Joan it is so funny to hear you say that you had Gym class today but werenât very active. If I did one active thing a day , I feel accomplished and feel very active! When I do yard work I very rarely do any other activity. You truly are amazing,, as I have always said.
Went to the memorial service for DDILâs stepmother today. DDIL spoke and did a fabulous job. She also got all the pictures together and framed them for the Picture table. All the kids were really good at the service.
I had 50 bales of pine straw come today and was able to get about half of it out in my yard. What a job! More to do!
Despite my digestive problems I have gained weight and all in the wrong places! I guess old age is catching up with me!

THe Saturday class is called reset, JoAnneâit is body rolling and a tiny bit of coreâbut not hard workâitâs meant to relax muscles after a workout week. They used to do it every Saturdayânow just when my teacher subs. So it isnât really working out.
Cannot imagine though how hard it would be to move that much straw around.

Hi all,
PT is going well. Lots of tight muscles and knots to work through.
My coworker friend is in the hospital with a suspected heart attack. They are supposed to do a cath tomorrow. Seeing the emails going back and forth makes me realize how fortunate we are to have such a caring group of coworkers despite the bickering that happens occasionally.
Jo Anne, I am working on stuff for the annual art sale. I have a couple of scarves ready to go.
Joan, I donât buy much for Christmas either.
Sue, when do you leave?

Hi!
3 more weeks to go! Have been busy buying/organizing/calling. Our refrig has been leaking, though it was fine today, hopefully, it stays ok or I'll have to call the repair guy.
Joan, I did end up buying the skyroam. Had a promotion code so got 10% off. Since we're traveling so much it makes sense to buy the device. So, question - I know I can use wifi to make domestic calls and text, but can I also use wifi for international calls/text? That party for Jordan sounds like a blast! There is a woman where I volunteer who is growing out her grey, she has some cruises coming up as well and doesn't want to deal with coloring on board
Jojo, clothes, makeup/drugstore items, we also bought those huge hardcase luggage. Sorry about your DDIL stepmom, so tough with all these health issues in her family, hoping all works out for them and father recovers soon from hip surgery. How was the GI appt?
Holly, glad that PT is helping. Hope your coworker is doing ok! Scary. Having yours and others support will make a big difference.
Thurs night we had dinner out with ex colleague, fun as usual. Today I went to my sister's to see my oldest nephew, well had to turn around and go home because of drama, stemming from my nephew. He's such a great guy, but emotional issues.

Sue, my understanding of our phones in the US is thisâif you are on wifi you are goodâif you are not you must pay a substantial fee by day, week or month depending on your carrierâor pay the fee for ship wifiâanyway, when I was in Puerto Vallarta and in Mayan Rivieraa I texted all the time with wifiâwe did not have that device but we would go to a Starbucks and I would text all the kidsâon the Mayan side our resort had free wifi. I believe you do facetime calls by wifiâand facetime calls can be audio only as well. I will text my cruise BFâs and make sureâI think you just turn off cellular data on your phone so that you donât accidentally use it when you are not on your wifi skyroam. I will post here when they answer me just to be sure since they used it in Philippines and in Hong Kong.
I am in italic modeâno idea how that occurred but I kind of like the lookâLOL
Started watching the new Masterpiece Theatre The Miniaturistâthe first episode was goodâbased in Netherlands in the 1600âs.
Went to body sculpt today and danceâsculpt was pretty hard todayâtwo things she did I did not go all the way withâdoing a plank with ankles up on the body rollerâfelt I might put too much pressure on my body with thatâjust did regular plank.
I did not walk for two daysâknees hurt when I donât walkâso am sure they are just arthriticâthe days I walk they feel fine most of the day.
I took a fall todayâwow, at the Subaru service deptâtheir curb is level with the driveway and then further down it becomes a curbâno color on it so it tends to look flat coming out of the service deptâI was looking toward DH and the service guy but following them and didnât see the step downâsprawled out on the driveway and scraped my elbow in about a dollar size abrasionâhit my left front hip pretty hard but I think itâs only going to get a bruise and not start a problem for me. I will take some advil tonight just in case but so far feeling fine other than a very sore arm where I scraped. Itâs humiliating though. I think they need to paint that curb to make it stand out that it is a different level in that areaâor paint the level part to make a distinction. Told the guy that. So glad I didnât hurt anything and suffer a setback with my back! Yikes!
Holly, so glad you feel you are making progress. There are picky little things in every work place I think but when someone has a problem if the group pulls together itâs a good sign that itâs not really deep seated resentment stuff.
JoAnne, Sounds like a terrible time for your DDILâone of our gym teachers lost her mom over the weekendâvery unexpected I guess and she was only 64ânot my regular teacher but I do see her there a lot teaching regular zumba.

Hi all,
I usually put my phone in airplane mode to turn off cellular, then turn on wifi.
My friend did end up having a heart attack, but doesnât have to have anything else surgical done after the cath, so thatâs good.
Joan, hope you are feeling ok. That sounds like quite a fall.

