What the hell is going on in this country?
Physically sick about the shootings in Squirrel Hill. I know that borough, I know Shady Avenue and Wilkins. When we lived in Pgh. we were in Squirrel Hill all the time using the library, shopping, our best friends (and the kids godparents) lived there, two blocks away away from the shootings.
This country is suppose to be a safe harbor, not any more!
Sick for the relatives, the congregation , for the village and for the country.

I wonder how the WH will spin the fact that protests are now cropping up as JA has landed in Pittsburg. What is happening, is exactly what the city leaders feared would happen on the day they are having funerals & the community is mourning. You can hardly call these protesters paid mobs, etc. but somehow, they will spin it to slam Dems. This could have been avoided if he had just come another day, but of course, his schedule takes presedence. He surely can't cancel a rally or two. (insert sarcasm )... This will probably not come out right but: I blame the protesters in this instance. Regardless of their political affiliation and opinions, they should also show respect for the grieving families and community. There are plenty of occasions to protest for political reasons, this should not be one of them. This also goes for the DT fanbase that will probably be cheering and acting like an unfeeling mob as well. IMO anyway.

Everyone should be respectful of the mourning these families are experiencing. I read where a lady who lives across the street from the synagogue had made a protest sign to display there for the JA to see. Protests during a funeral are ill advised because the loved ones are dealing with enough at the moment that they shouldn't have to be dealing with anything else. However, I lay the blame squarely on the JA. He was asked not to come, to postpone the visit for a later time. He had to know that there would be protests, and yet he chose to go anyway despite the fact that he was asked not to and the fact that he knew his visit would arouse protesters. As the "leader" of our country, he should have lead by showing respect and not subjecting these families to this. The protesters are not blameless, but he is the President (much to my dismay) and he should have been the one to lead by example, IMO. I understand that SHS said he had to go today because he has rallies scheduled other times. So a rally can't be rescheduled, but the grief of these families can be exploited? No, I can't give him a pass on this. He wanted those protests to show his base how people are just so "mean" to him. It's all being used as political currency.

I'm not blaming any protester against Trump for anything given these circumstances. Yes,in polite company we don't protest at funerals, but I see the people of Squirrel Hill in shock, anger at the loss of friends and family and this all bringing back either memories of the Holocaust or family histories they were told as children.
Don't get me Irish up,this sweet ole granny would be helping paint the sign.....!!!!!!!!!!!! (but you already know that about me)

I think I have reached the point that no matter what I say Mr.Drumph and the "under-educated" and disenfranchised that he loves and appeals to are going to continue as they started. He will always have that base behind him, I want to put my energy toward something more productive.

I blame JA for the Protesters feeling like they had to do something, anything, to grieve on this sad day. Of course, I would rather they had not protested, ONLY because, I know the spin this WH & JA will take & make concerning these Pittsburg citizens and probably calling them "a mob. They are grieving as a community & just standing up for their values. They do not deserve to be criticized by JA & his supporters. If it made even one person feel bit better on this day for carrying a sign & singing to show JA that they do not believe in his vile rhetoric, then I say GREAT! They did it peacefully & silently except for the singing, which I found sounded very comforting.

People should be able to become citizens through having a sponsor or serving in the military etc. Not just because. And yes DH and I would stand up and sponsor a person or a family. As for the 14th Amendment, I would not have a problem with it being rethought and even changed. I do think there are people who take advantage of it, although I would be surprised to find that there are so many of them that it is a major issue. But I would have no problem with saying that at least one parent must be a US citizen or at least on their way to becoming one for example. My issue with the JA about this is that he seems to think the Constitution is something he can just change at will with an executive order. It seems the Rs are all for following the Constitution strictly until it is inconvenient for them, and then they think they can just either ignore it or let the JA change it with the stroke of a pen. He and his followers seem to have no concept of what is involved in changing the Constitution. That if it is changed it has to be according to the will of the people, not by the JA writing it in big letters and holding it up for the cameras. Why is it that they think the 2nd Amendment has to be interpreted strictly with no room for any challenge, but the 14th Amendment is just something we can ignore or follow according to the JA's whim? If we're going to change an amendment, and I am one of those people who think the Constitution should be a living, fluid thing changing as the times change and according to the needs of the citizens it governs, then I'd like to start with the 2nd Amendment. We can move on from there.

The scariest thing about this Halloween is in the Oval Office. Here Halloween was celebrated last night because storms and heavy rain are coming in today and tonight. It was actually a lot of fun. Kids, kids, and more kids! Everyone sat out in their driveways to pass out candy. Some houses (not me) really go all out with the Halloween decorations. The house across the street was playing Halloween music, and it was just really nice. Even DH, who had grumbled about it earlier, had a good time.  I see the JA isn't getting any "nicer" as the election draws near. The prediction I heard this morning is that Democrats are expected to take over the House, but that Republicans are supposed to be up by an additional 1 in the Senate. One thing is certain, JA is firing up his base to get out and vote. I just hope everyone else is getting fired up and out to vote as well.

Where the hell are my tomatoes?! Lol Anne. Seriously though, I have a big problem with it being decided by executive decision. I don't think there will be a lot of support on either side for an executive order on this matter regardless. Happy Halloween Ladies! I've been on a self-imposed news blackout. It was three weeks ago last Friday, that I decided I needed to eschew politics for awhile. The Ford/Kavanuagh testimony and its aftermath was a real low point for our country and for me personally. I didn't wait for the final votes. I somehow knew it would go the way it went and I was certain that the coming month before the election would be awful. It's virtually impossible to be completely sealed off but, I still haven't watched ANY cable or network news nor read any political articles. I see the political headlines on my feed while keeping up with sports, and science and nature but, haven't immersed myself in the details as I once did. I plan on keeping this up through the midterms and then we'll see. As a political junkie, it hasn't been easy but, I've been less angry and much more pleasant to live with lol Welcome conniefromct this is a good bunch. Hope you'll come back often.
