SHORT AND SWEET GODDESSES - February 2017

Hi all,

This week I am going to start working on being more mindful of my limits at work and be content to work more from behind the scenes. Now that the newness has finally worn off and I have been able to demonstrate my skills, I should be able to relax and let people come to me if they need me.

My dad and uncle have the same birthday, but 7 years apart, on Wednesday. We did a family get together for it. That was what the cake was for. My grandmother used to make that kind.

JoJo, I like it. Just have to muster up the energy to cook.

Sue, hope the internship went well today.

Joan, I'll have to check it out. Have you read Ender's Game? One of my coworkers is reading the series. I want to reread Ender's Game so I can read the rest of the series.

Joan, that's awesome that you have such a good relationship. I hope to find that one day. I am much more content with being single now though than I was in my 20s.

JoJo, I donated two scarves I made from KnitPicks yarn to the church youth Valentine's auction, and they ended up earning around $50 for the youth group to use towards trips this summer. Love those behind the scenes forms of ministry.

JoAnne, when DH and I were dating and seriously talking about marrying---we both talked about things that bothered us in our first marriages---my two requests were to have fidelity and no using me for the brunt of jokes or sarcasm around others---and he has been really good about both---the first I knew he would be because it is just who he is, but thankfully, he has never done the other either.  His requests were easy on me---not to have the sterile marriage he had before (guess you know what I mean) and always have time. To do things together.  So I think we worked things out pretty well--really, when DH quit drinking, which was the biggest challenge (binge social drinking, not every day alcoholism) things just got really positive in the little ways that were lacking when we were dealing with his drinking and my reaction to it!  So I feel fortunate for sure--and Dh has a great sense of humor---he is always doing stuff to make me laugh---like last night when I crawled in bed he had stuck a decorative pillow under the covers on my side and was lying there faking being asleep waiting for me to discover the problem--he goes to great lengths to do stuff like that---puts money in my shoes, silly stuff---but it's fun.  He's not perfect but neither am I---I don't bug him about his messes cause he's a clutterer big time, but I don't pick up after him cause I told him I'd never be his mom---that's why we keep our housecleaning lady---we both pick up everything the night before cleaning---saves a lot of angst.  My BF says she couldn't do that---she'd be picking up and keeping it perfect and getting irritated the whole time!  LOL

Quick post, preparing for school - have a quiz in dessert and new menu for restaurant tonight. We're doing a soft opening, serving the wait staff and will tweak recipes for tomorrow if necessary.

Week 7 of school, 3 more weeks left.

Everyone must be busy! It's been crazy week for me because of the new menu. I had to come up with the recipes and there is a lot of prep involved, plus last minute to order items that can not be prepped ahead.

Last night, out of 24 covers, I did 18 of the main courses! Everyone picked the pork dish, I had 13 orders for that. It was crazy, a table of 12 ordered 6 pork and 3 trout en papillote (my other dish) and everything had to be coordinated so the dishes can go to the table around the same time. The other girl on main course had a stuffed cornish hen dish and a vegetarian BBQ jackfruit dish. I had hoped that more people would order the cornish hen. I really hope next week will not be this hectic. Although, chef already told us that reservations are about 20 people both Wed and Thurs nights.

Holly, sorry that your BP is up again. You really should look into yoga, practice deep breathing. It would be great if you and Jojo can get together!

Joan, why is Victoria so good? It was smart that second time around you and your DH discussed these relationship issues before getting married.

Jojo, I have only been with SO and if I ever had a second relationship, things might be different. I was so young, just out of college. SO can be very funny, he's sarcastic and can have self-deprecating kind of humor, at the same time, he teases people too with humor that might have a underlining sharp bite.

Weight had been in 119 during the week but today back into the 118s.

Homework today, household chores, maybe gym or errands later.

Good morning everyone!  Wow, time just keeps flying by=--and when I read about the restaurant, Sue, it flies faster---I can imagine you were just running in the kitchen to do that large a percentage of the total orders.  So if they order your dishes, then are you the chef in charge of the order or do you do it all yourself?  Do you get more credit schoolwise--grades--when your dishes are ordered most?  Do each of the customers fill out evals after dinner---in Montpelier, Vermont, when we ate at the Culinary School restaurant, we each had to fill out a pretty thorough eval of the dinner, the service, atmosphere, etc.

Yesterday I did my two classes and then left from class to get my haircut---the drive out took just an hour but coming back was rush hour when I hit town and took an hour and a half.  It was interesting at the salon--this is a tiny town outside of Vegas---the conversation revolved around a girl of 15 1/2 who had a baby the night before and no one knew she was pregnant--including her they were saying.  The women talking were so critical of this girl, almost like The Scarlet Letter.  I asked who the father was---they knew, said he was a nice kid.  Wow,no empathy for this girl---like she forced the guy or something and they've been dating for a year---of course, I asked why they only placed blame with her---yet they continued.  It's such an unfair world to girls and women---we bear the consequences, the guy stays on the basketball team or whatever and moves on, and the girl's life is in ruins.  Living in small town America I saw it over and over growing up---and here it is 50+ years later and still like this.  Seems the town should rally and figure out how to help this child rather than condemning her.  Ugh!

I got home so late that DH and I ate out---went to Outback which DH used to love and we seldom go to---actually I had add on shrimp and a side of veggies and it was cooked just right so turned out to be a good choice for last night.

Feeling as tho' I am actually getting a cold---throat is sort of tightening up and very congested---I may skip my class this morning---DD just called to say she and the girls are both feeling the same and they are at a convention---wishing they were home in bed!

Holly, there are some really excellent CD's on meditation---you might try that as a daily routine to see if it would help with the BP.  So strange that it doesn't want to respond to meds consistently.

I am trying to watch the new add on series to Gilmore Girls---it's not very good---will wade through it just to see how they end it but it's not entertaining like the original series was.  I had heard it was a bit of a disappointment to all GG fans.  Can see why.

Did some more homework today. The weather is so warm here, another 70s day. I have internship tomorrow and I'm thinking, like the super bowl day, it might not be too busy because of Oscars, a lot of people like to have Oscars parties, so may not want to go out to eat that day.

Holly, wow 3 teeth pulled is a lot at one time. Hope you are not in too much pain today.

Joan, yes I'm in charge of cooking my own dishes, but the other entree person helped me to plate. No extra credit or higher grade for more dishes ordered, and diners don't have to fill out any forms.
Yes, I can imagine that small town attitudes might not have changed for decades.
Take charge of that cold right away!

Will go to gym shortly. Weight back up into 119s again.
