We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

Quiet day here too. Just doing odds & ends, plus sitting & drinking tea in-between. Interesting week ahead with the Kavanaugh hearing. Its such a disgrace that the GOP feels it has to hide 100K pages of Kavanaugh papers. What are they so afraid the Dems will find to knock out this SC nominee. Stinks to high heaven!...But the stench from the GOP is getting worse not better, so no surprise. I guess they don't give a damn that JA has taken over their party.

Linda, the GOP certainly in no way resembles the once "Grand Old Party" any longer. It has completely capitulated to the JA and his followers, and no longer even pretends otherwise. You're right that it is disgraceful that they are refusing to release those Kavanaugh papers. This is someone who is going to be on the highest court in the land for life. His actions will affect us all, our children, our grandchildren, and even our great-grandchildren to come. So everything that is to be known about this man should be made known. Ultimately, he can have a far more lasting effect than a president. The fact that the Rs want to cloak him in secrecy is a definite warning, but he will be pushed through and confirmed. The Rs seem to give no thought whatsoever to the future of the country any longer. It is all just a matter of "I want power, and I want it right now."

Per the JA, evidently Congressmen should not be indicted even if they do break the law if they happen to be Republican and up for re-election. Right! Hillary should be locked-up simply because they don't like her and she opposed the JA, but if a Republican breaks the law it should be o.k. because the JA needs their support. Makes perfect sense if you're a narcissistic sociopath who sees everything only in terms of how it benefits you.

Hello everyone!
A quiet day here, to quiet frankly.
While I didn't agree with a lot John Mccain's policies, I did respect him for his decency and love of his country and of course his sacrifice. I actually found myself tearing up during his memorials. I was surprised by this, but then I realized I was crying for our country as it used to be. I think I felt with his passing it was also the passing of our country as it used to be.
I was irritated by McConnell and Ryan's speech. Hypocritical In my opinion.
I don't have high hopes for 2020 especially since nothing has been done about the russian interference in the last election.
I applaud Meghan Mccain's remarks at her fathers service. Someone on the news said-she is her fathers daughter and she had the right to say whatever she wanted.
Good for her!!
Well, I have edited this many times and it's probably still not right..but you all get my drift.

Hi Allie! Good to see you back. Hope you will come back more often. Yes, like you, I think John McCain's passing was symbolic for the passing of our country as we have always known it. I don't see any other Republicans waiting in the wings to take his place who are willing to put country before party. To be truthful I'm not sure how many Democrats are willing to do that anymore either, but I do believe there are some. If the Republican party is smart they would embrace Meghan McCain, but I don't think that's likely to happen. Too bad. I like her spirit. We need the Meghan McCains and the Chelsea Clintons helping to lead us out of this quagmire the JA has pulled our nation into.

Democrats want to adjourn the Kavanaugh hearing because of all the documents withheld. I doubt that will be successful, but at least maybe it will keep it in the news and some people will pay attention to the fact that Republicans are trying to hide information.
Have an appointment and got to run! BBL . . .

It's time to grow a spine and put our foot down with this nomination. I think the documents should not only be obtained (essential for Advice and Consent), but should also be made public.
Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend

If you get a chance & have time, find Dick Durbins opening statement at the hearing ...It was truly remarkable & so hit the nail on the head!...I'm so proud to be a Democrat even tho I know the Dems don't have a chance in Hell of stopping this nomination. What a sham this nomination is, & shame on the GOP!...

Linda thanks. I'll search for Dick Durbin's remarks now. "President Donald Trump's closest aides have taken extraordinary measures in the White House to try to stop what they saw as his most dangerous impulses, going so far as to swipe and hide papers from his desk so he wouldn't sign them, according to a new book from legendary journalist Bob Woodward." -- www.cnn.com/2018/09/04/politics/bob-woodward-book-donald-trump-fear/index.html

I saw some quotes from Woodwards book from staff members who are still in the Oval Office. They may have some explaining to do to their boss. LOL...The comments are backed up with tapes & those being taped & interviewed knew they were being taped. Wow! Some of the comments are pretty blunt to say the least. Especially, from Mattis, Cohn, Tillerson, Priebus, & Kelly. This may be one book I just might buy. I usually don't buy books such as these no matter who wrote them, but Woodward is one great author & reporter.

Linda, I thought exactly the same thing when I read those quotes. LOL! Sounds like a good book, and Woodward has strong credentials to back him up.

UGH! I watched most of the hearing today. How disheartening to see the discourse amongst the committee members. Common Sense doesn't mean much anymore, does it. Kavanaugh must have thought this hearing wasn't going to be as bad as it was today, since he brought his young kids. I see they left after a few hours of sitting thru some pretty rough discourse & protests.
So, Kelly, denies, denies, denies the comments in Woodwards book. Hmmmmm, ya sure! JA is more unhinged than I thought he was, & I figured it was bad, but, wow, if this is all true, & I don't doubt it is, this really is terrifying to think JA is getting away with all this because the GOP & his staff are enabling him for purely political purposes. I don't doubt even for a minute, there is so, so much more we don't even have a clue about that is yet to be uncovered when all is said & done.
