Thanks for the new thread, Judy!
I have a bunch from the Blue Beck book:
She lists the diet "traps":
Emotional eating traps: "If I'm upset, I deserve to eat."
Stress traps: I'm too busy and overwhelmed to keep on dieting.
Food pusher traps: I can't diappoint people by turning down food they're offering me.
Family traps: I shouldn't ask my family to make changes just because I want to lose weight.
Holiday traps: It's a special time. I should be able to eat whatever I want.
Travel and eating out traps: It's ok to indulge when I'm away.
Psychological traps: I have no willpower. I just can't resist.
Getting off track traps: I've already blown it for the day. I might as well keep eating and get back on track tomorrow.
I found myself in a few of these but I'd love to hear from our group which ones apply or have applied to them and how they deal with them.
I will send another email with the Foundations as listed in the blue book as well. Would love a discussion of those too.

Foundation strategies (Beck says these are discussed in the original book as well)
1) Create an advantages list to motivate yourself every day
2) Sit down, eat slowly, and enjoy every bite.
3) Give yourself credit each time you practice a skill or make a positive food choice.
4) Create "reminder cards" to respond to your sabotaging thoughts
5) Weigh yourself daily
6) Build up your "resistance muscle."
7) Manage hunger and cravings.
8) Eat according to a schedule
9) Adopt (and adapt) an eating plan you can follow for life.
10) Capture "worth-it memories" to remind you why it's worth it to you to stick to your plan.

Thanks for the ideas. Yikes, it is February and almost time to organize for the review.

Judy, if you want, you might ask Admin to pin this thread to the top of the Beck area so we can always add to it without hunting it down - or if you like, I can ask them. Just a thought! Can you ask them? I don't know how to do it.

Thanks Collen. Saved it in a Word file. Liked the quote about don't try for perfect try for a little better each day. Sounds like baby steeps to me.

For those of us who've done the Beck review more than once, have your Advantages Response Card (Week 1/Day 1) entries changed over time and if so, in what way(s)?

New pet peeve... Those who constantly say "You've lost enough weight" "Why are you still going to WW" "You look fine the way you are" "If you get any thinner..." Leave me the hell alone!
