We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they are hatched.

"To my friends, and, yes, I do mean friends -- in the loyal opposition and, yes, I mean loyal -- I put out my hand... The American people await action. They didn't send us here to bicker. They ask us to rise above the merely partisan. 'In crucial things, unity' -- and this, my friends, is crucial," Bush said, speaking directly to the opposition Democrats who controlled the US Congress at the time of his election.
-------------------
We had respect and unity for the common good on both sides of the aisle at one point. How did we allow that to disappear? How do we get it back?

Good morning from sunny TN! It's a beautiful day here today. Of course, that's all supposed to change by tomorrow, but we'll take it while we've got it. Lots of coverage about #41's passing, and he deserves it all. I'm trying not to watch though as my own loss is still too fresh. My heart goes out to his family. The JA finally managed to get through an important meeting with other world leaders without making some huge mistake, but he's not getting much news coverage about it because of President Bush's death. That probably really irritates the JA, but he did learn a lesson and said nice words about Bush rather than his usual attacks on anyone who is admired by others. I hope his staff can keep that duct tape over his mouth until after the funeral services, and maybe they found a good hiding place for his phone so that he won't be able to tweet anything nasty.

He can always read a prepared statement, but will eventually put his foot in his mouth once he goes off script. Or gets his hands on his twitter account.

JA decided pretty darn quick that he was going to President Bush's funeral. You would think that after all he said about the Bush family he would be too embarrassed to go, but, then again, he is a JA & in need of attention. I wonder if there was a discussion amongst the Bush family IF they even wanted him to attend.

I know he was specifically NOT invited to McCain's. Can the Bush's "uninvite" him?

I heard on the news yesterday that Bush 41 wanted the JA at his funeral because 41, even though he disliked the JA immensely and famously voted for Hillary, was a unifier. Of course, that's what I heard from a commentator so who knows if that is actually true or not, but the family could say they don't want him there. McCain specifically stated that he did not want him at his funeral. You'd think the JA would be embarrassed to attend, but in order for that to be the case he'd have to have some empathy for others and he absolutely has none. I don't think he's even capable of having it register in his mind about the nasty comments he's made about the Bush family. Personally, I wish they'd make a statement by seating him in the very back, but of course they will have more class than me and not do that. It's kind of like rubbing salt into the family's wounds for him to be there, but while I don't agree with them politically they are good people and will conduct themselves with the utmost respect even though the JA does not deserve it. I expect in their minds they will be thinking of 41 and won't want anything to mar his remembrance. Maybe #43 will make some comments in his eulogy the way Meghan McCain did. Even if he does though, they'll likely fly right over the JA's head.

Hopefully this month we will begin to see some closure or at least more insight into Mueller's investigation. Of course, the JA just keeps shouting "witch hunt" as if saying it will make it so. It's hard to see how anyone on his staff can continue to stand up there and use those words with a straight face, but they must all get heavy botox injections right before speaking. Thus far this investigation has seen three people sentenced, one convicted at trial and seven guilty pleas and has charged 36 people and entities with a total of 192 criminal counts. Doesn't sound like the hallmarks of a witch hunt to me. No, I would have defined witch hunt more closely as spending two years investigating someone's emails, 11 hours grilling someone in front of a Republican led Senate committee on camera about Benghazi, and then after finding not one single indictment or charge continuing to shout "lock her up" at every political pep rally as being closer to the definition of with hunt, but, then maybe that's just me . . .

I wonder how Eric's attack on KAC husband is going to go over in the Conway house??? I'm pretty sure George Conway can take baby Eric down with a few choice words if he so choses. But, I wonder if KAC will address the issue. Kind of hard to be caught between a rock & a hard place. Defend Eric or her husband?...
I hope this Mueller investigation comes to a close soon. I think the whole country is just weary of the weekly leaks of what is about to happen or not.
If JA is depending on Roger Stone not to throw him under the bus by not cooperating, I think he is a fool. Roger Stone will flip like a pancake as soon he is faced with the reality of prison time. He doesn't look like a guy who would do well in a prison setting. I just don't think his loyalty runs that deep. But, there is always those pardons JA dangles out in his tweets everyday.
What do you think JA says to the Bush family when he meets with the today.? Everything he would say would be hypocritical!.... It would be so hard to be gracious to JA after all the attacks on their family. But the graciousness seems to come natural to the Bush family. But, still, has to be hard.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the Conway family dinner table. I bet there's some interesting conversation going on there! LOL!
I agree it would be very hard to be gracious to the JA, but the Bush family will manage to do it. They are going through a very difficult time for anyone, and to have to do it with cameras on them and this JA trying to get any political gain he can squeeze out of the situation makes them super heroes in my book.

I like that Michelle Obama is cancelling her overseas book tour to attend memorial services for President Bush. The JA who stands behind the seal now couldn't even get out in the rain to pay tribute to thousands of soldiers who gave their lives. I guess it's all a matter of priorities. You either recognize what really matters in the world and the statement your actions make, or you are like the JA and simply don't give a damn about anyone or anything but yourself.

I think its funny that the WH & JA are bending over backwards to accommodate the Bushes in every way. While that would be the norm for most Presidents, I think JA thinks this one act of kindness will absolve him of all past mistakes. I think once the funeral is over, he will be back to his usual ugly self slamming whoever, whenever. Like Sarah Palan once said, " you can put lipstick on a pig but it still is a pig".. In this case with JA, how true!...LOL

You know, it's such a somber occasion when a President passes away, and the only thing I can think is hoping that the current one doesn't make an ass of himself, and remembers that this is NOT ABOUT HIM and not a platform for his childish snarkiness.
