Ginny, I hope that your family can now get back into a more normal routine again. I am happy that your DH was able to have his brother visit. I pray that you will all find peace in the days ahead.
Ruth, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. What a shock for you especially as you do not live near her. I am glad for you that she had arranged for some one to take care of her affairs. Sixty is not old now a days and I am sure you will be glad to know why she died. I will keep you in my prayers.
I gad an early start this morning and after taking Devin to school I had a Dr's. appt. I was really tired when I got home. Now I need to think about getting to bed. Good night.

Thank you Meg. Yes it was a huge shock to me.
I tried the shawl yesterday and I think it will be long enough so I'm going to finish it hopefully today. I might do one more row and then edging.
Ginny, are you going to be having a funeral, memorial service or something. A lot of people seem to be going to no services of any kind now.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad to hear that non of you were seriously made sick from the gas leak, that could have been terrible. It always seems like a million things happen at once, doesn't it? Hope things are going well with the arrangements for your MIL. I've had to go to so many funeral homes, I hope I don't have to do that again. Ruth - I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin, that must have been a shock. And 60 years old is not old at all. How sad for her that she died alone. I'm glad her niece will be able to take care of her arrangements and estate. Phyl - Don't you hate it when you have to take out work you've done? I do that all the time, I guess that's why they invented seam rippers! Meg - I hope Devin enjoyed his field trip. Hope you got some rest last night. I went by a quilt shop today. I was looking for a Creative Grids Log Cabin ruler. I've been watching some videos on using the ruler and it looks like it really makes the process easy. They didn't have the exact one I wanted (6 inch and 12 inch trimmer tool), but they had 6 inch one so I bought that. I managed not to buy any fabric, so I'm proud of myself I had a bunch of shopping to do today, so I don't think I'll work on my quilt since I'm kind of tired, but maybe tomorrow. Block 8 of the Solstice quilt is out today, and it's another applique! If she does many more of these, I might stop this challenge or else maybe I could just repeat one of the blocks I've done in different fabric choices. I really don't like machine applique. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/ - Need to scroll down

CJ, It's great to see you. I looked at the square and it is pretty but if you don't like applique i don't know why you wouldn't be able to substitute another square. She may have even more applique squares in the future ones. And in the squares I see that they are all hearts but one. It's labeled as a #8 also but is entirely different. It's really nice too.
I think my cousin's neice bit off more than she can chew as they say.And I don't know if she realized that this is all going to cost her money.I hope she can get cousin's brothers to chip in because I get the feeling that this Anna doesn't have much money to begin with. She said she'd never dealt with funerals or estates before and it turns out she has no paperwork designating her as POA after all.

afternoon, ruth sorry to hear about your cousin. you have my sympathy. becky was smart to have her affairs in order. ginny thinking of you and dh.
this am was the y and chair yoga. we had a potluck. it was a good potluck. meat and cheese tray, salad made with kale, fruit and veggies tray, and delish spaghetti salad. some desserts. nothing with a lot of goody high calories or fat type desserts.
then delona and I went to hobby lobby and michaels. I didn't buy anything. delona bought some yarn and a crochet hook. then I went to shopko.hey have to get those valentine's day cards.
yes I do not like to rip out. sometimes it is because of some little stupid error.phyl

Phyl, Your potluck sounds very good and also healthy. You do so many fun things and you and Delona seem to have a great time together.
Actually it turns out that Becky didn't have things in order like I was told. When I talked to Anna, she said that Becky had only told her on the phone that she had designated Anna as Poa and never did make a will or send Anna any paperwork.Anna can't even get into the house anytime soon as they have to have a special cleaning team go in first. So she has no way of looking for paperwork right now.I don't know how it works when someone dies like that without a will and has no spouse or children or parents left to inherit.

Just a quick stop by before I go to bed, It has been a busy day. DS and I did our big grocery shopping this morning.. My lower back gives out so by the time I got home I had, had it. So I had a lazy afternoon. No crocheting or needlework for me today. I did some reading. The jack on my Nook is broken so I can't listen with headphones though I can still listen to the audio. But I don't want to disturb anyone else with my reading.
I have read all your posts and I wish you all a good night.