Wow, Holly, how old was the friend who had a heart attack?
My fall was injuring my pride more than anythingâmy left hip bone area has a bit of a bruise and I can feel it if I put pressure on it but amazingly that and two scrapes are my only actual consequences. But the realization that you can take such a fall and the memory of that feeling of no control sucks!
Did my 3 miles early this morningâat 6:20 it was only 59Âș and actually felt cold until I got up on the street I like to walk alongâworking on speeding up my walk so by the time I get home I really feel as tho I have done a workout. DS in SLC sent me a podcast about muscle health and aging and the brainâreally interesting theory about how the muscles need amino acids and you only get them from proteinâluckily there are some ways to increase protein for vegetarians so I picked up some green powder made from algae that has 16 g of protein per 2 Tblsâyesterday I put it in my spinach smoothie for lunchâby dayâs end I had 80 g of proteinâpodcast person felt my age should get close to 90âin order to reach that I had to eat quite a lot at each mealâ2 poached eggs over my harvest grain veggie saute with tofu added for breakfastâsmoothie for lunch with a T of almond butter and for dinner I had a medium red baked potatoâhalf the meat of the potato with some baked tofu, mushrooms and some more of my veggie sautee with quinoa and 1/3 of a sweet potatoâ-I literally did not feel like snacking which is amazing for meâno sugar cravings all dayâno eating between mealsâtook in about 1500 calories and was shocked to see the pie chart of my nutritionâit was literally perfect with what My Fitness Pal recommends for meâso I guess I will continue to try upping the protein and see what the long term results are. I have to admit that that breakfast after my walk feels really rightâmaybe I was not getting enough nutrition post walkâshe says you have to have something within 30 minutes of a workoutâbut it should be relatively substantial in protein. Meals have to have carbs and fat with the protein.
The most counterintuitive thing in the podcast was this: In aging people, the less exercise and movement you do the more crucial high protein consumption is because you are losing muscle tone at such a high rate by not movingâand the amino acid increase protects the muscles to some degree. BF is constantly cutting her DHâs meal intake because he eats so many snacks and is gaining and does not exercise everâI sent it to her and told her she should try giving him larger, high protein meals and maybe he would find it difficult to add so many sugary high carb snacks if he felt full and satisfied.
The podcast talked about muscle health and how it is directly correlated with brain functionâwas really interesting. The person was Dr. Gabrielle Lyons and the podcast was on Broken Brain which my DS listens to regularly for insight about his concussive problems.

Holly I always tell DH he ought to be out here in the kitchen learning how to cook because if by chance I die first he will be eating crap and have to marry some woman fast in order to keep the meals flowing and he could get a real b@tch and regret it the rest of his life! All because he does not cook! LOL
Gottaâ get going on making my taco filling and getting the salsa made and in the fridgeâhave not prepared anything for Jordanâs party yet!

Hi!
I have been glued to tv news the last few days, OMG!
Busy still with prepping for trip. The drip pan under our refrigerator is overfulling if we don't empty it out, not good. Repairman coming on Wed. This has happened occasionally in the past but much more this last week.
Joan, I am such a clutz, always tripping. Knowing that I am always looking down when I walk. So Jordan's party is today? Good thing I love animal proteins, my problem is carbs, and wine/cocktails.
Holly, glad your friend does not have to have heart surgery.
Jojo, so impressive that you got all your Christmas shopping done! I'll have 1 week after I return from my trip before Christmas. Hoping I can find some stuff on the trip to bring back.
Well, without me, SO would eat snack foods. He does not cook, at all. Maybe he'll buy frozen meals and use the microwave without me. He would never order takeout.
Volunteered last Tues, 2 more weeks of volunteering to go. I started my diet yesterday, am already down 2 but I know it's mostly water.
I got the skyroam, but I will not be able to use it on most of the smaller islands in the South Pacific. I can use it in Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.

Just got back from walking back from the parkâwalked there for a 9 am yoga class with DD who is starting a free Soulful Senior Yoga in the park. An old friend from WW in 2008 showed up as wellâfirst time Iâve seen her in 8 years! It was just the three of us but DD did a great jobâtwo more people came by and made a commitment to come in two weeksâshe is doing this every other week. Was so beautiful looking up at the sky doing yoga outside.
Have to start peeling and cooking the shrimp for Jordanâs tacosâmaking traditional and shrimp tacosâmad my salsa and beef taco filling last night. Have to get busy now. DH will pick up Jordan at 12:30. Friends start coming at 2.
Sue, the news is so depressing for womenâhave we gone completely backward! I feel so sorry for my grand daughters and the message they are gettingâ
Okâgottaâ get moving.
Oh, Sue, you cannot use the wifi thing on the ship? We are going to be missing you!
Oh, ate 2000 calories yesterday with my usual workouts and my walkingâ85 g or proteinâOMG Iâm down another pound! So does this mean all along Iâve not been eating enough? Of course not all calories are friendly onesâapparently the ones Iâm eating now are! I am so psyched! I remember Sue, your saying that you didnât think I was eating enough calories!

Mornings have been beautifulâstill getting in high 80âs in the pm but you know with low humity that is pretty comfy. Usually on or about Halloween we get actual fall weather where it feels chilly.
Walked every day but Mondayâbut got lots of mileage on Monday with classes and grocery shopping at several stores. I have been consistently getting over 12,000 steps a day now. Woke up feeling stiff and sore, walked anyway and in half a block felt greatâthat is the conundrumâwhen I feel worse I need more than ever to move!
I have yoga (hard yoga) and weights class today and a dental cleaning at 3 pmâdid I tell you all that I discovered that I still like shrimpâat Jordanâs party, while grilling it I tasted and loved itâam going to buy some today and have shrimp tonight with soup and salad. Easy way to get a big bump up of protein without mega calories.
Sue what day do you fly to LA to embark?
fFound out yesterday that DH has started walking in the park while I am at the gymâhoping he keeps that upâI think heâs done it a couple daysâmaybe if I stay âunawareâ of it he will keep it upâI think he feels guilty when I get up every morning and walkâI really love the early morning sights, sounds and smellsâmakes me feel good for the day!
