We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!

Good morning!
I don't know if this has been discussed, but apparently the alt-right had been preaching that Lady Gaga's performance was going to be a satanic ritual. I mean - come on! How can people be so gullible. Anyhow - I was laughing about it with my husband this morning and he said "She must be BehelzaBoobs," ROTF.
I hope you all have a sane and not too depressing day.

SIGH....This is what we Democrats still deal with in ND......and probably in my small rural town ...if it wasn't so ridiculous, it would almost be funny, but living in ND I do believe this is the way many in the ND Legisation still think....
Lawmaker Wants Women To Spend Sundays Making Husbands Breakfast In Bed How about no? 1 day ago Jenavieve Hatch Associate Women’s Editor, The Huffington Post News: Male House Members Comment on Blue Laws Two North Dakota Representatives have some pretty outdated ideas for how women should be spending their Sunday mornings.
In their defense of North Dakota’s “Blue Laws” ― which require some businesses to open late on Sunday mornings and some businesses to stay closed altogether ― Representatives Bernie Satrom and Vernon Laning seemed to express that Sunday mornings should be spent time traveling back to the norms of the 1950s rather than running errands.
According to Satrom, women should spend their Sunday mornings bringing their husbands breakfast in bed.
Satrom said that Sundays should be devoted to “spending time with your wife, your husband...Making him breakfast, bringing it to him in bed and then after that go take your kids for a walk.”
Rep. Laning also chimed in with some sexist commentary.
“I don’t know about you, but my wife has no problem spending everything I earn in 6 and a half days,” he said. “And I don’t think it hurts at all to have a half day off.”
“It’s hurtful, to know that that’s the reasoning that they’re using,” one young woman told Valley News Live. Another woman said that it’s frustrating to have representatives whose “backwards” views are so different from her own. “It’s frustrating personally because when you know those are the people representing you,” she told Valley News. “And you don’t feel like you’re being represented and those kind of backwards ways of thinking are still present, it’s really, it’s upsetting.”
Laning told Valley News Live, the news outlet that originally reported on the representatives’ comments, that people were simply taking the comments too seriously, and that anyone who is upset lacks a sense of humor........

Even IF, which I doubt, these kinds of comments were meant to be humourous, it just shows the character of these outdated old white guys who deep down still think this IS the way it should be. UGH!....

President Donald Trump threatened to “destroy” the career of a Texas state senator after a Texas sheriff accused the lawmaker of getting in his way by promoting asset forfeiture reform.
“Want to give his name? We’ll destroy his career,” Trump told Sheriff Harold Eavenson of Rockwall County, Texas. Trump’s comment was met with laughter and Eavenson declined to give the official’s name.
Trump made the remark during a listening session with county sheriffs at the White House. Eavenson is in line to become president of the National Sheriffs’ Association in June, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Those that cheered on the orange monster and mocked Hillary got the change they so desperately wanted. Every day is more depressing than the day before. I feel like there's a death in the family every single day. And yet, the oaf supporters are celebrating...for now.
Pat, I can't imagine how painful and how personal this smack in the face is for you and others that dedicated their lives to teaching these children. I'm so sorry.
I'm weary of being so sick and so sad and feeling such rage all the damn time.

Bill Moyers 15 mins · "It is a sad day for American public education when a person who has repeatedly expressed contempt for public schools is confirmed as secretary of Education. But there is a silver lining to this dark cloud. Her obvious lack of qualification for the job has created a maelstrom of protest against her. Senators report that they have never received so much feedback about a Cabinet nominee, overwhelmingly negative. Telephone lines were jammed, in some offices, shut down."

And yet, only two Republican WOMEN were brave enough to do the right thing and stand up against her. Yes, our schools have a lot of problems and there is a lot that needs to be done. But DeVos will literally destroy public education. Do the rest of those Republican senators just not care? When so many people were so strongly opposed to her did that not give them a clue? There could not possibly have been a worse choice, and I am disgusted with those senators and anyone else who just doesn't seem to care. This is what they wanted? For public education to be completely destroyed so that only wealthy children will be educated? I can't even express how upset I am about this.

This came to me at a good time today:
Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don’t try to convince me that
There’s something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.
And it’s not true that
It’s all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be obtained
Only if one’s surroundings are good
It’s not true that good exists
I’m sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It’s all beyond my control
And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that
Today was a good day
"Now read from the bottom to top."