Meg, I'm sorry to hear your headphone jack is broken. Sure would have been better if it had been the headphones themselves. They're easy to repair.I always get exhausted when going grocery shopping too and I don't have a low blood count. The big shopping really wears a person out.
I didn't get in any crocheting today either. I wanted to finish the shawl but I didn't. I did pretty much decide on the infinity scarf I want to make ddil. There is a really pretty one I would like to make but it's more complicated and I would like something fast and easy. But I might try it for a couple days and see how it goes.
I think I'll get to sleep now. We might be going out to do the shopping tomorrow. At least it's to be warm...about 52 they say...but it'll be really windy I'm sure.
See you tomorrow. Thinking of you Ginny

Good morning!
Ruth - my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear cousin Becky. Time and extra measure of grace from the Lord will eventually ease your pain over the loss- which takes nothing away from the hurt you are feeling now. We never know what was in a person's heart during their final moments....also know that this was part of God's plan and that he wants none of us to perish. My prayers are with you. WIthout a will the state (court) will decide how to handle the estate and will eventually designate a family member to handle the affairs. If Anna truly was POA, then the chore of settling the estate might logically go to her. Again, my prayers are with you.
Meg, well that stinks that the headphone jack is broken!! Are these things repairable or will you have to get another Nook? Just to ease your withdrawal, perhaps your library loans Nooks? (mine does). Hope your back has had a chance to rest up and that you are feeling better.
Phyl- congrats on a very healthy potluck! Sounds like fun...good eating too. Proud of you too for going into two craft stores and not buying a thing!
CJ- well it stinks that you were not able to find the exact ruler you wanted, but at least you were able to find something close that will work. Good girl for not buying any fabric!!! Hey, is any of this crazy storm supposed to impact you? And are you planning on making a Log cabin quilt?
Yesterday just ran away from me......regarding the gas leak- my utility guy said that women smell natural gas better than men and that my house was one one hundredth below the explosive limit. So at the time we were in no danger and he allowed us to stay in the house as he repaired the leak.
I also had to take the cat to the vet- will have her bloodwork results today. Yesterday I bought a water fountain for her (of course the others will use it too). She is a cat with a big personality- and she does indeed seem to be taking full advantage of all the attention showered on her now.
Services will be held for MIL. Because of her age, it will be private. She was a complicated woman with many personality issues, difficult to love. The challenge for me will be to comfort Dh as he deals with the "what could have been" of her life if she was not so difficult. He was a loving son despite her testy personality. He has nothing to be ashamed of or feel guilty about.
I am still working on the afghan, but MIL's passing interferes with attending the shower. I do plan on finishing it today or tomorrow.
School is closed- we already have 4 inches of heavy snow falling- supposed to get almost a foot of snow. I took today and tomorrow off (bereavement time for MIL)- Tomorrow I will assist Dh with his mother's affairs. Not much we can do today with this snowstorm.

Ginny, it's so good to see you here again. You were missed those couple days but we all knew that you had a lot in your hands and on your mind. As you said, God is our refuge and He will comfort. As you also said it will be a challenge to comfort your dh. It is esp hard under those circumstances. My dh was a huge comfort to me the other day. Sad part is her being so alone but I do thank you for your wonderful words which are so true. I've always said that we don't know what was in the hearts of people in their final moments and I also hope that was true of my brothers final moments. He was a staunch agnostic. I'm glad you don't have to go out and drive in the bad weather too, Ginny. It's beautiful temp wise here but the wind is blowing very strongly today. I'm also glad the gas leak was minor and none of you felt ill effects from it. We don't have gas here in our home but recently they put it into the neighborhood and pipes go thru our property so I'm always leary of one of them leaking. That happened in my dd's backyard in town. It was in the winter too and all they did was put in a temporary above ground hose which seemed very dangerous to me. Once summer came they put in another underground one but from Jan until about April the gas line was above ground I hear you on the afgan. Last night I tore the shawl out way back almost to the beginning. I think I'm a pretty good crocheter but I just am having problems with this. I picked the pattern because it looked fast and easy. It IS beautiful but there's just something I'm doing wrong on one of the rows. I think the problem is in the wording of the instructions. It says, for instance, hdc in every stitch to the last stitch. do two hdc's in the turning ch. So I took it from that that they meant do a hdc in that last stitch AND then two in the turning chain. maybe you're supposed to skip the last stitch. I wish people would be more clear. ARe we supposed to read minds... See you all later after I test this out...the new attempt on shawl that is

