She loves to have coffee and would enjoy these I know.
Yesterday by 11 last night I had walked 7.5 miles—it was a very active day—started with a 3.5 mi walk early, then gym, then met WWBF for lunch and had to park way far away, then last night the walk into the hotel was almost a mile and back! We parked way out.
Haven’t been very active today—just one class at gym and that’s it—my day of rest. Tomorrow I’ll get up and walk.
We are loving the new car.
My gray hair is growing out fast—it’s starting to peak out over the tops of my ears! Have a feeling I may be gray by Christmas at this rate. Yikes.
I made black bean soup this week—might just have a bowl of that tonight when they order out—I love it so much and didn’t have it for lunch. Finished off my butternut squash soup instead.
I have been reading a book about Katherine who was John of Gaunt’s mistress in the 1300’s. I love her story because John of Gaunt married her later in life and their line began the Tudor kings /
