surfgirl, Hmmmmm...I actually work to get water into the ear area. Sounds like the water was getting in, but couldn't get back out. For me, I think my mucous tends to be too thick, and the neti pot thins it out and keeps things from getting clogged up. One thing that I do is gargle at the same time as I have my head tilted up (in the shower of course). Maybe that allows that area to drain? When I get a cold, the sinuses near my ear often don't drain until several weeks after the front sinuses. I also have allergies, and I think the neti pot helps to wash out some of the allergens. When my ear has gotten really bad and clogged up and painful, I put some nasal spray into the neti pot, and try to let that sit near the ear area. It usually works. Of course, nasal spray can have a rebound effect, so I don't want to do that on a regular basis. I usually only do it if I'm in pain, mostly after flying.

Tammy, maybe I didn't use the pot correctly? I don't do it in the shower, I do it leaning over the sink...maybe that was the problem?

Hello, everyone--midway through the week after Easter.
Went for a mid-afternoon lunch with DSis and DBIL, midway between Sis and my birthdays. Did a wine tasting as we waited, but ordered a healthy entree. Most of the lethal lo from Easter are out of the fridge except for DBIL's wonderful lemon cake.
May not have mentioned here that I did my LT weigh in last week and actually lost 3.2# from previous month. My guess is I found some of it this week.
Surf, hope you are feeling better, and Tammy, hope things are progressing with your Dad.

Oh Janice, lemon cake is my Achilles heel! if it's got coconut in it too, even better! I am indeed feeling better now, but man, these international colds and flus must knock me on my butt for at least two weeks lately. no travel plans right now, so focusing on gym, started back at ballet tonight and it kicked my butt, and trying to get back on the tracking wagon.
ladies, what's new with you?

So I do confess that DBIL's wonderful lemon cake did call to me a bit. Had a sliver earlier in the week, but last night DH and I ate it properly, sitting at a table (with tea for him and coffee for me) when we returned home from the theater. It was delightful, still moist because of the lemon curd, and now it is Gone!

As we are getting to the end of April and the next few days are rather hectic, I would like to note my May goal is
Janice--Limit sugar and white flour
Sometimes eating mindfully means "Have another piece of lemon cake? Don't mind if I do."
So I need to be specific.

janicel4, Janice, Congrats on your loss. I will probably keep my goal, although I did get phase I of my long term project done this week, and I did a presentation last week. I still have to write the paper for the presentation, and I still have other phases of my project. surfgirl, Sometimes I do the neti pot over the sink, but I can't get as many angles that way. I need the shower to get all the angles. However, I have used a towel to do it in bed to get a slightly different angle, and to let myself "steep". May WI will be my 5 year at goal anniversary.

I am doing really shitty right now in my MLJ. I just cannot seem to get on track. I keep veering off. I know I'm doing it WHILE I'm fucking doing it. Maybe I'm crazy? The working out is fine, it's the tracking and snacking...the 'acking'...

surfgirl, I think the point of the Beck work is to get yourself to realize that certain behaviors are self-destructive. And then to teach yourself how to speak to yourself when you get into that situation where you are starting to do self-destructive things. Although that is great news that you are working out, you lose weight in the kitchen.

ladies, any changes to your July goals?
BTW, I have not been around since May 4th because on May 5th my husband had a heart attack and was in hospital for a week and then home recouping and I've been getting back on my own feet now. we are very lucky that he is doing really well though, so thankful for that.

surfgirl, glad your husband is getting better and make sure you take care of yourself as well.
Tammy, thanks for letting us know. My laptop is sometimes flaky and slow, so much of my social communication has been on iPhone.
Looked at the fact that while this is named the July thread, our May goals are still there. While I thought of changing my goal here to 'Resume tracking', I actually think keeping it the same--Limit sugar and white flour--might be a better goal as we have another vacation next month.
