A short essay about Trump supporters by Florida writer Adam-Troy Castro:
'An anguished question from a Trump supporter: "Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?"
The serious answer: Here’s what we really think about Trump supporters - the rich, the poor, the malignant and the innocently well-meaning, the ones who think and the ones who don't...
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine."
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay."
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem."
That when he made up stories about seeing muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue."
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you chirped, "He sure knows me."
That when you heard him illustrate his own character by telling that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, "That's cool!"
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?"
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense."
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!"
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!"
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!"
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be."
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!"
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!"
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense."
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!"
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids. has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “well, ok then.”
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.
What you don't get, Trump supporters in 2018, is that succumbing to frustration and thinking of you as stupid may be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.'

nashville11, kind of stunning when you see it all, one after the other. I mean, there is so much badness, it's hard to remember it all. One new outrage replaces my awareness of the prior ones. And so many other instances that could be cited.

And so many other instances that could be cited. Yes, I agree. I didn't remember the one about the elderly man bleeding on the floor at Mar-a-Lago, but Googled it to see if that really happened. Sure enough there is a video of him talking about it on Howard Stern and what he says is even worse than just the statement in this long list. He does so many outrageously horrible things that you kind of become numb to them.

These are some of the reasons I fear and despise his supporters more than I fear and despise him. Hopefully, someday he'll be nothing more than an example of what happens when people cast their votes for an unqualified ego maniac instead of an intelligent, over qualified politician, simply because those people have a few disagreements with the intelligent politician. However, his loyal and dead eyed supporters full of hate, anger, stupidity, mean spirits, and mindlessness live among us and teach their young how to be just like them. Very scary.

Strike = "a refusal to work organized by a body of employees as a form of protest, typically in an attempt to gain a concession or concessions from their employer." Maybe we should all chip in and buy the JA a dictionary, but then we already know he doesn't read so it would be useless. That he's trying to change the narrative by calling this government shutdown that he engineered a strike would be totally laughable if there could be anything funny found about the shutdown itself and if you didn't know that his idiotic followers will just go along with whatever he has to say. And he has the nerve to stand in front of the cameras and say, with absolutely nothing but his own delusions to base it on, that the 800,000 people going without a paycheck thanks to his shutdown are in favor of the shutdown. That's to say nothing of the many, many others who will lose money because those government employees won't be able to spend in their stores, restaurants, etc. Then off the top of his head, once again with zero forethought before spouting off, he says maybe he'll just declare a national emergency and take the money from the military to build this idiotic, useless wall. Republicans how can you continue to go along with this? You were the party who was so gungho on increasing military budgets, but this is ok? You were the party that was so gungho on erasing the deficit, but now that's no longer an issue? You don't mind when he threatens to take even more power into the executive branch away from Congress even though you like to shout about strict adherence to the Constitution?
When we had so many Republicans vying for the nomination, we all laughed about the clown car. Well, right now it looks like we may have a bus full of Democrats. I just hope that we have one who will emerge who can actually lead this country back onto the right path.

Mulvaney thinks being COS for the JA is "actually a lot of fun." I suspect he is in for a very rude awakening, and it most likely won't take very long before that happens judging from the experience of past people in that job. Of course, if he doesn't try to control anything and just let's JA go his addlepated way the honeymoon might go on a little longer than it would otherwise. He might as well do that. No one can direct or control anything in this JA's orbit. Evidently Pence and Jared accomplished exactly what everyone expected yesterday -- nothing. McConnell is still trying to stay on the sidelines, but that's going to become harder and harder for him to do. Ever since the JA rode down that escalator to make his announcement, I have been wrong on most of my political predictions; but, I'm predicting that Republicans are going to end up having to own this shutdown whether they want to or not unless McConnell starts working to end the shutdown. If Republicans in the Senate can show they are working to end it and force the JA to have to veto or better yet accept a bill without the wall they might survive the 2020 election, but it will be doomsday for the JA with his base if he backs down on this now because he has painted himself into a corner. However, judging from the way my psychic abilities have been going for the past 2 years JA could also end up being crowned king.

Lindsey Graham must be taking "Crazy Pills"...His appearance on Face the Nation, (I think it was) was just downright Bonkers!...He was shouting, making absolutely no sense with his name calling & complete disrespect of Nancy Pelosi & Dick Durbin. Jeez, he needs a "Chill Pill" or something!...Ever since John McCain died I detect a very different Graham or else when McCain was alive, he just tempered his behavior. Not sure which, but this Lindsey Graham lately is completely bizarre!!!!

I didn't see him on FTN, but he most definitely seems to be going off the rails and it does seem to have increased exponentially since McCain's death. Wonder if McCain reigned him in before his death? Lately he acts like he needs a double dose of Valium just to get through the morning.

I detect a very different Graham or else when McCain was alive, he just tempered his behavior. My money is on this one. lol. Graham was always insincere, two faced, and plain old creepy to me. I can't even look at him without feeling nauseous. His voice makes me sick too. Mean and nasty people can't keep their true colors under wraps for long. Eventually their real selves come out and when it does all that ugly and violence seeps out of their pores like a raging river that can not be contained. What you see and hear are their true selves. Either those who vote and support for people like Graham and the JA simply can't see how deceitful and vile they are, or they're exactly like them and like what they see. Birds of a feather. What else could it possibly be?

I agree Pat, and it is getting harder and harder to think that those supporters just can't see it. I want to think that they just don't understand and are being deceived, but honestly, that's getting very hard to do because it just continues on and on with no change other than to get worse with time instead of better. How can they NOT see? People I've known all my life I am looking at in a whole new way. Maybe I've been wrong about them all along. People I have thought were "salt of the earth" kind of folks, I am now asking myself do they really believe these hateful things? Is this who they have really been all along, and I've just been the one too naive to realize it? It's a very sobering thought. The world as I've always known it, believed it to be, is suddenly much darker than it ever was before.

Oh, I think, JA supporters can see, but for most of them, its about hating the Dems/Liberals even more. My brother is a JA supporter & recently he was talking about something concerning JA & looked at me & pointed his finger & said, "You Liberals" ....like it was a "dirty word"...I just said, Thanks, & changed the subject. Look at how all the GOP "big boys" are attacking Alexandrie Ocasio-Cortez for everything from her dancing to every tweet or idea she brings forth. They regard her as a "socialist" as if they knew the meaning of the word, LOL, & the fact that the real "socialist"/Communist is the very person they continue to enable is laughable. JA is truly Putin/Russian puppet. I think, this young girl has the GOP running scared.....She will make mincemeat out of those old white Republicans who attack her on political shows, in tweets, wherever. She's not afraid to stand her ground. I say more power to her & the rest of the new Congress People coming to DC. I may not agree with all their Progressive ideas, but its darn right ok to bring them forth, discuss & see whats what. As for the Congress person who used the MF word, she only said what most of us are thinking. JA has used that word on many occasions & worse concerning the NFL, the Hollywood tape, changing Adam Schiff's name to you know what. I'm so happy they played many tapes of JA today, using those words. So, while I wish we didn't have to use words that make one cringe, I think the finger pointing is ridiculous. Especially where it concerns JA.
