What's in Nutella that comes from an animal? Something dairy? And you fried the pasta in butter?

Holly Gail, Nutella has milk powder in it. It was sitting there on the shelf and I thought about it long and hard but wanted sweet so had it... AND...I did fry the pasta in butter...this is a challenge and am not kicking myself and it is what it is. I couldn't face the pasta other than fried and frying in olive oil might not have crisped it. The capelini is gone so no more temptation on that front and think I will give the nutella away or ask if Hubby wants to use it in his cocoa. I have made Nutella at home...it is hazelnuts and powdered sugar and something else...it was tastier than store-bought and sweetness could be regulated.
These recipes look easy and vegan for Nutella:

Applied for my drivers license and then we went out for lunch and grocery shopping. Lunch was totally vegan and a special request I thought tastier than their vegetarian option. While shopping I found vital wheat gluten so see some seitan in my near future
Breakfast toast
avocado mashed on toast tomato chopped and sprinkled with seasoning, cooked in microwave till soft/mushy - put this over the avocado (yum) coffee
Lunch Went to Taouk (known for their chicken and meat sandwiches) and requested the french fry potato BUT instead of with mayonnaisy coleslaw had them put on: * hummus * tomatoes, lettuce and pickles * toom (garlic paste) * potatoes Diet Pepsi
Dinner Cheerios and soy milk with a tsp brown sugar (wasn't hungry after breakfast)
Snacks
nuts, dried cranberries, dates

Congratz Cathy for going vegan. I have seen my blood sugar plummet from 401 to 153 in one week. The animals and my body thanks me.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup cooked quinoa reheated with a peeled chopped green apple, cinnamon and a bit of orange juice (all in covered bowl heated in microwave for about 3 minutes), then stirred in peanut butter. coffee (went straight through me...think it was the quinoa coffee combination or something else...might mix quinoa with another grain in the future?
Lunch: Leftover Melange: Put olive oil in frying pan and add 1 medium onion, chopped or sliced, 3 or 4 garlic and a chopped chopped tomato...saute a minute or two then add in approximately 4 cups shredded cabbage. Cook a bit (to desired doneness) then add in a can of beans (I used borlotti). Season with salt and pepper. Can top with sauce of your choice...vegan ranch, catsup, soy, sriacha...whatever
Dinner:
Wasn't hungry so had some mixed nuts with dried cranberries

January 23 Definitely NOT a vegan day though there were vegan moments...long time spent in the car going to and returning from Beirut. A meal that was not vegan served at a 90th birthday party and...other things
Breakfast peanut butter on toast, orange juice, coffee
Snack: chips and a vegan jerky bar
Lunch: was to be served at 2:30 but more like dinner as it was not served till probably 4
started with wine and veggies and nuts and conversation then:
a dish with salad, shrimp and a smear of something tasty (I gave the shrimp away) a dish with mashed potatoes, gravy and filet (beef)
dessert was ice cream with strawberries but the berries were not tasty My guess...nothing was vegan served for the meal...maybe the salad?
Dinner Later...when home...was hungry and had buttered bread with haloum and rocca (wrap) [not vegan]
Snacks
m&m package and a snickers bar
So...NOT a vegan day except for breakfast and the first snack before lunch. I am not worried about it as it is not a life threatening thing and I did not request vegan (even wonder if it was an option?) before going.
The 24th will be vegan plan to make seitan and perhaps some other things later today.

Love love love seitan !
Not eating it just at the moment as I am experimenting with going flour free in addition to being vegan. I've read that flour and of course sugar ( don't I know it !!! ) keep you binging. I have been suffering from binge eating disorder since I was a young gal of 22, way back in 1983 and am exploring all options for healing and wholeness. Veganism is just one part of it. Sugar had to go, not only because I am now a serious diabetic and my mother died from it, but because one grain of it sets me off in a frenzy. Sugar and potato chips are like crack to me.
So what does flour free and sugar free veganism look like ? Well ..........rather stripped down. Lots of whole grains ( faves are farro, barley, kamut, brown rice and spelt ), veggies, fruit, vegan protein shakes and olive oil.

@rudycallsmedoll, Do you eat wheat (the whole grain) or avoid all wheat? When you say "flour" there are many grains that can be turned into flour...and also legumes are ground to make flour. Anyway, just curious How are you feeling "flour free"?

@rudycallsmedoll, I was going to ask something different from what Cathy wrote. When you write "flour," do you mean whole grain flour or processed flour? I myself do not follow a vegan lifestyle, but I stay away from white flour (processed) when possible (okay, chocolate chip cookies a couple of times a month, maybe half a bialy once a month, but mostly zero white flour). I eat 100% whole wheat pasta, for example...

holly, No flour whatsoever. No macaroni, cakes, pies, pizza, cupcakes, etc.
It is an experiment, no sure if it is something I will do forever as being vegan already cuts out a lot of things that are common. It is a suggestion or rule of Emotional Eaters Anonymous, that I read online. Their position is that flour and sugar will keep you addicted or powerless over cheap carbs, though chips which have always been my weakness contain neither.
My difficulties with food, my body and now my health go way way back and I have barely had a day of respite since late 1982. My diabetes spiralled out of control and I thought big problems sometimes need big changes, so am giving it a try. Whether it will be forever or just a few months to test their theory, I am not sure.

January 24
Breakfast Cheerios small banana soy milk seitan jerky thingy coffee
Lunch whole wheat fussili tomato sauce 3 chocolates
Dinner baked potato topped with refried beans and mashed avocado mixed with a bit of salt and lemon juice NOTE: baked t he potato, mashed it, topped with refried beans and hot sauce, heated beans, topped with avocado. I think that "texture" of real beans or tomatoes or corn or something or perhaps salad would have added to the meal
Snack: air popped popcorn
