Last week I ordered from two online sources that I have never ordered from before. After going to the usual garden supply places (Lowe's, Home Depot, and a few local places) I could see that I was never going to find the specialized stuff I wanted at reasonable prices. One crappy "nursery pot" at HD was overpriced junk.
Years ago, my go-to seed ordering place was Burpee's. I remember getting my catalog in January and writing out my order, sending it in, and waiting for the UPS delivery.

So of course I went to the Burpee's site and was totally shocked to see the prices of their seed packets! Anything I was interested in was $4 to $7 per packet! And this was not for organic or specialty seeds. Plain old basil, etc. They also didn't seem to have any unique seeds at all. Meh.
I remembered getting a catalog in the past from a family-owned company in Maine. Pinetree Garden Seeds. They had some interesting unusual varieties in their catalog so I went online and found things that I thought would be particularly suited to indoor gardening---dwarf dill and bush basil looked like something that wouldn't potentially take over my basement---I had never seen those varieties before. A few types of lettuce scallions, thyme, radishes, and a little dwarf French marigold to perk up the garden table. Their seed packets averaged about $2 per pack, shipping was reasonable, and they offered me 15% off my first order. I took the plunge and placed an order. We shall see if I screwed up.

For the seed starting supplies I went to Greenhouse Megastore and had fun ordering garden trays, pots, etc. You simply cannot find this stuff locally and the prices are fantastic. The place is massive overkill for what I am doing but trays and pots are available in reasonable amounts and shipping rates are good too. A lot of the products are aimed at the commercial grower but I found what I wanted here.