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today.
Ginny - We missed the snow here, it's just cold an very windy today. Hope you stay safe in the bad weather. I'm glad your husband has you for support and comfort, grieving can be a long and complicated process.
Ruth - Hope things are going well with your new attempt on the shawl. I'm still thinking about how I'll do the heart block from this week. I thought about maybe just putting the large heart on it, or maybe just the large and small heart. I really think 3 hearts is too much. I hope things will work out with your cousin's estate. It's difficult without a will, since they will probably have to go into probate.
Meg - I'm sorry to hear about your Nook. Hopefully you can get a replacement so you can listen to your books again.
Phyl - Your potluck and shopping sounds like it was enjoyable. And how nice of you to send out Valentine's Day cards.
I worked on another diamond in the Lone Star quilt, so that's 3 done and 5 more to do. Many years ago I made a small Log Cabin quilt, and I'd like to make another one. The ruler will really help the process since you don't have to cut your strips exactly, the ruler helps you trim them done.
Take care everyone!

Hello everyone, it is a very wet morning here otherwise quite mild. I took Devin to school this a.m. so I was out for a little while. He is getting very excited about his trip to Florida to visit his aunt. He already ants to pack his suitcase and get some snacks to eat on the way.
Linda, I am so glad you got the gas leak fixed. I am glad you will hold a service for your DMIL hopefully it will bring closure for you and DH and all your family. I can still use my Nook to read and listen to books but I just can't use the headphones. So I will keep using it until it gives up completely. I probably could send it off somewhere to get it fixed. I wish there were repair men locally like there used to be.
This has been an odd week. I had my lab work on Tue and everything is pretty much within range. I am going to start iron infusion treatments start next week. I will go in once a week for 5 weeks. I have had these treatments before so no problem.
Ruth, it is sad to think of someone living alone when they die. I am glad your DH gave you good support as you dealt with the shock. I will keep using this Nook for now. I got my first Nook free with my united miles. The one I have now I bough at Barnes & Noble when they had a rebate offer. I will wait and see what United offers. About once a year they send out a catalogue for things you can trade your miles in for. I got my Samsung 10.5 tablet using my air miles. I have not done much work on my b/blanket this week. Perhaps today I will do a few rows. I have been looking at patterns so I just need to settle down and start work on something.
Phyl, congratulations on getting in and out of Hobby Lobby & Michaels without spending any money. Sorry you had to rip your work out. I hate having to do that. I try to cover up my mistakes before I do that.
cj, I hope all is well with you. I will check back later.

Meg, they offered my friend iron infusions instead of blood transfusions but she told them she didn't want iron. I don't know why.
I would hate if I had a nook and couldn't use headphones. I really can't understand the words when I listen to the tv or anything even with the volume up. I used to have tv ears but a brand I got at Menard's way cheaper than the ones they talk about on tv and they worked great but my current tv and cable box don't have a place to plug the little box into so I have to rely on closed captioning. My hearing aids don't do the trick for listening to the tv even though they have a tv "channel"
CJ, It's good to see you too today. If I were mIaking that heart square I would only put on one or two. The three just looks like too much. I'm glad you didn't get the snow in case you need to go somewhere.
The thing I wonder about with my cousin's home and property is what kind of shape they're in. If she's been depressed she probably has not kept up repair and other things. I know that can be remedied but it would take money in advance and then the person paying for all that would have to wait for it all to be sold. If it were me taking care of all that, I'd probably just let it be taken over by the state.

Well I am back. Think we got about 14 inches of snow, and now it's very cold and windy. School is on a 2 hour delay for tomorrow, but I took tomorrow off as a bereavement day.
Ruth- regarding Becky's home- my mother's house was in deplorable shape- and it took Dh and I about 3 months of daily work, plus a few contractors and $25, 000 to get the house ready for sale. We charged the estate for that expense. It was a long summer getting that house ready for sale.I am so glad that Dh was able to comfort you regarding Becky's passing...I hope you figure out the shawl. It reminds me of the baby afghan- remember how many different patterns I tried out and did not use? Then I finally fell back on the tried and true ripple. So I do indeed understand.....
Meg, you had me worried- but I am so glad to hear that your bloodwork came out ok! I hope the injections are effective and you get your energy back. Hope you can figure out some way to get your nook fixed or get another free one!
CJ- does the ruler assure uniformity of the strips for the log cabin quilt? Got any idea what fabric you will be using?
I really wish I did not have to attend any service for MIL- but know I must go in support of my Dh. Guess I am going to go and work on the afghan.....little by little it gets done.
Have a good evening! G
